The students post a flag for every veteran KIA since 9/11. 7,057 flags! They always seek donations for the cost to replace and damaged flags, to which I send a check every year. It is a very humbling display. Southern Regional High School Rt 9 Manahawkin. This is done every year, sadly new flags are continuously added.

I would actually be ok if they opened up NICS to buyers/sellers for private sales. Buyer does a BGC on themselves and seller verified. No info about the firearm or the sale itself gets recorded. A republican proposed that years ago but it was shot down by the democrats because they wanted FFL-based NICS (for the registry). I think they should teach a firearm safety course in school and offer it free as adult-education. Incentivize it by providing a discount on a safe when you present your certificate. The media needs to stop glorifying these shootings and the shooter. Memory-hole them and never mention their name. Media-contagion is a thing. And, perhaps, if something is seen posted online that is a threat it should be reported to authorities and investigated. Friends, family, class mates, should say something if they are concerned. Perhaps a temporarily condition short of “involuntary commitment” should exist that can keep someone from buying after an investigation, and hearing until they get help.

References for what? Buying a gun? We walk into a gun store, pick what you want, and fill out a 4473. If the NICS check is good, you walk out the door with it. Last NICS check I did took him longer to dial the phone than it did to get the approval. I should add that if you have a valid Texas CHL, you don’t need the NICS check.

Maybe in NJ and Cali, but that dog don't hunt in free America. It doesn't matter what "must do something" is done, it will not address the underlying problem of social decay.

LaPierre overwhelmingly re-elected as NRA head by board members By Cam Edwards | May 30, 2022 1:17 PM The outcome of the “reformers'” (or “internal enemies'” depending on who you’re talking to) attempt to unseat NRA Executive Vice President and CEO Wayne LaPierre was never really in doubt; the question was how many votes would challenger Allen West receive from the 76 members of the NRA Board of Directors. https://bearingarms.com/camedwards/2022/05/30/lapierre-overwhelmingly-re-elected-as-nra-head-by-board-members-n58864?utm_source=badaily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nl&bcid=00ea90fbf351bbfd29c96affd26f2dca49954a466ec9e3e8139f308bd8a1cb93 He must have Pics of the Board Members coming out of a cheap motel with young boys! That is where it will fail. Either the “structured questions” would themselves be tainted to “err on the side of caution” or the system would be set up such that the doctor would be liable for their decision.. so they would deny by default. Allowing infringements because we fear for worse infringements doesn’t seem a wise strategy and historically ends up going further anyway.

Were it not a requirement for membership at most NJ ranges, I believe NRA membership here would be very low. The only way the NRA can sustain itself is via extortion and relentless panhandling.

I became a life member before lapierre. I certainly wouldn't now. I'm not sure whats going on with the NRA and him other than what is made public but I think for appearances sake right now he should step aside.

The other problem with the mental health pre-screening is the government can limit the accepted doctors (sound familiar?) They could easily charge high prices and lock people out due to cost or time. Our whole legal system revolves around assuming innocence until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and NICS should reflect that.

Our institutions would have to develop and administer a procedure for young people who have or had in the past displayed non-normal behavior. Something similar to the way Amateur radio licenses are issued by the FCC, a group of volunteer examiners give the test and do the scoring. maybe a modified version of this?
  25. 1 point
The comparison to Sweden/Norway is too simple. They have a very different culture and population. Id say the idea of a mental health check to purchase a firearm would get more traction if people trusted the government and one party specifically not to take advantage of it for their own agenda.

Include juvenile arrest records in NICS, this might stop some include non-normal behavior in NICS , this might stop a few more, Stop accepting these weird behaviors as normal as the left wants us to. Sorry folk's but all these psychos all display some non-normal weird behavior prior to their actions, this kook was no exception. a process for entering this will have to be developed by US as well as way to have it removed if warranted in the future. go to any mall and observe, purple hair and weird makeup on a male= NOT NORMAL

I don’t know, maybe it’s just me but the amount of single use surgical mask litter on the roads far beats the amount of plastic bags I’ve seen prior to the bag-ban. They should investigate that. In the meantime the water in Trenton sucks but the legislators don’t care because they drink bottled waters on your dime. I installed a Water Filter system in May 2018 because of ongoing lead issue. It’s a three stage system and I change the filters twice a year. Here an image from this past May from the water captured in stage 1. Maybe their little Public Safety committees should explore that as a real Safety issue vs these stupid anti-gun laws for people that actually follow the laws and this other BS like bag laws...

