  1. I've been putting together ARs for like 20 years and never heard of them. I don't think I'm the only one who hasn't heard of them, and thus the general silence.

That's Ghislaine's little black book. The problem  with considering that his client list is that pimping out teens was the side hustle that helped them main hustle, which was gaining influence. It's going to be their clients, their mundane contacts, and their aspirational contacts all mixed in unless they kept things very deliberately separated. And there's no way to tell if that's the case or not.

  3. This is stupid. So much of NJ electricity comes from natural gas. All that banning gas appliances will do is power electric appliances with natural gas plus transmission losses. Unless they build more nuclear, that's pretty much going to be the deal.

Maybe it'd make some kind of sense if they redid solar subsidies and rules for net metering. Like if you are going to get subsidies and/or net metering you have to convert to all electrical appliances with the solar install. That would require them to get rid of the caps based on prior usage though.

    Da' guberment.....idiocracy at its finest.

I feel sorry for whoever buys a full size truck with a turbo four banger it.  Doubt they make it much past 100k miles.

I've had long relationship with turbo 4 engines and driving them hard. A well designed  setup with a reasonably chosen turbo will last well past 150k. I did about 9 years and 170k in both of my last two. I think the worst thing I had to replace engine or turbo on them was a leaky main seal at around year 7 on one of them. But I wasn't towing anything. Realistically, most truck owners won't be either.

Oh it's not scuttlebutt, 2023 is the last year for the charger and challenger, and it's going to spread. There's a reason why Chevy has a full size pickup with a turbo 4 in it.

I think you might be misunderstanding the original question.  I am not aware of any cases but have been given legal advice that it’s not in my best interest to make any upgrades to my carry pistol.

I am looking for actual cases that someone can provide to better understand where this advice is coming from to weigh the pros and cons, the risks of my decision.

There are no sources. At the same time, pick any topic and try to get a lawyer to tell you you have no liability or legal risk. They will never give you an affirmative answer.

Every case I have seen where the status of the trigger was made an issue were civil cases and determining liability.

In regards to the perceived danger of using a altered trigger in a self defense shoot, I wouldn't dismiss it these days despite lack of history. Outside of LEO  I think it's a short list in NJ of legal and justifiable SD shoots, much less outside the home considering the former scarcity of ccw's. And how many of those involved a trigger uprade? I guess very very few. I don't know the stats of course, I'll leave that to the endeavors of your AG. But I'm sure if  SD  case comes along and a altered trigger is in the mix NJ will absolutely use that fact to help prosecute.

There was an incident down south jersey (unfortunately I can't find an article on it, it's been quite a while) of a defensive shoot with a uspsa open gun. It was a justified shooting. There was no talk of triggers. The definitions permitting the use of lethal force make little to no comments on the means, other than it being lethal.

My vision isn’t perfect by any stretch of the imagination. However, I can make consistent hits in a man sized target at 400yds.
Not precision shooting mind you, but solid hits. It’s not terribly difficult.

Of course I do better with magnification….the vast majority of us will. I have optics (ACOG/VCOG) for that purpose too.

And you will note I didn’t mention man sized targets. I went with a 2moa threshold which shows up in a number of contexts as a target threshold.

A wise man on here once told me that magnification doesn’t help you shoot better, it helps you ID your target better.

He also told me that a red dot will do you just fine out to those ranges as long as you learn your holdovers.

    He ain’t wrong. Just saying.

Lets say you have a 2moa dot. at 400 yards that limits you to an 8 inch target. That is if your dot gets no bloom. An etched reticle is going to be easier to get the hit with. As a dude with way less than perfect vision, I can tell you that with a LPVO hits on 8" targets at 300 are not terribly hard, and were really slow and difficult with a 3moa dot. I'll also say I've honestly gotten better with an LPVO as being able to see what your technique is doing in terms of relative motion/etc. between the gun and target is informative and you just can't see it with a dot unless you have got REALLY good vision. Like 20/15 or better.

There are people demanding schools close because of this…  I don’t get it.  Are classes outside?   Recess in the gym, sure.  But cancel?   Jfc.

I can understand it. With older ventilation, and frankly with any ventilation changes made for more "fresh" air for covid, the air quality by the end of 6-7 was BAD and overnight hit over 500 in some areas which is generally dangerous.  Ours did a half day, on 6-8, but reality was the back half of the day was less bad, the forecast was off about when it would peak. Like in my kids school, it looked like the hallways were foggy, and the gym was even worse.

Okay, I'll admit it, I''m kinda wondering why there are over 100 fires burning in Canada and if the smoke is a smokescreen for something else.

