I dont understand why some are stuck on "does it allow carry with non resident permit". It should not matter. I like the senate bill to pass even if it means NJ citizens cannot carry but other residents can carry in NJ. That in itself is a HUGE achievement and stepping stone in right direction.

Calm down boys, this is going to be a negotiation. You want to enhance NICS? We want Reciprocal. President Trump won't sign your stand alone without us. Everything else, is hearsay, propaganda and Bullshit. Don't buy into it. get a bowl of popcorn and watch the show.

For the vote? Simply put: No. however, all calls get logged and they must see support for the 2A in NJ. my close friend works in Congress and explained to me how all calls and vote requests get logged. Both calls will take you no more than 60 seconds to make. Just say you’d like to urge the senator to support national conceal carry 60 seconds...

Yes it does, it kind of makes that trip to the range with the handgun and no deviations a joke don’t it? So yes, we have to drive directly to the range and technically can’t stop for fuel or food but now everyone else will be getting off the NJTP looking for burger joints feeding their faces with their S&W 642's in their pants and I’ll still be the golden boy going to and from with no detours. Can’t make this stuff up LOL

That’s true, didn’t look at it that way so if it does pass and it gives NJ lawmakers grief then it was worth it

FYI: you are opening Pandora’s Box I say get a basic Remington 700 or if you want to spend a little more, a Ruger Precision Rifle in .308. Chose a moderately priced 1-10x scope, a rear bag, a bunch of ammo, a quality spotting scope and tripod, sling, data book, a range finder, and a kestrel. This is going to be crazy crazy expensive without even getting into the $7.00 around calibers. Learn how to shoot at distance - it will be cheaper to learn on .308 than any of these Gucci Calibers that may not be around forever (.308 isn't going anywhere) so you'll get more trigger time for your money. More time.behind the gun = proficiency - and let's face it, the US Mil has been killing bad guys at 1000 yards with .308 for years. It will likely do everything you want it to do. After you have the basics down or you have reached a point where you are outshooting your equipment, you can upgrade your optics or your rifle. You can probably sell the .308 RPR with little to no monetary loss and pick up another caliber if you feel the need.

The US cleaners are a waste of money. We have one at work and I hate it. It's more work than just cleaning it yourself. OP - If it takes you longer than 10 minutes to clean your carbine, you are doing it wrong. Too much cleaning can actually wear parts. Don't stress over it, you don't have to make it inspection presentable. Break it down, wipe it off, inspect for wear, snake the barrel, lube it, and put it back together.
  14. 2 points
If it really bothers you use carb cleaner. Remember the gas pressure is pretty high there so you can't get a significant build up. I've only been shooting M16s/M4s/ARS fir almost 50 years so what can I know?

Another potential option is for Trump to threaten to veto any fix nics bill that does not contain CCW reciprocity.

Your not going to get around the NJ premium you have to pay. Just buy pinned/altered mags and go shoot.

Call both of them 2x a day flood them with support diane and schmuck!
  19. 2 points
You need to call them up and say that they need to support fix NICS even if they have to compromise and get concealed carry passed as part of it, you don't like it but you are willing to sacrifice for the greater good of background checks - tell them you're sacrificing "for the children."

Even if the senate version comes through with the home state permit requirement, it's still an improvement. The net effect of essentially every other resident of the United States able to carry in NJ while NJ residents cannot will start heads exploding.

Sonic cleaner easy to use, just a capful of solution in water, run the cycle a few times, brush, rinse, a turn in the dryer, lube, assemble. I spend a lot less time scrubbing than I used too. Not every time but often enough to keep it manageable.

Putting a budget 6.5 Creed together now based on a Ruger American Predator I picked up for $380 OTD. An Athlon Talos FFP 4-14x44 I got for $175 and an Odin Atlas Comp for $85. Wanna see just how far I can push it. Not expecting miracles just seeing if this low end hype is justified.

I agree with most of this but if your target range is inside of 700 you cold get a 700 or RPR in a Match chambered .223 and spend even less. The main reason I’m following Bully and putting together a .223.

I was about to post but HE said everything I would have said. A 308 Savage will deliver what you are looking for. Just about any 7.62 NATO gives me about an inch groups at 100 and 3 at 300. Still plenty of 7.62 NATO around at reasonable prices If you feel you need more after you master the 308 you can move on. I've been happy with the 308 for years.

They are messy, chemicals you have to dispose of, you still have to prep the parts and wipe them down. When you are done you need to blow the dry, then make sure you lube them properly. Too much work for a firearm you are using regularly. Maybe if you are restoring old neglected guns they have a place but to clean your beater AR or your favorite training guns it is overkill.

