Not HALF BAD !?!? LOL My oldest daughter has a Smith airweight Model 37 in 38spl. My youngest is getting a Smith Model 36 - both J frame round butt that fit their hands great.... i have the same 36 in square butt for my hands... These are snub nosed revolvers - they are NOT target guns... but at the ranges they were designed for they are effective. Also consider this...and i just demonstrated this to my daughters BF. If you are attacked, good chance it will end up on the ground or even standing and the attacker is on you and assuming you can get the gun out and into action....IF you press a semi auto pistol into the attacker, as would be most likely your first thought to create distance...and push em away...if enough pressure is on the muzzle it will force the gun out of battery....once out of battery trigger doesn't work Revolvers do not have that problem...

When was the last time there was a global pandemic with a very infectious virus? Let it go, no one really cares that you are that dead set against the vax.... Its really not that important, none of our opinions matter - you cannot will not change the policy of Rutgers by complaining about a vaccine on njgf.

The Shield EZ is definitely easy to manipulate - I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to rack and manipulate. However, I'm not a fan of the grip safety at all. They have the grip safety because the trigger on the Shield EZ is a lot lighter than most subcompact concealed carry type guns. Trigger pull on the Shield EZ is about 4.5 lbs vs about 6lbs or more for other small guns. I would say try out as many guns as possible. If you can rent some, great. Gun For Hire definitely has a ton of rentals available. Also, the Second Amendment Women shooting club has events there. Check them out: http://sawshootingclub.com/ As for a FFL - I would say FSS Armory up by you, unless others have a better option. I doubt you'll find a "cheap" FFL up in North Jersey

i probably phrased it wrong. i meant to describe what's wrong with it...if it's breached into the combustion chamber, you'll get a misfire sometimes only on startup. if it's just leaking oil it's slightly less critical to replace fast. i wasn't trying to be a wise guy....was trying to help ya get someone interested, 'cause it's kinda a steal at the price you're asking.

Oh, forgot to mention, difficult to re-load under stress. Better make sure those six shots count and/or hope there is only one assailant.
  8. 1 point
Oh stop being a mall ninja.... lol. Consider this, someone who has little experience with a firearm that has to manipulate it under stress and has an adrenal dump, that causes frog brain...and tunnel vision...may do much better with a simplistic weapon in lieu of a whiz bang hi cap polymer wonder.... assess her need and skill set.... Stop inferring the idea that she is going to encounter some armed up cartel gang like a LEO..... granted while that CAN happen.... She may do better as a new owner with something simplistic...KISS principle....to start. Btw i don't know what revolvers your shooting...and with what ammo...BUT a 38 snubbie as compared to a 6" 44mag is not the conversation. Also 12g pump guns are a staple in any arsenal and are very effective for self defense of home and self. @Vixen1920... there are many tools that you can choose from.... try them all.... and remember this...... if everyone is thinking the same way then someone isnt thinking....

The "get a revolver" dinosaurs always pop up in these threads eventually. They want you to get what they like, not what is right for you. Next will be suggestions for a 12 gauge pump shotgun. There is a reason LE switched from revolvers to hi-cap semi-autos decades ago. Revolvers are low capacity, high recoil, with a long heavy 12 pound trigger pull, the opposite of what you were looking for.

If you're in the north east of NJ take a look at http://sawshootingclub.com/ They have a monthly meet at Gun For Hire in Woodland Park with instructors in their membership who can help you out. They also benefit from free rentals during the meet - you just have to use ammo you buy from the range.

my aunt was talking about getting herself at revolver with the same thought process but for some reason I hadn’t considered it. That’s not a half bad idea. I’ll definitely make sure I can try that before getting anything else. Thanks!

I've got a Mossy 500 pump and I use it for everything - clays, turkey, and deer with slugs. Probably the most versatile gun I own. They are inexpensive, reliable, and actually fit me better than an 870.

Our shop will allow you to add another long gun (or 2 or 3.....) to a 4473 as long as that long gun was in our inventory on the day the NICS was submitted. If the 2nd gun came in after the NICS submission, a new NICS must be done.

My wife has the .380 EZ, she is 4’11 with very small hands, it fits her perfect, recoil is not an issue for her with that gun. She also shoots my guns, one that she enjoys is my Colt 1911 in .45 auto, much bigger gun and heavier, she handles the recoil fine and enjoys shooting it, she can rack the slide with some effort, definitely not as easy as her .380 but she can do it. My point is, don’t pass on a gun because you read about recoil, as others have said, heavier guns have less felt recoil. Another gun I have is a Beretta 92x performance it is a 9mm but very heavy almost no recoil with it and I mean almost none, she likes shooting it but the weight is to much for her, after one mag she says, that’s enough, I can’t hold it up anymore.

