  1. Tom, let's sidebar this conversation.
  2. LOL! Registration noted, and thanks for stepping up. With help, I think this can be a great thing. We all know we're outnumbered by the ignorant, this is an opportunity to shed light on the subject and continue moving the goalpost to our side of the field. Yes, I'm full well aware that we're also in a battle for public perception, but I also think most people won't take the name too seriously. And, for the record, I got a chuckle out of 'ORLDD'. Don't tempt me. I'll confer with the member whose idea it was and who named it. It'd be inappropriate to unilaterally change the name without consent. In the meantime, keep those ideas comin'.
  3. Hmmm... let's see. Compalints: 3 Suggestions: 0 If'n, y'all have any other ideas for names, I'd like to hear 'em. So far, there's just criticism, but no suggestions. It'd be more helpful if you'd help us promote the idea, and get like-minded gun owners signed up, instead of complaining about what we're calling it. One would think that a program that uses contemporary technology to push the envelope on the debate and bring it out of the shadows would be met with more enthusiasm.
  4. Harry, it was more a tongue-in-cheek reference than anything else. I wouldn't make more of it than there is. We could conceivably rename the program later, but for now, the results and your involvement are more important than what we call it.
  5. Dear friends of NJGF, Forgive the delay in posting this here, but we wanted to inform you all of a new program we've put together at the NJCSD. Here's the email we sent out a while ago announcing the program. Dear friends of the NJCSD, With so much news now migrating to electronic media and taking the anti-gun bias with it to the internet, we are presented with a new opportunity to combat the FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) that we have come to expect from the liberal news outlets. The new alert system via email and wll be called ‘KCS’ or, the Keyboard Commando Squad. We will use this list to send out ‘Fire Missions’ when we find out about articles that deserve either criticism or compliments by our community. However, this ‘alert system’ will be only as good as you members who bring things to our attention. We need you to be involved and have some skin in the game. Because many of you have demonstrated a talent for posting on various forums, bulletin boards and websites around the internet, we have set up a new emailing list to keep you informed of opportunities to comment on anti-gun bias to correct the misinformation that is presented. Or, of course, when you see an article which tells the truth, that deserves to be acknowledged and rewarded by our community as well. The goal is to have a 2-way system of communication with our members. Not only will you be alerted via Email and/or Facebook, but we will rely on you to let us know when you see something in the press, media or online that we ought to respond to. Here’s how it works. Whenever you see an article that is either negative or positive in the press or online about guns or self defense, let us know right away by sending an email to the designated address, we will confirm that the article is online, and send out an alert via Email, Facebook and Twitter (ID: NJCSD) containing a link to the article using our emailing system to those of you who sign up for this specific list. Remember, you must be logged into our main website to register for the KCS list. It costs nothing to sign up, but if you like what we're doing with this and other programs, we encourage you to join or renew. The KCS option will appear in your 'User Menu'. After that, the system will automatically include you in any alerts, but you must voluntarily sign up. If this system works as we hope, it will be a great way to become active in a way that’s fast, fun and easy. Feel free to comment on our forum! NJCSD/RK
  6. WASHINGTON TWP. - The New Jersey Coalition for Self Defense (NJCSD) in partnership with the Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Ownership (MCRGO) filed an Amicus Curiae (friend of the court) brief on Friday in support of the Second Amendment Foundation and Association of NJ Rifle and Pistol Clubs case against the State of New Jersey, which will be heard in United States District Court. Amicus Curiae briefs help explain legal issues, and are filed by interested parties in order to help courts reach proper decisions in complex cases. The case challenges New Jersey's concealed carry permit statute to determine whether it is in compliance with a recent US Supreme Court decision in McDonald v. Chicago which ruled that the Second Amendment to the US Constitution applies to all 50 states, meaning that no state can make a law that violates Second Amendment freedoms. New Jersey argues that it has the right to regulate guns as it sees fit, and that its laws do not violate Constitutional protections. Plaintiffs in the case contend that Americans have an absolute human right to defend themselves, a Constitutional right to do so with handguns, and that the right to both extends outside the home where the majority of crime occurs, obviating the need for a ‘carry permit’. The NJCSD and MCRGO posit in their brief that the state’s policies and statutes run afoul of Second Amendment protections and violate Constitutional principles. “Regulating a right into oblivion out of the reach of the citizenry is tantamount to not having those rights at all,” said Robert Kreisler, President of the NJCSD. “Imagine if you will a State in this day and age arguing that they can maintain Jim Crow laws where only certain citizens