While this laudable, I find it laughable that the LEO giving this seminar had the hutzpah to stand before this crowd and say the following, “The only person that’s going to save your life is you.” Easily said, but a little difficult to execute given that the state has co-opted our right to self-defense. What are we supposed to do? Throw hymnals at them and pray? Those are the only options that I see. 51 to get a presidential nominee confirmed, which was extended to a Supreme Court pick this year and that which fits under the reconciliation rules (which this does not) If they don't get the 60 (closure of debate) (unless there is a rule change), the minority party (dems) can block a vote if they want so they really need 60 The problem is the Senate Rules (unless they change the rules), but the majority party is hesitant to change usually because it can come back to haunt them when they are in the minority
  34. 1 point
I don't see them getting the requisite number of Dem votes to hit 60. This is not going nuclear. If this is voted down in the Senate, it is a dead issue for the immediate future.

"Texas Sen. John Cornyn, the number two Senate GOP Leader, said on Monday that merging the gun bills complicated the path forward in the Senate and suggested splitting off the background check fix. He has a bipartisan bill on that issue with Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy." This is what will happen in the senate. They split the bills up again, CCW dies, fix nics passes and gets sent back to the house where it passes and we are hosed. Unless enough house members have a spine and refuse to support the fix nics bill without CCW attached but that is a long shot.

old ammoland article discussing vulnerable senate Dems who may vote "Yes" Ammoland article from March discussing Dems in the senate who may vote "Yes" .... " A similar national reciprocity bill was put forward by Senator Cornyn in 2013. It came within 3 votes of overcoming the Senate fillibuster. 57 senators voted for it, 43 against it. After the 2016 election, that number should have switched to 58, assuming that all Republicans vote for the bill, and all Democrats who voter for it before will still vote for it. "

well, really EVERY SINGLE PLACE in nj is a soft target for deranged killers. 'cept for businesses and homes where the owners choose to take on their own personal safety.........we're just lucky that a orlando, san bernadino, or texas church hasn't happened here yet.

This is when I would expect (or is it more of a fading hope?) to see my NRA dues paying off. They should be flooding the internet with short videos about what happened to Shaneen Allen and others in NJ, NY and the other whackadoodle states - so at least ordinary citizens know what the abuses have been. It seems my expectations of a good communications campaign are always a little too high. None the less, EVERY SINGLE GUN OWNER in this state should be calling their reps on this one regardless of party. We will have to do the heavy lifting.

If you truly want big and bad, go 300Norma. Don't even look at anything else. If you want realistic, 308 and 300WinMag will do just about everything. Personally I'm not a big bore guy. I like my 6's and 6.5's. As far as "power", that would depend on what you mean. A 6.5C or 6.5x47L has more down range power past "x" yards than a 308 because of BC (ballistic coefficient). I've seen it first hand. I was in a small class with 3 guys shooting 308. I was shooting my 6.5/47. Beyond them needing to make wind calls on anything past 300 yards and me not needing to until it was past 500 yards, I shot at a 6" steel plate at 650 and smacked it so aggressively that it spun off the stand about a foot in the air. I have a witness. He saw it better than I did and said it was pretty spectacular. He also mentioned that it pissed him off because he was going to pull the trigger on it after me. So, before you go all "operator" it's best to define what you mean by what you say. If you want to have a flat trajectory to 6-700 yards pushing a relatively massive projectile, go Norma. Be prepared to spend. If you want to shoot at reasonable cost, with an effective round that will accomplish what most civilians need to accomplish on a range (dinging steel and punching paper) go with a 6mm or 6.5mm and don't look back. 6 or 6.5Creed and .243 would be my choices. If you want to learn wind and have a ton of fun at very reasonable cost, build a slow twist .223 shoot factory 55grain quality ammo all day. I'm really not a 308 guy. I had one (or two). The benefit of 308 is the relatively large availability of match quality factory ammo. The down sides are that given the recoil and somewhat low BC, the round just doesn't do that well for what I use it for. I don't know much, but feel free to PM me and I'll help in any way I can.

I understand your point. But you're talking 1789 and 1868 not 2017. The COTUS and laws passed by Congress are the law of the land. It says so in the COTUS. When states violate the rights guaranteed in the COTUS that's when the Federal government steps in. From my perspective most SCOTUS cases are 1st, 4th, and 5th Amendment issues. Rather than plead cases in front of SCOTUS Congress has taken the perogative and is passing a law first. Each states requirements for a carry permit define that state's interpretation of the 2A. There are what? Maybe 10 antigun states to varying degrees? 40 others are progun to different degrees. If...and I doubt if, this ever goes to SCOTUS all that in taken into consideration. This is when the antigun states will argue this law is in violation of the 10A. Going to SCOTUS over this law is a crapshoot I don't think liberals want to try.
