10 days ago I landed in Salt Lake City at 2am. We picked up the rental Suburban, and the Hertz employees were going home. The next day in the light, we noticed an 18 inch long scratch, through the maroon paint into the bright yellow plastic in the bumper. Even had I noticed 7 hours prior there would have been no one to tell. The girl handed me the keys, grabbed her bag and left. I stopped at the walmart in Cody wy, picked up a pack of crayons and blended a nice purple crayon into the scratch and it matched almost perfectly. I opted for the 24 colors, I didn't want to cheap out Turned it in an hour ago, no one noticed. This has been a public service announcement.

I think the focus is all in the wrong place, trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist. There are other things that kill many more people and that's where effort should be focused. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm Heart disease: 614,348 Cancer: 591,699 Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 147,101 Accidents (unintentional injuries): 136,053 Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 133,103 Alzheimer's disease: 93,541 Diabetes: 76,488 Influenza and Pneumonia: 55,227 Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis: 48,146 Intentional self-harm (suicide): 42,773 Firearms isn't even in the top 10. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/injury.htm All firearm deaths Number of deaths: 33,599 Deaths per 100,000 population: 10.5 Almost 20 times as many deaths occur from heart disease. The flu and pneumonia kill more people. As we know that 34k number includes suicides and good guys shooting bad guys. We've seen the breakdown of the numbers ... 25% of all gun crime happens in just 4 cities, etc. ... and we didn't even touch on the harm that tobacco and alcohol inflict. America will never understand that gun control is a myth until they begin to understand these numbers, and it's too much of an emotional issue. The Pro 2A movement I think would be better served by focusing on publicizing and educating on the real scale of the "gun control problem".

Try not to vomit when you read this. The FBI admits that Hodgkinson: • raged against Republicans in online forums *note to some of our more aggressive posters: these things do come up during investigations* • had a piece of paper bearing the names of six members of Congress • was reported for doing target practice outside his home in recent months before moving to Alexandria, • had mapped out a trip to the DC area, • took multiple photos of the baseball field he would later shoot up, three days after the New York Times mentioned that Republicans practiced baseball at an Alexandria baseball field with little security, • lived out of his van at the YMCA directly next door to the baseball field he shot up, • legally purchased a rifle in March 2003 and 9 mm handgun “in November 2016,” • modified the rifle at some point to accept a detachable magazine and replaced the original stock with a stock • rented a storage facility to hide hundreds of rounds of ammunition and additional rifle components, • asked “Is this the Republican or Democrat baseball team?” before firing on the Republicans, • ran a Google search for information on the “2017 Republican Convention” hours before the shooting, • and took photos at high-profile Washington locations, including the east front plaza of the U.S. Capitol and the Dirksen Senate Office. • We know from other reporting that the list was of six Republican Freedom Caucus members, including Rep. Mo Brooks, who was present at the practice. So what does the FBI decide this information means? Well, the takeaway of the briefing was characterized well by the Associated Press headline about it: “FBI: Gunman who shot congressman had no target in mind.” The Associated Press reported the FBI: • believes the gunman “had no concrete plan to inflict violence” against Republicans, • “had not yet clarified who, if anyone, he planned to target, or why,” • believes he may have just “happened upon” the baseball game the morning of June 14, and that the attack appeared “spontaneous,” • are unclear on the “context” of Hodgkinson’s note with six names of members of Congress, • does not believe that photographs of the baseball field or other sites “represented surveillance of intended targets,” and • “painted a picture of a down-on-his-luck man with few future prospects.” In fact, USA Today went with “FBI offers portrait of troubled Alexandria shooter with ‘anger management problem’” for their headline, since that’s what the FBI emphasized in the briefing. Unreal.....

As I get older, it gets increasingly hard to surprise me. But this actually shocks me. Am I so naïve that I expect better from the FBI than we might get, for instance, from HuffPo? These agents are supposed to be dedicated to protecting this country. They're also supposed to be at least reasonably intelligent - it's an elite law enforcement agency for god's sakes! So, how did they add up all of those facts and NOT see a highly intentional act? The fact that the guy had anger mgmt issues (which is probably true) doesn't negate the purposeful nature of all the steps he took prior to the attack. Honestly, I'm just totally flummoxed by this. I can see why some people get all tinfoil hattish - because stuff like this makes no damn sense. My conclusion is: either the FBI is loaded to the rafters with drooling idiots (like Zeke, I find that hard to believe), or... the FBI's leadership is as corrupt, politicized and manipulative as the day is long and they're spinning this story bigtime. Either is a big concern!

