  1. ronover, I completely understand that you dont plan on getting more than one handgun, but here is the scenario... you go out and buy one... you dont like it, and want to sell it. you sell it, and want to buy something else.... need a permit. You put your handgun on consignment, and then want it back.... you need a permit. $2, even if you dont plan on using it, 6 months down the road is cheap insurance to have. As far as handguns, did you shoot the 40 yet? There are some 40's that have a higher kick than a 45, including many steel frame handguns. the kick out of a polymer 40 will be greater than that of a steel or full size 45. mostly, you just have to go out and shoot. personally, i like 357sig over 40. =P even better balistics... but lets put it this way... no matter if bad guy getting shot with 40, or 9mm, they are going to have a bad day anyway.
  2. then the 5seven will be good. did you get a chance to shoot wolfy's 357 sig xd?
  3. congrats on getting your butt to getting an FID and permits... I dont speak for everyone, but many will agree, go apply for more than 1 pistol permit. at $2 a pop, its cheap insurance.... and they are good for 6 months with extension. secondly, a carbine will not replace a pistol. if you want an xd, get an xd... dont be afraid to pick up a pre-owned firearm, you will get many good deals come across here, or one of our vendors. secondly, dont be afraid to look at a few prices, go to njgunforums.com and do the firearms quote request to see what you can get them for from our vendors. before buying something, shoot it. dont make that mistake of buying something, esp your first firearm because it looks cool, or felt good in the hand. unless you shot it, you dont know what feels good. =P, esp in a 40 cal.... which leads me to next suggestion... why 40 cal? yes, balistics are better than a 9mm, but have you ever shot a 40? it has a distinctive snappy pop, that turns off many people, including myself. I will have 3 9mm handguns, and then 45, had many opportunities to purchase 40's, but havent. In fact, there is only 1 40 cal I like.... and that is tbtrout's xd with a trigger job. Personally, I would suggest a 22lr and a 9mm. XD's are great because they come with extra mags. my 45gap came with 3 mags, for example. where are you located? come out next tuesday to brick armory, there will be a good turnout, and you are more than welcome to try lots of different firearms, both carbines, handguns, rifles, in various calibers. My suggestion would be a good cz75/85 or a used XD. you will be able to buy a carbine alot quicker and easier than a handgun.
  4. what optics did you get and where from? =P opticsplanet? =P
  5. tb hasnt used his mod buttons in over a month. =P we really are a well member moderated forum... and all grown up. lol.
  6. humn... 1911 of some sort, be it 45 or 9mm. desert eagle 44 mag can be very fun, only thing is... how much use will it actually get? a 22lr pistol is always great. the 5seven will be a niche caliber.... so unless you get something else, ie ps90, or the ar 5x7 upper, will be kind of pointless.

  9. there is nothing that enough duct tape cant solve. =P I remember two of my bastage coworkers duct taped my wallet shut...... now that I think back on it... it was kind of funny. they wasted almost half the roll of it.
  10. scott, just go request 5 more pistol permits.... its inevitable, you caught the handgun bug. lol.
  11. no... tiny was going.... and we decided last min to drop by and see what the hoopla was all about... got there, huge line, didnt really go for the menu, was walking back to car and saw tiny waiting at drive through.
  12. or stuck around for mediocre sonic burgers... =P
  13. Is fencingyour property out of the question? Get a very well trained dog.
  14. you are quite welcome Joe. but it is all of you that make it what it is. =) now get an NJGF tshirt, and bring others in.
  15. correct, there are no backers.... it is an open field. =) you can buy a target on a 2x4, or bring your own. I have one of those campaign sign backers, to which I tape paper targets, and then we also shoot water bottles, fruits, veggies, and fruits and veggies on water bottles.
  16. welcome to the forum... even though a ford owner. jk. =P welcome!
  17. lol, thanks, a few mins late... just got done order checks for the forum.
  18. It is 1 month as it was written into law back in the day, who knows when. just like it is the law that police officers must obey all traffic laws when not in pursuit. =P
  19. For those that still dont use bill pay, like myself, I prefer the hand written stuff, you probly ordered checks through banks or maybe even these guys. They are willing to support the forums with any check orders, business cards, or anything else that they offer. So if you use them, give them a shot, I have been buying my checks here past 8 years. I will also be posting some coupons here as well as they come in.
  20. exactly that... but then you have that firearm just sitting because you dont shoot it. From my brothers collection... Sig Pro 2022? 40sw Walther P99 40sw SW 686 Browning Buckmark camper XD 45gap all sat there, as most that he shot were his glocks, beretta's, and sigs.
  21. Some technology that should have completely died when DVDs were invented. Now that DVDs are about to die, hopefully they take CDs with 'em. All slow a** optical media is on the way out anyway. EVERYTHING new will be 100% digital flash/solid state of some sort in 10 years. The only reason the other still will be around to any extent is the millions of players still in cars. In the car it's primarily my Sat radio, next is the Ipod. I have some CDs with mp3s in the disc changer too, but don't use it much. Not to hijack this tread... but optical will have one thing that hard drives will not.... Sticks and stones may brake its bones... but magnets will never hurt it. I have thrown and tossed optical disks across the room, used them as coasters, and they still work, and will. solid state drives, or anything digital, will always be subject to vanishing if you have a bad surge that fries stuff, or your neighbor gets pissed off and wipes your computer with a strong magnet.
  22. audio books for me. =P
