I drive a UPS truck. If you are given a return shipping label by the manufacturer, you can pack it (best is in a hard case ie plastic box from manufacturer or pelican), label it, and hand it to your driver. You MUST notify us verbally. We treat them as high value packages and they go into a locked cage to decrease the chances for sticky fingers. If you are paying for the shipment, you must bring it to a customer counter at one of our buildings, unless you have a scheduled pickup at your house or place of business. The easiest way to deal with the rain water is to put an overflow valve (simple as drilling a hole or two) in the top of a 55 gal plastic drum. If you are using a bladder, it will likely have a built in overflow. The overflow will allow the water to turn over as it rains and reduce the likelihood of it growing funky. As for treating it, PUR filters work well, or you can use 2 drops of household bleach per quart of water and let stand for 15 minutes to kill any crypto, giardia, etc.

Wouldn't the inside of the SDB be "property owned or controlled" by me? I would have a signed rental agreement for the box and thereby be within the travel exemptions. I'm not sure I would use that as my first option, but there is at least a reasonable argument on why it could be GTG.

Good call from my view. My wife's Solo had FTF and FTE most of the time. Kimber replaced parts on 2 different trips back. When we picked it up, after the second warranty service, the shop agreed that test firing it was a good idea. FTF on the first 2 rounds. FTE on the 5th. They stood by us and said that they would send it back again or refund the full purchase price. Guess who sold her Solo back to the shop?

I see potential in your line of thought. SCOTUS has ruled that requiring people to have ID to vote is unconstitutional based on it representing a burden on a voter without the financial resources to pay the state for a DL or other acceptable ID. NJs regulations could be viewed in the same light, except we're not talking $20 min every few years for renewal for ID, we're talking thousands of dollars a year for an address that would be accepted by NJs gun laws.

My point was that the letter at the end doesn't really matter, its just a letter. Any one of us could declare or change affiliation at any time. The important part is his ideology. If you do end up going for a 1911, look at the Springfield Range Officer too. Some improved components without going overboard. Match grade barrel and trigger but average sights and grips. You can upgrade later if you want, but its beautiful out of the box and shoots like a champ. Right around your budgets top end, but a great gun for the money.
