  1. Yup, and OB had to get the cameras because some people just couldn't grasp being safe and not destroying club property. We are reaching a point were the idiots are forcing clubs to choose between surveillance or not having a club.
  2. Lets see, IIRC rays was $12 an hour before it closed for pistol and rimfire indoors. 2 hours a month would have been $288. Consider joining one of the local clubs, it'll cost the initiation fee above and beyond that, but you will get more facilities than any pay by the hour range for a similar price.
  3. At least this one is. http://www.omaha.com/article/20111010/NEWS01/710109919
  4. It's going to be hard to beat $3 for a month of advertising space most anywhere. I had something to sell. For free I could get craigslist, gunbroker, or put on a yard sale. I like free, but I still paid the $3.
  5. 1) No real public ranges, no support form state funds. 2) Cost of realestate. 3) Population density. Ranges zoned as such actually have decent recourse to complaints under NJ law for the most part, but most aren't zoned that way, so what you get are things protected by circumstance. For example, the OBRPC outdoor range is leased. The reason we still have it is that it's on the edge of the former nike missile base. The town doesn't want high density residences built there, and the nike missile base is a nasty toxic mess in many parts, and swampy in others. So to be of any use, not only does the range land need to be remediated, but so do adjoining parcels. I'm sure losing it will become a concern again if the realestate market starts booming again.
  6. You don't need to refuse to answer them to actually avoid answering them. - What kind of gun do you plan on buying? Answer with something barely more specific than the NICS check. Applying for a handgun permit? Answer a handgun. Not a handgun permit, say a rifle or shotgun. It's a non answer. They don't know anything more than they did before they called. They ask for specifics, you say "I'm still making up my mind, I probably won't know for sure until I see what's in stock for what price." -What kind of training do you have? Try something like "I wasn't made aware there was mandatory training, is there some specific requirement?" Now he has to commit to something. If he does actually pull something out of his butt, try simply saying "can you send me information with specifics about that?" Now he has to do work as well as be creative. Bureaucrats, much like criminals, are inherently lazy. You don't have to be able to kick their a**, you just have to look like too much work.
  7. Doesn't look like it flowed like a bullet into mild steel does. It looks like the usual ar500 failure mode of a chunk the size of the bullet fracturing all the way through and popping out. That's how ar500 fails under heavy use, lots of small distortion causes lots of teeny fractures in the crystaline structure until one can just pop it out. The question is was it heavy use? How many rounds before it gave up the ghost?
  8. Lets see, I have to support the stupid things for work, and I have both an iphone 3gs (getting a 4s), and a samsung galaxy S. Both on AT&T. Here's my take on what sucks and rules about both platforms, as well as what in this thread is misinformation. Android (note, I haven't gotten to play a lot with post 2.3 installs): RULES -There are more serious technical apps available for it, simply because google permits it. So as an IT tool, it is more useful. -Getting files onto and off the device is vastly easier. -micro SDHC slots are awesome if you have to tote around a lot of mobile data. -Over the air updates for small -bigger screens. -flash in the browser makes it more complete. -integration with google mail and calendar. -if you root it, you can customize the heck out of it. -google finally made the marketplace searchable in reasonable ways that make it cease to look like a joke. They went from having a service that made it look like google had no idea what the word search meant to something usable. -support for video on web pages (it's much less painful than the iphone's version, although iphone gets by by being the 800lb gorilla). SUCKS -the bigger screens don't have higher resolutions. -flash in the browser kills your battery QUICKLY. -flash in the browser subjects you to lots of flash ads, which are not necessarily friendly with the screen constraints of a mobile device sized browser. -email integration with any other calendar, and some email is pretty broken in the base OS. -Battery life, it's poorly managed. -no out of the box backup. If you thought repopulating your addres book oby hand on a regular phone was fun, wait till you ahve to recover an android device by hand. -if you root it, you can configure it in a way that you are on