If you come here to purchase a gun, and bring your range bag - I promise not to ask you what is in the bag......... Lol

Maybe it's because I am old school. Maybe it's because I am an adult and I don't need a babysitter. Maybe it's because I am used to walking into the range, paying, and then going to shoot. No ROs watching my every move. No bag checks. No magazine inspections. No safety videos. No ID checks. No liability signitures. No ammunition searches. Remember those days @GRIZ! @Old School! @Smokin .50! And guess what gentlemen, nobody got shot. Nobody got hurt. Nobody bothered nobody. Now, we treat everyone like kids.

Hurricane Sandy was an eye-opener for many people in New Jersey and other areas. If they had forgotten the lessons learned from that storm then there is no excuse. As a husband and a father, it is my responsibility to plan for the worst and hope for the best.

I tried getting an invite to bring our "wares" to Range 129 for Black Friday. Called them several days prior. Was told that the "owners would need to have a meeting to decide if I could come & represent CNJFO" & that the guy I spoke to (William Wolfson) would call me back the next day with an answer. I'm still WAITING! Good thing I went to Reloaderz on Black Friday & spent 8 1/2 hours THERE in Wayne, NJ! Meanwhile, I've posted picture stories of Range 129 all thru the construction phase on the CNJFO Facebook page & even reminded them of that via a speaker-phone conference call several days prior to their grand opening. Also, Wolfson has liked our page & lurked for a while, so it's not like he doesn't know what makes us "tick"... So those of you that were there ( @Darrenf ) on Black Friday, was there a tiny piece of space to set-up a small folding table with our wares? Were there any other groups there? One of our Trustees was going to come-up from Wildwood Crest to man our table for the day... We TRY to do things is So. Jersey but somehow the Fudds ruin it??? Color me NOT HAPPY! Here's our table at SC Arms & Ammo of Spotswood, NJ on last Sunday:

Let me inspect your Bag and guns. G F Y

So, I went there yesterday and it is a nice range. The shelves are still kind of bare, but I didn’t go there to go shopping. One think that left a sour taste in my mouth was the range bag “inspection”. They uncased all my guns and then opened the ammo boxes. One guy watching as they inspected my Grand Power K100 asked “are those 10 round mags?” I didn’t answer because it’s none of his damn business. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

I'm not going to comment on whether or not all of my firearms were legal during my NJ residency. But if I did have some guns that had features that were on some sort of list, I sure as hell wasn't stupid enough to bring that gun to a public range.

I wasn't there on Black Friday Rosey, so I can't comment on what occurred that day. i will say that I went back today, and it couldn't have gone much worse. When they went to inspect everything this time, i took all the gun cases and ammo out of my range bag, and also asked to speak with the owner. Someone ran and got him, and I asked him if this is going to happen every time, even for regulars. is there some sort of system they have in place to make this less of a hassle in the future? His response was that this was a corporate decision to insure my safety. I replied that i agree safety is paramount, but no other range I have ever been to has done anything even close to this and that they have perfect safety records. I was again told it was a corporate decision (I thought you were the owner). It was obvious I would get no where, so I just went to shoot. When I was finished shooting I came back out into the staging area and as I did that the owner was walking back in. I told him "look, I'm not trying to be an asshole, but you have to understand that here in NJ us gunowners are treated as second class citizens, and ranges are looked at as a sort of a refuge. We don't expect to have to pay a private individual who then shows less trust in us than even the state does. He replied that because NJ is so messed up, this procedure can help when new people come in to see how rigid everything is, and develop their trust in the range. I said I agree it could be helpful for newbies, but you have to understand that seasoned shooters and 2A advocates, the people likely to bring the newbies into your range see this as invasive at the least. I also told him that when I stopped in the first time while my guns were being inspected, another employee asked "Is that a 10 round magazine?". I told the owner, so now you guys are law enforcement too? That's when another employee chimed in with "The reason I asked that question is to educate people who might not know the law" I told him, first it wasn't you that asked the question and if that's the case then phrasing is important. He replied "well I deal in absolutes". ( I almost laughed out loud that someone would say something so stupid, my thought was that this guy must love the Star Wars Prequels, LMAO) I again said that education is admirable but phrasing is important. Asking someone if that is a 10 round mag isn't helpful, and I was about to tell him a better way to phrase the question but he wasn't interested. He cut me off to repeat that he deals in absolutes. LOL I said, look, I am trying to help you here by telling you what your consumer would hope to see. i forgot what he said but he cut me off again. I said this is so disappointing, I've been looking forward to this range opening for almost 2 years, been telling everyone about it, let my membership at Shooters lapse, and this is the treatment they dispense. You have a customer who is trying to tell you what they would like to see but you aren't listening. He interjected that he is listening to which I cut him off and raised my voice a bit now and said, yes, you're listening, that's why you keep cutting me off. Well done. At this point I was exiting the room and told the owner, that I hope they have a meeting to get this righted soon. I'm not optimistic, which is sad, because it's a beautiful local facility, and I'd love to see it thrive, but if this is how they plan on treating customers, they won't be in business long.

