  1. sounds like a failed "impossible turn" terrible all around. On the B17s, if one engine fails, shouldn't they have enough power to still take off and get to altitude? Or am I thinking too modern?
  2. And yet the Taurus G2C already holds 12. =) I don't have many contacts at Springfield but will try to get one. I suspect though in a few months, if that, these will be found with a fairly heavy discount as other Springfields, and as people realize there is more than a Sig 365.
  3. From airliners.net Press conference underway now. The B17 hit an ILS stanchion at the end of Runway 6 and veered into the de-ice area. (I live nearby. She flew over my place at maybe 200 feet AGL as she was trying to make the turn to a v
  4. Overweight possibly? Yikes... Do they even have flight data recorders on these? anything modernized in these or they all original steam gauges? Prayers for the families... certainly an all around crappy situation.
  5. Heh. I have no problem flying on older aircraft as long as we know that maintenance and inspections were done. I don't think there was a reason released yet, but likely pilot error? Or at least as a contributing factor. Reminds me, to check up on that transport crash in KS iirc a month or so ago.
  6. Saw it on airliners.net this morning and the news. Sorry about the loss. Was the friend of friend crew or just traveling as pax? Any ideas on cause of accident? equipment or pilot error? Possibly combination of both?
  7. Ugh, sorry, am not going to be able to make it. Woke up with a cold and just too much to drive today. Hope you guys have a good time!
  8. Very cool. Looks like some of the 1990's Smith & Wessons. I do not have much experience with STAR so cannot help further beyond saying... "Nice looking gun!"
  9. That is actually a Russian Kalashnikov. What he said was ... the parts started melting, only at the end, however the plastics retained their shape and durability very well while shooting. Only after did they start deforming. First failure point was the barrel, where he showed it. Bolt and receiver were still perfect. Barrel did droop. Gas piston and tube were still normal. The intro was... the gun was designed to fire up to 180 rounds at a time (full auto guns). Trying to get permission from Kalashnikov if I can do English commentary for it.
  10. As I said in the past, you are always welcome to come. =)
  11. Anyone here a content creator/video editor or knows of someone who wants to go to Shot Show in January? Planning a fairly aggressive coverage schedule and would love to have someone who can help out onsite. Someone comfortable editing in Adobe Premier, Sony Vegas or Davinci Resolve. Let me know.
  12. 12.5 is a carbine gas vs many of the shorter ones that are pistol. Mid is generally in the 14.5 range. Um... the performance may be good but this is BA... I would not be surprised if accuracy wise, this will be sub moa 5 shot as it is. Only thing not crazy about, it is a 5.56 profile vs a 223 wylde.
  13. First Tuesday meetup at Garden State Shooting Center.
  14. With 223 you have a few factors... Brass can easily effect velocities by a few hundred FPS depending on case volume. Same charge in lower case volume = higher pressure. Then yes... barrel size will make a difference too as a lot of the posted data is for 24" barrels. Then you also have to figure out if it is a new barrel or an broken in barrel. Beyond that... the powders you are using... are they temperature sensitive? If so, regular or inverse? You found a chrono?
  15. +1... Aim Surplus usually has some guns. They vary in condition depending on where they come from. Other store that usually has some is Kittery Trading Post in Kittery, ME.
  16. Define accuracy at 100 yards? And of course there is going to be a difference and bullet prices will be different. Compare bulk 223 55 gr and say eld match bullets.... Big big difference. But or course it does depend on what you are shooting... Benchrest, run and gun, etc. Different goals and priorities. But in all of those cases, at 100 yards the barrel and powder will make a big difference. But this is what load development is all about. I have guns that shoot regular fmj bt better than match bullets, without even going jntk sorting by weight.
  17. So browsing the threads, I am getting the idea to build one. Was on Ballistic Advantage and they have the 12.5" 5.56 NATO profile barrel on sale for $120.
  18. A2 is A2... and about $10... just figured would pin on something better. Yes, these do flow big flames... but unless you are shooting at night it is not a big deal during daytime. (yes if you are shooting an indoor range, BUT if you are shooting an AR-15 at an indoor range at 25 yards then I have other issues with you. ) Just the whole concept of pinning a brake right now is really silly to me just to save an inch and a half.
  19. Why not pin a good break or comp instead? Makes a real difference with the guns and even playing with SBRs and "other firearms" in the same size... the brake/comp makes a HUGE difference in follow up shots and even recoil. It's like building a nice car and putting on the cheapest tires. =P Looks great though otherwise. =)
  20. Ah. So is the flash hider unpinned on the on the Non-nfa?
  21. It came pinned? Barrel is 12.5"? + the flash hider?
  22. @ChrisJM981 LOVE the finish as it came out. For both of you guys... why put on a Flash Hider? You are spending money on the gun... spend a few dollars and put in something that will actually work, like a good compensator or brake. @EngineerJet I would remove that styrofoam looking piece which seems to "rigid up" the "Brace" to function as a stock. =P Just saying.
