  1. Let her try different guns. Go to a range that rents them and let her try. She wouldn't buy a pair of shoes that look good but were too big or too small, why buy a gun she hasn't "tried on". Plenty of ranges rent guns. Let her try and make an informed decision based on feel and comfort, not what you think looks good.
  2. Balloon. Woke up in the night and caught movement in the living room. My sons balloon was floating at head level and the ceiling fan was moving it around. I almost shot it.
  3. We use Foglio's on Rt 9 in Upper Township, Cape May County. Great customer service, great selection and great installation. We had a minor issue once and they came right out and fixed it.
  4. Monongahela National Forest, West Virginia, has trails, shelters and some nice places to see and relax; Blackwater Falls and Senica Rock to name a couple.
  5. Rifles. I like the look, feel and power of a rifle. I like being able to hit a small target at long distances and having repeatable accuracy. Of the rifle styles, I like Bolt Actions with nice wooden stocks.
  6. YES!!!! MDA, WBC, KKK, Black Panthers, etc ALL have the Right to peacefully assemble. Not to attack, not harass but to demonstrate.
  7. My neighbor has a 130 pound German Sheppard, Rocky, who comes to the property line when I get home and waits happily for me to throw a stick for him. I usually have a stick to toss and I pat him on the head before coming in my house. If I walk over there and punch the dog he will fight back, and any semi-intelligent person would say I deserved to get bit for hitting a dog on its own property. When any creature gets too close to a bear cub momma bear comes running to protect her cub. Piss off a bee, get stung. God has given every animal, including humans, a drive to protect themselves. I agree that some people dismiss anything that "God" is attached to. A coupe people may listen a little longer if "Natural Right" or "Human Right" replaced "God given right".
  8. NRA basic pistol will introduce her to a variety of guns, the basics of shooting and will give her confidence with guns. I don't know where you are, I'm an instructor down in Cape May County. PM for more details.
  9. I believe in starting with the basics like an NRA Basic pistol class. Any "tactical" class worth attending starts with, and reinforces, the basics. From there it is a matter of availability, timing and cost. I have done defensive or tactical classes with a few different instructors. They all went over static shooting then shooting on the move, shooting to stop (you don't shoot to kill or shoot to injure, you shoot to stop) then they all had different ideas of what next. After the shoot One instructor says to hold the gun muzzle up, another says muzzle down and a third says to re-holster. Some say to reload right away others say not to waste ammo with an early reload. The foundation will be the same, each instructor brings their own experiences and theory's with them. You will learn something new form any decent instructor. There is nothing wrong with starting local and affordable and branching out from there.
  10. You are smart to want some form of instruction and develop good habits instead of learning bad habits and trying to correct them later. Check the NRA instructor site for basic rifle classes in your area. Appleseed is also a great idea. you could also look into a rifle team in the area, high power or rimfire to hone your skills. When I shot High Power I got help from others to correct some of my novice mistakes.
  11. They look nice. I don't have those specific sights but I have a few pairs of fiber optic sights. The red front, green rear is a nice combination.
  12. I'm working the Medic Truck in Cape May County today. I don't know where you are but if you are in Cape May County and you call me because your tummy hurts and you have explosive diarrhea you will get no sympathy from me. I'll take care of you and I will lecture you on your poor dairy choices.
  13. Falling 6' gives you less time to think about your mistake.
  14. The rear sight may need to be tapped one direction or another after being installed. A punch and a small hammer can be used to make the adjustments at the range. Before removing the old sights use a piece of tape on the slide in front of the sight and mark where the sight notch is so when you install the new rear sight you will have it very close to where it needs to be.
  15. LOL. Not every chance but there is a 5/week quota.
  16. I have over 20 years in EMS with quite a bit of that time in Atlantic City. I have seen a few elevator shaft falls, they are always bad and survivors suffer life-long injuries. Koontz is right, use the safety gear or I get to see you naked.
  17. Good Morning. Welcome to the forum. I have a pair of XS Big Dot sights on one of my pistols and I like them. Installing sights isn't difficult, it takes a hammer, punch and most importantly patience. Bang the rear sight out to the left, add a drop of oil and bang the new sight in place. I'm in Cape May County and can assist you with that if needed. Check out the XS Sight - site http://www.xssights.com/
  18. Unless something has changed: you need to take BIT - Basic Instructor Training. It's an NRA class that takes a few hours and goes over the way the NRA wants things done.
  19. You can't go wrong with a Ruger 10/22. There are thousands of aftermarket parts for the 10/22 so you can buy a basic model and turn it into anything you want, even the basic models are accurate and reliable. I have a few 10/22's that are set up differently and are a lot of fun. You don't need to go big money on a scope for a 22, there is very little recoil to mess with the scope so a decent and basic scope will do just fine.
  20. My garden is along the concrete of my pool, so the back is along the pool fence and the front is defined by a 2x10 sunk into the ground. I did the 2x10 hoping to protect from moles, it seems to work. Each spring I pull out the plant remains, till the ground and add soil before planting. The raised bed above would protect from all sorts of little critters and you could even make a hose hook-up for a soaking hose, it's a cool bed but not necessary. I have a fenced in yard so the creatures I share with a mostly Mr and Mrs Turtle, occasionally a rabbit but the wolf urine I use to keep stray cats away also keeps the bunnies away.