Do you trust a government official to make those determination? Does this official have an anti gun agenda? Im not crapping on you. I just see the huge potential for the ‘mental health eval’ to be abused by the government.

Anyone without a criminal background should pass the NICS check quickly. The shooters who bought their firearms legally passed the same way. The problem is, that you can’t identify intent with a background check. So tell me, how do we make background checks ‘better’ so that we can determine the intent of the firearms buyer? We can’t see what’s inside someone’s mind.

there are countless procedures that WE could easily put in place to reduce the ability of these kooks from gaining access to guns, The reason they are not done is because WE want them implemented to prevent these shootings, The left/democrats want THEIR procedures implemented for confiscation/infringement/denial. democrats are not interested in stopping these shootings that is clear. The personal NICS check mentioned above, similar to a driver license abstract easily obtained from DMV could be a good check before selling a gun. Run one on yourself ( for free ) and print it out with a timestamp for eligibility. Just as the left embraces what they perceive as "climate change" the country needs to start understanding that these things are going to continue to occur until OUR safety measures are put in place: 1. arm teachers/school employees *** 2. end these gun free fantasy zones 3. allow cops to do what they are supposed to do, cop shouldn't have to second guess his actions while making micro-second decisions in these situations. pension and benefits and indictments shouldn't be the first thing on their mind. the world has changed in the last 50 years with the indoctrination of kids in schools to communist teaching and it will take another 50 once we start undoing the damage that has been done. *** I am fed up with teachers saying " I didn't sign up for this", well what the F*&K did you think the outcome was going to be with your left wing commie teachings. you created the monsters, now deal with it.

While there is no observation of Memorial Day for us in Japan, I will be sitting back and reflecting this evening about how fortunate we truly are, that countless veterans sacrificed, and gave the ULTIMATE sacrifice to protect our freedoms. As many problems and challenges we face in our country today, none of us would be where we are today if it wasn’t for the past, present, and future warfighters of our country. When I return to the hotel, I will also be cracking a bit of whisky to toast, and remember the great men and women who sacrificed for all of us. And I hope that you all will take a moment from your day to do the same.

with ALL of these laws.....and this includes here in nj.......there is virtually nothing other than us self policing ourselves .......that prevents a f2f sale, even with the current laws. if there truly were something to prevent that, then the majority of these things wouldn't happen, as they're mostly with illegally obtained tools.

I ran the smoker again today. The entree was chicken breast smoked over apple wood. Chicken breasts aren't smoked often; it's hard to keep them from drying out, but one of Mixon's cookbooks had a recipe I'd been meaning to try: overnight marinade in Coca Cola with a bit of other seasoning, home-made rub, wrap in bacon, smoke in a pan, and sauce after about 1:45 at 275-300F. I then did the extra step of putting them on a hot grill for a few minutes to crisp the bacon. I also smoked a few andouille sausages, rubbed with yellow mustard as a binder and rubbed with a commercial chipotle rub. Both were great; I didn't get pictures of either on the smoker, and they disappeared soon thereafter. The highlight was the pork belly burnt ends; 4 lbs of pork belly cut into 1"-1.5" cubes, homemade rub, 2.5 hours on the smoker grate, then 1.5 hours in a covered pan, sauced with Head Country Spicy cut with some bourbon, then another 15 minutes to set the sauce. They were a big hit. I even managed to have everything done at the same time.

We used to have private F2F transfers for long arms. We needed to show our DL and FPID card. Most states don't have a FPID card so what's to stop a felon from engaging in a private sale? I see that as a potential problem.

Do they give references in Texas? I feel like something as simple as that could help. No way this nut could get 2 people to say he's sane to have a gun. I would deal with more vetting of individuals if it allowed for cooler stuff personally. The mental health in this country is deteriorating. There's no doubt about that. Guns have been part of our culture since the beginning but school shootings are a recent phenomena. In a perfect world only mentally fit people have awesome guns. I don't think the bs laws like magazine size, caliber, stamping will do anything to stop these crimes. Maybe society just needs to get better at REPORTING the mental health issues. But we do know this guy was supposedly cutting his own face. He should not have been deemed sane to buy anything.

Went trap shooting earlier, had a bite at my neighbors house, now drinking a bourbon and watching NASCAR. Thank you to all those that sacrificed their lives for our Freedoms. A drink in their Honor. Speaking of NASCAR would like to go to Charlotte for this race where they Honor those that passed. Anyone been?