I want the Security 9, because you can never have enough tools in the toolbox. I believe, the right tool, for the right job. Maybe that's why I own over a dozen power drills.. Plus the Security 9 compact is a little lighter than the SR9C and larger than the LC9S, so it fits right in between them. The LC9s, being lighter, might have more recoil, but if it fits your grip better (it's a personal preference), you might not have an issue (you mentioned you were petite, right?). I don't notice a big difference between the two. The LC9 is a lot easier to rack. It was tough to find in stock, most places were out: https://shopdunns.com/

Depends on where you purchase it from - Some websites that drop ship will just remove the mag. Bud's Gun Shop for example - if a gun comes with 3 mags that are not NJ legal, they'll just keep the mags and ship only the gun without a single magazine. Some websites will ship with the mag and the FFL you transfer it through can either remove the non-NJ legal mag, or modify it (for a fee) to 10 rounds. It looks like pretty much every P365 comes with 10 round mags - there's also "state compliant" versions of a lot of guns that come with only 10 round mags.
  21. 1 point
Subcompacts all will recoil more than a full size or even a compact. Because they're small and light, the amount of recoil will be much more no matter what. Larger, heavier pistols will have less felt recoil. With loading mags - you can get mag loaders that will make it very easy to load. I use a Maglula to load my mags. It's definitely a thumb saver.

PSA has the Shield EZ 9 in stock for $450 + shipping/tax... Get that shipped to a good FFL with a decent transfer fee. Let us know where about you live and we can recommend a good FFL. Get the expungement. I have made my mistakes when I was younger which left me in limbo on my gun rights in this state. You need to get that expungement man. I know when I did my expungement, my lawyer did jack shit for me, it’s probably better to petition the courts yourself. Since I got my expungement in December 2019, I have been buying guns left and right every month to make up for the loss time.

First of all, welcome! Secondly, do you really like the 2 you tested out? Or, are you still in shopping mode? I'm not exactly sure from your post. You still sound pretty open. Because, FYI, everyone (and his uncle) will weigh in on this thread suggesting what you should buy. Gun people are very helpful that way... but it's sometimes enough to make one's head explode, lol. IMO, there's really no substitute for trying them out before you plunk money down. That said, if your goal is to continue shopping for a bit, you can certainly rent any additional models at a commercial range, but I wouldn't go in with a huge list... that will start blowing more money than you need to. FYI, there are various ladies' shooting groups that have chapters in NJ - most will sponsor an "open shoot" on occasion where (even without being a paying member), you can attend one event and move down a whole row of ports trying everyone else's guns. The advantage of doing that at a women's event is that MANY people there will have picked out their own guns using similar criteria as you - small hands and/or based on weaker hand and arm strength, etc. Send me a PM and let me know where you live. If there are any chapters near you, I'll certainly send you their info. However, if your goal is to just move swiftly towards purchase, selecting 1 of the guns you already mentioned, then that's something different. So, which is it? Again, PM me if I can be of help on the ladies' shooting events - it really is a nice way to try out a whole bunch of guns for little or no investment. It can bring a lot of clarity to your purchasing decision. (Oh, and fair warning, MOST of us thought we wouldn't become enthusiasts and that we were going to stop after buying 1 gun...ummm, yeah... good luck with that!)

Yep . . . If you don't like the thumb safety, it can be removed but it can't be added to the non-safety version.

I second the Smith & Wesson M&P EZ 9mm (or .380 version), both 8+1 round capacity. Make sure to get a thumb safety version. Try Steve at Monmouth Arms, he can order it or handle an online sale transfer. https://monmoutharms.com Here is list of online sellers that have it in stock. (Locked and Loaded usually has good service). https://gun.deals/search/apachesolr_search/022188879209 .380 version: https://gun.deals/product/smith-wesson-mp-380-shield-ez-manual-thumb-safety-36599 You would just call or order online like any other purchase then they ship to the FFL dealer you choose, the FFL does the paperwork and transfers firearm to you. Easy peasy.

With a subcompact gun, you may find the recoil may be more than you expect and you may not be comfortable shooting it. I would say go for a Glock 48 or 43x. Both come with 10 round mags standard. The 43x and 48 are slim gripped guns - better for smaller hands. I added some Talon Grips to mine for comfort. The 48 has a longer barrel/slide which I personally prefer, but a lot of people like the 43x more - shorter slide/barrel and it's easier to conceal. I've seen them in stock online at decent pricing. They fit well in an IWB holster too:

It doesn't meet the 10 round portion of your request (but there may be some extended magazines, I'm not sure), I bought a S&W M&P 2.0 Shield EZ 9mm for my girlfriend to shoot. She has two messed up fingers on her left hand and had trouble pulling the slide on other guns. This one works great for her. The two that you mention are great guns even if I am more partial to the Sig.

