I personally know of at least a dozen former posters who admitted they simply got turned off by the tone and thus stopped participating here for the reasons I stated. They were very knowledgeable, too - they really brought something to the table! That's a loss! I've also had a few members - brand-new gun owners - who left for similar reasons. That's a loss, also. How do I know this for a fact? Because I see the complaints that come in, and because on occasion, I randomly follow-up and ask. For context, as a former recruiter, I use to think that "exit interviews" were heavily under-utilized. I knew that if companies spent more time keeping their current employees engaged and satisfied, they'd have less expense recruiting replacements when they walked out the door. Same principle applies here. More to the point, the 2A community is quite literally locked into a battle for its survival! We can't afford to drive ANYONE away. We should be pulling them into the fold. You even have "looky-loos" who read through these forums before they buy a gun (I know, because I was one of them). We don't want to turn people off. It's a strategic error.

No, with all due respect... I don't think it's the mix of topics! It's largely because there's too much vitriol and just plain silliness even on the threads about serious gun topics, and I know this for a fact, because I see the complaints that roll into my mailbox - and that's a common theme. And though I can't speak to Bob's situation directly, I've personally questioned a handful of members who once actively participated and no longer do so, so I think I have a sense for what generates drop-offs. So, the next time that you see a moderator admonish someone on a thread to "stop with the personal attacks" - or - if you suspect/know we put someone in a time-out (because they refused to meet those requests to lay off the attacks), please understand, THAT'S why we do those things! For the most part, people want their time on here to be enjoyable. And for most personality types, "enjoyable" means sharing information about their past-time, using that info to help people new to the shooting sports, learning a new thing or two themselves, arranging the occasional get-together, enjoying a sense of community, etc. If they don't like politics, they can avoid the 1A Lounge, but they should still be able to enjoy ALL of the other forums!!! What they don't want is to be chided, needled, or attacked. And if they post a thread about a serious topic, they also don't want it hijacked with a bunch of dumb, off-topic responses rolling in. I have heard this repeatedly over the years. And not from "snowflakes" either!... from normal, rational adults. There's a lesson in there for all of us... if we're mature enough to accept it. Again, I'm in no position to speak for him directly... but I will say that someone like Pizza Bob is a wealth of information, and a great guy in terms of reaching out to new gun owners. It irks me to no end when posters like him drift away. New Year's Resolution - let's all do better!

Forum probly got too off topic. Let's be honest, it's heavy on politics, culture wars, pandemic, pepper stuff.....some folk may not want to see all that on their gun forum.