I was deferred and in college from 66-70. In the year before I graduated they instituted the draft lottery. I was in college in Montreal at the time (yes deferred in college, I wasn't dodging) when they held the lottery. All the Americans were in the dorm TV room watching. When they pulled the sixth number one of residents just screamed and ran out of the room. That was his birthdate and he knew he'd be called. My birthdate was pulled as #325, so I wasn't called. After @Downtownv's post about 'don't say Happy Memorial Day' I thought about it quite a lot. Then on the History channel yesterday I happened to see they were running Vietnam in HD, which I've never seen. That would have been my war. So I recorded it and watched the first two of six hours. Not the usual sterile style chronology like other Vietnam documentaries I've watched, but a collection of personal accounts of men who went to Vietnam, and their experiences. The stories so far have been really grim. It made me think further about Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Ukraine, and all the bravado politicians I've heard over the last 40 years hawking war as a matter of pride and patriotism. I don't think I buy that any more. Especially when I now know the Number One Export of the U.S.A. is... armaments. Real 'weapons of war'. Regardless, have an Honorable Memorial Day. Also Please, let us not forget those for whom the battlefield followed them home. Agent orange, mental breakdown, suicide, Gulf syndrome, and the plethora of other invisible boogeymen that stalked them until the very end. Remember the fallen, who's unseen wounds occurred on the battlefield, and were left ignored and untreated. I lost two friends to agent orange. They made it home alive, but it was the war that eventually killed them.

I don't know that the death penalty would even work. It seems there's a weird psychology to these mass killers in that they follow a similar pattern to people who commit suicide. In other words, they often PLAN to die as part of the attack... they're killing themselves, but also trying to take a bunch of others with them (in some twisted attempt at going out in a blaze of glory, I guess?). What can you do with sickness like that? I don't think a death penalty would phase most of these people in the slightest. Harden schools, train staff repeatedly to follow the security policies, and have MUCH better, faster intervention when these guys are poppng up on the radar screen at school, at home, etc. - and of course, for those that go on to kill, deprive them of their fame (infamy really) with greatly altered/subdued reporting therefore cutting down on copycats - I think those are the most sensible approaches. That said, some tiny percentage of psychopathic murderous individuals will ALWAYS be a part of society (always have been and always will be). You can't will it or wish it away entirely. And if you remove one tool from them, they'll move to another. To this day, the worst U.S. mass school killing remains the Bath School Massacre - look it up - been almost a hundred years old now and no guns were used. Determined madmen will find a way. Likewise, Australia has had plenty of mass murders since their gun ban - they just used arson and burned people to death. That's still HORRIFYING! (I don't even kill ladybugs, so this is something I can't even wrap my brain around). But, there's always going to be a few sick outliers like this. Some people propose raising the age at which young people can buy guns. I don't know about that. You have to ask yourself, are kids today so much less mature than in the 1950's? So much less responsible? And if so, why? And should we be allowed to draft them in that case? Or, let them get abortions? Or, let them take hormone blockers, etc? It opens up a whole can of worms that no one seems to want to deal with seriously.

I disagree slightly. No anti-gun law will ever prevent people killing others, 100% agree. But if we had laws to prevent these asshats from getting publicity and a mandated death sentence. I think that would help a little.
  50. 1 point
That never works and is a silly logic - not slamming you - lol - I just think that when people say that it's silly. Kind of like, if I have to bury a gun - that is when I need it most - There are still out there and being found today - M1 Carbines in NJ - that never killed anyone. I am not really an AR guy - I do not get the fascination with them, (I have built, owned, shot etc. eh )however, if you are a law abiding person, not mentally deficient and not a threat to others, shoot own a tank - don't care. The issue here, is that the left is not intellectually honest - no matter how many laws you have, if you are considering killing others no law is going to prevent that. Now, that being said - restricting those that are deemed a threat for purchasing a legal weapon - yes, that should be done. The parents for the Buffalo shooter admitted that he killed an beheaded a cat in their garage - ummm, they didn't think that was odd? That was NOT a warning flag? They are culpable IMO. Link mental health records to NICS - is that done or not done? I saw some has said that they are willing to send 40Billion to Ukraine - why not 40B here to protect our schools? To provide for mental health services for those in need - fix at home first - I could give a rats ass about Ukraine....(sorry a bit of a tangent)
