For all you whiners out there that are always complaining about how the NRA doesn't do anything for us - feast your eyes on this... http://www.anjrpc.org/ February 5-ANJRPC announced today that it has filed suit in federal court to overturn New Jersey's draconian restrictions on carrying a handgun outside the home for self-defense! Under New Jersey law, a permit to carry a handgun may be issued only to those citizens who show that they face a unique need for self-defense - such as specific, documented death threats or actual attacks. Ordinary citizens are barred from carrying a handgun outside the home for self-defense, under threat of up to 10 years in prison. The new lawsuit seeks to overturn New Jersey's carry law on the ground that it violates the Second Amendment. Click here to see a copy of the complaint in the case. In the landmark 2008 Heller decision, the U.S. Supreme Court held that the Second Amendment protects the individual right to keep and bear arms for self-protection, and it struck down a District of Columbia law banning the possession of firearms in the home. "The core Second Amendment right of armed self-defense is just as important to an ordinary New Jersey citizen when she is traveling through a dangerous neighborhood as it is when she is safe in her home," said ANJRPC Executive Director Scott Bach. "The Supreme Court has said that the States cannot ban people from keeping firearms for self-defense in their homes, and New Jersey's restrictions on carrying firearms outside the home will meet the same end." Federal courts in New Jersey have previously upheld the State's restrictions, but the new lawsuit-which was filed in cooperation with the National Rifle Association-asks the courts to take another look at the issue, based on a recent federal decision striking down the District of Columbia's similar law as flatly unconstitutional. "We thank the NRA for its incredible support and guidance, which made this new lawsuit possible," continued Bach. "The Supreme Court has repeatedly held that police have no legal duty to protect individual citizens from harm, which means you're on your own in an emergency," Bach continued. "The same government that abandons its duty to keep you safe should not also block your Constitutional right to protect yourself. Right to carry's time is coming in the Garden State, and ANJRPC and NRA are at the forefront of that movement." Although the lawsuit has already been filed, ANJRPC requests that anyone recently denied a carry permit in New Jersey contact us ASAP at [email protected]. Adios, Pizza Bob

Nice meeting you @remixer... oh wait, you weren’t there. Maybe next time you can use your extremely sharp senses to help you get to the range

Jeebus..... Show me one person that has gone to jail for 10 years for stopping to pee on the way home from the range. I’ll wait..... Where do you guys come up with some of his stuff. It’s like an urban legend that everyone believes in because one idiot said it’s true or it happened to their cousin’s girlfriend’s aunt’s former roommate. Again! It is black and white. “The actor is not obliged to retreat from his dwelling, unless he was the initial aggressor” You have an expectation of safety in your home. You have no obligation to retreat from there if you are being attacked or threatened with death or serious bodily injury. That doesn’t necessarily mean that escape isn’t a better option if it is available to you, but if you have to use force in your home, you are covered.

Blowing shit up is cool. When I take women to the range, yanno what they like? Not that I taught them to shoot a rifle, not that their groups are an inch smaller at the end of the day. What they like is seeing a 75gr hollow point put into a gallon container of water at 100 yards. Every time they see it they say, "wow, that's cool". Chicks dig blowing shit up to. Oh, and another thing, when they shooting their own ammo, they seem to take forever to pull the trigger, but when they are shooting mine, it's like they are Jerry Mikulek.

If you read the email, it specifically mention that NRA is involved in the lawsuit in a supporting role. Emphasis mine

Oh i was not worried about being shot.. More concerned about being ran over while they park the car.

Sorry man, I'll just have to go ahead and disagree with you there. Any time someone snuffs their own candle, it's tragic. It may be selfish and they may be weak, but it's still tragic regardless of where it happens.

And .50BMG even moreso. Ray, you are a lover of all things shotgun (weirdo*) and fairly learned on the topic (for a weirdo*) - would you use slugs in a HD gun? Hell, you don’t even want to use 00B and prefer birdshot (like a weirdo*). *said with love

Dude, this is completely untrue. Fake news!!!

just wore a bit jacket for the 1st time yesterday during training. when u see an 85lb GSD come charging at you, I almost shit myself. when he jumped/bit, he hit the right bicep, so it was a relief. end result = almost had to change my drawers! what an adrenaline rush for both of us!

@IndianajonzeWhy don’t you read the actual law instead of spouting complete nonsense that is wrong. You have no obligation to retreat from your dwelling, unless you are the one causing the situation requiring the use of force. And finally, why would you use slugs for HD? Probably the worst round you could use in a house.

I’m thrilled that ANJRPC appears to be -finally - attempting to claw back a major RKBA right. Guess they finally decided the time is right, and that there is no one in the legislative/executive side of things that they need to appease any more.

If I want to be obtuse, I'd just say that I was just stating the general magazine statute so the OP would be in the know. If I'm honest, I'd say so sue me because I don't know what Glock models are what. If it ain't steel and doesn't have one of those things that goes roundy-round I'm flying blind. Adios, Pizza Bob

Fun isn’t it! I’ve decoyed for my brother before. That being said, if you didn’t care about hurting the dog and came prepared - bat, gun, taser, fire extinguisher - could you have put that dog down? Depends. What does the bad guy want? Does he want you have more than he wants what your neighbor has? It is all about preparation. Burglars are getting more and more sophisticated and ballsy. They are casing houses, gathering intel. They are patient and prepared.

