Let's not fight amongst ourselves. Thank you to those who attended the rally yesterday. For those who were unable to attend due to work and family obligations, we'll see you at some of the other events. What IS important is for us, as individuals, to talk to people. To open the eyes of the fence sitters. To turn lambs into lions.

I HAD to go. It was an awesome Saturday. Perfect sunny day. The beginning of Spring kinda day. A day I could have spent with my beautiful wife and daughter at Liberty State Park, having a picnic. But, I couldn't. I had a job to do. I figured many here thought that way too. But I was wrong. There are probably 500 true active members on this forum, with maybe another 500 semi active. And how many show up? 10, maybe 15. You, YOU, did not do your job. You took the easy way. Stayed home. Sat on the couch. Doin nadda. I get some people had to work. Or were sick. Or had plans. You people wonder why the left, Anti 2A crowd, are winning. They show up, in numbers, with a mission. Get woke people.

So next time NJ requires help, as it has in the past, to get power lines back up, trees cleared, etc after major storms I'm sure they'll be refusing such help from pro gun state's. Right?

Yes, I always enjoy putting faces to the names I see on these boards every day. Ray Ray, good to finally meet you. I'm a little afraid to ask how you knew about my Jeep. Forgot to ask the one burning question I have , namely the origin and significance of your avatar. Probably just another cultural reference that escapes me. DeerSlayer, nice chatting with you. It's been awhile. Like many of the people from here, you seem like a really good guy. KrdShrk, nice to see you again as well. I enjoyed the aroma of your stogie. gleninjersey, I admire your 2A activism! Many of us are at some events, some are at many events, but you seem to be at everything! DirtyDigz, saw you but didn't get a chance to say hello. We've met at some event or other, I believe one that involved beer. Malice4you, saw you too, but didn't get a chance to introduce myself. Silence Dogood, were you the guy wearing the Yankee hat talking to M4y? Zeke, nice to finally meet you. You look so different from your screen persona, but then, that's probably true of most of us. W2MC, didn't get to meet you. Sorry. Hope I'm not leaving anyone out. Were the ladies there?

First I heard of today was after the last rally in Trenton on the 26th. Maybe it was mentioned places I did not see it, but that proves it failed to reach the intended audience. I am thankful for everyone who helped organize the event and for the speakers. I am sure there was a huge amount that I do not know about behind the scenes. But today felt like it was thrown together last minute, and the chaos was held at bay *just* long enough for it to pull together ok. I feel like the near total lack of organization was a huge turn off for many people here, which severely hurt the turnout potential for the event. I kept questioning if there would even be anyone there, or if it would only hurt our cause. I believe there was a reporter, he asked if I was AP, but I only saw a few cameras that might have been media. Maybe its a good thing, as this time would say "dozens show up to support gun rights". So yeah, pretty disappointed, though not surprised. The 9 months of planning post above? That. Exactly that. But wait a few months to start cause I don't much wanna go freeze my ass off again like the 26th, and 9 months is January. Not meaning to bash anyone btw, because if I were in charge it woulda been me and maybe 3 other people twiddling our thumbs in Trenton instead of 500.

This is a very common argument by the leftist gun grabbers, but they never elaborate on why those states with less restrictive gun laws don't have the same crime problems. If it is simply a matter of being able to access firearms that is the causal factor behind firearms-related crime; then it stands to reason that places like Vermont (for example) should have the same or greater crime rate than places like inner-city Boston, Providence, or Hartford. The elephant in the room is the demographics, but to even broach the topic of this being a factor is taboo. Strip out the inner-city street crime and we are likely on par with many "gun-free" European nations in terms of murder rate.

Just posted below to our "friend" Sentaor Loretta Weinberg on her FB page. Have sent t friend request to Senator Linda Greenstein to inquire the same with her. I think everyone else should question the logic and pettiness of such legislation. I have question about your recently proposed NJ Sentate bill that "Prohibits State-sponsored travel to states lacking permit to purchase firearms laws" Would this restriction apply to instances of neighboring state, such as PA, being the vicitim of a terror attack that needs assistance from NJ? Such as from the NJ Task Force One Urban Search and Rescue team or other NJ State funded rescue teams? Would we really deny help to other US citizens based on how that State chooses to govern itself? How would NJ citizens in need of assistance feel if "pro" 2nd Amendment States refused to come to the aid of NJ, as they have in the past to help restore power after major storms, or in the even of a future terror attack? New Jersey is in the minortiy when it comes to it's firearm laws in regards to the rest of the nation. Is it really a good idea to put ourselves at a disadvantage if we were to ever require the assistance of neighboring states? To say nothing of the negative goodwill it generates between other State's whose citizens flock to the NJ Shores every summer? I would expect better from our leaders.

