I think we should name the ffls and their prices. Nothing wrong with helping forum members save money.

Meh, take out suicides and drug/gang related shootings and as a country we have less gun related issues than the EU, that is the reality. Fix the issues with the gangs and drugs and figure out how to help people who want to kill themselves and we get rid of 95% of the issue but that doesn’t push the narrative so we can’t do that.

So, why do YOU think the gun control movement doesn't focus on actual criminals then? That's what the gun rights crowd has been promoting for years! How impressed should we be that someone in the gun control movement finally came to the same view, a decade or 2 later? And also, FWIW: we're certainly NOT the highest level of gun crime in the world, despite our high gun ownership rate. Though murder (by gun or otherwise) is, as you say, "awful" - let's not forget that our rate of gun homicide has been played like a fiddle and wildly exaggerated by the press and the gun control movement. There's no need to buy into that spin. This is a country of 330+Million people - even rare events rack up a high body count pretty quickly, simply because of our massive population size. if we're talking about saving lives - and want to focus on sheer numbers - we'd be far better off starting a national diet & exercise campaign than focusing on guns! Gun homicides are simply dwarfed by obesity-related deaths. Gun homicides - last I checked - don't even hit the "top 20" causes of death in the U.S. I'm not adding these last 2 points to minimize the issue - but merely to offer a rational, fact-based perspective and sense of proportionality.

On Thursday I went to my local gun shop to see what guns have come in. All of the gun shops are well stocked where I live. They had a Dan Wesson Heritage. I picked it up and was impressed by the fit and finish. I was not familiar with the Heritage so I Googled it from my phone. I saw that it was on the lower end of the price scale for Dan Wesson and the price was almost the same as I paid for my Sig Emperor Scorpion 1911. I bought it and took it home and fired four magazines through it. It is easily the smoothest shooting semi-auto handgun I own. It is also extremely accurate. I have three Dan Wesson revolvers and now see myself heading down the Dan Wesson rabbit hole. If the lower end gun is this nice, then the mod to higher end guns must be incredible. I am now thinking about getting one in 9mm which is something I never considered before.

I’m going to be selling 25-30 pistols from my collection (I don’t mean to make it sound fancier than it is). I think the prices will be reasonable and I am very easy and fair to deal with. I don’t want anyone to ever feel pressured or unhappy with a sale. I think that’s consistent with my reputation. I’m not going to load pictures but will email or text them because I’m way to lazy to upload and attach all the photos. please if you’d like to purchase any of my for sale items post I’ll take it here so there’s no confusion. Time stamp will be the ultimate determination of who will purchase the items. I will also be listing some of my reloading gear and hundreds of pounds of brass, powder and primers. No releasing powder or primers will be sold till I’m done culling the herd of firearms. All sales assume you pay transfer, it’s all about total price so just assume asking price is plus transfer. These are also cross posted on another website and I will manage which side by timestamp. Text only please 9seven3-four64-two758 all gone for this round.

Right. Can't buy what they don't have. I'm purchasing more on Ebay these days not because I want to but because the products I want/need are not available locally, the prices are insane or they've substituted a lower quality item, or both. People are going to regret the demise of brick and mortar stores. When competition is eliminated selection goes down and prices go up.

Gouging is the word. Find another FFL.

I don’t plan on buying any more firearms in NJ, so for me, it’s a self correcting problem.

I sold a pistol to a forum member here recently and he used a FFL that’s local to both of us. On my recommendation. I bought several guns from this dealer, and his transfer fee was $45+ NICS. When we met to do the transfer, he had raised his fee to $85( I think). Plus NICS. I was pretty taken aback when I heard this....IMHO, way over the top. Buyer wasn’t happy either. (That reminds me, we still need to get together for a beer or three on me, @axeman_g). On one hand, I somewhat understand the FFL transfer fee being higher for a private sale. He’s not making any profit on the firearm sale. I get that...he’s got to keep the lights on. On principle though, wow....personally I think it’s a bit excessive.

Hudson Farms can issue the green printed license. The yellow card is issued to you when you report back to the check-in table to leave after successfully completing the live fire.

I completed my "live fire" yesterday at Hudson Farms. I also used a Remington 1100 semi-auto (very nice gun BTW) and hit one out of three "birds". I was done in less than 15 minutes. When I finished, I went to the club house to get my license. That process took five minutes. A very pleasant experience!

Obviously it's liberal men castrating themselves to help stop rape. It's the kind of logic they use.

