I think Zeke ought to host a 'Zeke for Moderator' happy hour. You know, like a campaign party, to drum up support. Of course, Zeke should be buying drinks for everyone.....

Just do it and STFU bout it Why in the NAME OF GOD would you call the NJSP about such a trivial matter as this? What if they ask you to stop by soi they could check it out? Nothing good will come of it.

Ribs off the smoker now. Wrapped tightly in foil and resting on the counter. Sweet baby rays and apple juice mixed 3-1 waiting on the side. Falling off the bone, baby....

Having met them I'm in for a Mrs Zeke for Mod campaign. If she takes care of Zeke she can easily take care of a forum.

Zeke! You sound so broken. You've already given up your campaign? I think you need to plan a Mrs. Zeke for Mod happy hour. What do the rest of you think?

I should have said in my last response two things most burglars don't want to deal with is alarms and dogs. That's an easy answer but not easy to do. Getting a dog includes caring for it and can be a radical lifestyle change for many. Dogs have to be let out, fed, and cleaned up after on a daily basis. There's no spur of the moment getaways as you have to make arrangements for the dog if you can't take it with you. Getting a dog is similar to having a kid but you can't stick your kid in a crate or lock them in a room if you're going out for a few hours. All dogs can't have the run of the house when no one's home. Now I know some that call themselves "dog people" that can just go out and get another when their dog dies. I'm not one of them. My last dog died at age 13 almost two years ago. She was a great defender of her turf. When she got sick I spent several thousand dollars on a rescue dog to find out she couldn't be saved. There are plenty of dogs in shelters that are there because someone suggested to their former owners "get a dog" for some reason. A gun or an alarm is easier to take care of and won't give you the same amount of emotional distress if it dies. If you get a dog get a rescue.

OMG! What a perfect day/evening I had. I really must send a very big THANK YOU to Griz and High Exposure. Let me explain... first, Griz was kind and generous enough to invite me to join him at his range in Jackson to try a whole slew of different firearms... to start narrowing down my choices for Permit #2. Wow, I was like a kid in a candy store.... and I learned sooo much! The only bad part is, LOL, I'm more confused than ever about what I want to buy. I can see this is all a matter of trade-offs. Like the Glock was nice and light, which was a pleasure... but on the other hand, I felt like it was beating up my hand more than some of the heavier steel guns. I can see this is all a matter of personal preference and figuring out the trade-offs. Anyway, as we're chatting away with the people around us, of all the damn FLUKES, we find out we're talking to our very own: High Exposure!... who was there with a couple of buddies. Did you ever have one of those times when totally spontaneous plans just fall into place perfectly? Well, this was one of those times. We figured it was too late to post an announcement, so HE picked up his phone and just starts PMing people for a last minute happy hour. Soon enough, we have a surprisingly large group gathered at a very quaint local watering hold that Griz recommended! My life has been all about work and eldercare for the last year... so frankly, this was the first really relaxing time I've had in AGES. So, thank you both. What a perfect day! And it was really nice meeting all of the rest of you that were there. I'm only sorry that I had to cut out early so I could check in on my dad. Is the party still going on?

Ok, THAT makes sense! I was wondering about that myself...but I was thinking maybe it was an air show in NJ? I don't know... how far is that tavern from Lakeland AFB? Anyway, when I was leaving, I saw an aerobatics team streak by (jets, not planes)... I mean, they were flying incredibly close... and I've been to a number of airshows over the years, but that was really breathtaking! Blue Angels, maybe? Definitely some kind of elite team.

Did anyone happen to catch Season 2 Episode 3 titled Pearl Harbor where they were rebuilding a Oerlikon 20mm AA Cannon? An interesting part of the episode was they went to Sarco to find a firing pin. Which they not only had the firing pin, but multiple Oerlikon Receivers. It also was mentioned that they had 67,000 Garand Stocks. If anyone needs one Sarco is right across the River. I was wondering what else they have that isn't listed on their site. Has anyone else called them to ask them to look for something in particular and had any luck? If anyone hasn't seen The Weapon Hunter it is a fantastic show on Smithsonian channel. Really had a great time. Don't get to meet up that often with my schedule so its nice to meet a bunch of forum members. All of the air show stuff outside was cool to see too. Guess it was all stuff related to fleet week. Anyway..thanks again for organizing this

My wife is always off the hook for cooking unless I want to eat TV dinners and hamburger helper all the time, so she has to clean up after me. She is becoming a big fan of smoked meat though. I smoked a Boston butt, wanted to pull it but it wasn't tender enough for that so I sliced it and it was still great. Made pork fried rice the next day with the leftovers and that was epic! Once I learn a little more she might want to spend a little more on a smoker but not BGE prices, I know you get what you pay for but damn. A decent size one costs the same as a truck load of diapers and with a 98 year old and a 1 year old in the house we go through allot of diapers.

Oooo... Mrs. Z, I'm soooo sorry! I would have loved to have met you. Next time... ! (But is there a way you can leave you-know-who at home though?)

Your wife may come to see it differently... My wife gave me the smoker for Christmas 2 1/2 years ago. Now, every time I use it--every time without exception--when we sit down to eat she tells me that giving me that smoker was the best idea she ever had. Great eats, and she's off the hook for cooking and cleanup on smoker days. Oh--and keep a notebook with the details of everything you cook. It's very helpful to be able to go back and see how much charcoal was used, how much and what type of smoke wood was used, when more was added, temperatures, times, how the meat was prepared before and during smoking, etc etc. It's more complicated than slapping a steak on the grill. But oh, so worth it.

