I usually never find anything good locally anymore. I was lucky enough to purchase this Colt 1911a1 about a month ago.The pistol slide number doesn’t match the frame number unfortunately. This pistol was part of an estate liquidation. I ended up getting the pistol for around $350 with taxes and fees.

a guy I took a Vickers class with last year said he knows him and isn't that great at shooting; takes him a while to warm up. anyway -> I'm cross-eyed dominant (Left Eye, Right Hand) and I shoot long guns lefty and handguns righty. I didn't know how I wanted to set myself up to run rifles/long guns, but I was watching youtube and learned that Larry Vickers is the same. Much easier to have a dominant eye on the long gun with two eyes open plus makes support side manipulation "easier". Just my two cents.

When Reagan announced "Star Wars" there wasn't one piece of hardware in place. We had the knowledge and technology to build it and the Russians didn't. Reagan explained "Star Wars" was totally defensive. At a press conferece a reporter asked "Mr President, might Star Wars start a defense race". Reagan's response was, "wouldn't that be great". Star Wars was a big factor in SALT. The Russians offered to give up a bunch of stuff if we gave up Star Wars. Reagan said no. SALT waa supposesd to be a week but due to Reagan's response it lasted a day I think. This caused the Russians to "build more missiles, build more planes, build more tanks" in a frenzy which contributed greatly to their collapse. You couldn't buy a pair of shoes or a coat in Russia in the late 80s. That's how much of the economy the military was eating up there.

I see this topic has bubbled up yet again on another thread. By now, I've read lots of articles on this topic (being visually cross-eye dominant myself)... but none of it really clicked all that well until I started watching videos on the topic. Because if a picture is worth a thousand words, then a video is worth a million! FYI, the BEST video I've found on this topic so far is the one I'm attaching. Now, quite frankly, a lot of what it covers is still over my head, mainly because it covers types of scopes that I know nothing about (ACOGs, etc.). Some of you advanced shooters might get a lot more out of it. Nonetheless, what I liked about the video was the following: It's well-filmed with high production value... unlike a lot of stuff on YouTube It covers pistols, rifles and multiple types of scopes (shotguns is the only platform it doesn't address --- so once I find a great video on that, I'll share) Multiple methods are covered: both eyes open, one closed, shifting the position of your head, etc. It shows that one method might work better for you than others --- or you, in fact, might adopt multiple methods (for different situations) You get to see this guy transitioning seamlessly from one method to another (at amazing speed!) He even ends the video on an up note - "don't think of it as a disability - just find workarounds, train a lot", etc. >>> You know, MODS... maybe there should be a forum devoted to: VISION (Cross-eye Dominance, Presbyopia, Other). These are very common issues that affect LOTS of people, yet the threads are scattered all around the forums, making them more difficult to search/retrieve. And the topics don't always fit into the "Optics" forum either - because that's about equipment, not the person. Anyway, just a suggestion. I guess others will weigh in. Happy viewing!

Wow. Kind of a shocker! This is a fairly reasonable and balanced article about teachers being armed... FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES! (Yes, I know... I almost fainted too). It discusses some of the U.S. schools that have been arming teachers for YEARS now. One of these school districts - Sidney City Schools - (featured in the article) seemed particularly "on their game" in my mind, training monthly at the range and also training in the school itself (with air guns), etc. I certainly think it's an option schools should be allowed to consider. It might not be right for every community... that's fine. But the initial hysteria that was trying to scuttle the entire idea as outrageous... was just that: hysteria. And hysteria has no place in sound decision-making. Anyway, it's a really interesting read... and I have placed it in a general forum for the widest audience. So, that means no naughty words allowed in your posts, pls. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/trump-wants-to-arm-teachers-these-schools-already-do/ar-BBJLjkz?li=BBmkt5R&ocid=spartandhp

I already settled on shooting a pistol righty (dominant hand). I either put a dab of chapstick on my left eyeglass lens (a poor man's "blinder" of the type 10x described) or I close my left eye. That seems to work. I tried it both ways, shoot pretty equally actually... but I settled on that because when I shot lefty, it was sending the hot brass right into my face. Soooo miserable! For long guns, I've only shot a shotgun on 3 occasions (totally suck leading with the right, so what the heck, I'll try the left) and I really have NOT gotten into rifles yet. I don't mind trying lefty for both. Might as well try things now before I develop patterns. But here's a question... since most rifles are designed for right-handed people and eject on the right side, if I shoot left, won't I run into that same problem --- hot brass getting thrown directly at me instead of to the side of me?

Everyone makes such a big deal about it like it’s voodoo or something. Eye dominance issues are pretty easy - • Shoot handguns with your dominant hand • Shoot long guns with your dominant eye Just know that it is OK to shoot handguns righty and long guns lefty and vice-versa. Yes, you absolutely can train your other eye to take over - but it takes a lot of time. That time translates into a lot of ammo and, bottom line, that is expensive. It is faster and more efficient to train your weak hand to match the proficiency of your strong hand than it is to get your non dominant eye to take over for your dominant eye 100%. It is a much faster solution, and more cost effective, to work the repetitions on your weak hand than your weak eye.