@nickjc I can't say I recall his other posts but if it wasn't sarcasm that right there is the problem. Too many willing to have their God Given Rights infringed upon. No arms that can be beared should be banned or restricted for law abiding citizens. NFA, GCA, Hughes Amendment, NJ Assault Weapon Ban, NY SAFE Act are all Unconstitutional and need to be eliminated. I can't stand the hunters and sport shooters who sit back and say who cares, who needs more than 5 rounds. If the government has it, the people need it. The Second Amendment was the fail safe for when all other checks and balances failed. These next few years are our best opportunity to reverse the tyranny. We can not sit back and allow a Wall Street Liberal to further infringe on our rights. The line needs to be drawn in the sand. Option 1 is defeat him at the ballot box. Option 2 is refuse to comply. Does a bear crap in the woods? Swap it over to take either the 92 or PX4 magazines. Think the only difference in that picture is that I had the bolt plated. Yep... Had two PX4s. The .45 was my first, which I tossed in the Stealth controls when I had CCR refinish it (converts to G due to profile of the levers). Traded that off when I got my Glock 30S. The 9mm came converted to G. Picked it up used from one of the moderators on BerettaForum. Had CCR match it to my .45, as well as added an extended barrel. Still have that one. The Brigadier, converted myself when the kit came out. Was one of the first people to order... patients definitely helped there, along with gun oil. Decocker only is a nice thing, but definitely need to be comfortable with it. Having the PX4s, as well as a 96G Centurion slide, it was a given to convert the last slide over. Also prefer the SIG decocker on my P228. I just got tired of confirming the safety was off each time I brought the Brigadier up (still sweep my thumb from time to time). Only gun I have with a slide safety/decocker is my S&W 1006.

Oh no... that's a big crack... [emoji15] It's on all PX4s and 92s/96s. Relief cut, as mentioned. Checked to see if I had a shot of my PX4 that included it, but never had one of that angle. Too lazy to pull it out of the safe either. I got lucky seeing that on BerettaForum early on... prior to noticing the cut. [emoji41]

Oddly. I don't think the residents of Nj view themselves as Americans? sooo a penslytucky residing American is more Free? when it comes to civil liberties, states have no rights. but yes Uncle Grizz, let's climb up the hill! I sure as shit ain't gonna tell you the hill is" too big, or too hard".

I agree Zeke, however I think there are more important priorities. I could live with a 15 rd magazine limit (for a while) if NJ became a shall issue state. The only way that's going to happen is with a ruling from SCOTUS. I think CCW in NJ is more like likely to happen before mag limits and AWB get addressed. We didn't lose these rightsites all at once and we're not getting them back all at once. Voting for Guadagno may only maintain status quo. That's better than losing more rights under a liberal.

Should not the conversation be, mag restrictions are an infringement. How do we we push back? you will never win, acting like a loser... jus sayen

Wait, why would you want a conversion anything or even bring up a conversion as a benefit? [sarcasm] Why not just get a gun that was built to be a 357 Sig from the get-go? Aren't you concerned about reliability and legality IF said firearm is used in a self-defense role? Let me ask you, which gun do you think would be more reliable? A Glock 22 converted to 357 Sig Or A Glock 31? Seriously - Why do all that "conversion" nonsense when you could save yourself any drama by buying a 357 Sig gun? A G32 for example, that was born a 357 Sig with 357 Sig parts, slide, frame, and all the rest. Doesn't it just seem risky to you? But, hey to each his own. [/sarcasm] #hypocriticalRayRay https://www.njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/86808-glock-22-9mm-conversion-checklist/#comment-1116142 Anyway..... In reality, if you bought a 10mm Glock, you can convert it to shoot .40 and 357 Sig by just swapping in conversion barrels. Now, I don't know about the rest of your topic, as I don't really care about either caliber. They both seem to be favorites of people that just want something different for the sake of being different - and that's OK. I do see the benefit of 10mm for hunting and outdoor activities, but as a self defense round it may be a bit overkill.

