Well, something needs to be done to break this stalemate! And the Dems will NEVER agree to more physical barriers, because they know they're PERMANENT (unlike drones, more guards, and other temporary measures that could easily be rolled back by a Democratic POTUS.) So if they're not going to budge, it's not fair to hold Federal employees hostage in this continuing "peeing contest" between the White House and the Dems. I don't think like the idea of declaring a national emergency, but I don't see any better options for him. So, I sort of hope it's true. I've become a believer that more physical barrier MUST be part of our layered approach to border security. There are just too many unvetted people strolling across our border. It's obscene.

What makes you think any lawmaker under the 2nd circuit cares one iota about federal laws?

Dear god, let go of the video games. You do realize that people who play video games these days is basically.. Everyone. If it caused dangerous aberrant behavior, the crime rate would be shooting through the roof, not declining. One of the key issues is mental health, and our health care system in the US. Back in the 80s, your tax dollars funded a significant amount of charity care for metal illness. Today that's almost nonexistent. Back then if you wound up in court for doing questionable shit, it was a lot easier to remand you for observation and treatment than it is today. The net result is problem people get flagged as problematic much, much later if at all.

That's the rub, if it was truly a leading factor or even one that was heavily contributing we would have an enormous violence epidemic as opposed to a historical downward trend. It's likely the opposite is true, violent people buy violent games (just as other people buy violent games for other reasons).

If it were a risk factor that could rise above statistical noise, then we would have a really serious violence problem, since up to 97% are exposed. GMAFB.

Unfortunately the way things are happening today I see states blatantly defining fed law as they already are in so many cases. I don’t, for the life of me, understand how they get away with it but they are. Now, you can sit and scream it’s your right or rights all day but you’d be in the same boat of spending all your kids college money and a 2nd mortgage trying to defend them in this life. I believe beyond good decisions from the SCOTUS enforcements of these rulings must follow. When Gav. Wallace blocked the school entrance from a black girl Robert Kennedy sent US Marshals to move or arrest him. Today the feds aren’t even bringing suit to the states defying them. Too much is cared about votes and not enough about the voter. If it gets decided we can carry in our glove compartments and stop at the mall and Murphy and his troops roll over and say “sure” I’ll buy the first round.

first and formost, check fluid level and condition. in all honesty though, it sounds like the tranny is shitting the brick though. 3400 with 3 year warranty sounds like they may be quoting you a jasper or atk reman tranny. if that's the case, while it seems high, it's not really that bad of a price. if they're quoting you a rebuild of yours, then that's about 1100 too high. rebuilding your tranny shouldn't cost any more than about 2100 to 2400. i deal with motortrans down here in marlton on rt73. i've got a car i farmed over to them that i gotta check on. i'll see if he's got any recommendations up that way for ya.

Report post Stole this off another site thought it was pretty good The Harley and Vaseline* > Joe wanted to buy a motorcycle. He doesn't have much luck, until one day, he comes across a Harley with a > 'for sale' sign on it. The bike looks better than a new one, although it is 10 years old. It's shiny and in mint condition. He buys it and asks the seller how he > kept it in such great condition for 10 years. 'Well, it's quite simple,' says the seller, 'whenever the bike is outside > and it's gonna rain, I rub Vaseline on the chrome. It protects it from the rain, and he hands Joe a jar of Vaseline. That night, his girlfriend, Sandra, invites him over to meet her parents. Naturally, they take the bike there. Just before they enter the house, Sandra stops him and says, 'I have to > tell you something about my family. When we eat dinner, we don't talk. In > fact, the FIRST person who says anything during dinner has to do the > dishes.' 'No problem,' he says.. And in they go. Joe is shocked. Right in the middle of the living room is a huge stack of > dirty dishes. In the kitchen is another huge stack of dishes. Piled up on > the stairs, in the corridor, everywhere he looks. Dirty dishes. They sit down to dinner, and sure enough, no one says a word. As dinner progresses, Joe decides to take advantage of the situation. He > leans over and kisses Sandra. No one says a word. > He reaches over and fondles her breasts. Nobody says a word. > So he stands up, grabs her, rips her clothes off, throws her on the table > and screws her, right there in front of her parents. His girlfriend is a little flustered, her Dad is obviously livid and her > mom horrified when he sits back down, but no one says a word. So.....He looks at her mom. She's got a great body too. Joe grabs mom, > bends her over the table, pulls down her panties, and screws her every > which way but loose right there on the dinner table.. She has a big > orgasm, & Joe sits down. His girlfriend is furious, her dad is boiling, & > Mom is beaming from ear to ear. But still....Total silence. All of a sudden there is a loud clap of thunder, and it starts to rain. Joe > remembers his bike, so he pulls the jar of Vaseline from his pocket.... Suddenly the father shouted.... I'll do the fuckin' dishes!!

