  1. Thanks for all of your help. It's very encouraging having members like you around here for my beginner questions. Have a great day!
  2. Thanks again! So I changed my address online, but when I tried scheduling an appointment to get my physical license changed, they won't allow me to make an appointment because my ID isn't actually up for renewal until 2023. I won't be able to get the permit with only an address change form receipt, correct? Also, how long are the additional permits good for?
  3. Understood, thanks so much for the response. Will I have a get fingerprinted again for either or the guns? I recently from form a boro on the shore to Monmouth county. Not sure if that makes a difference in the fingerprinting/application process
  4. Hi, new firearm owner here. I obtained my first 92FS in 2019. I am now looking to obtain another pistol or 2. My uncle recently passed away and my aunt found his old Savage Arms Model 1907. She wants to give it to me. If I already went through the background checks/fingerprints/etc..., Do I need to do everything all over again from scratch to obtain this pistol? Also, I am looking at getting a 1911 as well. Is the process the same for this? Any help/tips are appreciated. Thanks!
  5. My uncle passed away recently. After going through his basement, my aunt found this. Would this be worth going through the permit process for myself to keep? She wants me to take it. I don't know much about this gun. Any info on it is appreciated!
  6. My uncle just unfortunately passed away and my aunt wants to give me his guns. He owned a shotgun, rifle, and a handgun. Not sure of exact models just yet. She said she doesn’t have any type of paperwork for them at all. Is it legal for me to take ownership? If so, what steps do I need to take?
  7. Thanks for all of the input guys. We opted to leave our handguns at home and still had a great time in the Catskills.
  8. A friend of mine has a cabin in upstate NY. We were both planning on bringing our handguns to the cabin this weekend to shoot. After reading up on NY gun law, it seems like it will be a criminal charge if I am caught traveling through NY state with a handgun. Does anyone have any experience with this and know the correct answer?
  9. Very cool. I lived about a 15 minute drive away from Mammoth. Spent a lot of time their when in middle/high school. Thanks for the advice. I have been around guns my entire life. Most of my uncles are collectors and my dad always had many different guns. I've always been a fan of the Beretta/1911's, so that's what I will stick with. But I am always open to options!
  10. Haha, I 100% agree! I've never been a part of any online gun forum. So most of these abbreviations, etc. are new to me
  11. What exactly is RKBA? I'm super new, so teach me like I'm 5
  12. Thanks Bob and Dirty for your responses. They are much appreciated!
  13. Good morning! Just wanted to introduce myself, hoping to become somewhat of a regular around these forums. I moved to NJ from KY about 5 years ago. I met my wife while in college in KY (she is from NJ), and moved back home with her once we graduated. Among many differences between the 2 states, the process of buying a gun was pretty time consuming. My family here in NJ also can't really understand why i'd ever want to be a gun owner. Not that I need their approval for anything (my wife is thankfully all for owning guns in the home), but it's just another big difference. I have now claimed my Firearms Purchaser ID card and purchased a Beretta 92FS. Now looking to add a 1911 to my inventory and hopefully many more in the future. I joined these forums so that I can become more familiar with gun laws within the state. If anyone has a place for me to start, by all means let me know. Thanks for reading!
