I was really hoping to see you all tomorrow but I can't make it I was stranded in an airport since Tuesday so I was really looking forward to hanging out with you guys! I didn't realize that there was a layer of ice on the stairs. When I fell I landed hard on my back and hit my head. My doc wants to see me first thing in the morning.

To minimize the possibility of side effects like difficulty seeing at night, halos, starbursts and glare you should have a custom wavefront diagnostic evaluation done. That's the only way to measure higher-order aberrations (HOAs) which can then be corrected during the procedure. I underwent custom PRK in August and it was worth the extra money over the regular PRK procedure.

Did you purchase a lower receiver yet? The Surplus Arms & Ammo lowers from AIM are a bargain at $59.95. I heard they're actually made by Aero Precision. Don't skimp on the lower parts kit. I would not buy another DPMS LPK because their QC is hit or miss. Their trigger guard roll pins are known for being too tight and triggers can be gritty. A Daniel Defense LPK is a much better option. An AR build party would be fun but the clubhouse, especially on match day, isn't the ideal location to do it. A sturdy vise is required if you want to attach a barrel to an upper receiver. There are lots of tiny parts involved, some of which need to be hammered into the lower receiver. Springs and detents are under tension so they have a tendency to launch, never to be seen again. If that happens you're screwed until you can get a replacement part.

It was great to shoot with the CSS crew again and also make some new friends. I hope that everyone had fun and plans to shoot IDPA again. Moose, I'm happy with my accuracy but with so few points down I learned that I need to speed it up. Competing in IDPA is a good way to measure your limits because you're balancing speed and accuracy.

I haven't shot in an IDPA match in a couple of years so I'll try to make it. If you're new to IDPA don't worry at all. Just think of it as a day of shooting with your friends. What could be better than that? I know you're going to have a great time!

I'm definitely a member of Team CSS but I had a great time hanging out with all of you, and that's the most important thing. I can't wait to shoot steel plates again! I've still got that sound in my head.

Shooting those steel plates today was a blast. I really liked the instant gratification that the sound gives you. I can’t wait to do that again!

The great thing about the AR platform is that you can easily customize it. That's the main reason why I wouldn't buy an AR off the rack at a shop. Instead I'd suggest buying a stripped lower and assembling the rifle with quality parts that you select. That way you won't be paying for parts that you'll be replacing or upgrading. There are step by step videos to walk you through the assembly process on the Brownell's website. It's not difficult and you'll learn a lot about your AR.

This thread has taken me down memory lane. The first time I shot a gun was in the basement of the local PAL when I was about 8 or 9 years old. Teaching kids to shoot is inconceivable to some parents today but the PAL had a structured program that emphasized saftety and the fundamentals of marksmanship. We used old single shot .22 rifles and open sights. As I recall the instructors were always telling me to slow down because I had a tendency to shoot too fast and run through all my ammo. Well, I suppose some things never change I wasn't a very good shot but I had a great time anyway. By the way, does anyone remember Edelman's in Wayne? The article is looking great so far! You've covered the safety aspect well, and that's the most important thing. Maybe you can include a paragraph on making it a fun, memorable experience for the child. I like SpecialK's idea of shooting at clay targets and letting them keep a piece. I always start new shooters with Shoot N See targets so they can peel them off the backstop to keep as a memento.

Good point! .22 conversion kits are a great training tool for new shooters. You'll get a whole lot of trigger time with a brick. There's not much muzzle blast or recoil so you can really concentrate on improving your trigger pull and maintaining the correct sight picture. I'd suggest checking out the Advantage Arms .22 kit for Glocks and the Tactical Solutions .22 kit for 1911s.

There won't be many people shooting at Range 14 once it gets really cold. Sometimes you might be the only one on the firing line.

Thanks to Ray and Chris for organizing an awesome range day! It was good to see so many of my old buds from the "NJ Blast" days at Range 14 again and making a whole bunch of new friends. I can't wait to do it again.

Hey Moose, do you have any .40 on hand? I can bring both for you to try back to back, a G34 and G35... but I don't have any ammo for the G35 since I only shoot 9mm and .45 now.