I'd never heard of him either, so I got through the video without being weighed down with personal opinion. And I'm cross-eye dominant too, so this has been an area of lifelong interest. In general, his pistol advice wasn't bad, though he did confuse dominance with acuity at one point--they're not the same. It's perfectly possible for your non-dominant eye to have better visual acuity. As he said, with a handgun, it's easy enough to line up your dominant eye when shooting with two hands, and that works pretty well for most folks. Shooting weak hand only will line up the sights with the dominant eye, so that also works. Strong hand only, you might have to close your dominant eye, or better still squint it a little bit, so that the eye behind the sights picks up the picture. In the precision events, it's better still to use a blinder of some type on the non-shooting eye (tape or a translucent blinder that still transmits light is best...if you put your non-shooting eye in the dark, both eyes will dilate to compensate). I don't think precision events aren't his area of interest, so he didn't talk blinders. I don't really shoot the run-and-gun rifle events, so can't comment there. For precision events, the translucent blinder is also the way to go. Shotgun, which he didn't address, is the hardest for the cross dominant shooter. Two eyes open helps a lot, and cross dominance will force the wrong eye to try and put the bead on the bird. Most serious advice I've read on the topic says you're better off learning to shoot with the other hand, because you can't change your eye dominance. Personally, I just finished a 4 year experiment trying to shoot trap left handed, and never got my scores up to where they were when I shot right handed with my left eye closed, so I just changed my stock setup back for right handed shooting, and I'll be doing that in 2018.

I hate that kid. Lucas Botkin is a bigoted asshole that has zero background in real world gunfighting. He manipulates his videos to appear faster than he is, and tries to pass himself of as a “trainer” of LEO and Special military units. I award him no points and may God have mercy on his soul.

If I-81 is not an option (sorry it isn't... it's my favorite way to go), the next best thing I believe would be the Eastern Shore route down US-301 to US301/US50 and across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. You can get to it via I-95 (Del. Tpk). Go down Del. Route 1 (accessible from the Del. Tpk). You'll pass right by the Cabela's and the Christina Mall. Take that to Del. 896 (Boyd's Corner Rd.). That will lead you directly to US-301 S. Take that all the way down the Eastern Shore and across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and through Annapolis (across US-50) to the Capital Beltway. Yes, it's still MD, but less risky. The point is to avoid the Harbor Tunnel area and the tunnels, themselves. That's where the MTAP will be with their ALPR cameras. Furthermore, depending on the time of day, being on that section of the Capital Beltway might be less stressful than other parts or by going down the JFK directly. This will also work if you have to go through DC itself because US-50 starts/ends as "New York Ave. NE" in DC.You drive right by the Natl. Arboretum.

I think this can be effective just by keeping those teachers largely anonymous. It doesn't matter if any teachers are armed. The potential for an armed teacher to shoot back may be enough of a deterrent. An armed teacher can be a hero even if they don't take down a gunman. Just shooting back can force a gunman to take cover, and these precious extra few mins can save lives as LEOs arrive.

ill be there, and my brother will almost certainly come with me. gonna spread this word of mouth i might be able to get a few more guys to go MARCH 26 GUN OWNER RALLY UPDATE Social media has been abuzz since our announcement earlier this week of a March 26th gun owner rally in Trenton sponsored by ANJRPC and NRA. In 3 days, over 800 people have said they will attend - and we haven't even announced details or logistics yet! The rally has been timed to coincide with the anticipated date that both houses of the legislature will be in full session and voting on the first wave of anti-gun legislation. The rally will be at the Trenton War Memorial, one block from the State House. ANJRPC and NRA are planning a morning rally followed by a march to the Senate and Assembly chambers, where we will pack the galleries and make sure legislators know we are watching as they vote. Plan on spending the entire day.

What a coincidence. Last night I was watching some WWII history and they outlined how the French resistance stepped up after Germany lost the tank battle at Kursk and it was obvious the tide had turned. The French had a resistance song to go with it: Le Chant Des Partisans I do have a fully stocked cellar if necessary.

I will be off and will attend. We should organize car pools and perhaps some sort of "park and ride" pools where we can meet up near Trenton and ride in together. EDIT: Does anyone here know the people at Cheyenne Mt Outfitters and can reach out to them? That is pretty central to 95 and 195 and has lots of free parking.

I blocked my calendar for the day as soon as I say the first notice. It is looking quite possible that they'll be national press there - not just the hacks at the Star-Ledger. Of all times, with the Dem-controlled NJ gov't, a lunatic Gov in charge, etc., we REALLY need a large crowd to show up at this! It will start making some of the more experienced pols in mixed districts feel VERY nervous and that might be enough to sway votes right there. This is plenty of notice to take a day off - I really hope everyone else on here is blocking their calendars, too! There's really no excuse.

@ The_Matrix I was going to post sort of the same thing but you beat me to it and I’m certain your post is more civil than what I would have said. Murphy and his cronies are paving the way for the complete destruction of NJ. Yesterday’s setback was only one item in NJ's house of cards. Russia may not like us but given enough time a few more progressive leaders like Murphy the entire system will collapse on its own without Russia or China lifting a finger. In the grand scheme of things China is the bigger threat than Russia IMHO.

HOLY NECROPOST! Now that I said it before someone else could, I'm currently doing research on this. It's actually for my younger cat, first she has a weight and a dry skin problem which we haven't been able to rectify with diet. Second we have found a lump on her that needs to be checked out. From what I'm seeing Trupanion is extremely expensive at $78.05/mo for their lowest $200 deductible. I'm finding most of your standard insurance companies around mid $30-$40's a month. Any search for VPI sends me to Nationwide. The final one which Howard mentioned but didn't seem to be talked about was Embrace. They seem to have fully customizable deductions, yearly allowance, and reimbursement percentages. I can actually get it as low as $25/mo. I know it's been almost 4 years since this topic but aside from what I've looked at so far any others to consider? Anyone use Embrace? They are the ones I'm leaning towards now.