It is not nuanced. It’s literally right there in the statute. “The actor is not obliged to retreat from his dwelling, unless he was the initial aggressor” As for slugs, unless you have a hallway well over 50 yards and your target is all the way down there you are going to have over penetration issues even if you hit your intended threat. Slugs will always carry over penetrarion concerns. They hit hard and punch through meat. Slugs generally have more recoil and longer split times between follow up shots. 5.56 has significantly less overpenetration issues than slugs AND the projectiles lose energy faster (translating to less lethality and potential for injury) after passing through typical US construction material than either pistol or shotgun rounds that are suitable for defense.

If it's your house, you are not the aggressor and the cops aren't the ones in your house, you are covered. The below act is for all self-protection (all not just in the house). You will note that there is no duty to retreat from your home (dwelling). 2C:3-4 Use of force in self-protection. 2C:3-4. Use of Force in Self-Protection. a. Use of force justifiable for protection of the person. Subject to the provisions of this section and of section 2C:3-9, the use of force upon or toward another person is justifiable when the actor reasonably believes that such force is immediately necessary for the purpose of protecting himself against the use of unlawful force by such other person on the present occasion. b.Limitations on justifying necessity for use of force. (1)The use of force is not justifiable under this section: (a)To resist an arrest which the actor knows is being made by a peace officer in the performance of his duties, although the arrest is unlawful, unless the peace officer employs unlawful force to effect such arrest; or (b)To resist force used by the occupier or possessor of property or by another person on his behalf, where the actor knows that the person using the force is doing so under a claim of right to protect the property, except that this limitation shall not apply if: (i)The actor is a public officer acting in the performance of his duties or a person lawfully assisting him therein or a person making or assisting in a lawful arrest; (ii)The actor has been unlawfully dispossessed of the property and is making a reentry or recaption justified by section 2C:3-6; or (iii) The actor reasonably believes that such force is necessary to protect himself against death or serious bodily harm. (2)The use of deadly force is not justifiable under this section unless the actor reasonably believes that such force is necessary to protect himself against death or serious bodily harm; nor is it justifiable if: (a)The actor, with the purpose of causing death or serious bodily harm, provoked the use of force against himself in the same encounter; or (b)The actor knows that he can avoid the necessity of using such force with complete safety by retreating or by surrendering possession of a thing to a person asserting a claim of right thereto or by complying with a demand that he abstain from any action which he has no duty to take, except that: (i)The actor is not obliged to retreat from his dwelling, unless he was the initial aggressor; and (ii)A public officer justified in using force in the performance of his duties or a person justified in using force in his assistance or a person justified in using force in making an arrest or preventing an escape is not obliged to desist from efforts to perform such duty, effect such arrest or prevent such escape because of resistance or threatened resistance by or on behalf of the person against whom such action is directed. (3)Except as required by paragraphs (1) and (2) of this subsection, a person employing protective force may estimate the necessity of using force when the force is used, without retreating, surrendering possession, doing any other act which he has no legal duty to do or abstaining from any lawful action. c. (1) Notwithstanding the provisions of N.J.S.2C:3-5, N.J.S.2C:3-9, or this section, the use of force or deadly force upon or toward an intruder who is unlawfully in a dwelling is justifiable when the actor reasonably believes that the force is immediately necessary for the purpose of protecting himself or other persons in the dwelling against the use of unlawful force by the intruder on the present occasion. (2)A reasonable belief exists when the actor, to protect himself or a third person, was in his own dwelling at the time of the offense or was privileged to be thereon and the encounter between the actor and intruder was sudden and unexpected, compelling the actor to act instantly and: (a)The actor reasonably believed that the intruder would inflict personal injury upon the actor or others in the dwelling; or (b)The actor demanded that the intruder disarm, surrender or withdraw, and the intruder refused to do so. (3)An actor employing protective force may estimate the necessity of using force when the force is used, without retreating, surrendering possession, withdrawing or doing any other act which he has no legal duty to do or abstaining from any lawful action.

this is all most of us want i think. ones goal should be just to make their place(be it business or home) look less appetizing than the next persons. that's really the best we can do. if my place looks hard as hell......and my neighbors doesn't......where's the bad guy gonna go?

Yup. Contrary to the popular saying: Practice does not make perfect - It merely makes permanent. It should be: Perfectly Performed Pertinent Procedures Practiced Properly Produces Perfection.
  41. 2 points
Practice certainly helps, but it needs to be practice that matches what you are going to be doing. Pumping the gun while standing still is sufficiently different then doing it on the move, doing it while mounting or dismounting the gun, doing it while handling recoil, while your hands are sweaty, etc.

http://www.nj.com/news/local/index.ssf/2009/11/post_36.html Been addressed. ADA steps up. Under any circumstance there are drunks and drugies out there not caught yet. Could be you or me. Current laws or adjusted laws have these people slipping under the wire. You got me there. Can’t even address that one. How so? Did he/she rob Post Finance? Then it’s criminal. Did he/she go nuts on someone or something? Then it’s mental. And it’s up to the armed forces to keep NICS advised as such. Did he refuse to shave or get en illegal tattoo? Not criminal or mental. Just dumb. Criminal Criminal I want the above classified correctly to fall under constitutional laws. Not defined by Lawyers, Wall Streeters or Real Estate agents who turned career Politicians for the benefits or legacy. Those who don’t have a clue and/or don’t give a shit about anyone but themselves.

But we do have the right. And that's the point. To SJG's point; I agree it will take a judgment from the SCOTUS. It may not take as long as you think either. With enough cases it may end up there sooner. Just pray not sooner that Ginsberg leaves us.