I have friends that have carbines & 30 round mags for them. Most of these friends fought for our country in Korea & 'Nam and they have a lll% mindset of just not giving a F^&K about NJ gun laws anymore. Molon Labe

I damn well remember those days! I remember my High School Graphic Arts Teacher bringing US NAVY .38 Spl. TRACER ammo from his Carrier to the school & giving it to me during class and telling me to "go put it in yer locker & make sure to take it home today". I also remember "LIGHTIN'-UP" Rays range with those TRACERS & how much fun it was! Hell the R-O called a CEASE-FIRE & ran over to me to check it out. Told me it's NOT allowed, then asked if HE could try some, lol! Yeah, I'm THAT old......

This was my thinking as well. Hence, all my >10 round magazines are now all vacationing in Pa. As a matter of principle, I am not modifying, destroying, turning in, .... anything ever. The more of my property they force me to exile, the greater my resentment, and in turn, desire to purchase a home elsewhere.

You vs the trooper in court, good luck with that. Cheapest way out, if your driving record is clean, see the prosecutor before court and ask to plead guilty to unsafe operation of motor vehicle. NO points, no insurance surcharge, just $335 out of pocket and keep your record clean for next two years. NJ's greatest MV scam. Otherwise see what the points will cost you on insurance and lawyer's fees. Moral of the story, don't ride the left lane, and don't pass cops.

Anyone can write anything they want on the form, so I wouldn't expect them to trust that. The application actually does ask how often you shoot and to self assess your ability. My wife was very excited about trying to start a SAW chapter there, so I hope they get this worked out. Good luck Rosey!
  15. 2 points
To be fair they know nothing of my ability yet, and I wouldn't say I have any great ability anyway. But I do follow the rules and the law and they should have some system in place for verified range goers so that we can avoid this hassle. i would be at that range twice a week easily, I have literally 30+ new shooters anxious to get out there with me and be on their way to gun ownership, but at the moment i cannot recommend this range at all. I'm hoping they engage us here, and even if they are unable to change this policy, at least explain it in a better way than "it's for your safety".

"For your safety". Where have I heard that before? Oh yeah, that's right, anti-gun Democratic talking points. Cudos to Range 129.

I suspect the rallying cry to eliminate lead began with; " if it can save one duck" or "if it can save one condor." Seems to have a familiar ring to it. I just scratch my head at believing that some 12 million hunters annually litter the landscape with so much shot up, lead-filled game carcasses that "between 10 million and 20 million animals, including eagles, hawks, bears, vultures, ravens and coyotes, die each year not from being hunted, but from lead poisoning, according to the Humane Society." Bullet construction has changed significantly over the last few decades, and I roll my own so I can tailor load/velocity of a particular bullet to find the sweet spot for accuracy, so I'm not too put out by this. Lead is still the best for small game and the alternatives are simply inferior or cost prohibitive. BTW - How many birds are clipped by wind turbines each year?

I get what you are saying and there is merit here however, at CJ, I've never been asked and we don't ask other people (at least my circle doesn't). I will say this, last summer I was there during the week and and a nice older man was shooting his m1 he had in ww2/korea and he was full auto. I went over, thanked him for his service, spoke a bit and admired his firearm. I never made a comment on legality, he brought it up and politely said along these lines, 'this kept me safe from the japs and the chinese and I'll be dead before I give it up'...... was ready to buy the man dinner after that!

I have an issue with ranges policing mags. Same as I would have an issue if they started inspecting the muzzle device and stock of my AR.

