  3. Here's some salt for your wounds. I made my short loop in PA today. Tanner's, Clayton's and Classic Pistol. All were busy with sales and NICS seemed to be instant. If anyone wants a inexpensive AR,Tanners has at least a pallet and a half M&P Sport models in 556/223 for $556.00.
  4. Saw one at French Creek Outfitters in Phoenixville PA. a couple of weeks ago. Looks like a really nice rifle. My son and I went to six gun shops that day and they were the only ones to have the Ruger American rimfire. He ended up buying a CZ 455 Lux.
  5. Only have one thing for you. The ratcheting sound at 4 mph is probably not the transmission. If it has anti-lock brakes the noise you hear is the ABS self testing.
  6. Don't know where to look locally. I have bought several sets of Burris Signature Zee rings from Optics Planet and Talley one piece ring/mounts directly from Talley Manufacturing. When I called Talley for clarification when choosing a set, the company president answered the phone. Very helpful!
  7. The title says it all. Although I can't believe it's 3 PM and I'm the first to acknowledge the event. Where the heck is tbtrout when you need him? Here is an excerpt about it. Marine Corps Birthday: (excerpt from Warrior Culture of the U.S. Marines, copyright 2001 Marion F. Sturkey) All U.S. Marines are gung-ho. But, few can match the vision and total commitment of the famous 13th Commandant, Gen. John A. Lejeune. In 1921 he issued Marine Corps Order No. 47, Series 1921. Gen. Lejeune's order summarized the history, mission, and tradition of the Corps. It further directed that the order be read to all Marines on 10 November of each year to honor the founding of the Marine Corps. Thereafter, 10 November became a unique day for U.S. Marines throughout the world. Soon, some Marine commands began to not only honor the birthday, but celebrate it. In 1923 the Marine Barracks at Ft. Mifflin, Pennsylvania, staged a formal dance. The Marines at the Washington Navy Yard arranged a mock battle on the parade ground. At Quantanamo Bay, Cuba, the Marine baseball team played a Cuban team and won, 9 to 8. The first "formal" Birthday Ball took place on Philadelphia in 1925. First class Marine Corps style, all the way! Guests included the Commandant, the Secretary of War (in 1925 the term "politically correct" didn't exist; it was Secretary of War, not Secretary of Defense), and a host of statesmen and elected officials. Prior to the Ball, Gen. Lejeune unveiled a memorial plaque at Tun Tavern. Then the entourage headed for the Benjamin Franklin Hotel and an evening of festivities and frolicking. Over the years the annual Birthday Ball grew and grew, taking on a life of its own. In 1952 the Commandant, Gen. Lemuel C. Shepherd Jr., formalized the cake-cutting ceremony and other traditional observances. For example, Marine Corps policy now mandates that the first piece of cake must be presented to the oldest U.S. Marine present. The second piece goes to the youngest Marine. Among the many such mandates is a solemn reading of the Commandant's birthday message to the Corps. Like the U.S. Marine Corps itself, the annual Birthday Ball has evolved from simple origins to the polished and professional functions of today. Nonetheless, one thing remains constant, the tenth day of November! This unique holiday for warriors is a day of camaraderie, a day to honor Corps and Country. Throughout the world on 10 November, U.S. Marines celebrate the birth of their Corps -- the most loyal, most feared, most revered, and most professional fighting force the world has ever known.
  8. I wonder the same thing. Being in the auto repair business I see many failed "plastic" parts after only 6 or 7 years. Coolant fittings and intake gasket frames crumbling are the worst. Also many plastic trim parts become brittle and break when subjected to the stress of disassembly. Guns are not subjected to the same environment as engine parts but it makes me wonder. I have one polymer frame gun and don't plan on more. I know steel guns last at least 100 years as long as they are kept free of rust.

    Beretta PX4

Have had a PX 4 45 SD for a while. It is soft shooting and 100% reliable. It is my primary HD gun. I never tried for accuracy past 15 yards but at 7 yards, I can do rapid, less than 5 inch groups all day without trying. I figure that's good enough to stop a bad guy. I also mounted a LaserMax on the rail. As far as a fat grip, It is fatter than my Sig 45 (P220) but the Sig is single stack the Beretta is double and holds two more rounds. I added a Hogue finger groove sleeve because the polymer is too slick. Love this gun for it's intended use.
  10. Pizza Bob is on the mark with his answer. You will not only find different rifles like different ammo, you will find different lots of that ammo shoots better or worse. I try to shoot rimfire bench rest targets. For two different rifles I have two different brands of ammo. If you want consistency you must use premium ammo. I have had excellent luck with Lapua Midas Plus in my Thompson Center Benchmark semi-auto. My Cooper bolt action really likes Eley Match. Thankfully that is their second most expensive line. With the less expensive grades like SK jagd Standard Plus or Wolf Match Extra I can get many good 4 shot groups but almost never five. Always that one stinking flier. With bulk ammo forget about it. Now then I am talking about real tight groups, less than 1/4 inch at 50 yards with the good stuff. I use SK Standard plus or Wolf Match Extra for everyday stuff and the others when I get serious. Wolf rimfire ammo and SK are made by Lapua and are the same stuff. Not the same as center fire Wolf. So try to find a variety of good ammo and see what your gun likes. As to where to find it. These days you have to watch all the sources constantly because when they get it in it can be gone in a matter of hours. For Eley, Lapua, RWS, and other premium brands watch Bruno Shooters Supply Champion's Choice - Home Page Champion Shooters Supply LLC Good Shooting Sales and Service Inc E. Arthur Brown Company Inc - Home Page for eabco.com .22 Benchrest Supplies - KSS Right now a few places have Eley Match, Edge and Tenex. Federal Premium Gold Medal Match is made by RWS and is good. Federal bulk not so good. Sometimes you can find Remington Eley also good. Plain Remington 22 ammo not so good.