your own, like, nobody else bothered to screw up your device in the exact same way, so good luck with getting help. -The hardware. Not that there isn't good hardware out there, but it is a crap shoot. My samsung has AWESOME 3g circuitry. Some don't . My samsung has the worst wi-fi radio in it in any device I have ever handled. It litterally has lost signal sitting on a table not being touched line of sight of my router less than 30 feet away. It IS BAD. about 15 other wireless devices in the house get 75% signal or better, the samsung topped out at 30%. -The OS. No, nothing is wrong with android other than the fact that EVERY SINGLE VERSION to date has had some horrible bug that impacts a major subsystem that makes smart phones actually USEFUL. It's simply not really done yet. -The OS. There are a mess of versions out there. A large number with some deficiencies and incompatibilities and of course varying feature sets. Which one does your phone have? Will it ever get an update? -The manufacturers. They skin the damn OS. So even if you have a "good" version of the OS on your phone, you may not be able to access the features actually fixed in that version. -The carriers. Apple tells the carriers to kiss their a**. The android ecology has to kiss the carriers' asses. SO you have an increasing trend to lock down side loading of apps and such. This kills some of the biggest pluses of the platform. -Viruses. Iphone: RULES -email and calendaring. The BEST active sync implementation outside of an MS OS period. Works solidly with IMAP, POP, activesync, and plays nice with gmail and google calendar. -screen resolution/pixel density. It matters if you actually use the thing a lot and have good eyes. (if you have older eyes, the lower res android phones, especially the higher contrast AMOLED screens might work better for you). -more carefully audited app store submissions. -more apps... LOTS more apps. -better touch screen. Apple has been beating the competition with the precision of their capacitive touch screens, especailly at the edge of the screen. I haven't played with many of the very latest andorid offerings, but even up to the droid bionic, its still better. -thinner and smaller. -CONSISTENT hardware that is generally very good. -CONSISTENT availability of OS upgrades for your hardware. -battery life, at least relative to other smartphones. -3rd party support and integration of the device. -Apple has been giving more thought to security form the start, we'll see if they stay ahead. -out of the box backup can save your a**. SUCKS -god help you if you need to roll out a custom in house app. -god help you if you try to deal with itunes as a developer for a large institution or business that will ahve multiple teams developing multiple apps on the platform. -you MUST use the itunes store. -you MUST use itunes on the desktop (at least until ios 5). -No flash. -when something is less than stellar with the hardware, you have to skip that generation, or suck it up. -LOTS of apps. Lots of crap, me too knock off apps. It's getting annoying wading through them to get to the good/useful stuff. It's becoming almost as unusable as marketplace used to be. Blackberry: RULES -nothing, now that cheap android and iOS devices are available. -worry, not nothing. If you are in bankign or pharma and need to monitor your employees' phones for compliance auditing, BES spies on more facets of use better than anything else by a wide margin. SUCKS -lack of developer support -lack of apps -crappy support of anything but IMAP or BES. -the fact that BES is about $3200 for the first user, and never gets below about $32 per user. -Out of the box cionfigurations to pocket dial 911. That's totally awesome when you give one of these to a less than savvy user, let me tell you. -everything blackberry. Windows: I haven't had anything with os later than 6.5, so I'll refrain from commenting. Some of the things I listed might not be entirely clear. 3rd party support. I'm not talking about cases and stupid crap. I'm talking about serious infrastructure. One example is large area wi-fi networks. There's a mechanism out there that permits you to have a persistant login over hundreds of networked acces points and not have to log in for each one, or even when you leave and come back. This has worked seamlessly with iphones since sometime mid lifecycle of the 3g. IT is STILL broken in andorid despite lots of pressure on google to fix it. If it is ever fixed, will it be fixed for your hardware? There's also been a push to higer bit SSL certs in the industry for security reasons. Both platforms had problems with this when we adopted them. Apple had a fix in les than 90 days. Android STILL tells you that the certificates are invalid and are forgeries right up to