  1. The BIG difference between RAM and SSDs is that once power is off, RAM loses the data. SSDs maintain data even without power, which is how they can be reliably used as storage (versus volatile RAM). And they have improved rapidly and do not wear out as mentioned above. They'll last longer than the realistic life of any computer.
  2. Bumping this thread to remind folks this is still going on. Consider throwing some $$ to the 2AF as well! Thanks.
  3. Don't mean to hijack a thread, but if you ever want to see the chance of CCW in NJ, you should consider joining/donating to the Second Amendment Foundation. That's the group suing this fine state of ours! They got my money yesterday and will continue to get it. http://saf.org/viewpr-new.asp?id=346
  4. Solid State Drive - essentially replaces the hard drive with non-volatile flash memory. Super-fast and no moving parts. Still somewhat pricey, though.
  5. An invading army would still need to fight the U.S. organized military, as well as whatever resistance groups rise up. What we need to be worried about is what led the founding fathers to include the 2nd Amendment in our Bill of RIghts. Where would the organized military stand if some hypothetical future U.S. government started becoming oppressive in a Stalinist or Nazi manner? Having been in the military I know what most of the individuals would do, but the organization itself, the US DoD would likely still stand with the government. I don't see that scenario occurring, and pray that it never does. Oh, and if some invading army just wants New Jersey? They can have it. I live a few hundred yards from America and would gladly cede my current ground!
  6. Prayers going up for your boy, you and your family. God bless you all.
  7. Absolutely! I used the same type on my AR. You'll want to use the smaller aperture if conditions permit.
  8. Then by your Mosin here: http://www.jgsales.com/product_info.php/c/c-r-guns/p/mosin-nagant-91-30-hex-receiver-rifle%2C-7-62x54r-caliber-/cPath/290/products_id/1524 They've had a decent stock of them for a while. This is where I bought my son's and we're happy with it.
  9. Voted - love the picture. And Porsches (note my avatar). Good luck!
  10. The RWVA's suggested setup, at least for 100 yards and under, is a 10/22 with Tech Sights and basic GI Sling. Optics are fine, but you really need a sling that will work in at least one of their taught configs, preferably as a "loop" sling (only the front is attached to the rifle, the rear of the sling is in a loop on your arm). Tech sights aren't cheap (for non-glass), but work much, much better than the standard 10/22 sights. I used Wolf Match .22LR in a basic 10/22 with the sling and Tech Sights and was able to shoot Rifleman three out of four times in one weekend. This is someone who hardly gets to shoot and only started shooting two years ago. 11. Midway has some great mats for about $25. And wear snow/ski pants, they make all the difference. You don't want to get wet from melted snow. It's a lot of fun!
  12. The first day they take you through all the steps at a reasonable pace, you get a chance to zero your sights and shoot at their "Red Coat" target as well as the "Quick and Dirty Army Qualification Target". Day two they go over the instruction again, but much quicker. Also, the focus is on the AQT - you get multiple opportunities to score "Rifleman" on the AQT. I actually shot the qualifying score three times (on day 2) and my son made it twice. We also got the opportunity to shoot at the 100 yard range at Manheim. Appleseeds at other locations usually have longer ranges for the entire event, but Manheim does it at 25 yards. Believe Wojo - the smallest targets simulate 400 yard silhouettes and are about postage stamp sized. We earned the Winterseed patch, which is pretty nifty looking:
  13. I just wanted to throw this out there: The Appleseed program run by the Revolutionary War Veterans Association is definitely a worthwhile way to spend a weekend. I've been to their event twice in Manheim, PA and they now have one coming up a little closer near Philly. The event is all about riflemanship and the importance of marksmanship in the Revolutionary War. You meet some great people there and learn some good shooting techniques as well as interesting history. Doesn't matter what your'e shooting - I've seen ARs, 10/22s, bolt actions, etc. In fact, they had an 11-y/o girl earn their Rifleman badge using a bolt action! Impressive, when you consider some of the qualification rounds are timed. It's also apolitical and if you go political commentary isn't welcome, fyi. It's $70/person unless you're female (free), 21 and under (free), active, Reserve or Guard (free), police officer (free), disabled (free), or a re-enactor in period dress (free). Lots of information here: http://www.appleseedinfo.org/ My two cents.
  14. Absolutely! My next order will be from MidwestPX. BTW, speaking of stripper clips above, this magazine loader beats them hands-down: ProMag Magazine Loader AR-15 223 Remington 5-Round Polymer Black (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=926403)
  15. Oh, sorry, I missed that. Thanks for the slap! And nice writing there.
  16. Oh yeah, these?: http://midwestpx.com/index.php?cPath=15_72 Converted PMags, like RifleGear. I like the PMags a lot, but the C-Products are $13.95, vs the $20+ for PMags. Depends on your needs/wants I guess.
  17. For what it's worth, all this discussion about more magazine size restrictions (I though size didn't matter?) got me looking for more AR-15 15-round mags (.223/5.56). I know Cheyenne Mtn in Bordentown has/had some plastic ones (can't remember the brand, but not Magpul). A couple of other sources are: C-Products (direct purchase site): http://bit.ly/fIBxEX And Rifle Gear (modded 2-=round Pmags): http://bit.ly/f131rZ I have two C-products and they work fine. Hope this helps folks looking for these!
  18. "Rush Friggin Holt" - perfect name for my Congressman. Can anyone point me toward well-written arguments against magazine-size bans? I'm writing to R. Friggin Holt and just wanted some help with writing a rational, thought-out argument. Not that it would sway Friggin's mind, but it will make me feel better. sigh. Thanks!
  19. I'm not sure you're my type, but thanks for asking.

Hello and welcome from down the road (Ewing)! As for M4 types, avoid flash hiders and adjustable stocks (NJ believes these make guns too cool for its residents). And no mags over 15 rounds. I reccently picked up a nice LMT Defender 2000 in 5.56 from Cheyenne Mtn Outfitters. Really wish I had a flash hider - very sparky, especially in the dark.
  21. Yesterday, it was 83% siding with us and 13% with the abolitionists. Pretty clear the gunnies heard about it first and now the anti's are reacting. Online polls like this are essentially useless. However, I did vote. Twice. From the same computer. Which shows how ineffective the coding behind this poll is.
  22. Okay, changing my sig to "I hate this state."
  23. I have a Gerber and a Leatherman and prefer the Gerber. However, I just gave my son a two SOGs (an EOD in black and silver Powerlock) and they are very, very solid. A little larger and heavier than my 2, but they feel like tanks compared to the Humvee Leatherman and Gerber.
  24. Anybody know anything about this arrest? Open container I get. But the bayonet and knives? How are they illegal? New Hope man arrested for weapons: http://bit.ly/fjgwRI