have rights, granting them selectively to those who are ‘connected’ while denying them to others. It’s repulsive to think of, especially when you pause to consider it's a fundamental right to safety and survival in question.” The two organizations observe that New Jersey’s exceedingly restrictive statutes have implications for citizens outside the state. "MCRGO is grateful for the opportunity to weigh in on this issue. Not only are we concerned about gun rights everywhere, but we are also interested in the safety of our members and other Michigan citizens who travel to, or through, New Jersey." Said Steve Dulan, attorney for the Michigan group and a member of their Board of Directors. With some 40 other states having systems by which to authorize firearms carry permits on a fair and reasonable basis to their citizens, it is widely speculated that New Jersey’s discretionary standard will be overturned at some point. Whatever the outcome, appeals are almost certainly to be filed after the District Court’s decision. The NJCSD is a volunteer citizen’s group founded in 2003 to protect our rights to defend ourselves. For information on the NJCSD, call 877-890-5460 or visit www.njcsd.org to learn more. The MCRGO is the nation’s largest state-based 2nd Amendment advocacy group with thousands of members. They can be contacted at 517-484-2746, or on the web at www.mcrgo.org # # #
  7. Things are heating up, folks. SAF makes motion for Summary Judgment. NJCSD Library - Laws & Court Cases Direct link: PDF of Motion for Summary Judgment
  8. Just thought y'all would enjoy seeing this. NJCSD Supports Landmark SAF Gun Rights Case Washington Township, NJ - The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) yesterday filed its case against the State of New Jersey for violating the Second Amendment rights of its citizens in the form of its arbitrary and capricious permit scheme and its narrow definition of “justifiable need”. The New Jersey Coalition for Self Defense (NJCSD), an in-state Second Amendment rights group, plans to submit an amicus brief in support of the case. Full article on our site via link above.
  9. Folks, this is just the first salvo. I know that everyone would like to wave a 'magic wand' to restore our liberty, but as we've always maintained at the NJCSD, our rights have been lost incrementally over decades and millions of dollars spent by the anti-gunners, so it will take at least as long to get it back. Please stay tuned. There's more good news to come. In the meantime, treat your investment in the future of your rights for 2nd Amendment advocacy as though you treat your 401k. Diversify your investment across the groups that you feel most closely mirror your philosophy on liberty. Keep an eye peeled to the NJCSD site for an announcement to come tomorrow AM.
  10. Stay tuned for announcements from NJCSD on further developments and ways to become directly involved in helping this case and others move forward.
  11. Folks, just a reminder that the deadline for booking seats is THIS FRIDAY the 12th. We're still short of enough seats to fill the bus. If you were on the fence about going, now is the time. Please pull out all the stops to be there. It's sure to be a lot of fun and a good time. There will be raffles and auctions on the bus, a 50/50, and best of all - you don't have to stress yourself out over driving. Please go to the NJCSD website to book your seat (link below) YES! Book my seat!
  12. Seats are still open. If we don't get to 55, the trip is going to cancel. We've priced this so close that we can't afford to have even a single seat open, so we're all in, or all out. We're coming up on our drop-dead date by which we need to decide to book or cancel. Please don't hesitate. The NJCSD now accepts Visa/MC in addition to PayPal for payment. All data is secured by SSL encryption. In the meantime, please take a moment to read the most recent OpEd on our main site.
  13. We were there, and also presented. Unfortunately our message got "lost in the sauce", but you can see our entered testimony on the main site here: LINKY. We'd like to take a moment to publicly thank State Senator Marcia Karrow (District 23) who was terrific, in that she pointed out the "elephant in the room" that we picked up on over a month ago, prompting our petition drive. That of the nine representatives of the Task Force, only one, perhaps two, are known to have pro-gun views disenfranchising us by overwhelming anti-gun bias. If the purpose of the Task Force is to understand the impact that New Jersey's laws have on law abiding gun owners, one would think that the committee would have been comprised with an inverse bias of 7 pro-gun representatives and only perhaps two anti-gun representatives. Other organizations were there seeking exemptions for retailers, wholesalers, distributors, collectors, sport shooters, club members, training instructors, but not a single presenter had our message. That no one group of law-abiding citizens should be entitled to any more or fewer rights than another, and that the only 'exemption' we could recommend would be one for any holder of an FID card. It was also interesting that the committee didn't seem to grasp the notion that this law had a severe impact on resellers, nor the difference between a retailer, wholesaler and manufacturer; and that these groups of distribution partners would be significantly affected. It seems that message got through, and Evan Nappen was very thorough in his presentation providing a very crisp legal argument and remedy for how to create the provision. What the Task Force does with the information is yet to be seen. NJCSD:RK
