Anyone come across an American Made forestry aka chainsaw helmet? This is a hard hat with a face screen/shield, sometimes with integrated ear muffs. Ear muffs are not important, the hard hat part is less important, I really just want it for keeping sawdust out of my face.

None of the ones I find online bother to list origin, which typically means China, Taiwan, etc...

You will pay a lot more for non Chinese/Taiwan made helmets.   I haven't seen any US made ones but there are ones made in Austria, Italy and France.  They are for pro's >$200 per

We have to qualify 2x a year with a minimum of 3 months between quals.

With many towns sharing ranges, it is not something that can just “happen” last minute or without long term scheduling.

The AGs office has suspended/extended many training requirements/deadlines.

They will not extend or suspend firearms qualifications.

Yes it is a priority, and yes we are qualifying people.

My comment was not meant as a dig at cops.  Its just a simple fact that shooting is a perishable skill.  If cops need to practice to be proficient so do regular people.  Are LEO's any less likely to spread a virus than regular people?

It was just meant to show the hypocrisy of the "shutdown".

That update came through my email this morning and I just now had a chance to actually read and ponder it.

Clearly, I call BS on closing all ranges. Even more so outdoor and private.

I am undecided if I fully agree with the decision by ANJRPC to drop the matter (or at least not file a lawsuit) at this time. Reasonable people can debate that.  What I am fully pleased with is the transparency and explanation behind the decision.

Except they didnt close "all" ranges.  The police ranges are still open.  Are police any less likely to have /transmit this virus?  Nope.  So why are police ranges open but private ranges not?

Yeah, I know.  Its a rhetorical question.

ranges will be open soon enough if they keep pressing but I'm against opening Indoor ranges. Most if not all have special high pressure HVAC systems for the range to remove lead fumes. Some of the indoor ranges I've gone to the airflow has been strong enough where you're still inhaling the blowback, if there are shooters there unknowingly carrying the virus the risk of pollenating others is pretty high.

I'm not opposed to outdoor clubs being open, after all they're not public businesses.

If you are sucking fumes, the exhaust is designed wrong.  It is supposed to be blown from behind you downrange where it is filtered and exhausted.  How is a place that is filtering and venting air worse than say going to the super market where there is ZERO airflow?  I often go to my range and am the only one in there.  Not touching face (unless you like the taste of lead). Hand washing at end of session yep.

Sounds like the safest place on earth,

This is the conundrum. But it’s also a slippery slope. If all rights stripped keeps us safer, why have any rights?.  RI just reinstalled it’s EO to anyone entering must quarantine for 14 days. Other states are following suit.

The good of the many vs the one is the lib argument to disarm us all

Can anyone explain to me how drawing this out to maximize the number of people exposed and re-exposed and re-exposed again, is for the benefit of the many?  How many times will you need to self quarantine because someone where you work, shop, exercise etc now has a case?  Please do tell what is the exit plan? How those that are "at risk" eventually go shopping again?  See their grand-kids?  etc etc etc.

Making people introverted, people interaction fearing hermits.  Yeah that's a proven winner.

Anyone have a number of people that died because they did not have a respirator?   No I didn't think so.   How about Cuomo's stockpile of unused respirators?

There's going to be a LOT of pissed off business people and others who got fired, that realize they got shut down because of the flu..

I doubt there will be any MORE pissed off people.  The rest will be "What if we didn't shut down,  see it worked".

Good thing I just installed Neon Red Elephant repellent at my house imagine how bad it would be if I didn't.

    There you go. Facts!!

    I don't qualify either.

Go figure, the people who DON'T qualify are actually the same people that pay the majority of the federal taxes in the country, while the people who will get a windfall in these checks, pay nothing.

    Isn't Socialism wonderful?

Funny (no not really) how those that lose the most get the least back.

You do realize that if you are old, ill and have co-morbidities for bunch of things, get the flu and die, it's coded as a flu death?

I've been asking around, see who knows ANYONE who's died of the flu.   We have 40k+ per year, it ought to be someone?

I got one.  My co-worker's father.  Death recorded as Flu.      Strange really.  He had late stage 4 pancreatic cancer, copd and dementia.   Coded as Flu.

So I looked into it a bit more and epidemiologists have been complaining about this FOR YEARS.   It exaggerates the number of flu deaths by a HUGE margin.

Here's just one article.  You can read about it until the cows come home.  Annual deaths directly attributable to Flu are generally under 1000.  Most deaths are opportunistic pneumonias, that can be triggered by any number of co-morbidities including CHF, hypertension and more.  If they test positive for flu?  Flu death.

You mean like the guy that died from corona,  because he had 2 heart attacks while being treated?

Or the 85 yo with emphasyma .  Yep another corona death.