gingerbread tables we have. For, many businesses, exchange is a must for mail and calendaring. The Android implementation for active sync sucks, like not all mail shoiwng up, not all deletes actually occuring, new mail not showing up as new when it should, old mail still looking like new mail when it shouldn't, porr support for folders, etc. Apples is pretty solid, if not 100% feature complete (i.e. no task syncing and some other stuff, we'll see if now that ios5 has taskas, it gets task synching), what is there works, and works without hassle or drama. Also, activesyn can force PINs, lock a device, or wipe a device. My samsung? Tell it to wipe, it SAYS it does. But hard power cycle it, and the phone is usable just fine. The apple is literally bricked, and rebricks itself after booting until you tell it not ot. Security. Like I stated above, apple seems to be being more security conscious in many regards. At the OS level, they are more paranoid, and more proactive about keeping up with current standards. On the application side of things, they at least appear to be more strict about it, but they may just be better at keeping problems quiet. It's hard to say. So which is better? It's hard to say, as it depends on what you do and what you need. IS it for business? DO you need to deploy custom software to field techs or something similar? Then you need android, not locked down. DO you NEED to be synching with your exchange server at work? Then you need iOS or windows phone. Do you want or need wireless WAN connectivity where you are going? iOS will probably work out better for you. There are critical issues that can make one clearly superior to the other despite any bundled drawbacks. Things in this thread that are just blatantly wrong: -"you can't bulk delete email on iOS". WRONG. yes, yes you can. Hit edit when in the email app in a folder. You cna tag all the pieces of email you want and then hit delete. You can also just swipe delete, which is pretty fast ( ia actually find it faster). -"Droids will inherently sync better with any PC." Trust me, I have to deal with this every day. They DO NOT sync better. From a "palm pilot" perspective, they don't really need to sync, and are geared towards being an independent device. Form the "I want to dock it and have my contacts and calendar update", android is nearly useless. Itunes has been much improved in this regard. In terms of I want to put my 3000 songs on the device, yes, android is simpler and easier as it more or less looks like a USB mass storage device. -"It is now running 4.3.5 firmware. It will be my LAST iPhone. iTunes sucks. My iPhones speaker just up and stopped working recently. Nothing will cure it. Oh and it's been in a defender case from day one. Apple support for replacement sucks their 'genius's' are far from it." Yes, itunes the software sucks. Beyond that, phones get old. Your android phone won't be magically durable where your iphone was not. Apple's support is actually pretty good if you don't jailbreak it right up until the day you aren't covered. Then they will tell you to go scratch. I have tried to get support on my samsung phone. If no customer support is better than "bad" customer support, then you should be happy. From my practical experience, battry life and radio are really the end all be all on a mobile device. Everything else is a zero sum game. My iphone 3GS after about 28 months of service, The battery lasts about 28 hours instead of 34+. I get email refreshed every 15 minutes, check email probably 30+ times a day, play probably 30-40 minutes of games, do probably 20-30 minutes of browsing. With my andorid device, if I turn on wi-fi, I get between 3.5 and 6 hours do to the crappy radio constantly trying to reconnect. If I leave it on 3g, and have mail sync every 15 minutes, It lasts maybe 8 hours. GPS kicks both their asses, but apple lasts longer and locks quciker. The iphone is for me, a more usable device.
  9. If you really need it, call worldclasssteel llc. I know John can get decent quantities of frangible form one of his suppliers. He goes through a nice chunk of it for the indoor steel match over the winter. 732-494-0274 I believe is their official number, but they should be listed in most of the FFL directories form stuff like gunbroker, buds, etc.
  10. Uhm, I think I need the graphic detail. Because I can't imagine what could possibly be contained in that document that would lead to anything tragic other than uniform application of the law. Does it contain some secret code word by which you can bypass the whole process with a wink and a nod or something?
  11. So out of curiosity, if they just keep doing extension after extension, what is the recourse at that point?

    HELP!

Sayreville sportsman has federal small pistol.
