A carry gun shouldn't have rust, or pitting, or dust bunnies behind the trigger. It should have marks and scratches, wear spots, and areas of thinning finish. When I see gun like that that, I know that the person carries and practices with that gun. They probably are proficient. I have had people I have arrested with guns tell me, after the fact, that they didn’t want to push me because my duty gun grip is beat up and they could tell I practiced. Now the difference is when I am working, my gun is on display in my Duty Holster. Your CCW should be hidden. So my question is - who are you showing your gun to that you are worried about wear marks? If it’s solely for resale value/collector purposes, buy another gun for carry. Otherwise, be proud of the work, time, effort, and money that went into developing those character marks. Each one is a sign of your improved proficiency and your dedication to preparing yourself for the worst day of your life. You need a new mindset, not a new holster.

I bartered away my snow blower as partial payment to the painters I used to spruce up the house before we sold it. If I need a snow blower here in Florida then Climate Change might be real

Don't be such a pansy. No seriously though, don't be such a pansy. The finish of your pistol along with what material your holster is made of will always wear down finish though some combinations may take longer than others. If it's really that big of a deal, I'd suggest buying a separate "holster gun" dedicated to holster work at the range and/or carry. That way you have your safe Queen that gets babied and you also have your holster gun that wears.

As many of you know I live in SC. SC has some pretty strong Castle Doctrine laws. Now Anderson County/Greenville is pretty affluent. But, some developments are outside of town limits and other than the sheriff there is no local PD. Thus, with a 15 minute(just guessing) response time you had better take care of yourself. I'm in a rural area and the previous owner of my home did shoot a burglar that was robbing their shed. They did call the sheriff and were given a response time and told to "take care of it". God love America and South Carolina

My two highlight groupings of the day. Took a bit to zero. Without adjustments it started about 4" left and 4" down. But finally got it around where I want. Windy as hell today. The tighter grouping is just under 1" at 100 yards. Rifle felt great. I'm going to be honest, I was greatly amused by how far ejected brass went flying each time I chambered a new round. Alert from ANJRPC: Bill Now Targets “Covert” Guns, “Undetectable” Guns, And Other Imaginary Threats Whose Manufacture Is Already Illegal in NJ Without a Manufacturer’s License Bill Could Be Enacted Into Law as Soon as Next Week Please Contact Legislators On Monday, September 17th, the New Jersey Assembly Judiciary Committee was ready with last-minute, unpublished amendments to A3129 making sweeping additions to the legislation to ban possession of so-called “covert” guns, “undetectable” non-metal guns, 3D printed guns, and other imaginary threats whose manufacture is already illegal in New Jersey without a NJ firearms manufacturer’s license. The changes also ban first-amendment-protected distribution of certain electronic files for 3D printers without a manufacturer’s license. The amended version of the bill was still unavailable on the NJ legislature website at the time this alert was released. The bill’s original redundant provisions prohibiting the acquisition of parts to manufacture unserialized firearms without a manufacturer’s license remain intact. The amended legislation focuses on imaginary threats and ignores the fact that criminals pay no attention to firearms regulations and acquire their firearms illegally. By continually demonizing the “tool du jour,” instead of severely punishing the criminal misuse of guns, lawmakers reveal an obsession with restricting law-abiding citizens – who are not the problem to begin with. The legislation could be enacted into law as soon as next week. Full voting sessions are scheduled in both the Assembly and the Senate for Thursday, September 27. The Senate, which passed its own unamended version of this legislation in June (S2465), can adopt yesterday’s changes during the voting session. Please contact every state legislator and tell them to vote no on A3129 / S2465. The legislation focuses on imaginary threats instead of severely punishing criminal misuse of firearms. Criminals will ignore it and continue to get their firearms illegally. The only ones affected are law-abiding citizens, who are not the problem to begin with. https://www.anjrpc.org/page/RedundantBillExpanded

Holster wear will occur. No way to avoid it. The bigger problem is the rear of the slide and/or sights rubbing holes in my shirts. That ain’t right.

"Leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again....." John Denver.... Actually, I will be driving for about 13 hours on our trek to leave this beautiful state. ...and no, I will not be returning again.... Tennessee, here we come. I'm posting this so whomever here think we should stay and fight and in countless threads, people telling me I should stay and fight for our rights. I'm posting this because the many that can stay in fight, should and GodSpeed. But a lot of us are leaving, not just because gun laws and NJ politics. Some of us are getting older and preparing for retirement. My wife and I had deep discussion over this and if we stay here, even our pensions and social security will not enable us to keep paying, paying and more paying. Some examples of living in Tennessee: - Our home insurance here is about $1K a year. TN is about $582 for a brand new home. - Taxes: NJ collects all the taxes you can think of. My home here is on a 40x100 ft lot. My taxes here are about $6500 a year. TN is about $1500 TN collects no State Income Tax. Their sales taxes suck a bit, averaging the collective state and county taxes of about 9.25% Lil' high but you save in a long run. Doesn't mean you have to spend thousands a year. Our biggest sales tax hit will be when we get there and buying all new furniture and such. - Car insurance for 2 brand new leased vehicles cost us almost $2G a year. TN full coverage is $1G for both vehicles. - OK, your favorite. Gun laws... I've had over 5 ccw's here in NJ over the years. Some were job related. Some not. You all, or should I start saying ya'll know the trials and tribulations you are confronting every day in NJ. In TN, they honor almost all states CCWs including Utah. Which I have. That will enable me to carry from the Virginias on out to TN till I get my CCW there. There are no fid or pistol permits persay. Just instant NICS checks. Buy a gun, walk out with it. Once you get your TN ccw which I believe does not take long, you are good to go. Many ranges and gun stores, 2 of which are in the same town. But I will make a day trip to Kentucky Gun which I have done business with over the years. They are only 6% sales tax and are a gun friendly state. - We can live anywhere as long as we get hi-speed internet. My wife is going to be allowed to work from home for the rest of her time employed as long as she has hi-speed internet so she can VPN in to her main office in Oregon. My only criteria is at least an acre and a garage that will be my man cave. I would really like being Bob Lee Swagger and go off grid but you don't get many amenities that way, including a Triple Play Package because if you want land, you are stuck with just a Satellite Dish and that won't cut it. So when we officially retire, we very well may go off the grid a bit. So no backyard shooting till then. - Friends and family. My parents have passed long ago and my siblings are no longer in my eye site. They fall into the turnip category due to jealousy. I've worked hard all my life. If you choose not to, that's on you... My best friend passed away and all others have done what we are doing now. Getting out of this hell hole. All my LEO comrades moved to FL, AZ and other areas and opened up 7-11s.... screw dat! I'd open donut shops! lmao.... So, guess I'll have to make new friends and enjoy what lil time my wife has with her only parent, her dad which will be a mere 14 mile drive. So please, if you see people in which you feel are running from this state because of gun laws, it may not just be about that. I'm tired of fighting for my NJ rights. I did my time here in many facets of life, Civil Defense, Rescue Squads, LEO, CG and many other things.... I don't need to do that, as I have pushed for over 60 years. So that being said, I leave this beautiful state with tears in my eyes. I've lived in my town my whole life. I say 'beautiful state' because it is. It just happens to be ran by criminal scum politicians. The landscape can be city all the way through country living. If you have toured this state as much as I have, there are many beautiful places. By the end of this week, I should be underway and to never look back! So fair well to the friends I have made here, the business relationships and so on. I'd like to think I been helpful over the years and made some sort of difference. For the people who hate or despise me, no harm, no foul. If that is your nature in general, so be it. I won't say I hate you because I am not that kind of person. But all I can suggest is look outside the box. Its not and never will be all about you. I will try to check in from time to time, but we will be knee deep in trying to settle in. Good Luck! Ya'll will need it!

@deerpark My attitude is why just go with one style or approach? Try a number of holsters, go with what you like and works the best for you. You may even want to alternate them like one does with summer vs. winter clothing. Last year, I ordered two custom-made holsters, one inside the waist band (IWB) and one outside the waistband (OWB), from Mitch Rosen Extraordinary Gunleather. From my research on holster manufacturers, I discovered that most only make holsters for the most common handguns and use dummy molds of those handguns to form their holster leather or other material. While I had originally wanted to get a holster for my HK P30L, since it is the lightest of my full size handguns, nobody had the molds for that specific handgun, where its barrel is one half inch longer than the standard HK P30. I would have to send my P30L to the holster maker for them to use as a guide, something that I was reluctant to do. So, I decided to make my Sig Sauer P226 MK25, also in 9mm, my CCW handgun, for the times where I want to CCW and can do so legally. I find that I am more accurate with a heavier handgun and it is a common model that has been around for a while and therefore the holster makers all have holsters to accommodate it. Once I received both holsters, I found the fit of the handgun inside each to be appropriately snug, but not difficult to draw from. I really do like the look, work-of-art craftsmanship and wonderful leather aroma of the Mitch Rosen holsters. As @GRIZ said in his post, all holsters will rub the gun's finish in the key contact areas, resulting in a subtle polishing effect, but the leather seems to be the most forgiving in that regard, compared to the much less expensive Kydex holster I had originally for this handgun. I also purchased and have worn a 1 1/2" inch wide custom leather gun belt made by Mitch Rosen. It is hand-crafted from very fine strapping cowhide leather and is cut on a curve, which provides a better more comfortable fit. I also opted for the tapered ends which contributes to a more normal belt look in front and therefore does not look like a gun belt. It is harness-stitched around the perimeter and finished like a fine dress belt and has a very pronounced and wonderfully intoxicating rich leather aroma, that costs $140. Of course, the Mitch Rosen holsters match the color and finish of the belt and looks really good IMHO. Here are links to what I purchased: Mitch Rosen Extraordinary Gunleather Uncle Sal’s Decision (USD) II (IWB) Holster (Light Brown) http://mitchrosen.com/products/holsters/inside-waistband-holsters/ Mitch Rosen Extraordinary Gunleather Premier (PREM) with Full Detailing (On the Belt) (Light Brown) http://mitchrosen.com/products/holsters/belt-holsters/ Mitch Rosen Extraordinary Gunleather 1 ½ inch width strapping leather with tapered ends (Light Brown) http://mitchrosen.com/products/belts/ AVB-AMG

