If the brake was moving, you would be able to feel it. Id be more curious about the concentricity of the brake which can be a little tricky on AK's.

Are you looking for say like a Taser Pulse for her? Or are you looking for one of the cheaper, contact-only stun guns? Tasers do come with multiple cartridges, so you can practice. They also have Practice Cartridges. They're not cheap, but cheaper than standard taser cartridges. http://www.actionstunguns.com/taserc2trainingcartridges.html I would say practice against a dummy or paper target at home first. It comes with a conductive paper target for testing/training. The pulse has a laser built in so aiming should not be hard. The main things to practice will be proper draw, confirming the distance that the taser can shoot, and making sure she doesn't pull the shot with a bad trigger pull. The cartridges have a 15 foot range, so it won't be hard to miss at that range but in a panic situation it may cause one... The Pulse comes with a "sock" thingy that can make it a bit tough to pull into ready state. You can get other holsters - but practice drawing and disabling the safety. If you take the cartridge out, it will still spark, so you can practice trigger pull while the laser is on to ensure it stays on target. You can engage the safety again to turn off the contact shocking to save battery. Practice detaching the cartridge so it can be used as a contact taser instead of ranged as well. I'm sure there are formalized classes for this - I know Gun for Hire has a Civilian Taser course. https://gunforhire.com/academy/civilian-taser-gun-stun-gun-course/

I'm concerned for your wife. She should be rattled. Did she also file a police report? Doesn't NJ have a stalking law? If it were me, I would want "real police" to at least know it's going on, not just the building security team. After all, the police might have more insight on his background (possible rap sheet?). Personally?... I like having all the facts at my disposal. And, I wouldn't wait to pull in HR either.. she should pull them in NOW. Her superiors may only be concerned with their own functional area - and if there's not a lot of females there, she might be the only one complaining. HR will be in a better position to deal with the problem systemically throughout DEP (if they choose to, that is). HR does tend to be more litigation-savvy than other functions - they tend to have a lot of females, too - so they may be helpful. It may also help to talk to other co-workers and get a concerned GROUP together, so she's not the lone voice - and request a meeting with HR, security and a Trenton PD representative. Aside from security being onsite earlier, she should have additional suggestions (or alternatives): Trenton PD security briefing for employees? on-site self-defense classes? a paid van to pick up employees from the designated lots from, say, 5:30 a.m. - 7 a.m.? You always get better results when you walk in with a list of well thought out options. It sounds like they just need better security in general. So, YES, get the taser and training, but in the meantime, she's being much too polite about this IMO. A mentally ill street person has possibly fixated on her. That's a very unpredictable, risk-laden situation - she should be opening all channels of communication immediately. And please ignore all those bullshit studies that said mentally ill people are NOT more violent than you and I. Those have been thoroughly debunked in recent years (most of them studied mentally ill people WHILE ON THEIR MEDS... but, when the seriously mentally ill go off their meds like when they're homeless, their disorganized, delusional thinking, and reduced impulse control all lead to a HIGHER rate of crime, not lower). If she can't get a new formal practice instituted there, she should change her arrival time to 7:15 so she's at least approaching when security is there, or buddy up with a few co-workers to meet at a designated spot in the parking lot and walk those 2 blocks together! GOOD LUCK! Let us know what happens...!

The New Jersey Revised Statutes define “shotgun” in a manner more similar to the NFA. Section 2C:39-1n defines “shotgun” in the following manner: [JD1] "Shotgun" means any firearm designed to be fired from the shoulder and using the energy of the explosive in a fixed shotgun shell to fire through a smooth bore either a number of ball shots or a single projectile for each pull of the trigger, or any firearm designed to be fired from the shoulder which does not fire fixed ammunition. [JD1]Deleted this subsection and all others in this document because it is duplicative since the subsections are cited in the preceding sentences.

