  1. The question is if it exceeded their normal backup. They have expanded their product line without expanding their capacity. Which means its been normal for them to not keep up on certain items. If its across the board, then demand has shot up or capacity is being diverted to large contracts. I think there's a lot of anticipation on this, which means a self fulfilling prophecy.
  2. That could be fixed with a resistor. For a hobby where you'll hear "you gotta pay to play" one should just get the cats for a street legal car. There are plenty of good high flow ones out there, and making clean power is very doable.
  3. These days glock just sends you a certificate for a new glock to avoid these issues.
  4. I'm aware of it. You do realize that density of the bullet matters and is included in the equation, right? You do also realize its not an equation lik F = m * v^2, right? Because according to that I can't shoot 55gr out of my 1:7, and I do. So do a lot of other people
  5. You left off 4) they tend to be more accurate because of the rearward shift of weight and generally longer bullet for the same weight. In a poor aerodynamic package like a pistol bullet, this helps. It's not a massive difference, but it is noticeable. Also 5) if you have a comp, the covered base prevents fouling of the comp from lead.
  6. Im 6'6" or so with long arms. I used to go looking for long length of pull. Had an ar with the full length arfx stock and the extra long butt pad. Then I started shooting offhand from more of a modern isoceles stance. All of a sudden I was taking length off. Now I just shoot the arfx with the bare metal butt plate.
  7. I just did a powder valley order. I can tell you prices are creeping up on some brands, and things are going out of stock more frequently. I'm expecting stupidity again, so I got mine while the getting is good. As for zero bullets/rose dist. They haven been able to keep up since 2008, I wouldn't regard their warnings as meaning too much. If precision delta starts complaining, worry more. If Montana gold is back ordered, you know demand is high.
  8. No it's not. Vld bullets are usually quite long, but taper rapidly. Now think of a wadcutter, which is basically a cylinder. Grain per grain, the wadcutter is going to have more bearing surface and thus more friction. The way to gain weight without having to go longer is to take up as much of the bore as possible. You can also go longer. Longer bullets can have pressure issues due to reduced case volume. Fat bullets can have pressure issues due to more friction with the bore due to a larger bearing surface. A grain isn't a grain, because bullet profile matters. Why does this matter with barrel length and twist? Because a bullet is like the tires on a dragster. You want it to hook up just right, but just because you spin the tires doesn't mean you don't go anyplace. A bullet that isn't optimal for 1:9 because it is too heavy ( has too short a bearing surface relative to mass) skids on the rifling like a car doing a burnout. There's still friction, but not optimal, so in a 14.5 inch barrel, it might not get enough spin going to stabIize. In a 20 inch, it might.
  9. Pics? I have not heard of this on any 930.
  10. If that facility is DC rather than AC, that is just a staggering density of storage.
  11. I think all this says is that a handful of scum are going to court because they got caught stealing, and we have a few more laws that have been recently enacted because of that. Since they are new-ish, they don't ahve a long record of being ineffective yet, so we get to back into first place.
  12. I'm going to guess you are seeing more because things dragged on enough that private sector layoffs and public sector layoffs are overlapping. In general, you usually have a recession, private sector unemployment rises, revenue decreases, public sector starts to lay off, recession ends, private sector hires start, revenues increase slowly, government layoffs taper off. We are now having multi-year overlaps, and borrowing is getting rough for the government so there's not so much riding out staffing issues on debt. On top of that, what job creation that is going on is mostly low wage, hourly, service sector work which does not increase revenue that much. NJ is also just weird last recession where unemployment was rising, very few people I knew were unemployed, and most of those that were were not unemployed for long. If the stats were to be believed, for that recession, that was statistically improbable, but wasn't that common in NJ. The only ones getting really screwed were 50 somethings that were ditched to avoid costs. This time however.... more part time jobs, more getting by on one income, more round trips to the unemployment line, etc.
  13. I've had good experiences with gunbroker, but really it's about the seller, not the listing service. For example, there's this one vendor.. rhymes with ton80. I would trust the guy to get me what I buy eventually 100%. I trust the guys claims that he is selling from stocked items 0%. What's even worse is that whatever method he uses to get the items, at least in the past, he's far from the guy getting stock first when there is a backlog. I've bought a lot, and haven't been ripped off yet, but there have been a couple doosies when it comes to getting my money back. I'd say about 80% good painless transactions, 10% bad inventory management, 10% flakes who shouldn't be running a business.