  13. Howabout you all zip it and post more shotgun pics.
  14. Uhm ebay doesn't allow that anymore as far as I can tell (I also see no listings of it). The gun broker ones appear to get no customers for several reasons. 1) They are just overpriced. I can go to a reputable business and get 1k mixed headstamp 40 for $45/k sorted for $61/k. Examples of overpriced gunborker sales are 1k for $75+$12S&H. Another for 1500 for $45_$15 S&H. If you are going to sell and want your price to be reasonable aim at about 2000-2500 in a single flat rate box packed properly (if usins USPS, get the priority tyvek envelopes, put the brass in those ans seal them, then box them in the box and tape the crap out of the box). If I want unprocessed, I look in the USPSA classifieds or on the brian enos forums and can usually score a really nice price like $70 for 2-2.5k shipped with a little patience. 2) They are overpriced once you add in shipping. Often these are small lots. If you are going to sell, figure out what the USPS flat rate boxes hold reasonably, and pick the sweet spot in terms of price/count/cost of shipping. It effectively minimizes shipping costs to the buyer, and guys buying used brass are cheap that way. 3) THEY SELL LIKE HOTCAKES, you just don't see the bids. for example, I see an auction for 1k of .223 military brass decrimped, full length sized, and deprimed for $98+$11 S&H. That's a smoking deal. It is a 24 hour listing, and will likely be reposted tomorrow even if it sells because it's a business capitalizing on the fact the gunbroker listings are free. Other have buy it now with a reasonable price. SO buyers hit the buy it now. If your brass isn't selling, you are doing something wrong. 380 Auto- 8.5 lbs 9mm-9 lbs 357 Sig-10 lbs 38 SPL-10 lbs 357 Mag-12 lbs. 10mm-11 lbs. 40 S&W-10 lbs. 45 ACP-12.5 lbs 223 13.25lbs
  15. here's a notion: If they heard the Williams case, they would have two choices. Say you have no right to be armed outside the home, or to say that you have the inherent right to be armed outside the home without a permit. If they don't want to give either of those answers, and they feel there was no issue with HOW the lower court arrived at a ruling, then they don't hear the case. Your interpretation of what the case is about is wrong. That's what it means to YOU, but in reality if you want to view it as about concealed carry, it is about vermont/alaska style no permit concealed carry in the face of existing state regulations to the contrary. In that regard, yes, the USSC would appear to not believe that no-permit concealed carry is a right. That does not mean you can't challenge an existing permitting process as unconstitutional. Heck, the "may issue" type of permitting process can go there and be challenged without even bringing the 2nd into it, but attack it under due process since it treats any two people with the same set of extenuating circumstances rather arbitrarily.
  16. He certainly has changed his tune since I tried to deal with him about 7-8 years ago. He was such a nice guy back then that he can take his $20 and his case of ammo and shove it where the sun doesn't shine.
  17. Uhm, I don't know if that means you do or don't wear glasses. I don't think you typed what you think you typed. Even if you have good vision, if you are having trouble with aiming without putting a LOT of concentration into it, you might have a minor astigmatism that involves the sweet spot of where you want the sights to be when shooting. In that instance, you might need only a teeny bit of correction, but it makes a huge world of difference in this particular activity while being negligible in most of your daily life.
  18. yes, but if you try a technique that allows you to use your left, you may not be screwed. I'm not cross eye dominat, so I can't assure you it works, but I see too many good shooters who are using it with success that I can't imagine it sucks for the majority of shooters.
  19. Having set up WCS's rimfire steel side match for several years. 22 won't take down jack if they aren't set properly. (ok, maybe the really teeny knockdown steel that doesn't get dragged out for much is hard to set too ehavy unless it has something wrong with it.) So unless someone is keeping certain folks away from setting some plates heavy for reasons that don't really make any sense, you might have issues even double tapping it.
  20. The price is wrong! Next player.
  21. Sorry, but with regards to the credit default swap shenanigans, the banks are culpable, they weren't some doe eyed innocent. Then you have things like pulling BS with gold leases vs metal on hand, while at the same time acting in collusion with their mining contractors to limit ingot size to drive up metal prices for small quantities to justify pushing up lease prices while extending the "reserve ratio" on the metal they actually did have. Then you have folks like goldman sachs opening up commodities warehouses so they can delay release of materials and get an advantage on spot markets. Add to that that you have a few key banks that have access to all trade date just a wee bit sooner than everyone else. The fact that goldman sachs has had cronies in most of the top positions of federal money management for way too long doesn't help. There's nothing wrong with banking and making a buck, there's definitely something wrong with the current state of banking.
