That is what I think the plan is. Get so many involved that have been denied, then the state either grants the permits en masse and defends why the next round of permits aren't granted, or the state stays in the fight and the courts rule against the state, thus leading to CCW for everyone. Ah, ok, I did misunderstand. Frankly, I haven't delved into those previous cases! But, I see your point... once the permit was in hand, the harm to those plaintiffs was effectively "undone" and the case ended from a legal standpoint. Makes total sense! Presumably that's why this case is structured as it is... why it's including other plaintiffs, both individuals and an unnamed large group of gun owners (e.g., "10's of thousands"). I'm guessing... the plan might be that even as individual plaintiff's permits might get granted (forcing them to drop out), ANJRPC will backfill them with more plaintiffs... to keep the case rolling and rolling and rolling... all the way to SCOTUS? But, honestly, I have to go back and listen to the rest of that radio program - this is getting interesting! Either way, I am delighted the game is afoot! I hope this case is "the one", and if not, that there's another one right on its heels. I'd like to see ANJRPC/NRA become a freakin' NIGHTMARE for this new governor!

Another great starting point is IDPA. There is a match coming up at SCFGPA (Somerset County Fish & Game Protective Association) in Bridgewater, not too far off Rt 202. You do need some experience shooting and the main thing is to be safe There is a safety briefing, for new shooters (new to IDPA) before the match. This is a small match consisting of 4 stages. You can register here... http://www.somersetidpa.com/matches/ I'll PM you some other relevant information. Adios, Pizza Bob

I am glad the 2A groups are getting behind the latest lawsuit and I am even more ecstatic that Nappen is not the attorney. I hope this isn't a one and done lawsuit and many more are filed. Follow the lead of California and use the methods the Scientologists did. Bury them with so many lawsuits they don't know which way is up. Get injunctions as soon as the laws are signed. With leash training you want exactly that kinda result. When my dogs start to pull they get a sharp tug( with a command) and we stop walking. When their attention is on me we start walking again. After time those sharp tugs is enough and we don't even stop. After even more time the command works effectively. And praise for walking nicely. Our hound gets a little pep in his step when we praise him, it's kinda funny. People make the mistake of letting their dog walk them. There shouldn't be tension on a leash when walking. The more you're aware of their triggers, the more you can predict when a tug will be necessary and pull in some leash slack.

If it doesn't matter, I would go for this one. “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” It would be great to have it in writing that this does not apply in NJ

    1) there is nothing in any of the statutes which says we cannot transport loaded mags. 2) the guys that spent so much money suing, supposedly hoping their case would go to the supreme court so that nj's laws would be busted got their permits, and then backed off. what's a nj ccw good for? 2 years? what're they gonna do when they don't get renewed?

That is always going to be up to the prick that pulls you over....Most cops are very understanding but others are not. They resent the fact you even own a gun, they are use to "them only" (except politicians, judges and prosecutors) Their Lives are so much more important than yours! Therein lies the problem...Piss on Loretta Weinberg and all the rest of them!
  18. 1 point
I guess I live on the edge, but there is nothing in the law that says loaded magazines separate from the firearm is illegal. What is the purpose of bringing extra mags to the range if you have to load them when you get there? Also keep in mind you are asking attorneys they are going to advise don't do it to protect themselves. Nappen actively promoted the myth. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

I assure you, that wasn't my intention! In fact, I've stated on NJGF more than once that applying "en masse" seemed like a good strategy to me for a multitude of reasons. I simply got leery when I heard what sounded like people "assuming" they'll be invited to join as a plaintiff, etc. There's no guarantees of that, of course. That said, I guess there's no downside to applying either. What's the worst that happens? You get denied for lack of justifiable need and maybe you can't afford the lawsuit on your own? So... you don't sue. You're really no worse off, I guess, than you were before you applied! You still don't have a CCW permit. And the NJSP rep has already confirmed it doesn't hurt your chance to reapply at some future point, either within NJ if the law changes... or in another state.

It’s true. Putting words together for lawyers is what my “Henry Fiancé” does for a living. I’d only like to add that they definitely will put together words that will muddy the waters if that’s their intent. And often it is. So you can rest assured it’s crafted in a deliberate manner. I hear it daily when “how was your day” time comes around. That being said, I think one of the cleverest moves here is not just the 2A but also the 14thA. Even treatment. Disparaging treatment with regards to the constitution and it’s citizens. I think that’s the blindside that will carry a lot of weight here.

At first you might want to try a match with no movement. You start at a single spot and shoot at either plates or paper targets. There will typically be around 5 stages with different target arrangements, sizes, and distances. The Glock matches are great for beginners although there are not many in a given area. The next one in NJ is in June. The steel matches at OBRPC are also good for a first time match (and you don't have to be a member to shoot there). They are on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month. You can even shoot them with a .22 if you want to and you don't need a holster (you start in the low ready position). 5 or 6 stages with 5 plates each. With anything but a .22 you would draw from a holster but you don't have to. You can also start at the low ready position but in that case you would receive additional seconds penalty. Their matches start at 9 am but get there earlier at 08:15 - 08:30 to go through the new shooters walk through (not necessarily new to shooting but new to that competition). You can register for the matches at www.steelscoring.com or you can just come and register at the match (preregistration is much easier to do) It might be a little far from you but shooters even come from PA and NY. The only other equipment you would need is 5 or 6 magazines (If you don't have that many magazines other people will usually help you loading your magazines while you are shooting). You can put the magazines on the start table. OB has a new shooters page that will give you a feeling for the matches (thanks Adam): http://www.obsteelchallenge.com/new-shooters-steel-challenge Also bring lots of ammo. If you only needed one bullet per target you would require 150 cartridges for 6 stages x 5 targets x 5 runs/stage so 250 - 300 should be enough. Don't worry about your times just go out to have fun. Check out youtube for video's of the matches. Beware that it can become addictive

Still have my HP from the 70's and it still is a working gun in service. I do have polymer wonders too but the HP still has a place. A bit heavy by todays standards and my G19 has replaced it for a go to gun. I carried it for years when I was told to get a serious gun. It always fed hollow points well back in the day and never hiccupped. It now resides in a desk draw and I'm as secure with it as I ever was. Big mistake discontinuing.

