  1. That's a good point. I don't know anything about pot so my thoughts come from naïve wishful thinking. I do have a problem with laws that can't be objectively enforced.
  2. It doesn't apply to me but in general it makes sense so long as any law dealing with intoxication still holds. Just like people can own alcohol and cars, but not use them at the same time.
  3. Technically, couldn't the judge still say if the person needs to surrender their weapons or barre them from buying more? I think that would make sense.
  4. Well, nothing else caught my eye so I decided to add a bobcat to the collection. It's prettier in person than I expected. It has a clean finish and the grips are kind of gorgeous. It's also smaller than a PPK, but the PPK has a vastly superior trigger. I mean, it's not even close. It's kind of surprising how heavy this trigger feels! But it's ok, I'm hoping this will be a fun pew-pewer, especially with one hand.
  5. So for something like this you'd get a cheek weld as if it were a stock. I'd probably want a sling to be able to counter the recoil. Personally, I don't want something that will tear my face if I use it wrong. But yes, this is the lowest-cost stay-out-of-jail card.
  6. Anyone have a link to this new bill? Is their definition of 'assault weapon' any different?
  7. This is absolutely the first thing that came to mind for me. It already takes time as is to approve NFA items. There's nothing preventing them from sitting on it until you're out of compliance. This is also happening with yet another resurrection of the federal AWB. What's an assault weapon this time? Preview: the Monterey Park shooter used an "assault pistol."
  8. Even if they did, the assault weapons ban would still apply as if it were a full-length rifle, right? So that adjustable "brace" and flash hider are suddenly a big problem.
  9. At the very least, wait until this thing is "published in the federal register." No need to rush yet. I, too, spent about that much on my other. I'm not looking forward to paying $300-600 just to make the ATF happy, but it is what it is. I wish I shot it more.
  10. It's scary and impressive how good kids can be at getting into where they're not supposed to. Once something gets their interest, they're relentless. This is why I am extremely strict about putting things in secure places, be it guns or mundane things like frying pans , kitchen knives, etc.
  11. I noticed that many "others" manufacturers/distributors have taken down their "other" listings. I reached out to my manufacturer (ACI) as well and they told me to check later. I'm sure people are still combing for all possible options.
  12. New Colors! https://www.beretta.com/en-us/21-a-bobcat-ghost-buster/ https://www.beretta.com/en-us/21-a-bobcat-silver-black-gorilla/ https://www.beretta.com/en-us/21-a-bobcat-kale-slushy/ I was considering checking out the 21A Covert at the nearest shop but they're selling for ~$650 which is a lot even with the $75 rebate this month. Maybe I'll wait for the ghosts to proliferate.
  13. This is the dilemma with the self-enforcement that comes with these rules. Most likely no one will know or care, but what happens if the walls are indeed listening?
  14. I was hoping to reuse as much existing as possible. I am naïve to the topic, and assumed that changing the barrel would be cheaper than an entire upper. I am happy to be proven wrong. I guess I need to research more specifics about my build... Well, it's a 13.5" barrel including the existing muzzle break. Sounds like a huge muzzle break, if it exists. Maybe at this point I may as well get the benefit of a longer barrel anyway.
  15. Just to be prepared, I thought I would stir up discussion about making our others compliant. I'm relatively new to owning guns and never "built" an AR before. For the purposes of making an "other" a rifle, is it literally just dropping in a 16"+ barrel and a fixed stock? Are all uppers and AR-15 barrels—assuming the same chambering—universally compatible? Is it something that takes a gunsmith and/or special tools or can it be easily done at home?
  16. It could take more time than we have to comply. Personally, I'll wait to see what happens for as long as we can before plopping down hundreds more just to be compliant. Plenty of arguments to make. I'm just taking comfort in knowing that either way there is a lawful path forward. It's not impossible for them to retrieve the "Certificate of Eligibility" carbon copies for long gun transfers from local dealers.
  17. Yes, they've essentially changed their mind and trashed any objective criterion. They made it as vague as possible to not allow loopholes like the AR others. Honestly it would simplify everything to just take SBRs out of the NFA.
  18. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if they start knocking on people's doors. Even well before the 120 days are through.
  19. For some context: In NJ, illegal possession of a a firearm: 3-5 years in prison. Illegal possession of an NFA item: up to 10 years in prison. Possession of fentanyl: up to 5 years in prison and/or $35,000 fine. Owning a pistol brace makes you worse than a drug addict. It makes you worse than a felon who has a gun.
  20. The clown is really in regards to these now being "dangerous" SBRs, not to the people who built others. I have an other, myself. In some ways I'm rationalizing. I do, too, appreciate its mobility and practicality for home defense. It sucks to not be able to keep it; it was actually the first long gun I ever got. But if adding 2.5" to the barrel and pinning a stock are all that I need to do, I'll be relieved and hope that's the end of it.
  21. You know, this makes me wonder why the others even took off the way they did. Was it all for the adjustable brace? Otherwise, I guess a 13.5" barrel is interesting... those 2.5" really make the difference!
  22. There is still contention here. It's possible that even a bare buffer tube can be considered shoulderable. Which is madness. The only guaranteed compliance is to turn the other into a compliant rifle. But even then, I'm waiting a bit to see what happens. Personally, I need a shoulderable solution.
  23. Following up: I just got my SUB2000 back from Kel Tec. It's much stiffer now! It will move if I put a ton of force into it, but won't budge in normal use. Thank you all!