Well, you were bringing up a specific example in reference to this guy's violence. I disagree with the studies because a lot of them use statistics abhorrently. My reading comprehension is actually quite good. And yes, I see you said "part of the problem" but the only piece of information you go on is the video game angle.

It’s a hard thing for people to come to terms with. You cannot rationalize, explain, understand evil. It will always be there. Even the mental health avenues or “ red flag laws” are not a panacea. The recurring mistake we make, more controls will stop this. But that’s been proven false every time. Only thing that seems to work with consistency, good guys stop bad guys.

Is it possible that Dan lived there years ago before the previous owner. Go look him up on the Internet, you'll find out if he lived in that area ever before. I've been recently receiving some medical bills for a guy that owned my house two owners ago, and I've been here 5 years, and that guy is dead.
  22. 1 point
You aren't being scammed, they are more than likely. One way for things like that to happen, and it's usually medical bills and similar, is for someone old to either owe someone or for the company to be making claims against medicaid. Things approaching charity care where they have to show proof of billing attempt. Non legit is someone wants services and doesn't want collections agents to know where they are so they are using your address. Don't feel bad, they are using someone else's phone number too and they are getting it worse. I've had both happen to me. The phone thing is a giant pain in the ass. Every place will call and harass you. then it will turn into collections agents who won't believe that you aren't them. You will however learn how shockingly stupid and lazy people are. My favorite was being called about information on a mortgage application for person X. My answer was, this isn't X, they gave you a bogus number, they are lying to you and I currently get collections agent calls for them for at least four other debts. You would be an idiot to lend them money. Six months later the same mortgage company is calling me back asking why X hasn't paid any of their bills. I'm like. because you are morons and didn't listen to me when I told you they were trying to rip you off. Super fun. I did at some point have someone put my mail on hold at the post office, but no idea who. Nothing ever came that was new and interesting. However, I would recommend that you set up informed delivery with USPS in case someone is trying to use your address for something other than a black hole for bill collectors.

So the more data you can correlate the more solid your argument? What’s your opinion on global warming?
  25. 1 point
That's how they say, we don't really know but there's a pretty big correlation when you put a lot of them together. So singling out a single risk factor (video games) is at least a poor representation of the results. I understand the statement quite well.

The "studies" that posit risk factors are frankly a bunch of people that use statistics poorly and explain them poorly. Correlation =/= causation which is the fallacy we run into all the time with research studies and reporting. There is a reason every few years a new report comes out telling us why so many people are fat. They do a study and see that a lot of fat people eat meat, so they say well meat must make people fat. Or people that have heart attacks also have high cholesterol. Well, high cholesterol must cause heart attacks. The problem is they are taking the correlation of meat and fat people and saying it's causation. In turn, do people that are violent play violent video games? Probably, but that doesn't mean the games cause violence. It's just a correlation - and frankly one that likely happens in the reverse order. Violent people seek out violent video games. In order to get a true causation (which actually almost never happens in the real world) you would have to look at a double blind before and after test using the same population. Are they as/more/less violent after playing video games than before? Since this test is nearly impossible in the real world, we really cannot know. A good explanatory anecdote is rain and umbrellas. Many people carry umbrellas before it rains. If you were an outside observer you may see everyone carrying an umbrella, seeing it rain and believe that people carrying umbrellas causes it to rain. Statistically you could even show it. But in reality, we know that people carry an umbrella in anticipation of rain.