  11. There is no work requirement. If you work you can get money off your dues. If you attend 4 regular member meetings you get $50.00 off your dues. I have never paid more than $150.00 for my yearly dues. I usually only pay $100.00 because I sign up new members, volunteer and attend meetings. Sorry I just looked at the rest of the posts and I'm a little late with this.
  12. Most all Eley 22lr is sub sonic. Tenex, Match etc. are listed at 1085 but can vary by 35 fps up or down. The velocity of a particular lot, or batch, will be on the label. I have not shot the Sub sonic but have shot many bricks of Tenex and Match. My S & W M41 does not like Eley. My Cooper bolt action rifle shoots .3 MOA groups with Eley Match. My Thompson Center semi auto rifle prefers Lapua Midas Plus but will settle for SK or Wolf most of the time. My Marlin 39 likes anything. By the way Wolf Match Extra is the same ammo as SK Standard Plus. For most semi auto pistols CCI SV is the hot ticket if you could find it. I checked around the other day and couldn't find any. SK Jagd Standard Plus is very good also. For plain old plinking, anything that has enough recoil to cycle the action is good. CCI Mini Mags are popular too. With a 22 you need to try as many varieties as you can because your gun will usually have a preference. http://www.championshooters.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&view=productdetails&virtuemart_product_id=1433&virtuemart_category_id=46&Itemid=111Has Wolf Match Extra in stock for $7.50 a box. Good stuff. They probably have less than a case as they are not allowing full cases to be ordered right now.Buy at least a brick (10 boxes) if you can. Shipping should be about the same. HTH
  13. Freddie's Tavern, W. Trenton. Rossi's in Chambersburg. These two aren't too bad. I like Rossi's best around here.
  14. I'll give a +1 for Frankie's in Pt. Pleasant. Haven't been in a while might be time for another visit.
  15. I am exploring my options for action and will definitely pursue whatever avenues I can to exercise my rights.
  16. Well I started the process last week. I called to speak to person in charge of firearms permits and of course no answer, I left a message. They called me back today, three business days later. The officer asked what I called for and I told him I wanted to apply for more handgun purchase permits. He said the next available appointment is 10:00 Tuesday July 2, 2013. I said I want to hand in the applications. He said I can not hand in applications until July and if I try to apply before that I would be turned away. That's right, can't even hand them the application for four weeks. Reason for the delay is "because I have to start working on them when I get them and there are 22 people ahead of you." So you can't even apply in Ewing without a BS wait. Thanks for letting me vent. I will keep you all posted as things develop.
  17. OK. He stopped to see me this evening and his permits are in. He has called every week and stopped in person to check a couple of times. When he called today he got the story they tried to call and no one answered every time. When he called and left messages he gave his cell phone number as that's the one he uses. They claimed not to have that number but they did. He asked they call him back on that number every time he called. Anyhow, his permits have been sitting since 4/29/13.
  18. Has anyone applied for and received FPID and/or Permit to purchase handgun in Ewing since January 1, 2013? If so how long did it take? I used to get handgun permits in 4-5 weeks. A close friend applied first week of February and is still waiting for his FPID and 2 Handgun permits. I think there has been a change in policy with someone new in charge?? Thanks Jim
  19. After reading some replies on this post and others, it's a wonder some of you even leave the house.
  20. Wow! I didn't know I had a turd on my rifle. Sure doesn't smell like a turd. I have the Eotech 557AR223 and it's still going strong with the same AA batteries I put in it three years ago, even though I forget to turn it off once in a while. Has held zero and never given me a problem. I tried a T1 Aimpoint before buying the Eotech and liked the Eotech better. If I had it to do over I probably would have bought a lower priced model because I don't need the extra ability to use night vision. Try a few different sights if you can and make up your own mind.
  21. I would be in for a couple of what ever shape 8, 10 or 12" but only at 1/2" thick.
  22. In addition to the stickers on my car this is my front door.
  23. Only been pulled over once in the last 20 plus years and was on 195 going to CJR&PC. Trooper was nice to me. No ticket and no BS type questions. I've only had positive responses from the stickers. Usually get a thumbs up if anything. Where the larger NJ2AS sticker is on the bumper used to be a Protect Our Borders sticker but it wore out. Only reason I put a sticker on the painted bumper is it's covering a dent. FYI Patriot Post Shop has a nice selection of stickers, patches and such.
  24. Here's my stickers.I was thinking of putting more and larger ones on. I am tired of people being afraid to speak out for what they believe. If you're too pussified to advertise your position, you have no position. "Oh, I support gun rights but I don't want to get involved." Kiss my ass. This post is directed at whoever fits the description. Thank you.
