Get a Beretta. It's like a sexy Italian supermodel. A Glock is more like a burly, lesbian East German gym teacher.

Hello all, My wife and I celebrated our 21st anniversary along with our three boys. I grew up in PA (though next year I'll have been in NJ longer than I was in PA) and started shooting targets at a range with an ancient .22 bolt-action rifle as early as the age of 10. My interest in firearms is primarily shooting at a range, with a strong secondary benefit of home defense. I really love going hunting. The experience of being with people, being out in the woods, the social aspect, the hunting part... all the stuff around actually lugging a deer out of the woods after you shoot it. I just don't get a charge out of coming home with the trophy or the provisions. To each his own. I gave all of my rifles and shotguns to a friend when I moved to Jersey (imagine that, no government involved!) but always missed them. Every time I looked into getting a permit in NJ I was so overwhelmed and annoyed with the process that I gave up. New babies kept showing up in my house, reasons to not bother, etc. Then earlier this year it hit me - I don't want my boys growing up infatuated with or afraid of guns, I don't like being without home defense, and I really miss shooting and want to share it with my family. That and anytime I imagine the world going sideways, I'm left holding a baseball bat. Once the quarantine hit I had the time and my wife and I both took it to get our FID and a few pistol permits. She's all set, I'm still probably a week or two off (I screwed up the first application - protip: triple check your drivers license number when you fill out your app). I would say the East Greenwich Police Department is pretty solid. Given the delay caused by Identogo being closed for however long they seem to operate in a very orderly and timely manner. We ended up talking with the police department on a couple of occasions with good success, and the detective I spoke to about my application mishap was cool and spent time talking through my options with me - we have no complaints. I've been lurking here for months now - I don't recall how I found the site - perhaps via /r/NJGuns. I'm a sponge for data so I've been reading, watching videos, and absorbing everything I can. I'm also a phpbb forum old-timer - I've been using message boards like this for decade(s) now. Which means I speak when spoken to and only pop my head up if I can provide value. And I know where the search button is I created the account because I'm starting to come up against questions I can't find answers to using that handy button and may start posting a few. I'm pretty set on getting us Glocks, though I don't expect to find them. We're very practical people by nature and despite many friends recommendations that I can do better for less, etc, etc - I want a straight forward solution for us. Beyond Marvel vs. DC/Chevy vs. Ford style joking, I have run into few experts I trust suggest that a Glock is a bad decision. I'm also interested in looking into an AR/Other style rifle, which is where my questions start to creep in. That and we also need to find a range. Anyway - thanks for hosting the forum and taking time to read!

Same here, though I'm leaving "the hood" shortly. Finally got into senior housing in Cherry Hill, so I'll be out of here by end of the month. Staying in the prnj because my kids and grandkids are here. And remember what grandkids are ... ... they're the reward you get for not having strangled your teenagers!

and to dive a little deeper.... you support one of the largest anti gun machines to ever exist... the NJ government through your tax dollars.. which is exactly why I left NJ.. worrying about dicks sporting goods while living under the oppressive NJ government is like worrying about a faucet in your house dripping while the entire second floor is engulfed in flames..

From the heading, I thought this thread was going to provide the answer to a question I've wondered about for some time: At what distance to zero a 9 mm carbine? (I've got a pretty good grasp on .223/5.56.)

    Yeah why would it be?

Says you who lives in Pennsylvania and belongs to a NJGunforum??? So you just decided to personally attack me cuz deep down it hurts to know your supporting an anti 2nd amendment retailer? Moderators are here to moderate or attack posters? I notice JackDaWack is of the simular opinion as I, yet you didnt comment or attack his post. Wonder why that is? Last I checked yer Federal tax $$$ are used in the House of reps everyday, whenever they can thwart your 2nd amendment rights they do and will. Oh wait thats right you live in Pennsylvania, They are exempt from Federal law I fergot. While Im at it why is someone from Pennsylvania a Moderator on a NJ Gunsforum? Maybe you should go find a Pennsylvania Gun Forum to Moderate. So you wouldnt have to read from all of Us NJ taxpayers who support an anti gun State such as NJ.

It makes me wonder what is all the workload that is so "backlogging." They make it sound like it takes 90 minutes to process each application. What's the big deal? Isn't most of the process automated?

I could see that being a problem. I did get jammed up already trying to buy alcohol at the Shop Rite. They scan the license (there's a reason I almost never buy alcohol at the Shop Rite), and it comes up as expired, so by store policy, they can't sell me booze. I tried working the clerk through the issue logically (Was I over 21 when expired in May? Yes? Then is there any way I could be under 21 now?) Not for nothing, I'm also clearly decades older than 21, but nothing worked, so it was off to the local liquor store that I should have been shopping at in the first place.

That might be OK for Intrastate but wonder how that’s going to fly out of state? I’d be a little on edge explaining to an out of state LEO, "yes officer my CDL/DL expired but don’t worry our Gov said it’s OK". Heard of radio this morning Murphy put the brakes on the DMV overnight camping excursions, . I guess the optics on that didn’t look good for the gov.