I love the flavor of cumin, but not on BBQ. To me, cumin belongs in Mexician dishes, and chili. Personal preference.... Brisket is my favorite (hell, I'm a Texan...that's what we DO!!). Ive always smoked brisket over mesquite. After it's done, I wrap it tightly in foil, then put it in an empty ice chest for a couple of hours, allowing it to rest. Find that it retains more moisture that way. Some guys I know use foil and am old towel to the same effect. I'll cut SBR's (Sweet Baby Rays) with a little apple cider to give it some more tang and thin it out. I like it that way, but your mileage may vary. I like brisket sliced, personally. A little sauce, a couple of pickle slices, and some white bread, and you got yourself a damn fine sandwich. I like to save a bit of chopped brisket and put it in my chili. One of my friends mixes smoked, chopped brisket in with ground beef, and makes hamburger patties. Holy hell, that's a good burger...

Sarco is well.... Sarco. Their NJ location was just a whole bunch of stuff laying around and they did have a few legal issues. lol. You would figure stuff would be computerized, but just think....after decades.... how much "stuff" just accumulates.

Glad I was able to stop by for a little - I've been running around like crazy for lighting for the new house, so when I got the message I was glad to stop by and take a quick breather.

Griz is a good guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him myself at Remixer's office. Glad to hear you had a good time Mrs. Peel. I am also a member at CJRPC. Mrs. Peel if you ever want to try out firearms made between 1895-1974 I am your guy. I don't buy much of that new fangled stuff. You just need to promise no more crazy Zeke for Mod support. Aspiring Pitmaster here... I use a WSM 18.5". I would love a BGE or other rig, but plenty of competition has been won by a WSM and I got mine from Cabela's using various points, coupons, etc. There's a whole site dedicated to the WSM with a hardcore following: http://virtualweberbullet.com/ I buy my smoke wood from a place in Elizabeth here: http://bbqsmokingwood.com/ If anyone has a better source in NNJ, I would love to know... I stick with fruit wood. Hickory and/or Mesquite can just overpower the flavor. I use the "M1A1" dry rub and brine recipes from subguns.com. I will eventually try to develop my own "Chili P" signature recipes, but these work well for me now. Another good site for inspiration: http://amazingribs.com/ The term 'dry rub' is somewhat misleading, as I primarily use this as a 'dry marinade'. 'Dry Marinade' is also somewhat misleading, as a marinade is a liquid. The point is that the proper use of a dry rub is to coat the meat entirely and let it sit refrigerated overnight in a bag, take the meat out to room temp the next day and then grill OR smoke. Since this recipe is relatively high in sugar content to what is commercially sold as 'dry rub'- salt- you should use it right. If you are grilling, your grill should be well over 220° F. The term 'grill' intones that you are going to sear some By God Grill Marks on that murdermeat so get that prick up there white hot- that'll sear it proper and cook the rub in. If your grill is cold the rub won't cook and the flavors can remain bitter, and you'll cook every entire inch of that poor cow until everyone just laughs at you. If you are smoking, your smoker temp should be between 200-220° F. If you are using it as an overnight marinade, let it sit on the counter on a grill over a dish until the outside temp is ambient. If you are grilling candyass steaks less than an inch thick, you might want to scrape some of the syrup off at this point or, probably better, just sprinkle it on and gently rub then remove overage a couple few hours before grilling. I rarely answer questions with a yes or no.

I'd rather do the cooking in my household. That way my wife cleans up. I'm pretty neat in the kitchen, clean up as I go. Mrs. DT doesn't...looks like a MOAB went off in the kitchen when she is done. Holy hell!!

I don't know...maybe because I'm a redneck, I don't have any trouble interpreting Zeke's posts. If he becomes Mod, the enrollment for that Kahn University course is gonna go through the roof!! Lol

I'm with DT on this! Zeke is always boasting - "I'm so "handsome"... "purdy"... "powerful"... "mod-worthy""... and yet the guy's always whining about blueline meetups, doesn't even get invited to happy hour, can't seem to get himself appointed to "mod" despite relentless campaigning. He's always harassing the rest of us... listen to him, now he's ready to bug AVB to arrange something. Sheesh! Why, I'm starting to think that Zeke's boasting is just hiding some awful secret - a terrible deformity perhaps? A repellent personality? What could it be? Your guesses are welcome.

Luger is similar to your previous dog. He's on guard 110% of the time. He protects all 3 acres and beyond (just ask the white GSD that he attacked last 4th July) no one can come on the property uninvited without being confronted by luger. However once we're off the property he's all good with all other dogs and people.

Good point, Mrs. Peel. Let's let Zeke campaign all on his own. Win it, or lose it all on his own merits...
  33. 1 point
Absolutely! 1) it's rightly his turn to plan something - (HE, Griz and I are "covered" as previously mentioned), and 2) it's what any good politician would do, and 3) we'll all get to judge his various online claims for ourselves!

There are numerous, breed specific rescue organizations. I've fostered a few. Everyting you say, Griz, it true... as much as it hurt when my last 3 GSD passed, I always got another after the self-prescribed mourning period passed. I can't seem to picture my home without one. Nor my family without an unbiased, unapologetic, always on, protector that would give his life unflinchingly for them. Should someone looking to do us harm, get past him, I know he's dead. His sacrifice would buy me and my family precious moments to prepare to defend our lives. Like any of us would sacrifice ourselves for our families to give them a chance. To some, dogs are a hassle. I just got back from a walk in the woods with Bruno and me drenched from head to paw. To me it's a pleasure sharing a home with this noble beast.

Last week I thought to myself, I have too many black rifles. So I decided to take a few cans of rust-oleum and see what kind of damage I can do to may stag. Well, here is the end result:

How do these idiots (not you guys the film makers) go from "Baba Yaga" (baba = woman) to "BoogeyMAN" The gun play in both movies is awesome, the Russian is horrible. In 2017, there are enough Russian speaking people in the US, come on.
