There is a new SP642 form issued today (6/28/2022). I have been advised by NJSP Washington Station that I should use the new form, even though that means collecting my references' signatures again. The trooper said there is a risk of eventual denial for the wrong form so it would be better to get it right now, rather than have to start again in a month or two. https://nj.gov/njsp/firearms/forms.shtml

I'm not an attorney, but I do play one on TV. (Actually in contracts for the past 20+ years.) You are correct and that's why I questioned it earlier in this thread. @KurtC is probably the subject expert here, but again, I refer to @gunforhire's last episode because he and his guest have been at the front of the fight and know the details and the realistic path forward. Yes, I did get excited and filled out the form and started to assemble the backup materials, but as I was doing that, I was listening to the podcast and realized that the path forward was unclear and would change before my application would be submitted. Yes, I do want to legally carry, as I grew up in PA and was allowed to carry there before I moved here to the PRNJ, but realistically, we all know that the government will throw roadblocks in front of us in some way, shape or form, including holding applications until the administrative code is changed, FARS gets modified, etc. Patience, gents. We've gotten this far and can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Furthermore, retired law enforcement officers usually “qualify” as a condition of their retirement if they want to continue carrying a firearm. So they always elect option b2. It has been that way for many years. Most of the existing “nj carry permits” are retired LEO. So we have a long standing tradition that most, if not all, have always chosen b2. It then becomes the norm per say. I read the statue as it is written. We can elect 1,2,3 or 4. One of them.

Supreme Court poised to drop another bombshell ruling after Roe v Wade June 28, 2022 | Terresa Monroe-Hamilton | Print Article Facebook Twitter Reddit LinkedIn Gab It seems overturning Roe v. Wade may not be the biggest decision to come down from the Supreme Court as its ruling on West Virginia v. the Environmental Protection Agency could strip the government and alphabet agencies of their unfettered powers. The case asks whether pressing policies that have an impact on the lives of all Americans should be made by unelected bureaucrats or by Congress. The ruling could decide that governing by executive agency fiat is unconstitutional, according to Fox News. The case takes direct aim at President Biden’s climate agenda and involves the Clean Power Plan. That plan was put in place under former President Barack Obama in his efforts to combat climate change. If the plan had been implemented it would have cost roughly $33 billion per year and reordered the nation’s power grid. Two coal companies and the state of West Virginia sued the EPA alleging the plan was an abuse of power. more here: https://www.bizpacreview.com/2022/06/28/supreme-court-poised-to-drop-another-bombshell-ruling-after-roe-v-wade-1255492/?utm_campaign=bizpac&utm_content=Newsletter&utm_medium=Newsletter&utm_source=Get Response&utm_term=EMAIL This would strip the alphabet depts of making rules laws w/o congress ie the ATF, FBI and DHS.

They're not wrong, IMO. The qualifications are for accuracy and safety, not firearm handling proficiency. It's bad enough NJ is setting the bar so high, we don't need to proliferate that. Unless the law differentiates you carry how ever you want.
  11. 1 point
I did state that, and that was my thoughts exactly as I was thinking about this after speaking to them. It's a shame we have to somewhat tip toe through this, but we're not sure who's the ones who are going to be approving our stuff...
  12. 1 point
Good tell them you know and do it.....DONT rush...see what happens...we ALL WAITED THIS LONG....a few more weeks or so is not the end of the world.... It's your RIGHT, eff them.....they should be helping you NOT discouraging you.
  13. 1 point
It won’t disband them, but it WILL put a kibosh on their power to make shit up as they go along. This will probably be THE most impactful decision of our lifetimes.
  14. 1 point
He has 0 chance. Mainstream America doesn't vote for Anti-American Progressive Shitbags from NJ/NY/CA, etc. You can bank on that.
  15. 1 point
This would be a wonderful thing - Basically - disband the ATF and all the other alphabet boys!

Nothing is certain right now other than "they" revised the form. There's debate taking place as to whether or not "we" rush the stage now, or wait to see what comes of all of this in the coming weeks. Personally, I've got my up-to-date application filled out, references lined up and documentation printed. I don't feel comfortable submitting yet as I fear this:

Perhaps I missed it among the several threads. Does a current (pre-ruling) NJ carry permit have a particular firearm's make/model/serial number printed on it? A. If not, then the license is not married to a particular gun, and I'm not obligated to carry anything in particular. B. If yes, then I'd be limited to one and only one gun. Unless the license has provision for several. If I got a license as in A, I would probably qualify with any handgun I carried in NJ, regardless of what I qualified with for the license. Just to cover myself.

The requirement is that you submit qualification certs for the gun you INTEND to carry when you submit the application. Intention and the eventual act are not necessarily the same thing. If you want to switch guns, you should qualify with it before carry it, but there is no way you can do that before you know that you're switching guns.

I saw this earlier, and I wondered if the ATF has been holding off on the new rules specifically because of this case.

thanks man! i'm gonna fill those instead. nother question. i asked her about the pictures. i thought it'd be profile face other profile. she told me that they're all just face....head on. yes? no? that's why it was a struggle. cause i wanted to ask her how she felt about her co-workers all carrying every day around her.........

What ANYONE THINKS doesn't matter! What the RULES ARE matters. Nothing has substantially changed in the qualification process except now you need to score 80% in order to qualify (200 x 250). And you need to do it WITH THE GUN YOU'RE GOING TO CARRY! So, since there isn't a "Change Form", you'll have to qualify with your new, unpurchased & unregistered (and UNPRACTICED WITH) handgun. ~R

How stiff are those belts? I haven't had an issue with my Hank's Gunner belt with lining up.