@EngineerJet: Ok, if I understand you correctly, what you have sketched above is a plan layout of the existing 2x6 attic joists, rendered in brown colored lines, that span perpendicularly from the exterior/perimeter house bearing walls to the load bearing interior wall. In an earlier post, you mentioned that the total horizontal length from the two perimeter walls is 20 ft. 6in. If that is the case then the actual clear span of the existing 2x6 attic joists from each perimeter wall to the central load bearing interior wall is 10 ft. 3 in. That is at the maximum recommended span for that size wood joist to serve their original purpose. Again, if I understand you correctly, your proposed 2x4 risers, rendered in blue colored lines, are just placed on top of the existing 2x6 attic joists, running perpendicular to them. By doing that, you are not increasing the stiffness or load bearing capacity of the existing attic joists. All that does is add additional weight (load) on the existing 2x6’s. Then you would lay your plywood floor sheathing on top of the 2x4 risers. I would not recommend that you do this layout, as you propose…. Let me explain in more basic terms to try to avoid confusion. To ensure that you can safely create an attic space for storage purposes, one sensible option would be what @Malsua had originally suggested and I further elaborated on. That is to augment the existing 2x6 wood attic joists by fastening, (sistering), another 2x6 wood joist to each existing joists, running in the same direction. When you do this you would offset them in the vertical cross-section by two inches (2”), as illustrated in my basic sketch attached here as a pdf file. You would need to connect the two attic joists with a secure fastener that would be strong enough to ensure that the two “ganged” 2x6’s are now working in tandem structurally to create a stronger load bearing horizontal member (joist). That is accomplished by using 3/8" x 2 1/2" stainless steel hex head screws that are installed in a staggered configuration at 16 on center (O.C.) to gain the desired stiffness and bearing properties that will allow you, as well as any future owner of your house, to store whatever you want within reason, up in your attic space. This approach also will allow for the option to install added insulation between the augmented wood attic joists to achieve a much higher (better) insulating R-Value. I hope this clarifies what I am suggesting you consider doing. But as I had recommended earlier, the best route to take is to have either a licensed Architect or a Structural Engineer to come to your home to see for themselves and to verify exactly what your existing conditions are and to then perform the necessary calculations to determine what your various options are. That would not be too expensive and worth the gained peace of mind that whatever you ultimately decide to do will be adequate, as well as safe for your needs. You are wrong, but because you are right. On paper, I agree with you. It sounds like it should work that way. However.... Because you are right about the pinky having undue influence. I find that in people who have a tendency to milk the grip, a shorter grip can often give better, more consistent results. This is because we don't really control the recoil on a gun. I have yet to see someone who stops the recoil form moving the gun. We manage it, and that pinky only adds so much to the brute strength equation, and we don't dedicate a whole lot of brain to fine motor control of the pinky, so it's really not doing the heavy lifting when it comes to management. It's much better at screwing things up before breaking the shot where we give the least capable finger outsized influence because of that increased leverage you mention. The right answer is make your pinky less retarded, build up your control of it, and stop milking the grip. But the short grip can actually be some shooters' crutch just as much as a full size gun. If guns were like wrenches, hammers, baseball bats and tennis racquets where the fingers can essentially go completely around the grip, I don't think this would be an issue where results can vary, but guns aren't like that. Post breaking the shot, it's a majority of brute force. More fingers better. Pre- breaking the shot, it's about subtlety and control. And if you look at things that need that. you find a whole lot of instances where you use three fingers and tell the pinky to go fuck off because it's useless.

@Sniper: From what you have written in your post above, it is clear that you do not understand the basics of how residential balloon frame wood structural design works. Not to worry, many people do not understand it and that is why they hire Architects, Structural Engineers and General Contractors to determine the best solution to safely meet their residential structural goals. What is reckless and potentially dangerous is for you as a lay-person, who does not know how and where the variables of structural loads are determined, carried and dispersed, is stating to the O.P., with apparent absolute certainty, that you know that his existing situation will work for his intention. Of course, who cares if you are wrong..... you are just some guy giving his silly uneducated, as well as unlicensed opinion on something you know nothing about. We Architects and Structural Engineers have studied theses issues and are tested and licensed by both state and national registration organizations for a reason. Unlike you, we have an obligation to gain an education from both formal schooling, apprenticeship to other licensed professionals and from our work experience. We must be knowledgeable of and to adhere to accepted means of design and construction in order to, at the very least, meet the minimal established standards for safety and durability, as well as adhering to all applicable building codes. You may be knowledgeable about many things, but this topic is clearly not one of them. AVB-AMG