The trans sounds roached to me. Sell it as is and use the money towards something else. Some mechanic type will buy it, put a junkyard tranny in it and sell it off to someone else or yank the engine and junk it. Look at it this way, you end up putting at least 2k into the vehicle and what's it worth $1200.00 once fixed? Right now, with a shitty trans, it's worth probably $600 to someone looking for an engine or interior or to fix it.
  31. 1 point
by that standard the guy that breaks into your or my house isn't really to blame, but rather his environment is.
  32. 1 point
If you’re mechanicaly inclined I’d change the trans fluid first and see if it improves. As far a shop, I’ve heard very good things about Fisher transmission in Pine Brook. Not exactly local to you, but if you’re looking at a place in Newark this is no further. https://www.fisherautotrans.com/

This is coming from CNN, so who knows. Did they get a leak from inside. I guess we'll find out shortly. Maybe Trump has had enough with dealing with the little children known as the Democrat party. Washington (CNN)The White House is preparing a draft proclamation for President Donald Trump to declare a national emergency along the southern border and has identified more than $7 billion in potential funds for his signature border wall should he go that route, according to internal documents reviewed by CNN . According to options being considered, the administration could pull: $681 million from Treasury forfeiture funds, $3.6 billion in military construction, $3 billion in Pentagon civil works funds, and $200 million in Department of Homeland Security funds, the official said. As lawmakers discussed a short-term measure to fund the government Thursday, Trump again raised the prospect of other ways to fund a border wall without congressional approval. "I have other alternatives if I have to and I'll use those alternatives if I have to," he told reporters. "A lot of people who wants this to happen. The military wants this to happen. This is a virtual invasion of our country," Trump said. The Defense Department referred a request for comment from CNN to the White House. https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/24/politics/trump-border-wall-emergency-draft/index.html

You definitely sure it is the transmission? I had a 2002 Impala, which did do some odd stuff with shifting... very similar to what you described. Catalytic converter went. Would get worse as the converter heated up, and then it just started doing it constantly. Was a recall on the converter, from 2000 to about 2002. Arguing with the dealer about it resulted in the intake manifold melting (main difference between the Series II and III... your’s isn’t plastic) and the EGR valve going.

And once again a judge will knock this down. Seeme to me its the un-elected judges running this country not the will of the people thru their elected officials. I know the 3 branches of govt are there to enable checks and balances but it seems the judicical elite get to do all the checking on the excecutive branch, who does the checking on the judicial branch???
  42. 1 point
Right. The actual law doesn't apply any more. All you need is one activist judge to rule on his or her feelings instead of considering the law. I'm not so bothered by the stalemate. I suspect that most of us have, at least once in our lives, found ourselves without a job. I've been there before. It's an unfortunate part of life. Find another as quickly as you can, live on your savings in the mean time. And most importantly, save for this rainy day because it's coming eventually. And...I think we could permanently cut 15% of the federal work force, never feel the impact, and put those 15% into actual productive jobs in the private sector. We would all be better off.

Wait a minute ... How does a guy that was in a psychiatric hospital in 2013 legally purchase a gun??
  45. 1 point
It sounds like Ms. Gerlach did do something, but nothing happened. "she tried warning people in the past, but no one believed her." But it does not sound like Xaver did anything that would have prohibited him from purchasing. Maybe a "Red Flag" law would have stopped him? But those laws are problematic also from a due process perspective.

Compliant rifles are only offered in 18”... not saying FFLs don’t buy standard 16” guns and pin (Steve does it, and how I got mine). Was kind of trying to allow people stuck here to have an option for going shorter and still be “NJ legal.” Figure it is a better offer for the community than an epic destruction of 15 round Glock magazines. Either way... still want to gouge my eyes out on the mobile site.