  14. I doubt that is the case. Yes, there is a ring around it that looks like a crimp, and it isn't obvious how you take the bit that blocks the end of the mag tube out immediately, but you basically just pry it out carefully. I used some needle nose pliers and lever up each side a little at a time. Be wanred the spring will come flying out, watch your eyes/face/nearby pets or valuables/etc. It actually has a +3 from what I understand. The base tube that ends at the end of the forearm will hold 4 rounds. Mossberg marketing decided to just start saying capacity was 5. Someone who knows more about guns than how the weasel like mind of marketing people works "fixed" it for them on some models and added the +1 back in. If it jsut ahs a standard forearm, it is 4+1. If it is an SPX, it is 7+1. If it is the jerry miculek edition it is 8+1 (listed as 9) for the 20" barrel and 9+1 (listed as 10) for the 24" if they are ever actually available (which apparently they WERE very recently until they all sold out). For illustration, THIS says it is 7+1, and THIS says it is 8 in mossberg's specs. You will notice the only thing that differs is one is a pistol grip stock and one is not. THIS one says it holds 5+1, THIS one says it holds 5. The only difference is the muzzle device. If you go to all the field/waterfowl models, they all now say 5 round capacity. Trust me, they are 4+1. Mossberg's marketers decided they know better than many years of common convention when listing specs.
  15. I don't think CCW in NJ is impossible, but I do think that if we DO win, the majority of the battle won't be fought here. NJ's legislature won't cave anytime soon, and our judicial branch is so broken you can't count on the same law being interpreted the same way twice by the same judges. Our only hope is that the circuit court becomes forced to accept certain interpretations of the law, or federal law puts pressure to change on states. After that the fight can come here, but every fight is going to need enough bank to get to the circuit court I suspect. It'll be like a longer more drawn out version of the situation in DC.
  16. There, explained it for you. In civil suits, liability is not really a matter of law, but a matter of persuading the jury. Jury's tend to get all emotional about dead kids, so even though the parents were negligent, you settle, because it is cheaper than losing
  17. Yes, the pistol grip is illegal as it is semi auto. The recoil isn't bad. Not as soft as a Remington 1100, but not far off. Softer than a Benelli though. I got the base gun of mine for somewhere around $525 after shipping and nics. Then about $500 in add ons and gunsmithing.
  18. One thing to point out is that in general, you cannot make a determination about how well a barrel of twist rate X will shoot a bullet of weight Y. It isn't JUST about the weight. It is also about the bearing surface of the bullet. A heavy bullet with lots of bearing surface may stabilize out of a barrel that a heavy bullet of the same weight with a VLD design won't. Bullet profile and construction matters more than you would think.
  19. Regarding OB. The zombie match is idpa. The 3-gun match is OBCATS. Why we may not have one is due to not enough worker bees, and too many shoot and scoot types. There's also issues of too many people signing up. Theres issues with tying up the range for the length of time needed to get everyone through who wants in. We simply aren't going to get that big a block of time from the club or from match staff. There are other issues, but those ate the major ones. We may not have one. We may have one that is invitation only. As for zombie match, that's idpa and they have their own manpower issues. They will also likely have some logistical issues as I hear they are getting their own trailer.
  20. Stuck with hacket maybe? Although I don't remember that one, so it might not be.
  21. Leave them at cabelas because they aren't free. Even when I DO buy ammo from cabelas, I leave them. I haven't found an ammo deal there yet that wasn't either beaten by a good chunk elsewhere, or available as a slighlyt better deal a couple aisles over without the "free" box. As far as I can tell, the box costs you between $5 and $10. Now if you need one, and need the ammo that makes it a $5 deal, by all means take it. It beats paying $14 for the box.
  22. US government and wal-mart is my guess. wal-mart contract prices leave little margin on a good day. When commodities go up, it leaves negative margin. Also, WWB is contracted out to far away lands because domestic production capacity is better spent on higher margin products. So when there's production line capacity, WWB is from the US. When people are buying tons and there's demand for other products as well, the overflow gets contracted out. When the lines get to 100%+ capacity, service intervals get pushed as well. Which means worn dies stay in service, calibration intervals are longer, etc. When demand peaked with hoarding plus massive military buys of 9mm, most WWB was not american made, and pretty much any component manufacturer was churning out 9mm for someone to make contract deadlines. precision delta's 124gr 9mm vanished for a while due to that.
  23. Yeah, but as always, and in all 50 states, the question is will they all come back, and if so what condition will they be in.
  24. You can get a pretty nice trigger with only glock OEM parts. You can also get a gun that goes full auto by messing with OEM glock parts slightly. The answer is know what you are doing, pay someone who knows what they are doing, or leave it alone. I usually stick to the latter two unless it's an arts & crafts project for a learning experience.

    Build your own

Good advice, except I would start without the budget, but with building your ideal gun on paper and price it out with some online windows shopping. When that makes you choke, it makes it easier to know which parts you need, want, and really want. At least for me.
