Actually most of the savings is the excise tax not being involved in a self build. Most DIY parts are marked up a LOT compared to what someone who orders even 25 at once much less hundreds. Most of that markup covers the cost of employees/whatnot. My TIME to put one together? Minimal. Heck, the last lower I got that I had all the parts on hand was assembled and function tested (dry fire) in less than 30 minutes. The upper takes a bit longer, but not much unless there are problems to be fixed except for a few key operations that are either not necessary outside NJ, or are outying cases because I like what I like. Buying good instead of cheap avoids most of that. 3 yeas ago, no pre-built would have come CLOSE to my $1500 price for a similar gun. However, we have had a massive proliferation of black rifle parts resellers and assemblers. And actually, my time IS pretty much free. Unless you know of someone willing to pay by the hour for my few unoccupied hours in the evening, it's not like there is opportunity costs beyond what hobby I spend my free time on. If you are a lawyer or high end accountant or some other profession that can bill out hourly and bill for 70 hours in a day, sure.. that argument makes sense. Most people I find who make it are also choosing between working on some hobby or doing something else that doesn't get them paid. It's a stupid argument.
  2. Then why do they sell them at all? Someone might put one on a pistol's light rail, and create an NFA weapon illegally. You-tube is full of idiots who don't know better doing just that and advertising it.
  3. Del-ton uses a lot of cmt and dpms parts. For their run of the mill guns, the barrels were from mossberg at least as of a few months ago. They have a pretty good track record of answering inquiries about what is what. From customer reviews, the mossberg barrels are ok, nothing stellar. They make a decent affordable AR.
  4. Ok, I actually weighed it using the weigh yourself with it and without method. The bathroom scale says 8.6 lbs. Which is like 8lbs 10oz. My guess was 8lbs. 12oz. So not too bad a guess.
  5. There's a slight disadvantage shooting light bird shot at plates at longer distances due to lower muzzle velocity. I think that for the most part it just requires you to make sure you are shooting something a little hotter, and to be choked right for the stage. The NJ legal capacity definitely puts you at a disadvantage. At first, it looks like worst case is you get a 2-5 second penalty for reloading because you are two rounds short. Practically, stages are designed around a 8 or 9 round capacity, and you get screwed with a number of common stage gimmicks and array sizes. It's like shooting revolver at a match set up to be smooth for 10rd+ guns. Shotgun in 3gun is all about reloading.
  6. No idea. Unloaded, I'd say it is probably 8.75+lbs. if I'd have to guess. Stock was 7 3/4, but the tube and choke likely make up for the 10" of barrel. The railed forend isn't light compared to the stock plastic. I'd say that plus the side saddle adds at least 1lb. But that's just a guess.
  7. Why do you do it with a glock and not others? Probably due to grip circumference.
  8. Something to keep in mind perhaps. If they had a real legal right to do what they did, one would think it would be incumbent upon Facebook to give them access, and they wouldn't need the password then either.
  9. Ok, my 930. 18.25" vent rib barrel threaded for chokes (cut down by gunsmith) Lengthened and polished forcing cone hi-viz bead and leaf blade sight. (convertible). Aimpro tri-rail. Nordic components +2 extension. Nordic components 3/4" XL end cap. Nordic components barrel clamp. Nordic components bolt handle (not visible in the pictures). Brownells mossberg enhanced safety (metal and oversized). Non-ported poly-choke. S&J day glow green delrin anti-tilt extended follower with tactile divot to check if the magazine is really empty without having to look. I like it better than the ones with a tactile nubbin. Mesa Tactical 6 round side saddle. With a factory 18.5" barrel it should line up almost perfectly with the extension being a hair shorter. I still need to find a rear sling mount. The mesa tactical loop that says it works with their side saddles does not in this case.
  10. We DO ban unsafe people, at least form the ranges I'm a member of when we catch them. Your point? Do the ofrces of law enforcement NOT take action against those officers who are a safety problem?
  11. Ok, so behaving in a manner to achieve equal safety in performance, would you choose a holster that is faster for the same degree of safety, or slower? They are within $5 of each other street price.
  12. Well, lets put it this way. Would you like to see a range shut down because someone bought a cheap, badly designed holster and shot themselves unintentionally using it?

My rifle runs probably about $1500 to build form scratch. To get something similar built and delivered as a whole, it would probably cost about $1800-2200 depending. I can find package deals that get close for about $1500 though, but if I made the parts substitutions to match it exactly, my build cost would be about $1230.