Here's something I was thinking about on a bit of a tangent but could be argued is a problem for mag limits. Let's say national CCW reciprocity happens, let's further suppose my favorite carry piece is above any ban states mag limit. Let's say I pack a Glock 17 (I don't but let's say for hypothetical reasons). Am I to change my piece when I go state to state or find compliant mags for each place I travel? Should I take 10 rounds out of the mags in NY until I exit the state? If national CCW passes, I would imagine this will end up catching a lot of people in this screwed up web of laws. Look at how many people CCW not realizing that they have no reciprocity with a particular state. I do believe it's on them to know where they can and cannot carry but keeping a compiled list of mag limits? Maybe it's a stretch but I'm looking for any angle where these dopey laws could be challenged as an undue burden.

Which is where I think they (NRA) want NJ to stay..... they need a poster child to keep soliciting $$$... Thus, no *real* help, but things like this article, which brings them more $$$ support on a national level, but doesn't do a thing about helping NJ specifically.

I wouldn't know about places in PA. Without any other factors considered, I'd say go with what's closest to work or whatever it is for which you were considering NJ. If you need a realtor there, try Karen Horn. She works out of the "Blue Bell" area. That might be a bit further south than you need to be, but she may know others in the area.

It would be best to say something akin to: "since we haven't seen violence pantomimed by the right through media and/or so called art, we have to conclude that the liberals and the complicit media/Hollywood complex have incited this criminal by the selective application of 1st amendment freedom of speech rights. Further the hypocrisy of allowing "art" and speech that is clearly seditious, they will be considered accomplices to this crime." OH MY GOD... If I was a public figure, and said that, the outcry would be deafening. But Pelosi condemned the attacks! They would cry. Anyone else see a parallel to the tactics of jihadists in this? #HuntRepulicans = #AllEyesonISIS or #CalamityWillBefallUS before the flames of it's not the same, I tell you it's the same play book. Civil War? Odds are against it. Noting is impossible. But you have to hope for the best.

I got big hands... I keep my wallet in my front pocket, but to get my hand in to draw a gun, it would probably have to be along the lines of a NAA revolver.
  24. 1 point
Why, though? Why would the FBI spin this and his motive. Put it into context with the #Huntrepublicans crowd and the dem operative that just got caught saying "I’m glad he got shot” and “I wish he was f–king dead.” about Scalise... Are they trying to normalize violence against conservatives? It just seems awfully contrived even for the FBI.

The NJSP doesn't make decisions what is legal and illegal in NJ. The AG's Office does this. Remember the AO M1 carbines that a dealer sold after getting an okay by the NJSP? He then had to get them all back. The AG's Office has been overstepping it's bounds in one respect IMO. They are anot executive branch. The judicial branch is supposed to interpret laws. The AG has been legislating from the office on what they will and will not prosecute. Now part of this is the gun laws in NJ which in some respects areally as clear as mud. The legislature is too busy looking at bs laws rather than clear up ones already on the books. The latest I heard of is the release of helium balloons due to litter and they are ingested by sea turtles. Now helium balloons are something NJ residents discuss daily.

No problem... Yea, damn thing keeps flipping off. Must be broken. [emoji6] I also got this new safety for my Inox Brigadier... said it was made for real Gs, so figured I'm gangster after buying it. Safety worked fine when I was a nerd, but not anymore since I became so fly... [emoji41] Seriously, I was big on BerettaForum for years prior to finding NJGF, so if I see a Beretta thread, I likely will poke my head in. Lots of random crap rolling around in my head, but sometimes can find some useful Beretta info. It's one platform I grew up on.

