US Lawshield covers legal representation if you are charged with a weapon related crime. They are not an attorney on retainer for anything else. If you want a lawyer on retainer, retain a lawyer.

In my OPINION, if this even happened as stated, it was because this gentleman already had an investigative file on him with the county PO that contained questionable information --- in my OPINION, there is no way any county PO in NJ has the time and/or resources to do a deep dive like this for several hundred applicants in 30-35 days.

This is beyond infuriating. If you want to protect residents from gun violence, let us protect ourselves from the criminals perpetuating the violence. I would love to see statistics of legal gun owners committing crimes vs criminals/felons committing crimes with firearms. Or show me cases where someone with a carry permit in NJ committed a crime with their firearm. How many NJ residents have to get gunned downed for their car, or their watch, or xyz before they finally acknowledge who is committing the gun crime in this state. I wish there was a way to meet with these law makers and have rational discussion about their point of view and the citizens point of view. Part of me wants to believe they are being sincere in trying to protect people, and are scared to waiver from their beliefs, as opposed to a power hungry government trying to subdue the public. Maybe that's just wishful thinking. Idk. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, just have to vent my frustration. How don't they get that criminals would think twice or thrice about pulling a gun out on public transportation if they assumed there could several armed citizens on that bus or train. God help NJ.

Former NJ Gov. Jim Florio, Dead at 85. I recall a political cartoon in the newspapers (I forget the artist), but it's a picture of Sadam Hussein. In the first frame, he's standing all Narcissistic in front of a mirror: And in the second frame, you see him totally pissed off and yelling in a phone....

No, he retired earlier this year. Sgt. Fedge took his place, and by all accounts is very competent and diligent.

So given that I applied in early July, and expect my permit sometime this week, I guess I should start my renewal process in approximately 20 months to maintain continuous coverage.

He's gone. They have someone else now. He's great though. Got my last PPP in three weeks which is warp speed for NJSP.

Yes, that's it. 'Sussex Station' is otherwise known as the 'Augusta Barracks'. It's my American accent.
  10. 2 points
If you'd let me know, I could have run over to Augusta for you. "My name is Stu. How do you do? Where's my permit?" Actually, they probably traced to your old address. The all-seeing, all-knowing NJSP.

Another update: NJSP FIU received my permit from the court on Sept 16 and put it in the NJSP inter-office mail to NJSP Washington Station the same day. It still isn't there. I asked the trooper that answered the phone to see if she could call around and see where the heck it had got to which she agreed to do. While she was doing that, I reached out the the Detective Sgt. at the FIU that I had spoken with previously to see if there was anything he could do. The Det. Sgt. texted me back after a few hours to let me know that he had traced my permit to NJSP Sussex! Flipping Sussex! He is getting a trooper to drive it back down to Washington so hopefully I'll have it in my hand in the next day or two.

Never forget to mention that 100% of all school shootings occur in gun-free zones. The shooters know just where to go.

" Your Legal Service Contract also covers "Any incident where the Legal Service Contract Holder is criminally charged with a violation of N.J.S. 2C:39—3 or N.J.S. 2C:39—5 involving a firearm, weapon, ammunition or large capacity magazine …" In other words, we cover criminal charges where it is alleged that you illegally possess firearms, ammo, or large capacity magazines. This is critical coverage every New Jersey gun owner needs." Nappen asked them to include this as a condition of him signing on.

Did you read the story? The prosecutor already knew about the post because it was the cause of a complaint and investigation when it happened. I don't think anybody is going through Facebook logs to see if anybody is a repeat visitor to FB jail.

Troop B Sussex is in Augusta. Sussex Station U.S. Route 206 Box 130 Augusta, NJ 07822
  20. 1 point
He said it was at Sussex Station, not Augusta. The NJSP inter-office mail system is a joke - they even call it the "pony express" themselves. It works by whatever trooper is heading roughly the right direction to carry the mail to the next nearest Station or Barracks. When the Trooper from Washington called around she was told that there was "a lot of mail" for Washington at the Totowa Barracks. Maybe it's just me and my luck. Before FARS, there were 2 separate sets of PtPP about a year apart that both went missing between the FIU and Washington. Maybe Sussex has a room full of mail that they can barely shut the door to any more. ETA: Whenever I have had to deal with the FIU they have been great. They promptly re-issued the PtPP that went missing both times and sent them via USPS. This time around, the DSFC there has been great too.

As screwed up as that whole possibly intentional mixup was, you've at least gotten what few people have ever gotten, a NJ Carry Permit. Hopefully you will have it in the next day or two. Congrats!

