  1. Browning BDM - nice that grip was small, but double mode, while interesting, ended up causing the trigger to be marginal. Very reliable but not accurate sold it to a buddy for $200 just so he would have a 9mm for home protection. He has since bought a nice Sig p226. I moved on to an HK P30L LEM V1 - love it.
  2. Great responses!!!! I'm open to spending more (getting to Pizza Bob's point) but I'm unlikely to be shooting past 50 yards. So maybe a fixed 4x Nikon??? I have a Wegand rail which I put my EOtech 512 on just for fun. Worked great (almost felt like cheating), but looked soooooo odd I took it off. Fiber optics could be nice, and recommendations on brand. I like the gold dot on the front, but its a little big (or so it seems) for accurate work.
  3. I have a S&W 627 PC and am thinking of putting a scope on it. As my eye sight gets worse I am having a hard time focusing on the front sight. Just soooooo much easier to hit the target with a red dot or a laser on my handguns, but a scope???? Was thinking a nice silver Simmons (around $100) would be worth a shot. So my questions: (1) I'm cross dominate (shoot right handed but aim with left eye). Will this make a handgun scope hard to use? (I would think not since I use isosceles stance). (2) I'm not planning on hunting with it so is a Simmons good enough, or should I save up for a Leupold? thanks so much, FamilyMan
  4. Finally got my P2Ps from Montclair!!! Last name starts with 'R', submitted on Nov 13th - so a few days short of 6 months. But its finally done and major points for MPD, they did the best they could. So the backlog should be clearing up finally. Now its on to the NICS delays, but I'll take the progress.
  5. Anyone know what the membership count is looking like?
  6. Took the tour, joined at Gold level, looking forward to pig roast tomorrow, AND range opening next week. So Anthony, when do you think you will have the rental guns in stock? I want to try out a few ideas before buying something. Are you taking suggestions on what to stock? If I might suggest having a few 22LR pistols in stock to rent. It makes sense for new gun people to shot 22LR pistols first before moving up to even a 9mm, and the ammo is cheaper (at least when you can get it). Just a thought. As to more powerful handguns, I would say go popularity, what you can get, and what you can get ammo for. FamilyMan
  7. I talked to Montclair PD yesterday and they confirmed that they are getting back background checks and process FID/P2P. Mine has not come in just yet. I'm an 'R' so hopefully this gets finished next week.
  8. At least Frank is saying they are (a) received the records, (b) making progress, and © working hard to get checks started again. Below is the email I got this afternoon at 5:03pm. ------------------------------- We did receive the records and we are working around the clock to sort and begin the background checks. Frank J. Del Gaudio Risk Manager County of Essex 465 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Newark, NJ 07102 (973) 621-4427 -----Original Message----- Sent: Friday, March 22, 2013 1:39 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Essex County Mental Health Records Recovery Mr. Del Gaudio, I am writing just to get an update. As you know there is quite a bit of interest in these records. Did you receive the records from Belford as you had hoped? It would be good to be able to tell the public that Essex County is again processing background checks.
  9. Assuming you are both in NJ - you don't need an FFL. However I'm pretty sure you need a P2P (someone check this). If you have a P2P then is simply a private purchase at zero cost. If she is in another state I think you will need an FFL and likely a P2P. Love your avatar (stainless SIGs are great).
  10. If you don't have time to call Frank, then email him: Risk Manager Frank Del Gaudio (T) 973-621-4427 (F) 973-621-6650 [email protected] Once we have the name/number of the company then we call them daily.
  11. I called and got voice mail. I did not leave a message. Figured I'd call my local PD to see what they can do.
  12. Just talked to my local PD - very very helpful. The detective said he will call Frank. He had been talking to Nancy in the past and did not know Frank. He took down Frank's numbers. Hopefully we can get more info. He was a great help and is doing the best he can. But this gets right to the heart of "asking permission" to exercise a right. The next thing will be to ask permission to exercise a different right, like say the right to free speech. They will be calling to register journalists and bloggers because we all know the pen is mightier than the sword. Funny I don't know anyone who uses either of those anymore. Maybe we should update that to the keyboard is mightier than the AR?
  13. Let's see if we can find out who her boss is and start calling him/her.
  14. I got the same letter and was very very pleased to get it, and with the redistricting he is now my rep so I am very happy.
  15. RTSP in Randolph and Luciano's (now Ottomanelli's) in Woodland Park (used to be West Patterson) - both in Northern Jersey.
