  1. I concur with Matt... I have very few regrets in my life, but not serving is number one. I just feel like I didn't pull my weight. My Dad worked for Army research labs for 40 years so in my book he is covered. I went right to college and right to work. So, I humbly thank all that have served before me and will do so after me.

    1911 Suggestions

I went to BA last Monday to finally get some trigger time. I asked their opinion and was given Wilson Combat then S&W. Problem is the Wilson's are over 2 grand. Should I wait? I am not a big fan of waiting once I get my mind set on something but if the consenus is that it's worht it I guess I will... Also, that is the first suggestion of S&W 1911 that I got. Any more thoughts? Am I being too much of a pain in the a##?

Again thanks for the advice. I will save some money and research for a while. I'll check in when I have choices narrowed down.
  4. After searching old postings on legal magazines I am confused. I have a Springfield Armory XdM in .40SW. It came with two magazine that can hold 16 rounds. When I purchased it at BA they "dimpled" the magazines on three sides to limit the number of rounds to be placed in the magazine. I have read a bunch of postings on modifying high cap magazines. Is what they did for me legal? I do NOT want to get caught with illegal magazines. I never put more than 12 rounds in at once anyway. Any clarification would be appreciated.
  5. I am a partner in a civil engineering, surveying, and land planning (hence the PE in the user name) in Toms River. We actually helped with BA getting the ok from Lakewood Township when their application was contested by SS.

Thanks for all the information. Keep the suggestions coming. It may be a few months til I make the plunge. Have to be careful with my wife, you understand. Is there usually a back order issue with the higher quality 1911's? I know almost everything is somewhat in demand these days but... Just wondering. As I have said in other threads, this site is awesome and I really appreciate the sharing of information... Especially without attitude. Thanks
  7. I live on Sams Road which is near the Westlake retirement community. Been here since 03. Wife has been here since 96. Dead end street no traffic. Nice. From all that I read on this forum the Central Jersey club is top notch. I am very new at shooting (permits received February this year) but when I get a hobby I go in full bore. I practiced at BA two weeks ago and it cost me $100.00 for 200 rounds and I am a member there! That is what got me thinking of reloading my own. All the help I got on this forum in a few weeks is amazing. I really appreciate the comraderie and "no attitude" advice.
  8. Thanks Mauser. You're a member of Central Jersey, right? I live in Jackson about 15 minutes away and am considering joining up. For now I'll just start saving the spent casings. Any recommended reading for reloading or is it more learn by doing?

I think the next addition to my small collection will be a 1911 variant. Can you all chime in on likes and dislikes? I don't want to be duped by cool advertising and pretty pictures. From what little I know, I am expecting a quality 1911 to cost around $1100 or more. I am willing to wait to save up for a nice one.
  10. I don't want to hijack this forum but I was going ot post sort of the same question but for .38 or .40 rounds. Seeing the prices skyroket I figured hand loading might be a good idea. I have no idea what is involved, what the investment would be etc. Should I start saving spent casings from the range? Can you re-use these casings for re-loading? See? I need loads of info. A point in the right direction would be appreciated.
  11. Thanks for the welcome. Yes Maksim, I was the guy at BA. I love that XdM. Thanks for the tip by the way. My groups moved up toward the bullseye after I pointed my index finger of my support hand. I want to take a look at CJ one of these days. I didn't hear about it until recently.
  12. Greetings all, New guy from Jackson. Like a lot of others my newest obsession began after last November's election. I applied for permits in December and received them in February. I purchased a Ruger GP100,.357/.38 and a Springfield XdM in >40 S&W. I found shooting to be very therapuetic and have also been amazed by the friedliness of total strangers at the range. I am a member at BA and agree with a lot of the positive and some negative comments that i have seen on this site. The site is great. I have been looking for a site with advice from local fellow shooters for some time.