I wasted my time so you don't have to. It was stupid. Basically it is Phase 1 - collapse.. PM worthless. Phase 2 - endurance... PM worthless. Phase 3- mumble mumble ... PM worthless Phase 4- recovery. PM can be sold again! Your corpse can now use PMs to resume your previous lifestyle! Which is kind of stupid IMO. I mean he's right in the mechanism, which is that PMs decouple your money from fiat currency, and that is their value. But he never gets very far into when and why that is of value. Here's some of mine, non exhaustive: -flight. There are cleaner shirts in the closet, and you want to put one of them on. If the smugglers aren't taking your local fiat currency, you need something to sell to get out. If they will, you may not be able to spend the local currency on the other end (embargo, no trust in it, etc). In that case PMs are man portable, fairly dense stores of wealth. -black markets. Historically things seldom break down totally and forever. The emphasis is on the KI in TEOTWAYKI in the real world. But historically, the consumer never loses. They get what they want, it just may have a cost. If people want something that the official sanctioned order of things can't get them, you get black markets. When dealing with black markets, you may need to conduct business in something other than the local currency. You can use PMs to buy things or more likely secure whatever the black market's trusted currency is. -banking without banks. Look at less developed nations, or nations with much more dynamic range with regards to wealth and poverty. PMs in the form of jewelry and luxury items are often a very common store of wealth when you don't want to trust the banks, or simply don't have banks. Anything we do today that uses loans may need something like PMs to be done in a less organized and automated society. -insurance. Mostly of the variety of I didn't see that coming. PMs can be a hedge against having prepared for the wrong systemic failure because it is a universal fiscal translator. That does come at a premium. -flexibility and freedom during the make pretend period. We are in the US. Lets face it, we are at the top of the pyramid, and if/when that ceases to be the case, we will pretend like nobody's business that everything is fine and normal. PMs, since they have use outside of being money, will likely have loopholes that will allow you to conduct some forms of business in an advantageous manner even within the system that is still hobbling around. What all the preppers and goldbugs seem to never want to say is that it's pretty much guaranteed you will lose money on precious metals. You are paying now to have them on hand later. But someone without TEOTWAYKI pressure there will be someone taking 10-20% up front to get you metal, and 10-20% at the back end to get rid of your metal. You will likely lose 25% on average doing anything but barter unless you are a fine gold/silver smith and can add value to it via your craft. That premium may buy you access to something in the future if things go badly. But realistically, if I have enough money to buy me a barrel of oil, if I turn it into PMs, I probably have enough to buy 80-90% of a barrel of oil. If I turn it back into cash at market rates, I probably have enough to buy 60-75% of a barrel of oil. From a financial standpoint, it is a significant upfront investment that can't easily be abandoned. Myself, I like to compare PMs to copper, oil, and chicken, and do my financial game planning on that historically to determine if I have "enough". (and I don't own a lot. maybe enough for a good bribe from some low level bureaucrat) But when I bought mine, a pound of boneless skinless chicken breast at costco was $1.99. Now it is $2.99. Based on metals prices, $1.99 of metals then should buy $2.98 of chicken now. A barrel of oil should be around $125, and a pound of copper should be about $5.40. It's at $4.40 (also to illustrate how you get screwed over by transitioning metals to cash, buying a pound of copper ingot runs $25-35 despite the market value. You can get industrial quantities at about $3 a pound).

It's funny - we all looked at this over a year ago and decided it wasn't worth it: Now we have re-evaluated and are thinking "maybe..." Since 2022 seems to be the year of second chances, here's a crock pot ribs recipe: https://www.thecookierookie.com/crock-pot-ribs-slow-cooker-ribs/

I'm as guilty as anyone. But on the subject of gun control, as I state in my periodic gun club update, 'gun control does not occur in a vacuum'. So, the entire political climate must be monitored and discussed, because the issue of gun control will be determined in that climate. All the techniques surrounding the handling of COVID-19 will be used to suppress our 2A rights. I can hardly wait to hear what the 'wise Latina' will come up with deciding gun control cases brought to the court. '100,000 children were killed by gun violence last year!"

They are a lot of fun, but expensive for what they actually do. They don’t make great training rounds because you end up watching the rounds themselves and their impacts instead of concentrating on the fundamentals.

Honda did some things that all the other pickup manufactures didn't. Like the dual action tailgate, I usually swing it out versus the conventional way of swinging it down. Then, they put the big trunk under the bed, which comes in handy. Yeah, the bed is a little shorter, but I've carried a ton of stuff, like 4x8 sheets, furniture, etc., you just fold down the tailgate, like the longer beds. I also like the way the split rear seat folds up to make room for poochie to jump in, and there's no driveshaft hump in the way. I've had virtually zero issues with my Ridgeline, had a starter die suddenly, but that's it.

I've never used more than fraction of my walking around money at any one time. But its comforting to know I can pay cash for just about anything outside of big expense just with what I normally have on me. I also do the car cash stash thing, not much, just enough to fill the tank get something to eat and a little left over.

No PD is going to ask for a Doctor's letter to attest that an applicant is safe to possess a gun unless there is a past mental issue that either came up during the background check or was volunteered on the application form. It's not going to be easy to find an MD who doesn't know you to give out such a letter. I would seek a consultation with a Lawyer that handles 2A cases on a regular basis and go from there. Sometimes there is no cheap and easy way out!
