  1. It's tough to break away for Sunday mornings, so likely not. I could try to convince my wife for us all to go together, but the kids are too small to keep track of.
  2. Speaking as someone who counts to three at every stop sign... .... I'm just going to take off my brace and enjoy other guns until this either gets resolved or I get bored enough to get a new upper. That said, I joined FPC and donated. It can't do harm.
  3. Maybe pedantic; for me the NJ FARS email usually comes at least a day after the approval date.
  4. More accurately the notification is once they've been released through FARS. It's possible it can be "approved" some days before they push the button. It is mildly irritating. But it will include the number of permits and at least the first 90 day expiration time. (It might have the full 180 day end date as well).
  5. A little toilet humor to start the weekend:
  6. https://ag.ny.gov/press-release/2023/attorney-general-james-sues-gun-accessory-manufacturer-aiding-buffalo-shooter Further down the article: So, apparently if criminals use power tools to deface or alter the gun, it's the gun and accessory manufacturer's fault. Do these people realize that... A) guns need to come apart for a variety of reasons and B) criminals deface their guns all the time...? Perhaps not. Obviously anything less than indestructible is criminal negligence. Coming soon: lawsuits over allowing illegal SBR conversions using a hacksaw. If anything this just shows how ultimately pointless NY's laws are.
  7. Looking to improve the quality of my range-time videos. I enjoy sharing my range experiences with my father-in-law and a few friends. Anyone have ideas that are safe and halfway decent? Sometimes I prop up my phone on whatever paneling is available, but it doesn't always get the best angle. Sometimes it falls over after a shot, which is kind of hilarious. Using the slow-mo on my phone is very interesting. Got a great muzzle/cylinder flare from a revolver that way.
  8. It's kind of funny, but honestly it's not the last gun of mine I'd grab for defense. I'm very tempted by the original-ish stock/holsters.
  9. So if anyone's curious: the answer is no, the gun is fine. In fact, it's a surprisingly good shooter for something 100 years old. I was nervous that the upper would jab hard into my shooting hand or even fly off the frame. It does have a noticeable sting, and at some point I might get a gunsmith to add a little material to make it tighter. Overall, love it.
  10. Honestly it's a bizarre cognitive dissonance that they've internalized. They simultaneously push "the US is a violent hellhole where you could be the victim of gun violence at any moment." and "you don't need a gun for protection. What are you afraid of?" Also the ridiculousness of "hunting rifles" vs "assault weapons." People genuinely believe that some guns are suitable for sport, while some guns have no purpose for killing. Spoiler: something that can kill an animal much larger than a human, can kill humans.
  11. May the 4th be with you all!
  12. Hey Folks, So, I recently found a nice (restored/repaired) C96 Broomhandle. Anyone here very familiar with them? Overall seems in good condition, but I notice some slight play with the upper relative to the grip. Anyone know if this is an issue or is it fine to shoot? Here is a video.
  13. That's... interesting. They're really branching out. Considering they also have a 9mm PCC, it would entice me more if it had a 9mm cylinder. Eg. https://ruger.com/products/newModelBlackhawkConvertible/models.html
  14. Curious if anyone actually has one of these and what you think of it? Kind of tempted to get one in 410/45LC but seems too expensive to own and shoot... They sure are cool looking. https://www.davide-pedersoli.com/en/products/pedersoli-howdah
  15. Hey all, So, not to let permits go to waste... any thoughts or leads on compliant pistols in the style of ARs, AKs or subguns? Even fixed mag is fine. Curious to find an interesting indoor range toy that doesn't have to be overly practical. Just not sure where to look...
  16. Just an update if anyone's curious (especially since the new colors are around). The first time I shot this thing, the DA trigger stopped working. I sent it in and got it back within 3-4 weeks. After about 150 rounds, it's still working fine and hasn't had any cycling or trigger issues. Mostly using CCI Mini Mags. Very fun shooter! Somehow I'm more accurate with DA than SA.
  17. I believe we have until May 31st (Jan 31 + 120 days). At this point, there is no other option than to become compliant. Even if this gets struck down, it will likely take longer than the time we have left. For an AR-style "other", your quickest option is to just take off the brace and run a bare buffer tube. You may see some products and schemes in this thread to have something shoulder-able that is still compliant, but I personally am not willing to be the guinea pig. Otherwise, you can always convert it to a full rifle with a compliant barrel and stock. But once a rifle, always a rifle. I'm just going to take off my brace for now.
  18. https://abcnews.go.com/US/new-mexico-officers-kill-homeowner-exchange-gunfire-responding/story?id=98426959 When I first saw this story, it took me a while to learn that fact. The police didn't go Rambo on the wrong house. It's very sad and extremely preventable. Massad Ayoob has some clear words on what to do when someone knocks on your door in the middle of the night:
  19. What really bugs me is how much people have internalized the grief, fear and despair. They've driven people so far that they think anyone that doesn't support "common sense gun control" or "assault weapons bans" just simply don't care about children. "We have to do SOMETHING! But NRA/GOP/etc. don't care about children!" And it's absolutely disgusting because "assault weapons" are such an inconsequential target. But it's not something they want to hear. When people are stricken by pain and anger, they're not exactly open to new information.
  20. So what happens if a lay person tries to educate themselves on what assault weapons actually are? I searched "are assault weapons really dangerous". All emphasis here is from the Google search itself.
  21. That is genius. I wish my shop did that... Awesome, congrats and enjoy! The most important thing is it has the HK slap.
  22. This is a fun gun, but just be aware you cannot fully field strip it because the faux suppressor is pinned and welded to the (extremely thin) barrel. You will have to use a bore snake or pull cord to clean it. It has taken every brand of 22LR I have thrown at it.