@Sniper: When calculating loads, any "stuff" stored in the newly created attic space is considered live load. That, in addition to whomever is accessing that space to store and retrieve that stuff is also live load. So keep in mind that whatever is being stored up there will be "using it everyday".... The concern is not really the thickness of the plywood floor sheathing but the load capacity of the floor joists. The load capacity of the wood floor joists is determined by their vertical dimension and the clear span between supports, whether those supports are a load-bearing end wall, or wood girder or a doubled wood stud column, etc. Also, who knows who the next owner of that house may be and what they may decide to store up in that attic space....? None of this is "over thinking", but is a prudent exercise in safety to provide reassurance and peace of mind that he, (the O.P.), is not inadvertently creating a potential safety hazard. AVB-AMG

The accuracy of the two piece barrel is a result of the actual barrel tube being held in tension within the shroud. This is/was more apparent with the Dan Wesson revolvers and the user changeable tube and shroud barrels and the reason why they were the preferred IHMSA revolver. MIM parts need little to no machining and they hold tighter tolerances, thus less tolerance stack and less hand fitting needed. I don't know why, in the mind of a lot of shooters, new = bad/cheap. New technology makes for better guns for less money. Not a fan of the lock, but I've never let it stand in the way of me purchasing a gun I want. If they bug you that much they are easily removed and even the hole can be cosmetically hidden. Welcome to the 21st century. Adios, Pizza Bob

My experience with the FARS system has been as follows: Made my initial fpid application on Feb 22,2019. Both reference emails were sent out almost immediately. Picked an appointment to be fingerprinted and printed the confirmation page out. Feb 24,2019 one reference completed the questionnaire, got an email confirmation. Feb 26, 2019 visited my local PD in Monroe Twp, Middlesex county to pay my $5 fee and confirm my name and address info was correct. Told me I didn't need the mental health form if NJ resident for last 10 years as others have stated. (I saw the incorrect info on the NJSP site others have mentioned) Told me I will receive a email when the application is complete and approved, but to wait for them to call before coming to pickup the card. Feb 27, 2019 second reference completed questionnaire, got email confirmation. Got my fingerprinting done. They verified my name and address was correct. Mar 2, 2019 got an email stating my criminal history check was completed. Mar 13, 2019 got an email stating my application was approved and complete Mar 14, 2019 got a call from my local PD to come pickup my card. The records clerk instructed me to verify all info was correct before signing. My middle initial was incorrect. They verified that it was correct on the application and matched the info on my dl and placed the blame on wherever the card was typed up. Now waiting for a corrected card to be prepared, was told I will be called when it is ready. So I guess the cards themselves are still manually typed even though all the applications, fingerprints, etc are done electronically based on the correct info I supplied through FARS. Overall my local pd was very efficient, helpful, professional through the process and I have no complaints at all with them. The updates from FARS were nice to have. Typical of this state to take an almost completely electronically conducted process and bungle it up while performing the very last step manually, after being told by "them" on 3 different occasions to make sure all of my info was correct or I would have to submit another application and pay again. I will update when the correct card is in my possession.

It's been like a year and a half or so since I applied for permits. Last time I didn't have to do anything online, it was all on paper and turned in. When I did the online application this time, and went to the local PD to turn in the 066 form, they first told me they weren't processing the new online app. So they give me the manual paper packet, and it says go online to do the criminal background check, and the results get sent electronically to them. That's just stupid. If they can receive one form electronically from the SP, they should be able to get them all. This is the 21st century, computers weren't built yesterday. Once I questioned that, they figured out that they could also process the online application. They're just being lazy government workers.... as usual.
  36. 1 point
So, 1. I still have to go to the PD and sign a Mental Health Check form. 2. I still have to go to the PD and pay for my P2P's. While I appreciate the emailed references, and electronic application, if your going to streamline line the process, streamline the whole fucking process. More half assed NJ bullshit.
