Hmm, I have a Bushnell trophy on my Ruger Mark II and it's not blurry. If you bring it all the way up to your face does it get clear? Maybe I'll try to get a picture of it tonight if you don't get this sorted.

I like non-black revolvers. Black ones remind me too much of crappy 70s movies. Stainless reminds me of Bronson or Eastwood. I.E. Cool. The bad guys always carried POS 38s.

Howdy. This place is growing nicely.

do your friends know that you own firearms?
Malsua replied to aeromaks's topic in General Discussion
Everyone that knows me know I have guns. I've got a target with about 30 bullet holes in it that hangs in my office. All of the holes are in a nice neat circle about 2 inches in diameter. Not bad for a pistol at 50 yards. -
$1000 is cheap when it comes to a firearm that may save your life. My HK will fire if it is loaded and I pull the trigger, every time until the mag is empty, without fail. That's worth it at 5 times the price. The cops may keep it, but I have or can get others.

Mine was from Natchez so really unlikely they'd be from the same batch.

NICE! .50 BMG power out of a .223.

For pistols: Concerning the NRA affiliation, that would only apply towards NRA matches. Also mentions pistol license. The only pistol license I can think of in NJ is a carry license. A pistol "permit to purchase" isn't a license. The only thing that would bug me, a NY state goon squad looking for advancement and a photo op might cruise the parking lot looking for NJ plates. I know it's convenient, but unless you have the specific rules covered you are at risk. I'd like to shoot my pistols at Davis Shooting in Goshen but it's not worth a felony which would cause me to lose my guns forever and cost thousands of dollars and potentially jail time. In practice, you'd probably get away with it since you are just target shooting, I think it's just not worth it.

I ran 100 rounds of Rem UMC 9mm this morning in my HK P30. No problems whatsoever. In fact, I'm not sure if I wasn't a touch more accurate than the 100 blazer brass I ran. Recoil was about the same as Blazer but lighter than Lawman. That may explain the issues others have had. This was from 100 round packs.

HK P30 Never a single malf whatsoever.

Bringing a Handgun over state lines.

I can't tell you what NY statutes say about that. I suspect it's where your driver license says. NY may be a little different with all the snow birds who live in NY and FL -

Then you are not a resident of NY and cannot get a handgun license. That said, if you got a NY Driver license you could get the handgun permit for your NY residence. I suppose it really depends on where you want to pay your taxes. If you work in NJ but your primary residence is in NY, you're going to get double dipped for taxes so that'd be a bad idea. I'm sorry, I did not mean a drivers license....I meant FID What I'm asking is; can I take my gun to NY where I have a house, while on vacation. Only long guns. You can only possess handguns with the proper licensing...which requires residency...which requires a driver license for the most part although there are other ways to establish residency. -
Yes because no one is allowed to hunt them so they breed like rats.

Yes, it is called the police.. But why? (I feel a "because NY is retarded" answer brewing) Because you cannot legally have a handgun in NY without a license with very few exceptions like Olympic training. You cannot get a license in NY if you are not a NY resident. The federal laws on transport only apply if you are taking a gun from a place that it is legal, to a place where it is legal. Since you can have no legal destination inside of NY to have a gun, the federal laws do not apply. In other words, don't do it. If you are transporting through NY and have more than 5 handguns, it is already determined that you are going to sell them illegally and the punishment gets harsher. If you are ever traveling through NY to elsewhere, make sure the firearms are locked separate from the ammo. -

This looks like the bear that visited last Sunday. This week is the first time I think I've seen this one. Sometimes we get long periods with no bears then we get them every few days for months. We're in a busy period right now as we're seeing them almost every day. I was thinking that a .357 might be enough and that could make for the next gun. I am leaning towards a .44 mag just because I'm comfortable with one and have run many many shots through one.

Yesterday my wife called and said that a bear was molesting one of my gas cans. He emptied it, rolled around in the gas and hung around the yard for about 25 minutes. It was a big black bear.(I posted a thread about it on NewjerseyHunter.com) In August 07 we had a bear attempt to enter our kitchen through the window on the deck. My wife scared that one off with some wooden poles for a single seat tree swing that just happened to be inside at the time. I have a 12ga that I keep 5 rounds of 00 buck in a sleeve on the stock. I also have slugs that are right there that I can grab. I understand that the various handgun grizzly calibers, .460, 454casull, 50 cal will work but I'm wondering what is good on the lower end. I don't believe a .45 is enough. A .40 might be and a 10mm probably would be. I used to shoot a .44 magnum with a 10inch barrel frequently and I'm leaning towards that, but the question is, what is something that my wife could potentially handle(she's small) and is also fun to shoot yet lethal to drop a black bear. My 9mm with a 15 round mag would probably do the trick by the time the mag is empty, but I'd prefer something a little better than that. I don't know what the word is on a .357 and black bear. I've never hunted bear, much less with a pistol, I really don't know what is considered a minimum. Thoughts? Here's the bear in question as he was molesting my gas can. He had also stopped by the Sunday before Memorial day.

I store my ammo in army surplus .50 cal containers. They are sealed and handing to use. You can typically get them for $5/piece at gun shows or a bit more on Ebay.

Look What's Happening Next Door

Complete insanity. By the vote, it passed out of whatever body was voting on it, kind like what a Canada geese do all over the yard. -
Anyone in NJ (near NYC) that will do FFL transfers, always?

I don't know if Jim does the email thing. Give him a call tomorrow. His closes around 4:30pm, IIRC. Action Shooters Supply 267 Haledon Ave Prospect Park, NJ 07508 (973) 942-6464? That's great...I drive 208 every day, this guy would only be a few miles out of my way. -
I love my Mark 2. I've been shooting a Mark II for 25 years(step dad). I bought my own in the early 90s and have only had to add a Volquartsen Exact Edge Extractor to it after it started to stove pipe once in a while. It's a great gun. I added a red dot scope to mine and it's really accurate. I love it.

For the sheer amount of practice you can get done, a .22 pistol should be in your mix. After that, buy them for how you intend to use them. Night stand, concealed etc.

Break-Free CLP?
-
That's exactly the kind of thing that I would do because I like to do fun things. I'd mount them to a in a spot that will allow each piece to get equal treatment. Paint the board up nice and even label it. Something like "Protectant torture test". Make sure each piece is treated the same way from the start...maybe hit it with steel wool first to really expose the base metal then apply various chems. Make sure you include Break-Free and Rem oil. Those are what I use