I was out today (shooting, yay!)... hence my delayed response. I'm not sure "standing" is quite as cut and dry as many people think. Again, I'm not a lawyer... but I can read and interpret. And, as a layperson, I read through these simple Wikipedia definitions (below) and it appears to me that "standing" may come from direct harm -or- indirect harm. Further, it shows that the mere threat of harm can cause a "chilling effect" on people exercising their "constitutional" rights specifically - and that indeed confers a indirect form of "legal standing". Hmmmm....! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_(law) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chilling_effect If you read that second citation, it notes that it's the fear of "legal sanction" that causes this (legal) chilling effect. So, with all of that in mind, I went back and reread that lawsuit. Let me draw your attention to Para. 36 which states: Plaintiff ANJRPC has numerous members who wish to carry a handgun outside the home for self-defense but have not applied for a Handgun Carry Permit because they know that, although they satisfy or can satisfy all other requirements of N.J.S.A. 2C:58-4, they are unable to satisfy the “justifiable need” requirement. But for Defendants’ continued enforcement of the New Jersey laws and regulations set forth above, those members would forthwith carry a handgun outside the home for self-defense but refrain from doing so for fear of arrest and prosecution. [boldface//underlining added by me]. Words matter! And, usually, every phrase in a well-constructed lawsuit is there for a very specific legal reason... (lawyers don't like adding superfluous "ideas" that could muddy the waters, so to speak). Though it appears that the chilling effect doctrine is most commonly applied to 1st amendment cases, it sounds like they're trying to apply it in this case to the 2nd amendment. Paragraph 36 makes the argument that (aside from the 2 plaintiffs) - this "chilling effect" is far broader and impacts a very large number of people. (I'm sure this is the wrong legal phrasing, but I think the way this lawsuit is structured almost lends a "class action" vibe). Members of the jury... I rest my case! (LMAO!!)

We are holding an intro to USPSA course at Shongum I believe I n April. It will be comprised of classroom learning plus live fire shooting a couple of stages. Knockdown steel at Old Bridge is a great match to start with as you start at low ready so no drawing from the holster is used and there is little movement.

He's a great self promoter. I called his office 3 times, told him it was gun related and important. Told he will call me right back. That was 2 years ago....I never got that call back. Your entitled to your opinion, but not your own facts. He didn't know me from Adam I could have been you, I don't think he would have called you back neither. What good is a Gun attorney, if they don't call you back? Perhaps if I was headline news he would have rushed in like Zorro and rescue me... I personally have no use for someone like that. Remember, You are entitled to ONE phone call....

And makes his money on book sales and charges people to hear him speak. What do I base his unfounded statements causing people to repeat what he says as gospel? How about a loaded magazine by itself is illegal in NJ? I find him to be overrated and IMO he has done absolutely nothing for NJ Firearms Owners other than plead some cases out. I am not a fan of Nappen and I’m sorry if that hurts anyone's feelings. Since you seem to be close to Nappen how about next time you speak to him ask him what happened to taking the Pantano case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

I'm going with Mossberg 500 in 12ga. 24" barrel. Can shoot birdshot, buckshot and slugs. Handgun would be Glock 19. Parts are readily available and everyone sells 12ga and 9mm ammo. If we can go one platform with multiple barrels/uppers I'd go with a sig with 9mm and 22 upper. And for long gun a T/C Encore with multiple barrels....22, 12ga, .223, .300 win mag.

Once again, I am pleased to have started a thread that inspires thought and encourages open discussion. Remember the Colonists didn't agree 100% on everything and often had bitter debates and even resentments. Thank all of you, for your input. I value your thoughts and opinions. now i just learned something else tonight. i put the harness on her when i walked her tonight. it's the kind with the d-ring in front right at her chest. she stood still while i put it on, but got antsy a couple times....easily solved by petting her belly. adjusted it, leashed her, and went out for a walk. she was literally a different dog. she'd give very super light tugs here n there, but no pulling ahead of me, no pulling towards someones yard 'cause she smelled their pets, none of that crap. and tonights walk was almost 2 miles......normally just under a mile. i'm learning something new every night it seems. i'm happy with that.

I spent 20+ years in the trades. I've supervised a lot of tradesmen including a lot of plumbers. I didn't trust sharkbite fittings when they first came out. I didn't believe they could be as secure as a glued fitting. We still very, very rarely use one. We work in commercial buildings and use a lot of copper, some pex, and a little bit of PVC and CPVC. We use pro-press fittings (crimp on) whenever we can't get water to shut off completely and still have a trickle. But that equipment costs thousands of dollars. Lots of professional plumbers now trust shark bite fittings. I've never seen one fail. I now believe they are as good as a glued joint. But...I still can't bring myself to walk away from an o-ring and flimsy strip of metal without worrying when it will fail. As I said, I've never seen one fail. They have proven themselves to be dependable. The problem is admittedly me, not the fittings but I won't use one.
