That’s the thing. A bullseye shooter will tell me my targets suck. And for their goals/discipline they are right. It all depends on what you are doing. Cheflife, best thing you can do to start is get to a class with a reputable instructor. Let someone train you then practice the skills you were taught. All the rest, working your drawstroke and transitioning between targets can be done with dry fire at home. Spend 10 minutes a couple times a week in dry fire and you will see HUGE improvements and, all it will cost you is time. Combine the dry fire practice with regular low round-count, pre-planned, deliberate, live fire range days and you are good to go. If you can consistently keep 10 rounds in the black on a B8 target at 15 yards, slow fire, you are doing great. The speed will come.

I would normally never recommend a magwell hold as its is less stable, but for you, that may be the answer. It punts significantly less stress on muscles and let’s your skeletal system hold the weight and position - and bones don’t get tired or shake. Get your support hand on the magwell, then you can rest your tricep against your chest/stomach for support. I don’t know the specs on your particular rifle, but there are lightweight uppers out there. BCM makes a great enhanced lightweight upper if you can find one.

I just got the email with my digital permits in 10 days flat out of the NJSP Augusta barracks. Sgt. Hollar is on the ball! I haven't gotten permits in 10 days since we lived in Randolph. (Pre-1994) Note: Later today I found out there's over 5,000 NICS checks in the queue. The expected wait time is at least a week.

Question one: if it’s a ban weapon from the 1990 NJ Assault Weapon ban (like a M1 carbine for example) then you can’t have it in this state. The registration period already passed a long time ago, so effectively keep your mouth shut. If the firearm in question is an AR-15 with evil features (collapsible stock, bayonet lug, threaded barrel) then separated the complete upper from the lower receiver, take the upper for compliance work at a gunsmith and once you get the upper compliant, then take lower to gun Smith to get the Burt stock pinned. For question two: if you are a cop then standard capacity magazines that hold more than ten rounds are legal. But if you aren’t a cop, then standard capacity magazines that hold more than ten rounds is illegal. If you got them, then keep your mouth shut, and if you ever want to sell them in this state or take them to the range then you have to order epoxy and mag blocks and permanently block the magazines. Ignorance of the law is not a good defense in a court of law, the burden to know the law is on you. Stick around the forum and join r/njguns on Reddit, plenty of discussions on our f-ed up gun laws so you can be informed. Also I highly recommend you get Evan Nappen’s book on NJ law, a highly recommended read, all NJ gun owners should have that book. And if you got anything illegal in this state, then KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!!!!!!!

Welcome. For real, I'm not an expert. Hypothetically: Part one, I think it depended on the firearm in question. Part two, no. Procession of any STANDARD CAPACITY magazine makes you a felon, unless you're a LEO. Fun fact, when the brain trust in Trenton first drafted and passed that law, they forgot to exclude LEOs. They needed to revise it later. Chances are others will chime in at some point. Side note, please stop using the gun grabbers terms. They are not high capacity, they are standard capacity.

@High Exposure great shooting. Yeah im looking for baselines for drawing from the holster, 10 yards out, 15 yards out and moving from target to target. Im essentially trying to push myself to be more accurate so I get better at steel competetions.

Very subjective topic. It all depends on what you are doing. For example... Confirming my zero at 25 yards:Standing, 2 handed, unsupported, slow fire, with a Comped G19 VS 90 round timed course of fire from a holster at ranges from 25 yards in to 1 yard: Different G19. This course of fire had time standards at each distance, mandatory moving stages, single handed (strong and support hand only) shooting, shooting with a flashlight in your support hand, mag changes, etc.... 1 mag, 10 yards, standing, 2 hands unsupported. Confirming zero (this gun had a 10 yards zero - I was messing around to see what I liked better) with RDS equipped pistol: (probably should have adjusted 1 or 2 clicks right) VS 200 rounds while shooting various drills from a concealed holster: Ranges varying from 3 yards to 40 yards. (I kept putting new B8 s on top, when I was done this was the target in the back) Confirming 50/200 yard zero on a 16” AR with Holosun RDS at 50 yards from the prone: VS 110 round course of fire ranging from 100 yards all the way in to 5 yards. Timed course of fire requiring moving, reloads and high percentage shots.

All the holes touching which will sometimes look like a cloverleaf outline. Also know as a single hole group. It is harder to do with a .22 than a .45.

IT all depends on what you're shooting for and with For precision with a handgun, I would say a cloverleaf at 7-10 yards and up to 4 inches at 25 yards. For action shooting like IDPA or USPSA the size of the down-0 or A-zone is what you need to hit. On an IDPA target the down-0 on the body is 8" and on the head it's 4". You need to be able to hit that and whatever distance is to the target. You adjust your speed depending on the target distance. i.e. you can hit an 8" circle really fast at 7 yards, but have to slow down and aim more carefully when it's 25 yards away. IDPA has a rule that you cannot force a headshot farther than 10 yards. With a rifle, I would want to be able to do less than 1 MOA (approx. 1" at 100 yards) shooting prone off a rest. Other positions would be larger groups than that.

Right. Can't buy what they don't have. I'm purchasing more on Ebay these days not because I want to but because the products I want/need are not available locally, the prices are insane or they've substituted a lower quality item, or both. People are going to regret the demise of brick and mortar stores. When competition is eliminated selection goes down and prices go up.

Eh, though I disagree with him on a few salient points... it does sound like this guy is FINALLY figuring out what many of us figured out a long time ago >>> though there are undoubtedly some well-intentioned people among the rank and file of gun control groups, the leadership of those groups absolutely don't give a DAMN about saving lives! They're all about power and control and adhering to political orthodoxy. The violence interruption programs that he cites in his op-ed DO, in fact, have proven effectiveness... because they focus on the PERSON, not the TOOL. For example, I've long promoted the programs developed by the criminologist David Kennedy which rely on community-led efforts to pull kids out of gang life. They have an excellent track record. However, by their very nature, those programs can't help but shine a bright light on the politically uncomfortable aspects of gun crime - like the wildly disparate crime rates (by demographics), the family dysfunction/absentee dads that helps spawn criminals, the abundance of "repeat offenders" and the broken justice system that puts them right back on the street to re-offend. The gun control movement (which tends to be overwhelmingly progressive in its political affiliation) doesn't want to touch those issues with a 10-foot pole. But, if they were actually concerned about saving lives, they'd be all over those issues! And ironically, they'd find themselves on common ground, I think, with many independents and conservatives.

Remember that this is the same state who after completing the GSP in 1954, said tolls would be temporary until the bond of $330 million to build it was paid off.