The point is that you DO have control over your direct dollars and the way you spend them. If you need a new baseball bat or sneakers Nike will get the money for it, and NJ will get the taxes, but you can absolutely keep Dick's out of the loop. Particularly for guns and ammo sales it would send a direct message to Dick's if their public actions had an impact to their bottom line. In the Wayne, NJ store for example, one of the managers said that firearms/ammo sales dropped off dramatically when corporate made the announcements regarding semi-auto sales (even though Dick's stores didn't carry them). I heard that they don't even sell guns and/or ammo there anymore. Again, you're free to spend your money any way you see fit, but directly supporting a retailer that is directly advocating against your rights (and an activity that they're luring you in for) doesn't make sense to a lot of people. Would be like going to Staples to buy copy paper to publish a newsletter while they were actively advocating against free speech for small newsletter publishers.

The challenge is that Dick's is actively working against the 2nd Amendment. It seems counter-intuitive since they sell some firearms/ammo, but money in their pocket will directly support 2nd Amendment advertising/propaganda. Your direct dollars to Dick's is working against your rights to keep and bear arms. The argument about indirect dollars is specious. It's a general truism that could be applied to all dollars spent by anyone, not direct support to a specific vendor/establishment.

Barracuda are the worst but you can get ciquatera poisoning from grouper, sea bass, or any reef fish. IIRC, the blend of herbs and spices was designed to neutralize the poison. Lots of citrus and HOT peppers. Don't know if that's true but I never saw anyone get sick.

The Dicks in Montgomery County, PA no longer carries any gun stuff.. they have fishing rods in the old rifle rack. I was there 2 weeks ago to get a new fishing rod for my kid.

Idk back in the aftermath of Sandy hook, you can still find shotguns and buckshot. Now its tough to find a pump action shotgun with some buckshot. Pretty anything that can be used for self defense is off the shelves

Isn't this old news? Its not like 2012 was that long ago to forget it was JUST AS BAD. Cheaper than dirt was actually selling cases of 5.56 for 800 bucks... I paid like 350 for a used 10/22, and couldnt find extra mags for it for like 8 months... Ar15's were gone almost indefinitely, sub par rifles selling for a premium... I see one small change today, and its that handguns seem to be in shorter supply, but I recall that as well back in 2012. Realistically, right now is actually better than 2012 was, but things can always get worse. I was getting into reloading back then and I couldn't find anything... not just bullets primers and powder but also dies and equipment was OOS In 2014 I was still overpaying for powder.. I can buy powder and bullets at normal prices right now... primers are hard to find.

.25/round is about the best you're going to do on 9mm, if you can find it.

Only reason the bulk of my ammo is in cans and not their original boxes, is I had a basement flood that wetted down most of it. 3 days with large towels, dumping out ammo and rolling it around gently to dry, then running large fans over them; I had to put it all in something. Thankfully HF had their $3/30cal can sale going on at the time. frankly, they're useful for a lot of other things as well, and stack nicely. You can even get the MTM ones with the carrier for a good price if you're patient.

Once the primer is struck and it does not go off or you get a squib, lay the gun on the table pointed down range. after a minute, it can't do any damage to you! Clear the round with a rod inserted in the end of the barrel and knock it out. It won't hurt you, just keep it pointed down range at all times. Use your shoe heel or any object to hit the rod and your hand will never be in front of the muzzle!

That's a lot of rounds in a short time frame! Are you cleaning and lubing the pistol? Trust me, it's not the gun! I have the Q5 and it's been great. Your problem was caused by a bad round of ammo. Don't let it spook you!

7.62x39 is about 24 cents a round for steel case. Considerably cheaper than 223 at the moment.

I'm far from an expert but have shot thousands of rounds and never had a live round jammed in the chamber. Is this a recurring problem for you? If so you may want a gunsmith to check your firearm out. But as Zeke said, bring a wooden dowel and hammer with you just in case. There are volunteer RSOs there most of the time. Almost every one I've spoke with there is friendly and if you ever did encounter a problem I'm sure others would help if they could .

    A) Check that gun did not cause bullet burr. B) If gun did not cause burr, buy better ammo. Look, we get it, it's your first gun, it's dangerous, not a toy, a murder machine, and the seemingly awesome power in your hand frightens you a little bit. That lasts about 10 minutes once you get going. It certainly can be dangerous but it's not going to cause a tear in spacetime. Get some snap caps and finger bang that gun every night until you know everything about it. How it feels, it's weight and balance, the mechanics, trigger pull, how it sounds. Get downright intimate with it.

Malfunctions are rare. Malfunctions that send you home with a busted, jammed up gun, even rarer. If you don't already have snap caps to practice manually cycling the action, get some.

Well, if they're smart they can have their revenge on Murphy in 16 months. Unfortunately voters have short memories and Murphy plans to milk this virus for all its worth right up until Nov 3. Afterward, he figures he'll have a year for damage control blaming it all on anyone but himself.

I have 38 brass up the yin yang.... i 'may' have a second set of 38 sp dies.... i have powder, primers, heads (wc's)...and a nice single stage press... I can outfit you for 200 plus rounds easy to start with.... but 1k primers...etc... I am in SC now visiting my daughter..when I get back i will send pics.... The good news.....it will be a very very fair price...BUT you gotta come up to Vernon to get it.... your call...if you want to... its a lyman Spartan single stage...i believe i have every part for it...i gotta check... 1000 small pistol.primers 250-300 38 special cases i have a pound of win231..or autocomp for ya... might have the dies...hmmm....maybe not..bet on NOT... You come get it all....gimme...say 50 bucks...i need a new mold for my victory revolver...lemme know...!!!

Ammo cans a great for a lot of things but I would never pay a premium price for them 50 cal gi cans are what you want — somewhere around $5 each is bargain pricing but hard to find
