  1. If you read the statute and admin code I believe it says you only have to qualify with one and you can carry any handgun you legally own. If these people are charging more for qualifying with more than one its just a money making scheme. GOD BLESS CAPITALISM!!!

    Lever guns

Well...I'm not a novice shooter but I still consider it a 100 yd gun although the round is effective at longer ranges.
  3. Casinos are restricted areas probably covered by the Admin Code too.
  4. IMO if you think 28 ounces is too heavy carry a water gun. I've carried a full size 1911, Beretta 92, G17, and a 4" k frame under a tshirt. Printing? 99.99% of people don't notice printing. That includes LEOs. I've only been carrying a gun for almost 50 years. WTF do I know. @High Exposure agree with you 100%. I can use my belt as a tourniquet and usually carry a clotting sponge. Id add one thing. Most confrontations you may encounter dont require lethal force. As the old saying goes if you see every problem as a nail you'll use a hammer (your gun). You need to carry a less than lethal alternative. I carry a Kimber Pepper Blaster. YMMV
  5. AFAIK NJ has not adopted the same carry restrictions NY has. I've seen no legislation stating this. Murphy is waiting to see what Hochul gets away with before he moves just as he followed Cuomo's lead during COVID. Murphy has no idea what he's doing aside from party agendas. NY has sensitive and restricted areas. Sensitive areas include bars, entertainment venues, schools, etc. If you have a NY carry permit you can't carry in theses places. If you're carrying under LEOSA you can. The most ridiculous restriction is Times Square (the area to be defined by the mayor). NY has restricted places. These include all places that don't have a "guns welcome" sign. Contrary to the rest of the country that requires a "no guns" sign. The only people that can carry in restricted areas are active NYS LEOs (and Feds who are not subject to state law). If a retired LEO goes into a bodega to buy an empanada that's a felony. Many of the NYS restrictions will be found unconstitutional IMO.. Currently the only places restricted in NJ by statute are courthouses and schools. Murphy feels screwed as the state lost a lawsuit where they didn't fully recognize LEOSA. NJ took the attitude we don't have to recognize Federal law. And they lost.
  6. Just be sure if you get stopped in front of a school you pull over on the street not in the school's parking lot.

    Lever guns

Never used Leverevolution in either rifle. Feeds fine with soft points or hollowpoints. Leverevolution is for longer ranges IMO. Whilst both calibers can be effective at longer ranges I consider both the 30-30 and 357 100 yd rifles with the factory sights.
  8. A city ordinance is not a crime. It is not even a misdemeanor. You are correct possession on school property is a felony. However, the original post said you were driving by the school. The street is not school property. It is a public throrofare. IANAL but I'd argue the sidewalk by the school is also a public thorofare and not considered school property.
  9. I think you're both overthinking this. I never heard of a city ordinance that's a felony. The only concern is if you carry on your friend's property is he going to call the police and turn you in.
  10. That's because Murphy always follows NY's lead as he followed Cuomo with COVID restrictions.