To me, worrying about another caliber is like another company just coming out with their first AR.... how many times can you try reinvent the wheel and try to corner the market. I don't think the caliber lost any popularity because of lack of guns. I think its just one of those things that people say, meh.... we got calibers that work. IMHO, Another instance of a caliber that -did- make a comeback was the .380.... I was never a fan because a 9mm covered it. But because the round itself improved so much over the years, its still popular, new 380s are still being made and sometimes reinvented. Works great for the 380 fans of yester-year. Would make no sense for me to invest in a 380 because my P938 covers it and is a caliber I have many weapons in. I also don't buy guns to be a fan of a brand or caliber. I generally agree with HE's post above. The 357 SIG is the result of attempting to duplicate the 357 magnum in a semiautomatic caliber. The 10mm is the result of trying to duplicate 41 Magnum. IMO, neither is a "needed" caliber. Okay if you want something different but that's about where the need ends. I often refer to 357 SIG as my idea of a 9mm +P+. I feel a standard 9mm parabellum works fine as a SD cartridge. If I want 357 magnum performance I'll use a revolver and can also use heavier bullets. I have a 8 shot N frame size 357 so I'm not giving up much in capacity if that's an issue. The 41 Magnum came about as an attempt to upgrade police handguns from 38s and 357s in the 60s. The problem was most pds tried it with the full power load and found it too much. The 10mm was an attempt to solve the issues in a police round and again it was too much. A full 10mm is definitely overkill for SD uses. Even Dirty Harry said he used a 3/4 load in his 44 Magnum. A 3/4 load 10mm is a 40 S&W. They're all good calibers but I generally refer to 357 SIG and 10mm as "designer calibers". Yes they serve a function but they weren't "needed". That's why they never really caught on like the 45 GAP or 327 Magnum which are also useful but will never really catch on. They'll all be around for some time but will never reach the popularity of 9mm, 38 special, 357 mag, 44 mag, or 45 ACP. You can walk into just about any Walmart (outside of NJ) or any half as sporting goods store and find those calibers. Good luck finding 10mm, 357 SIG, 45 GAP, or 327 Magnum everywhere.

The fine art of negotiation. The court is nothing but the highest levels of lawyers in the country. The art of "lawyering" is nothing more than knowing what to say and when to say it. Makes all the difference. It is a system devised by them, controlled by them, and used by them to squeeze the essence of common decency out of every person. Basically, evil hacks who make a living out screwing people and when they are not doing that they run for elected office so they can make more laws to keep them in business.

Rob, To touch on your point: Currently under HR 218/LEOSA any sworn LEO in good standing can carry a handgun off duty in all 50 states. However, we still have to abide by the states magazine capacity laws. When the act was originally passed any ammunition restrictions had to be followed as well - for example a Cop from TX could not carry hollow points and had to restrict his gun to a 15 round mag when coming to NJ. The last update eliminated any ammo restrictions (as long as long as the ammo was what your dept issued/mandated - This change was due to insurance issues of all things, not the lawmakers getting smart about ammo choices) but did nothing to address any magazine restrictions. So currently, yes, even though I basically have "national reciprocity" I have to be aware of magazine capacity restriction whenever I travel to make sure I am not in violation. I can only carry 10 round mags when I go to NY, CT, MA, DC, MD, or HI. I don't see this changing anytime soon either.

Brother I hope you are right. You are much more optimistic about that than I am. I can see NY, NJ, CA, MA, and CT really fighting it. It will be a long battle.

Even if that happens, we then have a case for relief based upon the 4th Amendment: Equal Protection. Yes it would have to be heard, but it would be a slam-dunk as 49 states' residents would have more rights than NJ residents. I don't think the Anti's want that loss in the books, so something else will be used to rock the boat to make case law. "Separate, but Equal" went the way of the Do-Do Bird

If no Order granting or denying petition is issued on Monday, there will not be any action on this until on or after October, 2017 when the new term starts. The Court adjourns at the end of June for the Summer recess, except for emergent matters where stays may be issued, usually in capital cases.

Nappen is wrong again. THE ARTICLE SAYS: "The 590® Shockwave is a “Destructive device” under NJ Gun Law because it is capable of firing a projectile greater than .60 Caliber (12 Gauge = .729 Caliber) and it is NOT a shotgun." The statute actually reads greater than 60 caliber, not .60 caliber. "any weapon capable of firing a projectile of a caliber greater than 60 caliber, except a shotgun or shotgun ammunition generally recognized as suitable for sporting purposes". He forgot the "or" part as bolded above.

I totally agree. I see too many guys try to buy there way in to Long Range Precision. After a good barrel/action/trigger and rifle, ammunition tailoring is the next component. Now all that being said, The nut behind the trigger has to be screwed tight. Lastly, to make these ULTRA Long Range shots, the stars have to be aligned and your jar of Karma full. And believe me I'm not taking anything away from the skill of the sniper.... But at these distances you don't hear the report right away and don't really know where the shot is coming from, thus the shooter gets multiple attempts to make the shot with his spotter's correcting instructions. Hat's off to that Canuck. Quite a job. I'm sure given the opportunity a Yank could do as well but we have a different MOS.