Not exactly that. But mag policing and bogus FID requirements. I've had one of the owners sons of Bullet Hole in Belleville ask me if my 30rd p mags were blocked to 15rds. But told me if I was on the job it would be fine. Never stepped foot in that place again. And here is a thread I started about a range wanting to confiscate your guns because you "might" have become a prohibited person, essentially doing the work of the State Police. I find it harder and harder to support any local NJ gun businesses.

New range opening this month (Hopefully). Absecon, NJ. Opening was drastically delayed, I'm guessing probably permit stuff but I don't really know. Two indoor ranges. A 25 yard pistol/rimfire range and a 100 yard rifle range. Target system will be digital so you can set the exact distance you want. Decent hours. 9am-9pm Mon-Sat and 9am-6pm Sun. Huge show room. I can't wait! Anyone else planning on checking it out once it opens?

For anyone NOT in NJ or has the ability to ship to outside NJ. This is a REALLY good deal on AMMO + MAGS. Perhaps ship to an FFL? One day only, expiring tomorrow at Noon. $159.99 for 10 PMAGS and 300 rounds, or 20 boxes of 223. Add in $20 MIR. If you value PMAGS at $10 each, this means ammo is around $2.66 per box AR. Let me know if you need an out of state address, am across the border. =) Link To Deal For those in NJ, I am inquiring with PSA about doing a deal like this with 10 round mags.

Points taken. "Great ability" isn't needed, just being AWARE of what's going on around you & making sure all yer rounds miss the walls, floors & ceiling is all that's really needed . A question on a member application asking what ranges you've shot at, which guns do you shoot most often & how long you've been shooting would be sufficient to warrant the de-Nazification I would think? It's not rocket science after-all! I'm going to call them tomorrow to see if they've figured-out WHEN it would be convenient for them to have me (US). Thanks again Darren! Rosey

It’s called a bottle bush. My wife loves it. I used the Dremel Cut Off wheel: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Dremel-1-4-in-Cut-Off-Wheels-for-Metal-Thin-Wood-and-Plastic-36-Pack-409/203362590 Probably something better out there, but I had them, and they worked. I’ve probably done 8 carbines like this so far between my own and those of friends. It is super easy.

Also don't forget it was People Like Us that got HR 38 passed through the house. Not the lazy s*** talkers that don't do a f****** thing except complain about everything on this f****** forum.

Well here it is, all the work we did to get HR 38 through the house will probably be a waste of time if you don't do your CIVIC DUTY NOW. Here's a really good video that makes it pretty simple. Don't forget the bill number now is S446. Mass text and call everyone you know, tell them to do it, tell them to pass the word. If you don't want to do this little bit of work your serious a piece of shit.

I just boxed up all my evil "high capacity" magazines over the weekend, to send them out to PA, until I can get them to a safe haven out of NJ. The whole time I was packaging them, I kept thinking how much safer I was making our beloved state. Still waiting for all the conforming mags I ordered from Gun Mag Warehouse to arrive.

Absolutely true, and one of the biggest points in deciding what type of system to get. What I believe is the major point is on the rare occasion someone gets their house broken in or robbed, video evidence will be the biggest help in catching the crooks, and the easier it is to save, retrieve and give the evidence to the LEOs, the better chance the dudes get caught and you get your stuff back. Most cops, when they see the video, will already know who the bad actors are in town, which will help them make a quick recover. While that maybe be true, the systems can be use for more than just catching bad guys. If I'm in the house, I can watch what the rugrats are doing in the backyard and see what's going on around my pool. I use the live video to watch my pool robot. Occasionally it gets hung up and stops vacumming. I can see the pool on video when sitting at my desk and know if I have to go out there and free it. Other times I can check to see what trouble the dog is getting into in the back yard without having to go out there. That's another good use, to see if the Amazon package was dropped off on the porch or the next case of ammo came via UPS. Wait, you just gave me a great idea.... let me get to my workshop.... STAT !!
  47. 1 point
I guess it all depends on where you live and what you are trying to accomplish. If I lived in da Hood, I would have a very expensive hard wired system with remote storage - perhaps tie a machine gun into it Where I am in a virtually crime free area behind a security gate that is much less of a concern. I am more interested in seeing when UPS dropped off a package or if anyone came looking for me while I was not home. Just having these wireless things visible is a deterrent.
