  1. So I take it you were able to buy the mags for the price posted on the website despite not being involved in Law Enforcement? I ask because some of my findings in their magazine offers feel a little to good to be true if the LEO catch is specific to guns. Not only have 8 round M&45c mags available, which is rare in general, but they're listed at only $25 a piece. Cheapest most M&P mags seem to go for is usually $32 on sites like CTD.
  2. Perhaps I'm poorly versed on the challenges the police would face in investigating this further, but not forseeing any additional arrests seems odd. Are there no plans to look into who provided the handgun illegally in the first place?
  3. It seems that every article detailing this incident is from the less than mainstream press. It also seems to have left out a great deal of the facts. How does this individual go from moving with his firearm's being secured in the truck to be given the paperwork for the search? It makes absolutely no sense. Did they spot it from a spy satellite? X-ray? That is in part due to only advocacy sources being interested in the story, who obviously do have something of an agenda in printing the story. But mainstream disinterest doesn't mean its a fabrication. I dug a little more and found this link, http://www.the-912-project.com/2009/07/26/brian-aitken-follows-new-jersey-gun-laws-and-now-faces-7-years-in-prison/. It indicates the police were dispatched in response to a 911 call during a verbal argument with his parents, which I guess he left by car. Are there probably additional details that paint him in a less sympathetic light? Perhaps, but if it was that kind of a scenario, why wouldn't he be charged with things that were actually against the law(threats, assault, etc)? If the guy was acting erratically or seemed dangerous, fine, take the ammo, arrest him, and prosecute him for making threats/evading police/assault/etc. But that's not what police did. Instead he was arrested based on the claim that his ownship of the ammunition was unlawful. It could be a simple mistake if it had ended there, but it didn't and the state is continuing to pursue charges against him for ownership of hollow point ammunition. Ownership of ammunition that plenty of lawful NJ gun owners presently have in their possession, via perfectly legal purchases at gun shops, Dick's sporting goods, etc. Ownership that is legal under NJ law.
  4. That could very well be a cra*shoot in itself. I know many that are well educated and know the law to a large degree but even the best of lawyers can't answer without researching the topic. I worked for a rather large law firm for many years and got to know several quite well and on a personal level. They aren't the sleaze that they are made out to be with few exceptions as any generalization would find. But the are highly specialized and know their area of expertise well and other areas outside that frame little without research. While not my prime function, many times I would have to school them in certain procedures. I gave one a Cliff book version of Breathalyzer operation until we realized it was my arrest and her client in another jurisdiction. One came crying to me she got a speeding ticket and I had to come to court with her. She had never been before a judge. The point is, be wary of who you take advice from as it's your butt on the line. I've found my local police dept. to be very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. They're the ones enforcing the laws...makes sense to me to ask them about the laws they are paid to enforce. If they tell me something is legal, then they're not going to give me grief about it. I think we need to calm down. You only need to fear "the man" if you're doing something wrong, just as the Bible says... Romans 13:3-5 (NLT) - For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right, and they will honor you. The authorities are God

    M&P advice.....

One possible tie-breaker could be checking to see if any of the models have a lesser availablility of spare parts & accessories. I mention it because I bought the M&P45C not long ago, and while I love the gun itself, I've been a bit frustrated with the limited options for holsters & attachments. Plus the 8 round magazines for the 45C have proven to be hard to find and expensive. This might ease eventually and may not even be an issue for you as the M&P models you're looking at have been out a bit longer than the 45C, but I can speak from personal experience when I say it's probably worth checking into before you buy.

    Sarco

Sarco is close enough to me that it wouldn't be tough to pop in and take a look on the showrooms late night, but my expectations will be pretty low given what I've heard in the thread. I already found the prices listed online for the showroom guns a little high(for what I was looking at), so the store will be pretty DOA if the prices are even higher in person.
  7. Perhaps the problem lies between the keyboard & chair, but I've found the gun auction sites terrible for browsing & price comparisson unless you're already keyed in on a specific model. The auction format transforms something as simple as sorting by price into a cumbersome & unenjoyable time eater because I have to flip through pages and pages of listings at $0.01 which tell me nothing about the price the guns are going for.
  8. I just bought my first HG ever(Glock 19) and I've got one more HG permit to use sometime in the next 2 1/2 months. Since I have regular access to a .22 for shooting on the cheap, I've decided to use the second permit towards a revolver. After considering what I'm looking to use the revolver for as well as my current preferences and budget limitations, I'm looking for a high quality revolver that bears the following qualities: - Chamber for .357 Magnum ammunition. I'd like the gun to be viable for home defense as well as a good range gun, so what I've read about .357 magnums sounds perfect since I could target shoot with .38s to keep the cost of regular shooting down. - A 4" or 5" inch barrel. - Double action. Probably a moot requirement as it seems one would have to go out of their way to end up with a single action revolver. -Is not a Taurus. I have no personal experience with this brand, but I was advised against them by someone who's opinion I value. -Can likely be bought new for pretty close to $500 from a retail store in NJ. Given my checklist, could anyone recommend some models I should look into and/or consider for the purchase? The Ruger GP100 seems like a good fit, but I'd like to find a few other options and have generally been finding mostly snub noses among revolvers in the $500 range.
  9. Is anyone actually placing these 12 week backorders & getting the conversion kits within that time frame? With online ordering in general, my general experience has been that when a site indicates it will be months before they will even consider charging you for the order, the end result is usually a fruitless wait that ends with an e-mail indicating your backorder has been cancelled because they simply aren't going to be able to fill it.
  10. I'm currently waiting out the process of obtaining my F.I.D. and 2 permits to purchase handguns. Does anyone know if it is legal or illegal to put a deposit down on a handgun at a gun shop while I'm waiting with the actual purchase & transfer not occuring until I have obtained the FID & permit? I'm as green as they come on this subject, so forgive me if there are some pretty obvious reasons a gun shop would never agree to do this for a customer.
  11. Anthony, Shaun & I want to say thanks again for the awesome training last night. You really know how to keep things informative and enjoyable at the same time. We're both chomping at the bit to get our own handguns so we can head back to the range. Don't worry, we'll do plenty of dry firing first when we do make our purchases. Shaun's pretty sold on the Beretta. I'm actually considering it myself as its a fun gun to shoot. To anyone considering a class at Gun for Hire, I recommend it highly. It's a very enjoyable class with plenty of high quality instruction as well. -Rich