Most of Canada lacks people. So if stuff starts burning in the middle of nowhere, it can get a lot of burning done.

The smoke and haze filtered the sunlight to a spectrum that looked totally unnatural, and more resembled the incandescent lighting we have in place.

    Weird! Never seen that before.

It was downright sepia toned around here around 1-2pm.

  11. most of your axe throwing joint just have you throwing run if the mill hatchets. The harbor freight hatchet is pretty solid for the money. The $15 one with the hickory handle is the one I'm referring to. If you want an axe to stick well, you will either need to get a surface it can penetrate easily, or reprofile the blade edge. Which you kind of need to do if you want to actually have it chop wood and not suck as well.

So, honest question. Is this an SBR?

    antique-german-broomhandle-pistol-made-2

Yes except for the fact it is specifically exempted by name if it is in fact an 1895 mauser. I mean heck, the beretta neos carbine kit included a letter from the ATF explaining how to not make it an SBR. And that took years of legal back and forth to make happen.

Seems like a current commercial manufacturer is about to land a BIG government project.

I suspect that means their commercial distribution will end, so current customers will have to go elsewhere...

For black powder? That's what the shortage is. Last I checked it's not important in most small arms, and BP aficionados had to deal with the middle finger from hodgdon when the plant went up and they decided to get out of the black powder business. It's been priced into the market for a while now.

  14. The first question is what phone have you got? There might be an app.

There are tons of digital audio players and you can even start getting into some nicer ones for mid $90 range. But most of them are not going to come with ripping software to rip your CDs. I personally like and paid for dbpoweramp to rip my collection. It's a bit of a pain in the ass for hidden tracks and othe3r weird stuff sometimes, but it can actually get to most of them. It costs $50. It also supports batch conversion, so I just ripped everything to FLAC once, and then transcode it to whatever format I want.

  15. I've been living on cyberpowers at home and they do well compared to most of the smaller units outside of some serious APC units (i.e four figures to buy).

If you have a costco membership, they will save you a lot on the cyberpower. For example instead of $219 for the 1500va true sine wave, they have it for $179.

i said it before and i'll say it again. issue them to ALL law enforcement. right from the presidents detail right on down to the local beat cop. issue them to ALL military personel. 10 years of use and study of their reliability. then and only then if there have been no bad hiccups should they be allowed to offer to the rest of us.

if they're not good enough for law enforcement, then they're not good enough for the rest of us. if they're good enough for the rest of us, then they're good enough for law enforcement.

  17. ATF, or CCP?

Lots of the glock switches and lightning links style DIASs are from alibaba vendors and such. If there's zero consequence to them and it costs them $1.25 of materials and labor, why not ship in stuff that is disruptive?

Heck if you are really organized you can escalate the problem then drop the dime on your customers to try to spark conflict.

THey're special because thats who they vote for

    1) they are a common carrier, and once in possession of the common carrier, handling is not generally considered a transfer. Doe the new law recognize that? No, but nobody is likely to do anything due to federal law and supremacy, especially since if it is hitting an airport it is going interstate. The transfer occurs outside of a transportation hub.

    2) Assuming the transportation hub thing is referring to transporting people, air freight has a separate terminal to the passenger terminals, so there'd probably be issues even with regard to the law as written being applicable at least now that we live in a post people's express world.

  19. Two things to keep in mind in that article. First is that the telegraph system used thin wires over long distances. This made a giant antenna. The second thing is that for the most part, things were not destroyed, and when it stopped, they went back to working. Most of the issue was people getting shocked from things they expected not to have a charge, some equipment damage, and mostly communications disruption due to the charge caused by the solar flare in the wires impairing transmission. However, in many cases transmission was still possible, but impaired.

What happened then wouldn't necessarily be what happens now. For example small electronics probably won't be toast. They probably would just crash like they got zapped with a HERF gun. Additionally, infrastructure won't just get randomly zapped. Unlike then, we have multiple solar observation satellites to give us warning, and steps can be taken to mitigate vulnerability. So the difference between the best case and worst case is likely to rely on human performance to a great degree, which could be good or terrible.

Also, if you pay attention to astronomy or even just lightweight science news, this solar event was covered in various ways ranging from isn't this neat to the sun's gunna splode!

NJ would just moot the case by returning NICS same day, and then go back to their old ways after the case was dismissed.

They can do timely NICS, they just choose not to staff it sufficiently.

Can't moot it if you attach monetary damages. Have you ever taken a day off to go pick up a gun during business hours and had NICS screw you? Sounds like monetary damages to me.