  22. Hmm.. I know of several 16" midlength uppers that run jsut fine on wolf (which AFAIK is the same as tula and herters), sounds like your midlength 14.5" is a bit under gassed. I am making an assumption about herters being the same as wolf. Same place makes, no idea if it is actually the same velocity in the real world. I have chronoed wolf, xm193, pmc bronze, a couple flavors of WWB, and some other stuff form my 16" barrel. You should snag a box of pmc bronze as it was one of the lowest velocity rounds of the bunch. It STILL ran multiple 16" BCM midlength barreled guns in cooler weather. Want to have fun, go out on a REALLY cold day. Lots of ammo slows down enough to get sketchy about running a gun when it is 20F with wind chill down around 2F or so.
  23. First, do you need glasses? (no, honestly, are street signs starting to get fuzzy and such?) If yes, try getting prescription glasses and WEARING them. You need to see properly to shoot well. (But what about when the SHTF in the middle of the night and I can't see? Well first don't shoot people you can't identify, but you probably want to learn to point shoot, which reauires you to learn how to shoot well and consistently so you HAVE an index to point shoot from.... Stop making excuses if you need glasses. Just get them.). Something to try, you don't even need to go to the range to do it, just remember to practice safety properly while dry firing (NO AMMO in or around anything you are practicing with PERIOD). Basically pick up our pistol and get a decent grip with both hands on it like you would to shoot and get your natural point of aim on some object or target. A post it with a black circle on it or similar should be sufficient. Something small. Now, bring the gun straight back into your chest and hold it there. Push it out to your natural point of aim with both eyes open a couple times to get a feel down for it. Now repeat with only your dominant eye open being sure to get the sights lined up well, and to get the image of the right sight picture set in your head. Now go back to doing it both eyes open, and when you do, try to keep your mind focused on the correct image of your sights. Start doing all this in slow motion. Do a few one want, alternate, and repeat. Anytime it feels like you are making progress, do a presentation with both eyes open and close your non dominant eye to check if you are getting it right. As you start getting better, speed it up. You are basically trying to teach your brain to focus on the correct image and that your dominant eye is leading the show wiht authority when you are shooting pistol. Assuming you are right handed and left eyed. Try using your dominant eye for pistol, just try doing it by touching your right ear to your right shoulder. Plenty of good shooters use that technique.
  24. Most of the little caldwell targets are CRAP. Even the ones that say for 30-06. They mean 30-06... shooting lead... at 1000fps or less. Which isn't really 30-06 anymore. 7.62x39, .223. .308 will all put holes right through it, and hot centerfire ammo from a pistol will dent the hell out of them. The big caldwell ar550 gong is pretty solid form what I have heard though. It's also $100. If you want something durable for pistol, you want something made out of AR450 or better (or a differently named equivalent). For rifle, you want AR500 or better. HAlf-inch thick is best, but unless you plan to REALLY beat the crap out of it, 3/8" will do. Mike gibson manufacturing makes very nice stuff (mgmtargets.com). Their auto poppers rock for rifle practice at 100+ yards if you don't mind the price. GT Targets makes OK stuff, not as nice in my opinion, but several of their pieces are on the more clever side, and some of them, although not as nice also aren't as overbuilt, and thus more affordable. Action target makes some nice stuff. For simple transport and setup, their evil roy target is awesome. BTW, do NOT put your ar500 targets closer than 100 yards when shooting rifle. .223 will pock mark the surface a bit at 50 yards just on velocity. If you want something cheap to abuse, you cna get ar500 plates from wideners in 1/2" thickness for a very reasonable price. It's ugly but functional, and cheap. If you like the MGM autopoppers, I just scored a couple of "auto-reset steel" from bunker hill steel. ( http://bunkerhillsteel.hostedbyamazon.com/ ) It's their only product, not as nicely cut as mgm, gt, or action targets, but much nicer than the stuff from wideners, and at $80 it is 3/8" ar500 and comes with a couple of lag bolts and an extra spring. I got two recently (two fit in one flat rate USPS box), but haven't gotten to shoot it yet.