NJ has always allowed non residents to get an FID and Permit to Carry. They just need to follow the same procedures as residents. Obviously, they will need to get the FID before they can apply for a Permit to Carry, just like us.

Moved to general discussion. ANJRPC just sent out an email blast this AM...

Since MOST incidents where carrying has stopped a crime don't involve a single shot being fired, carrying is more important than what you carry.

Well, I pulled the trigger, ordered an IWB Holster, OWB Paddle holster, and a IWB mag holder from legacy firearms. They are expensive but they have good reviews on youtube and they were the only company that I have been able to find to have exactly what I needed, with a 30 business day turnaround. They also started their July 4th sale, 17.76% off all orders.

On top of that, I am pretty sure the Judges will want to remove themselves from the approval process altogether (a combo of: they are redundant now, there is a shortage of judges, volume of permits coming in plus the 2 year backlog of evictions they need to address first because of corona) and that would change things as well.

My plan is to wait too. I leave for Florida in November and won't be back until March. I'll still watch this forum and the State Police page to see what required. When we have something concrete than I plan to move forward.

It all depends on how much you want to shoot. RTSP for me as I shoot once every 2 weeks sometimes more. If your a once a mounth person it might not be worth it. My co-worker is a memeber at cherry ridge and invited me. I can't wait to give it a go.

While a 22 pistol is not ideal for self defense, if it's the only cartridge one can put all 10 in the x-ring, it's the best choice for that individual. No point in flailing around with a 357 magnum if the shooter can't hit the broad side of a barn from inside the barn. Biggest drawback is winter and meth addicts. Some people I know from another forum carry 22lr and 22mag, and they are okay with their choice. They know it wont "blow the lungs out of the body" but are confident it will stop most carjackings or assaults. After all, stopping the threat is the objective. One uses a Ruger revolver (I forget which) with a bobbed hammer, the other two carry Ruger's SR22 because it feels full size. Ammo choice makes a big difference. Paul Harrell did a few videos on the topic.

I heard NJSP is changing the app, they're no longer accepting the old one, and the new one will be out un two weeks...not sure how accurate that report was... As for municipal codes you can Google and get a list of all the codes for NJ.

I've always used 1 or 2, as some of my instructors live in PA. Once I used the FBI course of fire. They are all similar. It is better to saturate them with your skill level than to use the minimum and have to convince them that it is acceptable. Hopefully, all of the available official resources make it clear to PD's and judges what is acceptable. Right now it is very subjective.

https://www.federalpremium.com/rimfire/personal-defense-punch-rimfire/11-PD22L1.html This is probably the best 22lr defensive round I have seen so far. Not sure of the guns, I've never looked for a conceal carry 22lr so not entirely sure what is out there. As with most 22s though, reliability is heavily tied to the ammo used... -Jim

I second East Bangor. It's not fancy but the price can't be beat.

I wouldn't go with a .22LR for CCW unless it's absolutely last ditch effort... but still better than nothing. That being said - there is a Walther PPK .22LR - small and concealable.

The NJ CCW code has been broken! New page with directions, information, instructions, questions & answers, with class registration is now being built. Stay tuned and pre-register here for alerts. No questions now please it will delay the page! https://gunforhire.com/nj-ccw-permit/

well when i walk in there tomorrow, i'll have my cell phone recording. no video, just audio. just in case. 'cept for slow-walking a couple of my p2p's(and i'm not totally sure that was a deliberate thing as i know they were shorthanded at the time) they've generally been pretty straightforward with me concerning my firearms.....
  44. 1 point
Because the issue today is only the price. In the 70's we intermittently couldn't get ANY gas at all, at any price. That's when things got really ugly. Pulling into your friend's gas station under cover of darkness, etc.

I wouldn't trust anything from a regime where they tell you that you cannot stop and go to the bathroom when 'going to and from the range.'
  46. 1 point
They’ll do what they do now. Avoid doing it at all.

I'm a member at both GFH and CR, and I love them both. (Unlike with women, you don't have to pick only one.) The latter only costs $130 a year for my senior membership. There are no daily charges, so you can shoot there as long as you want, until you run out of time or ammo. My gold level membership at GFH is four times that, but it's a great range, the people are terrific, and it's comfortable when it's really cold outside. If you don't want to plunk down that kind of dough, you could just go and pay the daily fee, which I believe is $25 an hour for the 25 yard range, and a bit more for the 50.

I've been to Gun For Hire a few times. Gun For Hire is great: knowledgeable, courteous staff, comfortable lanes, and many interesting classes if you're into that. I don't have a membership because it's just too expensive especially to STILL pay range fees afterwards, so I just pay for the rental if I go. I'm considering a membership at Reloaderz because you can get as many 2 hour blocks as you want for a $50/month membership. It's very comparable to Gun for Hire. Indoor ranges work well for me since I can just duck in for an hour during the week. I heard many good things about Cherry Ridge. I've thought about it but it's twice as far from me so I haven't tried it yet. It has a lot to offer.
  49. 1 point
RTSP does not have additional cost when you attend the range once you are a member. The limit your times to blocks of one hour but if it isn’t crowded you can ask for another. The do charge you for guest, with the membership they give you five free passes for guests after that they pay as a walk in

Sooner or later I think we're going to face the fact that it's not just mass shooters, drug addicts, homeless people etc. that are the carriers of mental illness. There's a lot of disturbed or full blown mental cases walking around surrounded by seemingly normal circumstances. But they are off. And some of them are in government trying to rule the rest of us.
