    Wrong finger for that Rob!

Time and time again I see people posting, shoot what you're comfortable with. Regardless of reliability, what the forum thinks, what the reviews are, etc. Now...@ghanson is posting that his wife is comfortable shooting a certain pistol and it's not good enough? As long as it shoots, and she's comfortable shooting it. You're good to go. Congrats on her new gun!

ugh bersa have nothing but problems with mine, 500 rounds through it still fails to feed, eject, stovepipe every malfunction possible. only gun i regret buying.

My wife just got her 1st gun today. I have introduced her to shooting and taught her the basic fundamentals with my own guns than we rented Berretta 22 and Walther PPQ 9mm with a range Groupon. She started with the 22 and when she got comfortable wanted to try the 9, she did well. Now she has her own and I'm looking forward to continuing the lessons 🖒🖒

Mrs. Peel Stanhope House is still open. I saw Squeeze at the Hole In The Wall back in the day. I think the opening act was The B-52's. Biggest mistake I ever made was some friends said the were going over to Hitsville in Passaic to see some new band from Ireland. I blew it of. The band was U2.

Some of the high tech large ranges do maintenance on their rental guns and keep detailed computerized info about the guns. That can give you a pretty good idea of the guns performance over time based upon tens of thousands of hours of use, etc. not just comments from a few people. btw: I didn't want to add my own thoughts just for the reasons you mentioned but I would agree 100% about Glocks reliability.

I don't need to do that. I've been around long enough to form my own opinions. IMO if you want the utmost reliability get a 9mm Glock. That opinion is not formed from what Joe at the gun shop told me or comments from Mike and Charlie at the range. That's from overseeing a couple of hundred 17s, 19s, and 26s for over 10 years. Had exactly one part break (that was from putting the gun together incorrectly) and can count total malfunctions on my fingers. Most of those were ammo related. I've got a Taurus 357 that's worked fine for nearly 30 years. That's supposed to be a POS according to many. Ask the NJSP what they think of SIGs after they got jerked around by SIG trying to fix their guns. That's why they went to Glocks. My Ruger P90 I've had for about 25 years was half the price of a SIG 220 at the time. It does and continues to do everything a 220 does. Not being critical of you. At least you're speaking of your experience. My Bersa works, yours didn't. I went through the same thing as you did with a Walther. They couldn't make it run right and neither could I. I still own a few Walthers but I have always found them ammo sensitive.

In my (ever growing) collection I have the usual suspects; Sig, Ruger, S&W. My dad, however, does have a Bersa along with a HK and Glock. My dad is retired LE so he is one of the very few/very lucky ones in NJ that can carry and on his lighter days he carries the Bersa. I don't know how many total rounds he has through his Bersa but during a range trip together I put 100 rounds thru with no problem but I did have a FTE with his VP9. Now I'm not blaming the VP, it is a good gun overall just I don't care for the paddle mag release myself. Maybe my dad got lucky with his Bersa????? I'm not sure. This pistol is my wifes 1st and she was just looking for something to start out with, she looked at several guns and she liked the size and feel of this one, hopefully she got a good one........... Just posted my personal experience with them, the one i own is a lemon. wasted alot of 380 trying to break it in as bersa suggested.

I think it depends on your local dept., but most had converted to the "electronic" background check submission. This, if you still have a valid FPID and don't need to be fingerprinted, etc. The electronic background check is available via this URL: NJSP - Form 212A on Line... But let your local dept. advise as to if you need to do this. The cost I believe is about $18.00 for this form. If you need to be fingerprinted again, then you probably have to make an appt. with Ident-2-Go and that will be in the $55-60 range. And, yes, $5.00 for a new FPID and $2.00 for each new P2P. You can download the two new forms on-line as well. STS-033 and SP-066. Hope this helps. Regards, Arnold.

Go to a couple of gun ranges that rent guns and ask them which ones are the most reliable.

The only thing I know about Bersa is from the two I have. One is an older SA kind of based on a Beretta Model 70 and a newer 380. They both work well and never gave me any problems. I would not feel unarmed or disadvantaged if I had to use one. Less expensive guns are not all junk as some seem to think. There are crappy SIGs, Walthers, Berettas, and S&Ws out there too. Like Infamous said, if it works and she's happy with it that's all that's required. Telling a new shooter their gun is a POS (Bersa isn't IMO) unless it really is very discouraging. Everyone doesn't need a SIG (which I don't particularly like). From what I've read Hi Points work well and they are no where near a Bersa in quality. I have a Raven for about 30 years with at least a few hundred rounds through it. Its not very accurate past about 15 feet Now that's more than a few steps below a Bersa in quality. Mine works and I would rather have it than a stick to defend myself. Everyone doesn't need an $800 SD gun.

