Gentlemen, although I enjoy discussing carry ammo, I hardly think that is the point of this thread. We have already had several complaints about off-topic discussions making it hard for people just coming on to follow the pertinent information of the intent of this thread, as well as the Moderator weighing in as such....Usually I am not a party pooper :-) in this regard but with a 103 "pages" and no end in sight I think it makes sense on this thread especially. You can always start a "Carry-Ammo-in-NJ" thread right "next door" which I think many will be interested in including myself.

This is false. The subcompact Glocks (G26/G27 size) are inherently the most mechanically accurate pistols Glock makes - even with OEM barrels. You do not need a “marksman” barrel to get hits at 25 yards. You need to get training and practice. Short sights and short barrels don’t matter out to 25 yrds regardless of the gun. It’s the software, not the hardware.

Because in Connecticut, it's time to rumble: Gun owners, rights groups challenge Connecticut firearms ban (yahoo.com) Is this the first Federal post-Bruen suit filed?

One of my guns I qualified with was a Seecamp 380 mouse gun with a 2” barrel out to 25 yards. Passed with an 88%.

I asked the court and they said they mailed it directly to the Sussex barracks.

Total nonsense. I qualified at TTC last Sunday, and it was a piece of cake. It is NOT the police qualification, and only goes out to 15 yards. We had 16 people in our group, and one person failed. He failed because he did not know how to operate his pistol. They did the qualifications in two groups of eight people. The guy next to me lost count of his rounds and only shot 38 of 50. They let him go in the 2nd group and he passed, no problem. The staff at TTC is fantastic, and extremely supportive.

On the other hand, if you shoot much at all it’s pretty easy to pass the full HQC1 course. Even with a 3” bbl pistol. I’m not saying it should be a requirement, just that it’s not much of a barrier.

Ok - I'm fine with that - however if they stopped approving after the one they go Yellow until we get confirmation that the county court is moving forward again - just like Warren... Just because they get a stack of apps delivered doesn't mean they're approving

They missed the other part of that story. "In one of his first official acts, U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis voted against a bill to provide $9.7 billion in flood insurance aid for Hurricane Sandy victims. "The problem with the Sandy package was, if you look at it, only 30 percent of it was going to be spent in the first two years," DeSantis said in an interview recently at his St. Augustine office. "It actually appropriated money out to 2020 and 2021, things that could not in any way be said to be emergency spending. It just was so much extraneous stuff." "If a hurricane came here, I would want any relief plan to be fiscally responsible," he said. " would not want to add extra things and say that because this is a vehicle that's moving, let's try to Christmas tree it out."

What extensive testing are you referring? Critical duty/ defense is designed specifically with the shortcomings of traditional hollow points in mind. It's not the best expanding, but it also won't overpenetrate. There is no bad or good defensive round depending on the application/situation.

IMO putting a number on a carry permit is different than creating a registry (and providing a registry card) at point of sale. Removing the requirement to specifically list the guns on the carry permit can be challenged and overturned in court. Once you start with a registry at point of sale it will never go away.

I would qualify that with someone who practices at 25 yards or thereabouts. If they only ever practice at 7 yards, maybe not so much.

My take on carrying a 22. If that's all one could handle that's what you carry. End of story. If you look at the Lucky Gunner ammo tests there's really little difference in penetration between 22lr, 22mag, and 25acp. I'd pick a solid, probably a CCI Mini Mag, for better penetration. The CCI ammo runs well in all my semiautomatics. A revolver makes sense but if I'm carrying a j frame size revolver it's in 38 spl most of the time. Other times it's a 32 long or a 327 mag loaded with 32 H&R magnum. Both have adequate penetration. 327s have way too much penetration even in a 2". If I'm carrying a 22 rf or 25 auto it's usually a backup to my main battery. Stopping power is limited with a 22 or 25. Tactically, you need to shoot your opponent until they go down. 4,5,6 times if needed. Not an IPSC double tap. You may have to shoot a bag guy 4,5,6 times even with a 9mm, 40, or 45. Another problem with small guns is bad guys sometimes don't believe they're real guns. I know of an instance where the bad guy pulled a knife on an undercover. There was some distance between them. The undercover pulled a 25 auto. The bad guy didn't believe it was a real gun until the U/C cranked a round into the sofa. The bad guy dropped his knife. Nobody wants to get shot, even with a 25. FWIW

Take a closer look at the critical defense/duty, they have the scoring in the jacket and part of the lead core removed at the nose. I'm not saying they have, I'm saying they "may", based on its configuration. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/95/78/1b/95781b2c9668bd9c26792fb0583f6b39.jpg NJSP don't offer official "legal advice", either. While they say HCD is not hollow point, they don't say it's NOT a dum dum.
  46. 1 point
Dum dums by definition are bullets that expand. I dont see frangible bullets meeting that criteria. NJ doesn't differentiate between who made the cartridge, so manufactured or reloaded shouldn't have a legal impact with this regard. I would stick with ball ammo, any bullet like Hornady Critical Defense, while not hollow point could be considered a dum dum.
  47. 1 point
I think the accuracy ‘issue’ many people talk about with bullpup rifles has more to do with poor triggers than anything else. Kind of the trade off you get it’s bull pups. In many cases, the crap trigger pulls can be remedied with aftermarket parts.

No, value is what I mean - quality is a part of value, and quality generally plays directly into cost, but not necessarily into needs/requirements. I can “reasonably afford” a Knights Armament AR - super high quality, super high price. Should I get one? It can’t do anything I currently need an AR to do any better than my LaRue, Colt, BCM, ADM, or home built guns. I get more value from a $1500 BCM than a $3000 KA if they both meet my minimum requirements. The “higher” quality and commensurate price increase of the KA is now working against my best value and preventing me for meeting other needs with that extra cost - such as ammo, accessories, and training. Value is subjective - someone else may need the increased capabilities/quality of that KA gun, where I do not. Value is the best market price for the highest quality of the item that fits your needs the best. If it doesn’t fit your needs, the quality doesn’t matter, and the item is valueless. If the quality is greater than your needs, than the extra cost is wasteful. I use their stripped lowers on a couple carbines. Cost the same as Anderson when I got them, but the quality is way better. The older Stag stuff was ok, before they got smacked for making unserialized machine guns…

Thanks! Ordered a case! Preparing for a fight with my wife now! I am paying 3X what I paid just a few years ago from SGA! Small boxes that weigh 40 lbs are a dead giveaway! (She thinks I have enough ammo already)

Stories like that are extremely common (see the NRA or USCCA magazines), but they do not fit the MSM agenda, so we rarely hear about them.