This is so easy to solve. Put your money where your mouth is. Plenty here talk a big game, but when push comes to shove "something always comes up".

America is too polarized. There is nothing we are going to do to change any hearts or minds. I'm not sure there is a middle any more. I am 100% in support of the second amendment. If someone shoots up my house, someone shoots up my church, someone shoots up my mall, it will not change my point of view. I want the chance to be able to defend myself. I imagine the other side feels the same. There's no more reasoning.

Not sure you’re point. It’s too easy to point fingers, criticize, or whatever. The reality is people will put in what they can and it takes all types for an effort to be successful. The worst thing any effort can do is turn away people just because they can’t dedicate 100%. Would you rather have 100 people at 10% or 2 at 100?

@gleninjersey I agree with you there. What I was saying is that to an outsider or politician, on the state or national level, it looks like we have tiny numbers who are willing to do something. Tiny numbers means they do not have to worry about us. Tiny numbers are not a threat to them. Turning people needs to be a huge push. Every one of us needs to try to bring new shooters out to introduce them to shooting. Answer their questions honestly. Start them small (don't hand a newbie a 12ga or a .44mag for their first ever shot). Ask them about something they have a lot of knowledge about, then ask how well the media accurately covers that subject, and then explain how the media covers guns. Don't get too much into politics or subjects they might get defensive about and shut down. Make it a fun day. Take pictures for facebook for em. That grin we all got after our first shot-that is how you turn people. We need numbers. There are 300+ million guns in this country. 295 million of em belong to bluelinefish, but that's beside the point. We need to show that we are not some small fringe group, but a large portion of the population, and that our ranks are growing. If the hundreds of us who are active on this forum bring 1 newbie out, and 50 of those people get their FID, and 5 of those people become serious about our rights, that is hundreds more educated people, bigger numbers for gun owners, and more fighters for our rights.

The anti-gunners have been well funded and organized for many many years. They are left leaning political groups that wait for a tragedy like Parkland to pounce on the opposition. A handful of Soros/Bloomfield funded groups along with an empowering media have created an extremely powerful force. They don't in-fight, they cooperate and support each other. They create a single point of contact for the general public, a single web sight, a single twitter, a single email group where people can sign up for free and allow the propaganda machine to disseminate its agenda . Gun rights supporters have none of this. There is no national group or connection point. Every group we have are "paid membership" organizations - that limits the people that will sign up - we need a "sign up for free" place with "donations accepted". We need some wealthy supporters or groups (like Koch Bros) to fund it. But beware because anyone funding it will be brutally attacked as "not caring about the children" and be boycotted by the Soros/Bloomfield media. We need to keep "guns" and 2A out of the name - make it something like "Defend Our Rights" or "Defend Our Constitution". Make it more than just the 2nd - make it about ALL rights. The anti-gunners use emotional phrases like "save the children" and "never again" and then attack the 2A and guns in the details. It often seems like we have fallen into the "divide and conquer" stigma - and we have done it to ourselves. We need a national single point of contact (can't really be the NRA because the "left" has successfully tainted them). It needs to be supported by a person or group that isn't necessarily pro-gun - but pro-constitution. National spokespeople need to change the conversation from GUN rights to ALL rights. Defend ALL the amendments - the 2nd being just one of those rights. We need to redefine the term "common sense" gun laws to mean "better background checks and proper reporting to the authorities" from the current "more gun restrictions". We are letting the anti-gunners define the catch phrases. So are the various pro 2A groups willing to put aside their egos and "need to lead" mentality for the greater good? Are they willing to cede their power for the greater cause? Will the divisions continue as each of these groups fight for the limited number of paying members? Will there be a person or group of people to rise up and pull us together? Will we learn that dividing ourselves will just let the "death by a thousand" cuts continue? I guess that remains to be seen.