Don't discourage her! Simply let her know, you get what you pay for.....Encourage her to continue and that a home defense weapon must be reliable above all else. I like my Raven .22 but I will never stake my life on it! Look at used good quality guns like Sig. Ask the range for some reliable rentals for HD then see it she shoots it well.

Bersa - not one we see/talk about a lot here. But hey, if she likes it, more power to her!

Once we're moved into the new house, the wife and kid will be out of town for a while so I should be able to get in some range time at SCFGPA. I'll let you know.

Thank you! I will probably start taking people up on offers. And thank you for saying you "let permits burn" -- it's easy around here to get swept up in "permit fever". Seems like a lot of forum members have that disease! LOL.

I have a Cabela's hard case I picked up a few weeks ago just for this purpose, since the plastic case it came with is very cheap and flimsy. And I just grabbed two combination master locks for the gun case. I'll just use the other lock on our luggage. Neither of us are going down with keys so I figured combo padlocks will be easier, with no keys to keep track of. I'm probably just being paranoid because I've never flown with a firearm before, but I definitely want to keep this as simple as possible. Spirit looks like they just cut and paste their guidelines from the TSA's, but I will print out a copy to bring along with my other paperwork, that seems like a good idea. Thank you everyone for the input so far! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous about it, but it's nice to see nobody has had any bad experiences.
  29. 1 point
No TSA locks on the gun case. Only you should have access to the firearm. TSA will come get you if they need to open and inspect. Go to the ticket counter and say: "I need to declare an unloaded firearm in my checked bag" do not say "I have a gun". The gate agent will walk you through the rest of the process.

It's not an A1 comp. BCM GF Mod-0 bought and installed at HGW. I was set to have a Carlson's Mini Comp installed but saw Tom had the mod-0 on the shelf. Tom has a NJSP letter saying the Mod-0 is legal. Much better look than the Carlson's.

@nickjc I can't say I recall his other posts but if it wasn't sarcasm that right there is the problem. Too many willing to have their God Given Rights infringed upon. No arms that can be beared should be banned or restricted for law abiding citizens. NFA, GCA, Hughes Amendment, NJ Assault Weapon Ban, NY SAFE Act are all Unconstitutional and need to be eliminated. I can't stand the hunters and sport shooters who sit back and say who cares, who needs more than 5 rounds. If the government has it, the people need it. The Second Amendment was the fail safe for when all other checks and balances failed. These next few years are our best opportunity to reverse the tyranny. We can not sit back and allow a Wall Street Liberal to further infringe on our rights. The line needs to be drawn in the sand. Option 1 is defeat him at the ballot box. Option 2 is refuse to comply. Here's a good "for instance"... Right meow, as I type this, dem operatives are signing up whomever they can to "early vote". I put "early vote" in quotes because it's the shell game they play with voter rolls. The local operatives get names of the dead, dying and house bound democrats, along with legitimate voters lured in to an "event" that feeds them to sign up for early and absentee votes. Once the vote is cast, there's no identifying it so you can't nullify fraudulent votes. Early voting is a problem one that the dems use to their advantage. Republicans have no such program. As I keep saying, we don't play this game well. Frankly we are too honorable to game the system. We aren't even good at gerrymandering, which is a huge loophole in voter rights. We need to turn the tables. The NRA should be rounding up people to vote early now... Murphy is an avoidable disaster. Tell someone to vote for Kim today. Have them do the same to the next guy or girl. To working folk this crap sounds silly and infantile. But it's how a community organizer got into a place where he tried to take guns away from social security recipients. Kim needs to spin CC to use against Murphy. He's going to hit her hard with Christie, she needs to defuse it by accepting the connection not trying to distance herself. Trump can help her.

Hey, I thought we were supposed to be carrying in NJ by June? What's the deal? Where'd those guys go? LOL

I am just getting into this myself and shot my first 3-gun match in Old Bridge on April 23. There are a few ways you can go here: Do you already have one? If you do it's probably best to just start with that. If you don't, you may want to consider something relatively inexpensive. Of course you can spend more now and get several competition level upgrades but then a year or more later decide that you wished you had something else. At first, until you get some good experience, your equipment won't be what's holding you back.

Damn I hate to say this but I agree with Zeke. The defeatist pussy attitude many of you show combined with the amount of stupid gun owners who still vote Dem is why this state sucks. Trump won because the working class actually voted. If the working class gets out and votes in NJ we will at least get another GOP governor. Maybe this time he won't be a RINO. Calm down all, they haven't even shipped yet. They will all go to Aniston, AL to be inventoried, sorted, checked by a smith, even before being offered for sale. By the time the first batch goes up for sale you will have forgotten about it.
