  1. Well with the new season added for air rifles I decided to buy one. Wanted to share my experience to help any new to this as i am. I bought a gamo bone collector and am so disapointed. Unlike other states where big stores like gander and cabelas take returns here in nj you don't have that option. My rifle after 500 rds, and multiple pellets i can't hold a group at 15 yds. Ive contacted gamo and they are very very unwilling to help the customer. They will suggest fixes and additional items to buy to correct issues with the rifle but not the issues themselves. Ive dumped 400 bucks into this and every new pellet or the new scope I got just left me feeling deflated since I could have bought a .17 or 22 I just shot a benjimin new out of the box and it is dead on at 20 yds. So if you decide to venture into the nj air rifle season head the warning... I will never buy gamo again. It seems the guns are designed for kids to shoot cans at 1300 fps.. Not take game. This is the second gamo I've shot with issues. So if you get into it this year good luck and shop wise. Look into a company that will work with you or go to gander where they take returns.
  2. As for tracking if you shoot well you wont need to track.. if its a bad shot give it good time if its not bear heaven come back in the a.m. most broad heads leave a good blood trail to follow.. and buy a seat cushion and any rock or log makes a good seat... scent killer is good but not end all you still need to watch wind.. unless your looking to burn cash hunt a season and you'll know what u want NEED and what you don't... as for wind its not that hard grab a compass stand where the blind or your spot is and look at where the deer will be coming when u wake up go outside or check online if the wind is blowing towards the deer path from your spot don't hunt it... I always make two spots in each area to void out wind issues and still get on the deer... if you know its a monster coming in don't mess around if wind isn't in your favor font hunt it wait...
  3. Where are you out of... any wma or state land can be scouted at any time and the best time is before or after the season. Early bow yes you need something for bugs... buy a thermocell.. there awsome in nj but for some reason suck in canada lol.. unless your solid on ranging get a range finder.. I know too many guys that over or undershoot because they are so great they don't use range finders.. handsaw and twine go a long way for blinds and clearing lanes.. knife obviously.. anything else is extra and extra scrap you need to drag in.. unless your on good farmland with tons of deer a light grunt is all id carry rattle and doe cans just don't work in deep oak..for me at least.. if you scout now while there's good foliage you can see deer paths beeten down look for deer poop paths beds that are flattened out... rubs at this point could be from dead deer so wait on rubs untill there fresh... once you find some typical deer paths look for where a few meet usual ridge lines will play a role in intersections .. when u find an intersection figure a decent spot to throw some brush and make a few lanes way before the hunting season starts.. also check for signs of other hunters not only ate people territorial on state land lol but if there's someone close by they might suck and screw your plans up.. I had a amazing spot thought I was deeeep in the woods I was ok set a camera up and all.. great pics.. first day I was in an hour before light ... just as blue hour came I see flash lights and clanking from some guys ladder stand he was setting up two hundred yards away... if I looked I would have seen his corn all over and why he would set up a stand opening day I dont know... after a few hours I was too pisses to stay as I walked out I saw the quad he took in on state land and I never went back... odd I didn't hear the quad.. good luck p.m. me if you want any specifics or have questions I love hunting and u will to.. ohh and unless you need sausages made butcher your own deer its part of the whole thing and is easy after a couple times doing it... watch you tube videos or if your close by ill give you a quick lesson..
  4. The cost of a few days of guiding would be well invested in your gear and some time in the field. There are deer in newark. Just no place to hunt them... if you look at ema state land there's something in driving distance.. birds ate fun but you need a dog and if you want more than once or twice a year it gets pricey ..good luck either way!!