Eh, though I disagree with him on a few salient points... it does sound like this guy is FINALLY figuring out what many of us figured out a long time ago >>> though there are undoubtedly some well-intentioned people among the rank and file of gun control groups, the leadership of those groups absolutely don't give a DAMN about saving lives! They're all about power and control and adhering to political orthodoxy. The violence interruption programs that he cites in his op-ed DO, in fact, have proven effectiveness... because they focus on the PERSON, not the TOOL. For example, I've long promoted the programs developed by the criminologist David Kennedy which rely on community-led efforts to pull kids out of gang life. They have an excellent track record. However, by their very nature, those programs can't help but shine a bright light on the politically uncomfortable aspects of gun crime - like the wildly disparate crime rates (by demographics), the family dysfunction/absentee dads that helps spawn criminals, the abundance of "repeat offenders" and the broken justice system that puts them right back on the street to re-offend. The gun control movement (which tends to be overwhelmingly progressive in its political affiliation) doesn't want to touch those issues with a 10-foot pole. But, if they were actually concerned about saving lives, they'd be all over those issues! And ironically, they'd find themselves on common ground, I think, with many independents and conservatives.

I actually just did mine last month at Hudson Farms. The whole session lasted about an hour. While I was given a gun I was unfamiliar with (Remington 1100) the proctor walked me through the operation just fine. I fired a grand total of three rounds as that's how long it took me to hit a clay. It was a very pleasant experience other than the cold wind LOL. They just want to see that you know how to safely handle the shotgun and follow instructions if/when prompted. Personally Ms. Peel I don't think you have anything to worry about it.

As some others have stated,, it's a safety test. Not an accuracy test. If I recall correctly from when I took the test a few years ago, you just shoot at the ground. They want to make sure you know how to safely load, operate and shoot. They provide a shotgun. Keep in mind, they WANT you to pass. Everyone there was very helpful and friendly. Just study the material, take the test and do the live fire. You'll be fine They had a "nature walk" before the test where they went over a lot of the material. Even gave a few helpful hints like, "This MAY be on the test...so pay attention". Good luck. You'll do great!

I'm taking mine at the end of April. I'll let you know how it goes! I'm going almost completely unprepared for the firearms portion. Maybe I'll have regrets.

Grabbed a Valor 9mm yesterday off of gun broker cant wait for it to make its way home and to the range.

Its been shotgun for a number of years, since at least before I took you to said WMA. My friend recently went through this. He had to do the online bit, then scheduled the in person part. Test is simple enough most people would likely pass without having ever even studied any of the material IMO. Live fire, I did not notice anyone having significant problems. Gun I used was not one I am great with, and I missed at least one, but they were more concerned with safe handling. My instructor specifically was more interested in talking about my shotgun since it was similar to his. Course is also for kids as young as 10 or 12, so there may be a youth shotgun available which will greatly help you. Unfortunately, a lot of us do not have options ideal for *you*. I will say that a super light single shot 20ga is considerably LESS pleasant to shoot than a normal weight 12ga. That mass of a 12ga helps make it more of a fast push than a sharp kick. I remember your issues with a front heavy gun, so you may have to endure some extra kick for a few shots. You might want a semi auto 12 or 20ga if you can access one, will help absorb more kick. I have a few shotguns you are more than welcome to try (and a thrower) but none are really short models that would fit you properly, nor am I good at explaining how to hit with a shotgun. I am also very low on target loads of 12 or 20 (or .410), so you will need some of your own, but offer stands.

Depending on your location, you might consider a trip up to Thunder Mountain in Ringwood. If you can get there during the week, it's generally pretty quiet. They have practice trap stations where the clays are just moving away from you, and the instructors will go through the mechanics of shotgun operation and have you breaking clays in no time, (at no additional charge). Probably worth the trip, as it will surely allay your anxieties.

@Mrs. Peel https://www.beretta.com/en-us/a400-xcel/ Probably one of the lightest weight, softest shooting 12 guage shotguns I've ever fired. Someone brought one to a meetup at Clinton WMA. Pricey, but so nice.

And STILL, the new digital FID card: is STILL missing the verbiage on my original paper FID (Form SBI-159-7-66) issued, very coincidentally EXACTLY 44 years ago TODAY. The front reads: ... is hereby granted permission to purchase and carry rifles and shot- guns pursuant to provisions of N.J.S. 2A:151-32 and 41 with amend- ments and supplements. The law didn't change to eliminate our right to carry rifles and shotguns, but the bitches on State Street just don't want you to know you can.