Fairly low turnout. Actually, very disappointing turnout. My guess was around 4-500. Met silence dogood at Subway, where I was quite late and still the 2nd forum member there. We walked over to war memorial about 30 minutes before scheduled start, maybe 150-200 people were there, with more trickling in. Some good speakers, though I did not remember most names, there were a few familiar faces from last month. Was nice to meet everyone and put faces to the screen names. If I missed you, I'm sorry. I was in a black shirt with my logo on it, malice hat, blue backpack, and big camera moving around the crowd. (See Ray Ray's pictures above, I managed to get in 2 of them) I need some down time before I work on the pics, will try to have em up by tomorrow. Scorpio, hope all is well and ya feel better quickly. Thanks everyone who made it out.

Ehhh... I'm not sure I agree with that! I hold viewpoints that probably align more with most Dems. There are ALWAYS people in the middle who can be swayed. I actually "sat in" on a meeting a few years ago just to check out a range. I was (truly) feeling trepidation... would there be "gun nuts" there? Imagine my surprise when the guy next to me was a PhD level researcher at a pharma company, the young guy on the other side was a clean-cut looking outdoors enthusiast, etc. - I never saw a more normal group of people in my life. The point is, a lot of people hold negative opinions about firearms until they actually TRY IT OUT and learn more. Whoa! Are you f'n serious? Getting a bit big for your britches, Zeke! Not that I need to explain myself to ANYONE, but I have made monetary donations, I made the last rally (as you know), I just signed up to do a solo volunteer project for CNJFO, I've regularly written and made calls to legislators, and I've got another 2A thing cooking on the side that YOU don't even know about... but now you're going to "call me out" because I happened to not attend this ONE single event? Ummm.... NOPE! Not buying into that... AT ALL! Listen, I know you... and I really do appreciate your spirit and your passion... but trying to insult or lay a guilt trip on anyone the day after an event they didn't attend is just simply the WRONG approach. You may not realize it, but it's highly divisive... and it does NOT encourage attendance at the NEXT event. You need to chill!

You don't want to trash the 1st to protect the 2nd, do you? Of COURSE people are allowed to have and express opinions... as long as it's done without unwarranted, baseless personal attacks, I'm personally fine with it. Life should be an open marketplace of ideas. Besides, who's to say that the busiest person, who can never make an "event", is not the one to contribute the best idea... and then someone else picks it up and runs with it?

Got me pondering. What is the goal of any rally, no matter the cause? Obviously to gain public visibility but to what end? It seems mainly it is to influence politicians, or the public enlarge. Given that goal, are rallies really beneficial for 2A orgs in the state of NJ? They don’t seem to influence our “representatives” in mass. The groupthink at that level and apathy of the voters (unless it is pot or free shit) is too high. Also, given the complicit media, rallies aren’t really helpful at influencing the public. The media simply won’t pick up a neutral or our side of that story to the point of educating viewers. It’s like cold-calling on a public street Maybe smaller, localized rallies would be helpful, but not in Trenton. Target key districts and reps. Go to our their local offices and hold rallyies. Even that I’m not sure would help but is probably better than swimming upstream in Trenton’s sewer. And for getting our message out there, approach groups that may be more neutral and go talk. Offer free range time or something. Boy/Girl Scouts. Fire dept Explorer posts, etc.

There is no ban... YET, (although it doesn't look good). Gov. Gopher has to sign it into law after it passes the Senate, then there is 180 days to comply. If it gets signed into law, hopefully some legal challenges can "redirect" it or delay it.

