  1. I went to the range today and witnessed 2 AR guys that had no friggin clue how to use iron sights. They were shooting and I let them try my 30-30, and I had to explain iron sights to them. They couldn't believe I was busting clay birds on the berm regularly with irons.... I just was in a state of shock and couldnt help but think how many times recently Ive seen this.
  2. Does anyone even bother anymore learning to shoot with iron sights? I mean I know they are "antiquated" according to the tactical tupperware croud, but really? You rarely see anybody in the modern gun crowd shooting with irons anymore, everyone seems to be more interested in having every type of optic and magnifier and flash light possible mounted but wow.... You must learn the fundamentals of marksmanship before leaning on a crutch. I dont know what is going on in the gun world but it is turning into a strange place. Rather than taking the time to learn to shoot properly, people now just want to run around the range and act like a bunch of call of duty rejects. Come on, learn the fundamentals, the basics and become proficient before you move on.
  3. I think it is a mixture of both...... The mosin is crude has fought against itself in 2 world wars, and made to be used in the harshest conditions.. Now the other milsurps like 1903s and Enfields are far more refined and the price reflects that. The Americans made a target rifle (1903), the Germans made a hunting rifle (Mauser), and the Brits made a battle rifle (Enfield)......
  4. Well that is where we disagree. Here is a pic of my unissued Savage Enfield in the factory black cosmoline. I have been offered $800 for it as it sits, what makes it valuable is the fact that it is truly unissued. Now if I were to go clean it and shoot it, it then turns into a $350-400 gun. I myself know that it is going to stay the way it is and be uncleaned and unfired.
  5. For normal lubrication I use Mobil 1. It's my go to and I always have some in a syringe on my bench. I shoot almost every day when it's warm, and every range session I shoot more than most people do in a year, and I've never had a problem. Now if you have the need to lubricate a frog or some other funky thing just pretend Mobil 1 was created by a Seal and you shoot be good to go.
  6. ok a quick stupid thing with olive oil. I was given a k98 bringback from the vet that brought it home. He was never a true gun nut and never had gun oils so he used olive oil for the past 60 years. Well when he gave it to me the gun was almost sticky from dried out olive oil. took about a month of soaking to get it clean but it cleaned up nicely.
  7. I have personally seen a low number shatter. It had a 40's barrel on it and was a sporter deer gun, the guy shot it so much that he wore it out. We went to rebarrel it and as soon as the barrel broke free the receiver shattered like a piece of glass.... needless to say I will never shoot a low number
  8. Certain firearms are worth considerably more in the unissued/unfired state than a range gun. I have a few unissued guns and the rule of thumb is that they are only new once........
  9. I gotta find the article but a gun rag recently did long term testing on corrosion prevention and the best hands down was WD-40 Specialist corrosion prevention. The results were so huge of a difference that a few museums started using it.
  10. A friend of mine has one and he brought it to the range last year. I was the only one with enough balls to shoot it. Crude construction is an understatement.
  11. Nice gun. If you are ever up north let me know and I'll headspace it for ya.
  12. HXP is not corrosive, and great ammo. Most commercial ammo is loaded to anemic levels. I have shot the stuff out of many very high end rifles and it's fine for plinking ammo.
  13. Well I am off to work again first thing in the mornin. Gimme another 3 weeks fellas.

  20. Hey, let's post some pics of those rifles that had a hit. Let's all see the history, kinda like a show and tell.
  21. I will get to the newest wave of pm sometime tonight.
  22. Chrome lined bores are nice for corrosive ammo, and all Chinese are. Yugos aren't lined and often the barrels are trashed.
