I've heard lots explanations why people purchase a Glock, but how it feels in the hand is almost never one of them.

Thanks - I only have a case and a half. I have my Beretta S686 Essential - you are welcome to try it out.

Remember, by the time you get the gun in hand from an online website you will have paid tax, shipping and transfer fees. Keep that in mind when it comes to pricing. Most people end up overpaying for guns in this state due to these fees.

If you are scraping off bullet coating, definitely increase the cartridge mouth flare...just enough to stop the scraping. Too much flare shortens case life, from excessive working of the brass at the mouth. Not a big deal with 9 mm brass being so easy to find, but a consideration when loading something more expensive. The plunk test probably indicates your loads will work fine with that gun, but you are out near the maximum COAL for the round, so shortening it up a bit wouldn't hurt, and may help with function in other guns. Some are less tolerant of long COALs The minimal effort required to run the press is definitely because you are loading 9 mm, that's about the least effort that any case is going to require--though all pistol rounds will be pretty easy to load. The sturdy bench becomes important when loading big rifle rounds, which will require a lot more effort to crank through.

I also use the hornady die adapter on my rock chucker — makes swapping dies easier never had a problem with dies not threading down enough with the hornady bushings — some do get close rcbs, hornady, lee, lyman, dillon and redding dies all in my kit — my prefered dies are redding but you can’t always find them in a timely manner

You shouldn't be scraping the coating off... any bullet without copper plating or jacket will require slightly more flare for seating. Minimal flare is nice and all to work the brass less and increase longevity, but softer materials will shave off against the case edge. I load 124gr rn to a coal of 1.135. RN within Min and max should not give you issues Saami spec and factory ammo is 1.160. Its all the other flat nose conical and hollow points that run into cycle issues with loading angles and feed ramps

Bring them in — the carboard boxes won’t like the moisture just in case you don’t use them all and need to store them for next time

I hope you still need them. I just got home with 8 cases. Cheyenne doesn't answer their phone anymore apparently, want you to contact them via fb or email; then they don't respond to emails. I got them from Pineland in Jackson, down the road from CJ. He answers his phone. I paid $19.99 +tax for a case of 135; no idea if that's a good price or not. New guy question time again... How sensitive are these to moisture? Threat of some storms this afternoon/evening. Will they be ok in the bed of my truck with a tarp over them, or do I need to schlep this inside and back out in the morning?

I'm almost in total agreement with you......... If the OP wants new, and the budget allows, check out a S&W 686. If he doesn't mind used (which 90% of my guns were when I bought them) he will find a TON of S&W 686's for sale. I have 5 of them! Anyway, great first gun, get a few boxes of wadcutters, I have never had anyone complain about recoil with them. Semi wadcutters for a little more kick. .38 Special for a little bit more bang, and then .357 Magnum for something FUN! Shoot it in D/A to learn how to control the squeeze of the long trigger pull. Cock the hammer for S/A mode for the feel of the typical semi auto. I shot a Glock once, have no desire to do so again. To this day I have yet to buy a "plastic" gun, but have shot some that I did like, the Glock I shot was not one of them though. TO each their own.

The more you flare it, the more flare you will have to remove. A little shave of the coating wont hurt anything. Take some measurements of the inside of the case after sizing and of the bullets. Sturdy bench is a must so equal pressure can be applied each stroke, With alot of flex I suspect you wont get exact OAL every time. 9mm is very easy to size and load as are most straight walled pistol cases. Using cases fired from your gun may result in easier sizing, as unknown cases fired in unknown chambers may be harder or easier to size.

It's all personal taste. Nothing particularly wrong with Glocks. Epic loads of aftermarket support for them. You can customize the hell out of them. So if that's what you want, go for it. Just depends on whether you want that style or not.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with a G17 as a first pistol. There are lots of people who hate Glocks, lots who love them, and lots who see them as just another pistol. They're very vanilla, they're typically VERY reliable and don't need tons of maintenance, and they typically cycle loats of ammo.