I think it says more for the organziation and the planning. Not sure if this group has ever planned a Rally before but it seems it was rather hastily put together with little communication and what communication occured seems to have been dirtected to a rather narrow audience. Compare the audience yesterday, a beautiful Saturday afternoon, to the NRA Rally held a few weeks prior, on a cold Monday morning, and I think the importance of proper organization, good communication and having a much larger base is clearly evdient. A couple hundred versus over 2,000. While a larger turnout would have been ideal as the 3% speaker said, "It is better to have a few hundred lions preparing for a fight than thousands of sheep." As long as we keep opening the eyes and converting the sheep our numbers will grow. And it is possible. I used to be a sheep. Mark Cheeseman, who I spoke with briefly after the rally, sounded like he used to be a sheep. Mrs. Peel was probably a sheep not too long ago. I'll take a few dozen Mark Cheesemans and Mrs Peels any day over sheep. Because they will wake other people up, tear off peoples sheep clothing that have kept them asleep in bed for so long and make them lions. Get them active. Coud yesterdays rally have been better. Sure. But I'm still grateful it occured. I'm appreciative of those who organized it. Because I know some good came out of it. Connections were made which will only strengthen our cause in the future.
  34. 1 point
Of course. And their 2a rights are probably pretty secure (or they think so). But if those numbers are true, I don't know if yesterday was a help at all, or may have hurt our cause. If nationwide fewer than 10k showed up in their own states, that does send a message. It says we are unorganized and that we are a tiny percent who will do something for our rights.
  35. 1 point
I don't honestly believe that even 5,000 attending a 2A rally in New Jersey would make any difference at all. Our Democrat legislature is committed. And they don't pass these laws because Cease Fire NJ or Moms Demand Action have many organized speakers. Those groups just give cover and make it seem that what the legislature is doing is 'common sense' and has public approval. Want a rally that would make a difference? After they pass the mag limit law, have 5,000 NJ gun owners mob Trenton waving their old 15-round magazines in the air. And make the police deal with them. That would make a difference. If you could get 5,000 or more NJ gun owners to do that. I'm not betting on it.
  36. 1 point
Actually I did my job. I went to work to make money to feed my family. I would take the time off to attend a rally if it was worth it. However I don't feel like it is. I also am one to believe that the rallies accomplish absolutely nothing. The elected powers have already made up their mind and no rally from either side will change anything. What will change their mind is if we, as a collective group, can get behind ONE candidate and get him/her into a position of power to change the way things are done in Trenton. Then, we get another ONE candidate to do the same thing. We use their tactic of incrementalism to change the way things are done. Additionally we need to educate kids, at the schoolwide level, that guns are fun, increase focus, will get them outside and are to be respected. Teach them the sporting side of shooting. A 22lr "PRS" style competition format would be amazing. However it has to be a lot of schools involved, not just affluent ones. As far as the "billionaire funding" argument, there are plenty of uber-wealthy gun owners that don't put up. It would be nice if one or two would to help fund a grassroots endeavor. Kids and backroom dealings are the keys. Rallies... not so much. Not to me at least. I've said this before, after SH, there was a guy on here that publicly declared that he was going to take a politician's job. Sent him a note and posted up and down this board. He couldn't even collect enough signatures to get himself on the ballot. That's why they feel they can be so bold. They are generally confronted by empty promises and threats from us. Last election, no seats turned. Tell me exactly why they should listen to a bunch of folks in front of the statehouse again?

Yea I saw that class. The class seems a bit expensive for what it is. The entire 1st day is in the class room and you only get to shoot the 2nd day. Im looking at Black Hat and Ghost Firearms training over in Lewistown, PA and its very little "classroom" time. Instead its learning out on the range the entire 2 days. Its also half the cost.

Then we explain it. Over and over and over again until everyone understands. IT'S ALREADY ILLEGAL. It's illegal to to do a face to face transaction if both parties aren't a resident of the state. So someone is breaking the law already. Passing more laws won't make the people who are already criminals stop being criminals. They won't wake up the next day and say, "Oh, NOW I get it. I'm not suppossed to do this!" If the guns themselves were the problem, then the "loose states" would have more firearms violence than the strict states / cities. But they don't. It's not a firearms problem. It's a people problem.

Murphy is the perfect governor for the ill advised and ignorant bumper sticker voter. The man is a disgrace as our highest ranking official for NJ. He continually embarrasses NJ to the entire country. After he finishes with gun issues, it will be about the necessity to raise taxes and, that will be when the zombie NJ voter gets wound up and will know how 2A supporters feel. This is what happens when people don't vote and have their proverbial heads up their ass. According to statistics 1 in 6 eligible voters bothered to vote for governor in NJ 2017. I'm starting to feel the average Jersey citizen is kind of a mindless blank slate. Keep texting, watching sports, facebook, selfies and all the other mindless crap people do and you'll see what NJ will become.
