Firearms that use shotshells, ie shockwaves, also are not mentioned specifically in the rule. Are they affected?

I'm not sure about optics. I would say that that doesn't matter, because you can still cheek weld the extension. ATF "suggests" changing the CAR extension to a pistol extension.

Taking off the brace does not make it shorter. The >26"OAL is measured from the end of the receiver extension to the barrel's tip w/o the FH. And taking off the brace does not change the non-NFA classification. You still need two hands to use it.

I changed the post to "pin" the brace. 6' muzzle brakes are available.

Why not pin and weld on a muzzle break long enough to make it 16", and pin the brace.

I doubt it, as it has enough of a surface that could be shouldered.

The Tax Free website is now online and live. I just did (5) SBRs for pistols. The pistols will be the registered item, not the brace. I uploaded a pic of the receiver and firearm for each. As an FFL01/03, I had to pay for each form1 in the past, and had all intentions of making these pistols as SBRs but never got around to it. It saved me $1k. We'll see if it works and how long it will take.

Merry Christmas. Well, I spent my last awake hours this eve figuring out which smoke detector was going off for no reason. After changing 27 batteries, I ended up replacing a malfunctioning detector with a new one I forgot I had. There's a few hours of my life I'll never get back. Ho Ho Ho.
