  1. Way to burst my bubble, thank you guys. One of my dreams has been to find a property large enough that I can shoot on. Tough to find in jersey for reasonable money.
  2. I am looking at possible purchasing property that directly fronts the Delaware River and I'm wondering about the possibly of shooting some clays out over the river. The town has an ordinance against discharge of firearms, but looking at the tax map it appears that the town boundry is the high tide line. At low tide there is probably 50 ft of land, which I believe would be state property. Would it be legal to stand on this land and shoot out over the river, from the state's perspective? I would be using steel shot, biodegradable clays, etc, so as not to cause any environmental issues. The opposing shore in Pennsylvania is more than 800 yards away so I don't see that it would be a safety concern. Who would I need to talk to about this? The state police? Thanks.
  3. Are you still a Virginia residient, or have you permenantly moved to NJ? Given your age I'm wondering if you are just here for college? If you still have a Virginia drivers license and still call Virginia home, I would skip buying a gun here altogether and buy one at home. If you want to buy one up here, you could drive to PA and buy one with no additional paperwork. If you still want an FID card for peace of mind while having a gun in New Jersey, or if you have your heart set on buying one here, I believe as a non-NJ resident you would have to apply for your FID at a State Police Barracks. If on the other hand you are now a permenant New Jersey resident, apply for your FID at your local police dept and hope they are one of the speedier towns.
  4. I'm not really familiar with this gun, but how is this not a SBR under federal law and subject to NFA regulation? It states it is 25.5" in folded configuration, and can be fired while folded? Doesnt a gun have to be at least 26" in its shortest fire-able configuration?
  5. The way you have written both of these out, it seems you are trying to say there is a difference between the two when it comes to overall length. Can you give an example of a gun that is Federal legal but not NJ (or vice versa)?
  6. If a gun was purchased out of state (otherwise properly, through a dealer) without a COE, has that ever come back and been a problem for any NJ resident? And while we are talking about it, if you buy a gun either in NJ or out of state, how long are you supposed to keep the COE for? I don't think I have seen in any of the laws a requirement that you keep it (though prudent judgement would dictate that you do). Aren't you supposed to have an FID to purchase a long gun even in another state? I know the dealers in PA ask to see them, but do dealers in all 50 states even know about them?
  7. Welcome to NJ. If you are looking for a place to shoot, you should check out Delran Junior Marksman, right off of Taylors Ln. Practically in your backyard! One of the nicest, safest ranges around in my opinion. They have a handgun range (currently closed for renovations), 50 & 100 yard rifle, and a trap setup. They are open Saturdays and Sundays year round, and Wednesday nights for most the summer and fall (last Wednesday was their last night for the season). They get $20 for the afternoon if you aren't a member, but to my knowledge they are the ONLY club around that does not require you to be a member (or know a member) to shoot there. Let me know if you want directions to get there, or any more info.
  8. Is anyone here familiar with the Maple Shade Sportsmens Club in Maple Shade, off of RT73 @ Main St? I remember seeing a billboard for it on RT73 for it years ago, but never visited it. A few years ago the sign disappeared. I have access to property records electronically, and I checked awhile ago and saw that the piece of land they are/were on was transferred to the NJ DOT in 2009. I figured they were a casualty of all the reconstruction they've been doing on RT73. A few weeks ago though, i saw their sign is back, on the RT73 N exit ramp onto Main St. Maybe they are now renting the land from the DOT? The only info I have been able to find about this club on google is an article from the Inquirer in 1991 talking about their yearly turkey shoot. Is this place dead or are they just keeping a very low profile on the internet? I believe all they have is a trap or skeet range, but it would be nice to have someplace to go until Delran reopens. I think the sign said they open in early september, so maybe i'll stop by next month to see whats up. Thanks
  9. Somehow this made the front page of the New Jersey section of the Philadelphia Inquirer today. I didnt read the whole article, but honestly to me it does not seem the slightest bit newsworthy. As others said above, this is a non-issue in most states.
  10. I was planning on going to Delran this weekend; I'm a member there too. I randomly happened to visit their website this afternoon and noticed the closed notice. Was there an incident of some sort? Other than Range 14 at Fort Dix, are there any other outdoor ranges that are open to the public in the philly metro area? I'm open to driving across a bridge to PA. I dont really want to join another club since the message on Delran's website sounds hopeful that they will reopen (again!).
  11. why would this be your primary point of contention with new jersey laws, of all things? Yes I agree there should be no limit at all, but there are so many other more critical things, in my opinion most notably carry law, but also other things like the handgun purchase process. The 15 round limit just sucks logistically, because magazines are slightly harder to come by, but honestly in terms of overall defensive capability and/or fun at the range, 15 rounds is plenty. I would start somewhere else and come back to the magazine limit after tackling everything else.
  12. Not sure how many of you get the Philadelphia Inquirer, but there was an article in today's edition which correlates high gun sales with the poor economy. Of course this isnt the first such article to highlight this point, but I found interesting the brief interview with NJ State Senator Jeff Van Drew (D, Cape May), who supports the right to carry and apparently is pushing legislation that would make NJ a shall-issue state. All this coming from a Democrat! I realize his legislation doesnt stand much of a chance, but nice to see there are at least a couple Democrats on our side in the state. Link to Full Article
  13. I dont really see how there are too many variables or that its a moral issue. I was under the impression that most violations of the law, short of murder, rape, etc, have a statute of limitations. Pretty straightforward. Is it a felony or a misdemeanor? I would think that all misdemeanors have a limit to how long after the fact that a person could be held liable.
  14. Totally hypothetical here, but here are a ton of posts on this forum regarding firearm transfers particularly between family members and close friends. I have to imagine there are a huge number of people out there who have committed what would be considered an illegal transfer, particularly within the family. My question is, lets say the transfer happened and there is no way to undo it obviously. The person finds out later that the transfer was not done legally from the forum, talking at the range, etc. What is that person supposed to do, especially if its years later? Does a person need to be worried about a gun their father/uncle/best friend etc gave them 20 years ago in the event of a traffic stop or other such incident, or is there a statute of limitations on these things?
