The NJ press is reporting a road rage shooting in Somerset County. Links: https://newjersey.news12.com/road-rage-incident-over-lane-change-leads-to-attempted-murder-charge-for-somerset-man https://www.nj.com/somerset/2023/05/road-raging-nj-driver-fired-2-shots-at-car-while-trying-to-merge-cops-say.html If the facts are as is being reported...God, I pray that this guy is NOT a concealed carry permit holder. But because the charges do not include the whole laundry list that usually applies to an illegally possessed gun, I'm a little worried.

I suspect this guy is not a concealed carry permit holder; if he was Papa Smurphy would have had all media outlets carpet bombing the state with alarmist nonsense about the dangers posed by legal gun owners.

An in person interview was one of the things added in A4769. They also wanted the references to submit to an in person interview too, but Judge Bumb enjoined that last week. Depending on your town, it may be a formality, or an opportunity to try to deny you. I went through a denial pre-Bruen and had to answer questions in court from the Prosecutor. Be wary of questions like "If someone tried to carjack you, would you shoot them?" The most acceptable answer would be that you would attempt to escape by driving away first. If they press you, state that the use of deadly force is the last resort and so long as you and anyone else in the car can exit safely, you would let them steal your car. If you had a small child strapped in the back seat, that is likely not going to be an option. Deadly force is allowed to protect another from kidnapping. Otherwise listen to the questions carefully and be honest in your answers. Answer only the question asked. Do not elaborate.

Bill didn't pass the legislative process last year. Unless it's reintroduced AND passes the NJ Legislature AND Murphy signs it it won't take effect ever.

... and that's problem #2: the majority believes you shouldn't even have those rights.

When I got my first Handgun permits and FPIC in Rutherford, the detectives actually came to my house. I called them in but they said just come out. They handed me my card. I suppose they really DO need to see who these permits are for. I have no problem with that. It is nice to meet some of these guys too. Everyone should. They dont do that anymore...and 3 weeks for a carry permit. Very professional.

True. However, the states still must abide by COTUS, which applies to all citizens of this country. Hence, the constitutional ‘bitch slapping’ many states are receiving recently, regarding overreaching gun laws.

Yup. This is an important distinction. The NJ Govt may not be doing what you think is right for your interests, but like it or not - the Gov we have here is the Gov that was elected by the majority of NJ residents. They are doing the work that the “majority”of NJ residents want done. You just happen to be in the minority in this state.

Ahhh ... and therein lies the problem. Unfortunately that "US" is not you, it's all your NJ neighbors who voted for Obama, Hillary, Biden, Murphy ...

That's because to them laws should be adjudicated on matters of feeling, not matters of fact.

To my knowledge, an interview is not required to get a CCW in NJ. I have never heard of anyone having to do that! What town is doing this?

My understanding is that it's sitting on the 2nd circuit court of appeals docket waiting for a hearing date to be scheduled. Supposedly it is "expedited", which means a hearing date could between 2 months up to a year away. You can follow case filings here: https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/66674530/antonyuk-v-hochul/?filed_after=&filed_before=&entry_gte=&entry_lte=&order_by=desc

Okay IANAL but I can read. C1 in the statute says securely fastened container or locked in the trunk for transport. No container required if in locked trunk C2 says storage of gun and ammo.in a locked box in vehicle. Says that. Doesn't say separate locked boxes. A prosecutor can't make up.stuff the statute doesn't say. The following paragraphs talk about transporting in a locked box if your in the parking area of a sensitive location. IIRC the "loaded magazine" being considered a firearm originated in CA 15-20 years ago. The statute at the time said if there was ammunition in any part of the gun it was considered loaded. This covered if you had a gun with a box or tube magazine and an empty chamber you had a loaded firearm. Someone was arrested as they had an unloaded gun and a loaded magazine and was arrested for carrying "a loaded firearm". This went no where and was promptly dismissed. Absent a statutory definition the way to disprove a loaded magazine is ask any firearms instructor is a gun, empty chamber, and loaded magazine is loaded. Their answer would be yes. Remove the loaded magazine. Show the chamber clear and the gun is unloaded. Attorneys will be extremely cautious giving advice. That's why they say don't transport loaded magazines. If you were to ask them how you can be assured of not being charged with a malum prohibitum gun law the most honest answer would be "don't own guns".

ok. so what i did, seeing as i can't just walk into a store and try things on like in the old days.......i ordered vertx, 5.11, and la police gear jeans. i have cargo pants from 5.11 and la police gear. the 5.11's were my work pants at the shop for nearly 10 years. and they took the beating with ease. i still own all of those. i've been using a couple pairs of lapg cargo pants for casual wear. again, they take a bit of a beating. i have zero experience with vertx. i figure whichever ones feel the most comfortable i'll keep, and send the other 2 back.

"""""""""""""""""The victim then reported the incident to Franklin Township Police, who identified Chapman with help from Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Franklin Resident Field Office.""""""""""" he was known to them. i don't see them having "found" him so fast if he wasn't......

These assholes will never get the fact that THEY work for US. The "government" as they call themselves doesn't own shit. It ALL belongs to US...not them. Trying to pass unconstitutional laws got people tarred and feathered in the not so distant past. They should be careful . I know Judge Bumb has read their appeal and noted how many times she "erred" in her decisions. I am sure that is sitting real well with her right now. Almost all of these district courts are ruling in favor of 2A rights but we are to believe that the STATE has the authority to overrule the district and Supreme courts? Good luck with that.

That's funny Harley Davidson is a dinosaur just waiting to blow it's last breath China. was a last ditch effort, completely managed to screw itself. budweiser will continue to suffer it's wokeness. Maybe Harley can make a rainbow model... I sold my Harley UltraGlide Classic in 2013, no regrets, as todays bikers look like a bunch of old men still thinking their 30 years old.

The thing that bothers me most about this litigation is that no-one is challenging the notion that vetted, law-abiding, permit holders are a danger to other members of the public. We are not. We carry for self defense against attacks from lawless, violent people. Some of us are also prepared to defend others from such people. Lawless, violent people are neither inclined or allowed to obtain permits. Yes, there are particularly vulnerable people who sometimes congregate in specific locations, but almost all also venture elsewhere. Why should they be deprived of protecting themselves, or being protected by others that are vetted, law-abiding permit holders just because they are in a group at a given location? NJ says there are dozens of "sensitive locations". If all these places are so sensitive, why does the State not deploy the same level of security as they do for their own legislative chambers and court houses? Clearly most of these places are not really that sensitive. This should be the test for whether a given place is really "sensitive". Is there historical precedent that the State found that it was necessary to deploy security measures to each one? One bug bear for me is the schools prohibition. I drop and pick up my kid at school daily due to the bus run going past their mother's house, not mine. There are cops guarding the school building and controlling entry to the building. There is no security for the grounds, driveway and parking areas. This is similar to the curtilage Judge Bumb called out around residential property. Why are we not allowed to carry during drop-off and pick-up? Even the Federal Gun Free Schools Act exempts carry permit holders.

When you buy armor you can pick two of the following: • Effective • Lightweight/Comfortable • Affordable
  29. 1 point
Following the Buffalo supermarket shooting, where the bad guys armor stopped some hits from a good guy early on in the fight, I predict legislation on body armor coming down sooner rather than later - if not nationally, at least regionally. If it is something you are interested in, now is the time.