Some of their attorneys (like Napan) are also on retainer to ANJRPC...I am not sure if they are being retained by LawShield to fight the carry issues we are dealing with or any crazy gun laws we deal with in NJ. Alternative l am (sure) they are retained by ANJRPC to fight the carry issues. As others stated, LawShield cover SD events and equipment issues. I do not think they have a mission to correct bad carry laws explicit to NJ. As such, Napen wears two hates one for LS and one for ANJRPC. Of course there are synergies here which he can leverage. ANJRPC is the best proponent we have here, not the NRA, and not LS, imo. Although I am a member of all 3, all my add--on donations go to ANJRPC - they are vital to our survival long-term as gun owners in NJ. Still I joined LS a few weeks ago (in essence they are on "retainer" to their members for SD/equipment charges), I reasoned, for 130$ a year I think it is foolish not to.

Did that quote originate with the Illinois Attorney General, before being picked up by the NJ OAG? Because here is how well Illinois is doing in their effort to "Protect our residents from the scourge of gun violence." 448 homicides in Chicago, 2352 people shot so far this year.

Burlington County Update: Had everythng completed and Police sent in packet (They were awesome in dealing with this process) on Monday the 22nd of August. Just got contacted by my Police Department yesterday the 26th of September to update me on my permit process. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Judge contacted the Police Department and requested actual finger prints and actual criminal history report (if any). My Police Department has request in to State Police on how to handle since they cannot send sensitive stuff like that through the mail. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I guess the police doing a background investigation and the prosecutor doing the same is not good enough for the Judge? My record is clean as the driven snow so I have no worries but the checking, double checking and the triple checking is a bit too much guys and gals! The STATE of New Jersey needs to look at Florida or Utah's process and increase it from a 2 year permit to 5 year permit. This is such a waste of time, money and effort for everyone. (But that's the plan, isn't it?) SEMPER FI!

The amount of stuff I see posted on FB, I wonder how people don’t get in trouble for it. In today’s world if you aren’t comfortable with a post being up on a billboard, don’t put them on social media. Better to keep your mouth shut, your job, life and your guns than exercise “free speech” on Zuckerberg’s private property.

Sussex approved a batch including mine. They’ve been sent to various PDs. Unlike Mr Stu’s they actually sent direct to the Barracks and not to FIU. Cautiously optimistic. Next to get permit and order in hand to see if it has any of the restrictions.

The instructor at my CCW class told us about a guy in the next county over from us who was involved in a self defense shooting. He said the legal costs just at the grand jury exceeded $100K. US Lawshield picked up every penny, and the the CCW’r was not indicted.

Just to clarify and help in ammo selection, this is from the NJSP website (in the FAQ section). I’m not a police officer, are hollow points legal for me to possess? Yes. They are legal for purchase and possess in your home or on land owned by you. They are legal to possess and use at a gun range. They are also legal to possess while traveling to and from such places. Ammunition lacking a hollow cavity at the tip, such as those with a polymer filling, are not considered to be hollow point ammunition. An example of this can be seen with the Hornady Critical Defense / Critical Duty, Cor-Bon PowRball / Glaser Safety Slug and Nosler Inc. Defense ammunition.

Agree with this point. IMO, the "average" gun owner has a pistol or two that sits in the back of a closet collecting dust. Once a year (or less) they get the bug to shoot so they dust off the gun, buy some ammo and head to the range. When they get home the gun returns to the back of the closet (without being cleaned) until next year. I don't feel safe shooting next to these guys at the range as shooting is always a novelty to them. For what it's worth, even guys who consider themselves "regular" shooters only go to the range a 2 or 3 times more than the "average" guy. They may have more guns (an AR, shotgun, etc) so they spend a little longer at the range and shoot different guns, but still shoot infrequently. From there you get the more serious "gun guys" who go to the range on a weekly (or a few times a month) basis and probably have experience in club or formal matches. So where does that leave us? Like everything else in life, the more you practice and do something, the more proficient you'll become. That means cops who are "gun guys" and regular citizens who are "gun guys" will be the best shooters. The "average" and "regular" shooters have cop and regular citizens in their population as well, and they will shoot accordingly. I'll qualify my VERY over-simplified rating system by saying it relates only to shooting a gun (accuracy, timing, reloading, moving, etc, etc). I won't get into the combat mindset portion of the debate as I think there are likely buckets for that as well that both civilian and cops would fall into. Going through, or not going through a police academy may not be the best measuring stick for a warrior mindset, but that discussion will stray in a LOT of different directions...

An extra inch or two is about right. It will be effected by holster used, weapon carried, and carry position. Best is to get a holster for what you will carry, and try it out in different positions, then you will know better how much extra room you will need. Carry around your house regularly, with a loaded mag. I wouldn't suggest one in the pipe at first, it's mainly to get used to the weight and if that carry position will work for you. Do everything you would normally do. You will also get a good idea how your clothing choices will work or not Get used to it to the point you no longer think about it. When you finally go out into the real world, remember no one knows it is there, no one is looking at you funny, by now you should have it in your ideal position, and you are past the touching and adjusting phase.