    Lever guns

I have 2 Rossis. My only issue with the 357 is the magazine spring. I think they use the same spring on all barrel lengths (16, 20, 24?). Mines a 16". Looked on a Rossi forum and someone said clip X number of coils off. Did that. Runs great feeds all 357s and 38s except wadcutters. The Stainless Rio Grande in 30-30 has been trobule free.
  12. My take on carrying a 22. If that's all one could handle that's what you carry. End of story. If you look at the Lucky Gunner ammo tests there's really little difference in penetration between 22lr, 22mag, and 25acp. I'd pick a solid, probably a CCI Mini Mag, for better penetration. The CCI ammo runs well in all my semiautomatics. A revolver makes sense but if I'm carrying a j frame size revolver it's in 38 spl most of the time. Other times it's a 32 long or a 327 mag loaded with 32 H&R magnum. Both have adequate penetration. 327s have way too much penetration even in a 2". If I'm carrying a 22 rf or 25 auto it's usually a backup to my main battery. Stopping power is limited with a 22 or 25. Tactically, you need to shoot your opponent until they go down. 4,5,6 times if needed. Not an IPSC double tap. You may have to shoot a bag guy 4,5,6 times even with a 9mm, 40, or 45. Another problem with small guns is bad guys sometimes don't believe they're real guns. I know of an instance where the bad guy pulled a knife on an undercover. There was some distance between them. The undercover pulled a 25 auto. The bad guy didn't believe it was a real gun until the U/C cranked a round into the sofa. The bad guy dropped his knife. Nobody wants to get shot, even with a 25. FWIW
  13. You guys are overthinking this. Calm down.
  14. All you guys are reaching out for failure Hey I can do a HQC with a j frame Bot as good as I used to. I Qualify under LEOSA and Rpo. Not as good as I used to be. So much "I can shoot better than the cops". You wouldn't want to meet the cops I've trained!!!!
  15. Americans With Disabilities Act.
  16. @samiam you need to understand I used to take every agent to the range after they returned from basic training. I decided if they were competent to carry a gun on their own. This took anywhere from an hour to four 8 hour days depending on their experience and ability. My agency was willing to put the time and money into this. Most are not and are satisfied with whatever they did in basic training. BTW, I don't think people have to shoot from 25 yds to get a carry permit.
  17. Are you a "certified firearms instructor". I am. I'm not going to be satisfied someone "is thoroughly familiar with the safe handling and use of handguns" unless they qualify on some course. Read the statute again . Basically it says qualification, use of force training, or safety course. I'm not satisfied unless I give all three before I sign anything.
  18. Yes, but he is the exception not the rule. In my prime I wouldn't hesitate to take a 50 yd headshot. Not now as I know my limitations.
  19. I flown numerous times out of Newark and Philly checking a gun. Never had an issue. Only time anyone asked me to show the gun was unloaded was at O'Hare in Chicago. The worst experience I had was in Kansaa City where they didn't have TSA but private security. They wanted to inspect my bag out of my sight. They wanted me to give them the combo to open my bag. I refused to unless I was present. I said, "I'm not giving you the combo". They said, "You aren't getting on that plane". I requested the private security supervisor an the airline's security supervisor. They had a conversation I was not privy to but it resulted in me being present when they inspected my gun. One issue out of maybe 30. Since that guy in FL opened his checked bag in the baggage area, everytime I've flown they've had me claim my bag in the baggage office. Not inconvenient AFAIC. One time I has my bag (going to Philly) was missent to Charlotte. They said they couldn't have it in Philly until the next day and I'd have to come and pick it up as the delivery service refused to transport firearms. Yeah, a couple of issues but never an issue flying out of Newark and Denver.
  20. I've been carrying for almost 50 years. I don't understand the fascination with open carry. You want to show people you have a gun? Why? When I moved to AZ in 1978 they had no carry permits. Only LEOS could carry concealed. Anyone could open carry. You really didn't see that much although almost everyone had a gun in their car. The only situation I'd open carry is if that was the only option available.
  21. It seems that Prosecutor is taking the statute and requiring safety, qualification, and use of force training when the statute only requires one. Then again, it's Bergen County.
  22. I said previously I think someone will be okay qualifying with the HQC1. However, the statute just says qualification not specifying COF. I think they'll have to accept whatever COF is used at this time as long as you can attach that it's used by a LE organization or the NRA. When my daughter decided to have a handgun (she got a S&W Model 10 and a Taurus 85 from my accumulation) I trained her to 10 yards. She was shooting a 3 inch group at 10 which interpolates to about an 8" group at 25. She doesn't want to carry (although she's lived in a shall issue/open carry state for about 20 years). I was satisfied with her performance.
  23. You can conceal carry as many magazines as you want now as long as its not hollowpoint ammo and you don't have a gun with you.
  24. The problem with the statute is it states qualification by a certified firearms instructor without stating what course of fire or what is a "certified firearms instructor". If you shoot the HQC1 I'm pretty sure you'll be covered. All these other courses I'm not sure about. Perhaps they're leaving it this way to give a chief or a judge a way to disapprove the application. Some have mentioned the NRA Concealed Carry COF. I haven't been able to find that anywhere. Could someone provide me a link? I do have an answer to what constitutes a certified firearms instructor. NJSP directed me to the part of the statute that says, "other recognized certified instructor". That would cover anyone who is a "recognized certified instructor".
