  1. The end of the world! One of my favorite Unibroue! Those Canadians make some great stuff! I highly recommend buying their special glasses to drink their brews from. They design specific glassware for each of their creations. And it makes a difference in the taste. I met the Brewers in Vermont a few years back at the state brewers festival. It was awesome trying everything they brought fresh from the keg. Honestly if someone gave me a last request, it would be a Unibroue selection for sure.

I grab some coming back from fishing in Canada. Great labels, to boot!

  2. Really??? I read you had to be Police or a Waldwick Resident.  That's great news!  Thanks for the tip.

There are a limited number of openings each year (10, if I remember correctly) available for non-Waldwick applicants whose police use the range for qualifications. That's how I became a member. I had to wait for 2 1/2 years to be voted in, however, since I was lower on the wait list. PM me if you're interested.

  3. As the father of two girls, my opinion is to hold off until she is old enough to understand what a rifle can do. Maybe that's not the right phrasing, but what I mean is that eventually it can be a bonding experience between you and her when she's mature enough to handle one.

I bought my daughter a Rossi .22 single shot, with a switchable .410 shotgun barrel in pink. Bought it for a Christmas present, but it was a week before Newtown, so I've waited to give it to her. She's now 9, so I'll probably wait until late June to try it out with her. My point is, when she is ready, you two can share the experience of trying them out and purchasing one, together, and create memories. Besides, you'll need your cash for late night diaper runs to the store.

  4. As a Catholic I was raised to believe that suicide is forbidden, and I know that no matter how bad life gets you down you keep on pushing through.

But as a human I have seen close friends and family go through terrible illnesses, only to die long, painful deaths, from such horrible illnesses as ALS (37 year old wife of my best friend, and my daughter's namesake) to both of my grandfathers from cancer. That's just skimming the surface. I am for patients' choice.

  5. Quick question or two. Has anyone received a shipping notification yet? They emailed me to tell me that they received my order, but for the life of me I can't find it in any folders.

If anyone received the same message, could you please post the address that it came from? Thanks.

  6. So a friend of mine, a former Marine, applied for an fid in Mahwah. I was one of his references, handed it in person the day after I got it. That was back in March. As far as I know the other references were also returned in a timely manner.

Here it is, the end of August, and he hasn't been notified yet. I've heard that Mahwah is usually pretty good at getting those out "relatively" quickly.

    Think he should start calling?

  7. Dang, no Eagle Scouts in my house. Two girls, almost 9 and 7. We try to teach them respect for their elders, saying please and thank you, and we say our prayers every night together.

Although neither my wife nor I served in the military, we have friends and family who have. Our girls understand that, and they know to thank, with a handshake and a hug, any man or woman who presents themselves as a veteran.

  8. Thanks for taking time to respond. I don't have much land, but the neighbors do. Nothing crazy, next door neighbor has about an acre. The problem is that all the surrounding properties drain behind my property, into a wooded area that's somewhat wetland-ish. Soggy soil and leaves. I've used the Off hose spray in the past, it worked for a week or so, and every application afterwards didn't seem to do anything.

I'll check up on the Thermo cell, as of now I don't know what it is.

    Thanks again.

  9. So now that spring is turning into summer I have already seen my fair share of the tiger mosquitoes. I live in northern nj, and my property is somewhat moist and wooded, with lots of shade. Very damp beyond the backyard.

I plan on building several bat houses after school lets out next week, but I was wondering if any of you have had success with any insecticides to reduce the mosquito population.

I'm looking for something that will attach to the hose and mix with the water. Keep in mind that I have two dogs and two kids. All four can be kept away from any treated areas if need be.

Thanks in advance for your input.

  10. My question ...Will it be worth it? I can pinch and suck heads with the best of them but past experiences have been less that authentic....usually under seasoned, mudbugs imported from China and children's portions at more than adult prices.

Duppie, I've been following some of your posts with regards to food, and I am impressed with your experience. I'm a born and bred north Jersey boy, but I have been to Jazz fest in New Orleans 6 or so times (lost count) and the Big Easy about 11 or so times. If it wasn't for the humidity and the termites I'd be writing this post from there. That being said, Crawfishfest is the closest you'll come to an outdoors music fest with genuine N'awlins food. They ship in like 5 tons of Louisiana crawfish the night before. I've been to about 10 crawfishfests, and have seen some great bands.

Unfortunately, my daughters' dance recitals have always been scheduled that same freaking weekend for the past three years. I've missed out on a lot of Meters, Cowboy Mouth, and Long Tall Marcia Ball!