  14. Tinker says basically: "conduct by the student, in class or out of it, which for any reason - whether it stems from time, place, or type of behavior - materially disrupts classwork or involves substantial disorder or invasion of the rights of others is, of course, not immunized by the constitutional guarantee of freedom of speech." The issue leading to the event in question was theoretically her talk of sex with a peer, and then a parent complained. If it is causing a disrpution in the school, they have the right to tell her not to say it and to enforce it with punishment. I'm not so sure about the search. Operating in loco parentis, the school can offer up consent to police to search a student's belongings, I'm unaware of that extending to the student's person, but that may be because the issue fell off my radar a while ago. However, unless they offer up facebook access via school equipment or can prove that the kid was accessing it from school, I would see it as fairly hard to create situation analogous to the search your bag type of rulings that doesn't wind up with the school on the losing end of the precedence. It's not like the school can search your bedroom, but they can search your bag or locker. Facebook strikes me as being much more like the bedroom than the locker.

That really depends on what you build it with. Want to be more specific? I can drop $30 on handguards, or $350 if I buy a really expensive rail system, or somewhere in between. I can drop $99 on a no name fire sale M4 profile barrel, or I can spend $500 on a decent match grade barrel.
  16. The pistol, not. The bolt action double rifle? I could see the use. Being the PH on a dangerous game hunt, you want a big caliber, which means a bolt action or double rifle. The oduble rifle is faster for a charge by something trying to kill you. The bolt action is good for capacity. The combo gets you both. The use is limited to a specific niche , but it's there.
  17. Stage 5 was mine. If anyone is interested in doing stages for cj or OB, pm me, I'll get you added to the list.
  18. Is there a chance? yeah. Is there a chance of soon? Depends on the mood of the kid. Not much spare time is left beyond matches and getting ready for matches. Or maybe I'll jsut stop being picky about a nice picture and snap something quick with the cell phone.
  19. go to home depot or lowes. Look for their interchangeable bit micro drivers (they both had the same model which is also sold elsewhere last time I was there, 3 bits in the handle while one is in the driver type of deal)). The interchangeable bits are hollow ground which is what you want for flat head gun screws, not flat gorun like most cheap screw drivers.
  20. leupold deltapoint, It's light, and lots of folks seem to be impressed with it. But yeah in terms of "the right thing ", the aimpoint micros are probably the sweet spot.
  21. Take a stock 4+1 930 and add This, selecting +2 and 930 http://shop.nordiccomp.com/NC-Shotgun-Extension-Complete-Assemblies-for-12ga-12GA-EXT.htm Plus one of these http://sjhardware.com/store/modules.php?name=catalog&file=product_info&cPath=107_123&products_id=347&osCsid=7b808b27ce554c64d522365d46a00564 plus one of these in 3/4" XL http://shop.nordiccomp.com/NC-Shotgun-Extension-Tube-End-Cap-12GA-CAP.htm Results in a shotgun that hold 6 rounds of everything I tired, and almost fits a 7th round of really short european shells, but misses by about 1/4" also added one of these http://shop.nordiccomp.com/NC-Shotgun-Tube-Clamp-BCL-XX-12-00.htm It's not the cheap way to go about it though. The cheap way to go about it is this http://www.midwayusa.com/product/172175/choate-magazine-tube-extension-with-sling-swivel-clamp-mossberg-930-12-gauge-2-round-parkerized The cheap way requires a lot more TLC with regards to getting things feeding right. The nordic setup has tapers and bevels in all the right places, and the end cap is not plastic. Also if you ever leave NJ, you can jsut buy the middle part of the tube and a new spring for more capacity.
  22. Dang, I got speeding tickets all over the place, only one clean stage.
  23. I'm not seeing a lot of regret in the 930 world. It runs and it costs WAY less than the benellis. Lots of benellis smiths are moving to 930s. Hell, I got mine cut down, recut for chokes, put several hundred dollars of accessories on it and it was STILL cheaper than a benelli. And I don't have to spend an extra $1000 on top of the cost of the benelli to get it to cycle heavy and light loads reliably.
  24. We start building at 8am. New shooter walk-through is usually going around 9:30. Signup usually starts in between there, but not guarantees this time as our signup guy blew out his knee before the last match, dunno if he's back yet. Round count is approximately 140 rounds if you don't miss.
  25. Standard 930s are 4+1. You add a +2 extension and you are at the legal limit of 6 in the magazine. I have a Nordic +2 on mine with there extended cap because I added an extended no-tilt follower.