I used to pick up 9mm from Dick's when it was on sale. Haven't set foot inside since the CEO went off the rails. Feel bad for the employees, but could care less if Dick's went belly up. Too bad, because the younger guy at my local store was ok.

Non-members are welcome to come & shoot for $20! I can PM you directions if yer interested in checking us out. Both Central Jersey in Jackson & OBRPC hold competitions in various shooting disciplines. Your other property could be swamp land in the Meadowlands, the same laws applies. No structure need to be there. No locked-box containing the firearm need be there to start your patrol while ARMED. No renter need be present, either to live there or operate a bidness. Please re-read what I wrote previously so you understand the basis of how to apply common sense instead of heli-casting on a rope ladder to patrol your swamp land You're allowed to patrol a vacant swamp. Most folks would drive there. Following the regular transportation rules that GRIZ just outlined. Don't overthink this.

reviews and money backing it doesn't matter, the gun community is full of retards who will spend $10/oz of whatever new flavor of lube etc is out there. Remember, you've got buys buying $60 safeties, enough said on that. glad your guy recommended it and you feel that is enough but having built, repaired, shot, etc etc enough to see that most lubes are the same and mobil 1 is really all anyone needs. For any lube to have a higher flash point on heat and lower stop point on cold the cost benefit just isn't there. No one here is shooting their weapon in -50 degrees too often and doubt I'll see anyone at +600f. 10w will stay on a standard bolt well past 1k rounds. I understand your point on it being a .45 AR but the .45 has far less pressure than what the standard AR has and we don't see any issues with the 9mm AR like what you were describing. Think the set up is off or the locking is off. LOTS of things can contribute to symptoms of over gassing that said, a buddy of mine used cherry balmz, he is one of those guys that has to buy everything new because he's well uhhh, naive. A good lube, a well set up firearm, a proper cleaning and inspection schedule is all anyone needs really

Congrats on the home! Also moved to Florida, but I have a different cost experience as I am in a more Florida native county, the beaches are free and about 10 minutes away, drive right on. My property taxes dropped $11,000 per year, both were 2400sqft, but I now have my own pool and spa. Insurance costs home/auto are the same, it’s a new home built to tough standards. Food, clothing, shopping is the same, except the people are waaayyy nicer. Going to the range is still weird, I just toss everything on the car seat. Only regret is I should have left sooner.

when I left I had a lot of people tell me things like "oh if everyone leaves no one will be left to fight blah blah blah"... "what happens when there is nowhere left to run to.. " "PA will end up just like NJ" I really like a LOT of the people on this site.. some really good people.. but your all nuts.. all of those statements are true.. but in a very honest way.. I can't worry about that.. because everything that has happened to me since I left has been a positive.. I pay a lot less.. I make more.. I get more for my money.. and guns.. staying living in a place that so opposes every way that I feel was completely impossible.. to be honest.. I left mostly over guns.. everything else was just a bonus.. I was SO tired of this gun being evil because it has a flash hider.. or this magazine being banned because it had one too many rounds.. its RIDICULOUS.. so yeah.. I "ran away" and I don't regret it for one second..

S&W 686+ 3" 3/5/7. My favorite handgun and the last one I would ever sell if it came to me selling stuff. I have loaded some very hot loads for it and it handled them flawlessly. I have a 2" 9mm Ruger SP101 which I like as well. A 3" Ruger GP100 would rate high on my list as well if I was buying handguns anymore.

Good for them. The manufacturers are hurting, with the post-election downturn in sales. This way, the manufacturers of all those guns sold to Dicks get to make and sell them a second time. The same number of guns end up with the happy sportsmen, but the sales figures double for the manufacturers. It's a win-win, even though Dicks management was too stupid to realize it.