I'm going to VERY TEMPORARILY lock this thread. I spoke with the OP. We're not looking to have bidding wars happening in the background. He's working right now, but he's going to decide a firm price and come back later tonight to update the post reflecting that. Then, the first to post, "I'll take it" will get it as per the rules. Remember, we want to keep all of this transparent and on the up-and-up. Thank you! @ Downtownv - when you're ready, either PM the mods or use the report button and we'll unlock this thread. Update: Thread is unlocked! Buyers welcome!

There is a difference, slight, but there. Heel is marked .30 cal. Which on a garand is understood to be 30-06. In your case Oprod is marked 7.62. Some are marked on barrel. some on oprod.

If you do a little research you will quickly discover what type of rifle will fit your needs, YouTube is a great resource for reviews on many rifles and hand guns. If it’s a lemon of a rifle the reviews will be on there. Many gun ranges will rent firearms, take advantage of it and go shoot the rifle you are looking at buying, you do not need an FID card to rent, you will have to fill out a few forms and present a driver license though, you will also need to go with a second person, you can’t rent a firearm alone. It’s a bit pricey to rent but what other option do you have if a friend doesn’t have the firearm you are looking at. Good luck in your search, and ask many questions.

Welcome. It's not that difficult and doesn't cost a lot of money (shouldnt's cost anything, but don't get me started) to get your Firearms ID Card and pistol permits. Go to your local police department for the paperwork or some departments are now online. In a nutshell you are going to need to submit information and also have need to have two non-family members to "vouch" for you by submitting paperwork or answering an email from the police department. I haven't done it in a few years so not sure how the "new" online system works. You'll need to make an appointment to get finger printed by a third party. The police don't do it. This is the most expensive part of the process. I believe it's around $50. When you are applying the Firearms ID Card is seperate from a pistol permit. Generally you can apply for up to three permits at once. But you can only use one every 30 days and only have 90 days generally to use them. Each time you want to purchase a new pistol you have to fill out all the paperwork as if you have never done it before (minus getting re-fingerprinted). It's sounds more difficult than it is but it's not hard at all. You just have to start the process. Good luck.

Howdy, and welcome to the forums. There are several sub forums here that will help square you away. Grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and have a read through them. In the mean time, know that real bbq isn’t cooked in a crockpot, real chili doesn’t have beans, and (I’m told), there isn’t any such thing as Taylor Ham.

Think, for a start, about any interaction with the police that involved a violent act on your part. Domestic disturbance etc. Then think about any convictions. The check is really to make sure that you haven't been convicted of any felonies (called "indictable offenses" in NJ) or domestic violence related charges. The same goes for the mental health questions. Have you ever been committed to a psychiatric hospital or ward? That kind of stuff. In the end, fill the form out to the best of your ability. They will either issue the card, or not. If not, you aren't in any trouble unless you LIED ON THE FORM. Back around 2008 or so, it took me about five months to get my NJFID in Mount Laurel, NJ. They were notoriously slow at the time. Mine was slowed a little because I asked the father of a friend, a NJ State Trooper, if I could use him as a reference then he told the investigating officer that he didn't know me that well. They let me amend the application to use a different reference. Yes . . . You could us a better image of your avatar. The pixelation makes Mr. van Winkle's grey hair look like a checked cloth head covering. I'm a chip off the ol' Nipper myself . . . I wasn't a member of the NRA before purchasing any guns but I had my NJFID for over ten years before I used it. Don't worry about it. It's not a complicated process or form. Just go to the site, print it out and research your answers if you are not sure. Don't worry about what you are going to buy. I believe, if you intend to buy a handgun, you can request that permit at the same time. For now, I suggest applying for two or three P2P permits. Once you start shopping, you are likely to see more than one thing that you really like.

I'm curious of why you paid for a membership in a pro-gun organization for 10 years and never owned a firearm?
  45. 1 point
Be sure your record is clean before applying. Any convictions no matter how old or trivial will show up on the background check. Same goes for the mental health questions. BTW you would be applying for a Firearms Purchaser Identification Card (and if you choose a Handgun Purchase Permit). Although not considered gun registration per se in N.J. thats what it amounts to, particularly with regard to handguns.

Start here: https://www.njsp.org/firearms/fars.shtml You do not need to know what you want to buy before you start the process of obtaining your FID or Pistol Purchase Permit. I have a friend from work that has had his FID for well over a decade and never purchased a firearm yet. A FFL is not going to sell you something you cannot legally own.
  49. 1 point
Welcome! The first thing you will need is a NJ Firearms Purchaser ID card (FID). This will allow you to purchase long guns and handgun ammo in the state of NJ. You do not need any "intention of buying it first". If you are interested in buying a handgun, you will need a NJ Permit to Purchase a handgun (P2P). You must present this when making the purchase and once issued it is only valid for 90 days (it may be extended one time for an additional 90 days). Note that you do not need a IFD to purchase a handgun, just the P2P, but you will need the FID to purchase handgun ammo.

Let us know how it goes. Hopefully as well as mine. Within hours of just the prp injection there was a great difference.