  5. 287 is best but you would have to hit tapansee bridge
  6. I lived in bayville the first 16 years of my life ... with all that crime cut them some slack buddy... lolololol. Always thought it was a pretty laidback town but last time I drove through it looked like the hamptons in the pines... maybe all that money brought in some hippidy dippidys... sucks good luck
  7. Pellet gun ..no way!!! I didn't hear of this..awesome. Ducks and birds are a hard start unless u get a guide. The point u made to be self relian go out and hunt some deer. one get a muzzle loader never hunt shotgun in nj just not a good idea. Go to any woods be it state or wma. Walk around leave the gun home start observing. You'll see all sorts of things from tracks to deer scat to obvious small beaten down paths cutting through low brush. If there's acorns there's deer somewhere near by. Over time you can predict what areas hold deer with a quick walk about. Once you find a little patch that has that life to it... not just a random pile o poop but some traffic sit againts a rock or base of a tree and hang out .. best times unless you follow moon is first light and last light anytime is good but dont burn yourself out sitting a full day untill your hooked of course. When you get one ..and you most likley will if you just take your time and relax being observant .. pullout the phone go to google and watch a how to field dress a deer. Watch it before u go but have the phone with you.. as well as a sharp knife rope and a head lamp in case your there a while.. you can do the same thing and butcher it yourself.. first time you might waste a bit but after two or three you'll be ripping through it np.. Get started right and make friends not enemies if you see a spot that is obviously being hunted go a few hundred yards away before even thinking of hunting again... don't be an ass....... how old are you.... what town.. if your near by ill show you a handful of spots ... just not my spots lol. Ohh and seriously know what's behind the deerif possible get a little elevated so you have a backstop... nj is dense and I've had a few scares from dopes not being safe.. don't be that guy..
  8. Image on flash might be corrupt I don't trust flash regardless of how reliable there supposed to be. I've had too many graphics on me. My opinion your boot is crapped/ get a linux boot and replace ... if you need step by step pm me.. sounds Like you know enough to do it. Rarely is hardware and when it is you usually don't get past post. Windows xp goes on all my pcs, anything after sucks.. then again so does xp. If all you do is browse the web and watch videos run linux.
  9. I personally love a 44.. but either way you can't go wrong.. I am quick to agree with other posters though more versatile with a 357. Are you looking for one specific round to shoot go 44 if you want options in this crazy ammo rat race 357
  10. Im 33 and am blessed to have a wife that takes pride in my large forehead and 240lb frame.. I've since taught her to break down all kinds game except squirrel.. they look like rats I guess. Its a great feeling watching my wife swing a deer leg like a butcher making near perfect cuts. I live in north jersey but work in hackensack.. even the gangsters look like women these days. I work with a buddy whos 24 and is as testosterone as can be... he hates being in the dating pool at this age because apparently the younger girls are into the skinny tight jean men that buff there nails not there chest he's 230 all muscle.. I guess it goes in cycles maybe when im 50 baggy savvy jeans will be back in style and I welcome that over this new style of man. But look on the bright side if ..shtf .. there will be less competition for resources since these people will last 3 months tops. Leaving us "stupid hillbilly jocks" to take what we need.
  11. Jealous but happy all at the same time... beautiful man really a once in a lifetime deal... congrats! !
  12. Sorry thought that was a different forum... lol. I was telling the story at work while readiing through forums thought I'd share the tale here... I've been trying to become a cop... easier to get a ccw. No mil.. no available connections..... good scores but still waiting for a call. I just can't bring myself to leave Jersey it's a beautiful state minus some laws..
  13. So ive been hunting for some time now and every year I get some bear action up close and personal.. a whistle is all it ever took to make them run like hell... untill last fall. l was in a brush blind when two cubs came strolling in knowing mom was close by I gave a good yell and to my surprise one ran but the other sat down to eat acorns.. I shook the brush and yelled throwing a stick which made him flinch but not move an inch... all fine until I hear noise behind me on a ridge and see mama snapping her teeth and slowley walking towards me. can't lie I was quite nervous for the first time ..sitting there with a bow in my hand I watched her pace the ridge line.. then Mom came down the ridge leaving me a small window to slip out and get some distance while out of sight... I left all my items in the blind and came back 30 min later to get my stuff.. I realized if I hadn't seen mama on the ridge she would have closed the distance and been right above me before I noticed her.. now again I don't hunt bear personally and this is probably a rare occasion... but damn ... no way to get a open carry in the woods for my personal protection??? Crazy state we live in.