I've been looking online, unsuccessfully, for clarification on this.  So as of today 3/25/20 I can transfer a rifle to my brother face to face in NJ correct?  We just need 2 copies of the SP634.

thanks for the info in advance

There is an exemption that excludes members of an immediate family.  So you should be good to go if your brother has a FPID.

You can use relatives as references.  There is no reason they would call your employer unless you list them as a reference.

They actually call "to verify employment".  At least last time I got permits while employed.  Which makes absolutely no sense since unemployed people / Self employed still get permits.

Last company had a dedicated line for employment verification,  all it would say is yes/no that you worked there,  no further information.  So it couldn't be used to harass you.

    Hello everyone,

I figure most of us are “window shopping” between meetings, calls, dealing with kids or just to keep sane so I thought this might be a fun place to tell/show us what you’ve recently purchased.

For me, I’ve taken advantage of end of season winter sales picking up a new ski/snowboard rack for the jeep and jackets.  My best purchase though was this $11 purchase on Sunday.  I had a bunch of points on my Cabelas card and since I’ve stopped using it, I decided to cash them in.   So for $11 bucks including tax and shipping I got this and a couple 10/22 mags.  Open to hearing about any tips or tricks to build it and what Battery to use.

so, what has everyone else purchased to stay sane?

How is that going to keep you sane?  It will just be there taunting you.

  13. I dont know about the 10/22,  but I had a similar issue with my Mk3 and Remingtons.  The feed ramp on the Mk3 is for lack of a better term "sharp".  The bullets were hitting the edge of the feed ramp and shaving small slivers off,  till the point where it just jammed.

When I took the gun apart there was a large amount of lead built up on the feed ramp.  I have not had this issue with any other brand of ammo.  The federal bulk packs (both round nose and HP) have been pretty close to 100% for me.

    Faulty for few reasons.

    1.  Lieing Commie Chinese bastards.  Nobody knows for sure how many died there.  You going to trust them to tell us the truth?

    2. It's just getting started in the US.  I REALLY hope I'm wrong but this is just the start.  I don't think we are near the peak yet.  Again, REALLY hope I'm wrong.

    2.  It's just starting in places like England and Australia.  Aussie isn't as densely populated as England.  I spoke to a co-worker in London today.  He mentioned how the weather was nice and lots of people there were heading to the beaches.  He has asthma and is taking it very seriously.  Sounds like many aren't.

No it started last year.  They just didn't know how to test for it.

See the many posts above about people  that had the symptoms, and thought it was regular old flu and dealt with it.  My friend was one of them in November of last year.

So even if China and the WHO are lying,  there would need to be over 200,000 dead Chinese just to equal a normal flu.

Normal US flu season, 50k dead, china 4x our population = 200k. Let not even mention sanitation, which would drive chinas number up even more.

Using the "sky is falling numbers", there would be ~2 million dead chinese.  I dont think they could cover that up.

So who benefits from this?  Follow the money and you'll know why this is happening

How many deaths per day does NY state get from Flu?

    Need some math, I guess.

    19,000,000 population.   As a percentage of 350,000,000 that's 0.0542857142857143

0.0542857142857143 x 40,000 = 2,171.42  = NY percentage of total flu deaths this year to date.

It is generally assumed to start in October.  Roughly 6 months ago or 180 days.

This means, on average, NY loses 12 people per day to Flu.

In the last day they had 43 deaths to Covid 19.

How many deaths per day does there need to be before you don't consider this the flu?  Just curious.

It's still not a big number yet and no, I'm not panicking.  It will be a really big number if the field hospitals and service ships fill up and overwhelm the system.  That's when the real death rate will hit.   Hopefully they've got enough beds in route.

Hopefulyl the Hydrochloroqine + Zpack knocks this down, then it all ends up as nothing.

The entire worlds death due to this approx equal 1/6 the flu deaths in  the US.   The number of cases in the world is ~1/100 of the flu cases in the US.  But somehow the death count due to Corona in the US will somehow grow to 5x the worlds number?  Extremely unlikely

This crap did not start a week ago.  It started last year.  But no one was testing for it.

The problem is the rate of infection is growing exponentially, mostly because of testing but also because it is showing how much spread of this there has been.  20,000 today is 40,000 in a few days, and 150,000 in weeks.   No, it doesn't scale to infinity but two Flu season at the same time is the problem.  Also, Flu generally doesn't use intubation/respirators and the serious cases(~5%) of this do.

I disagree.  The rate of DETECTION is growing exponentially not the rate of infection.  Test 5 people 1 turns up with it.  Test 5000000, 1000000 turn up with it.  The rate hasn't changed at all.  Now anyone with the sniffles goes and gets tested.  (See drive thru running out of test kits in 3 hours)

And still is no where near seasonal flu in cases, and fatalities.

    https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/preliminary-in-season-estimates.htm

38-54 MILLION cases in US,  23-59 THOUSAND deaths.

Oh and these numbers are from only the last 6 months.

    The sky is not falling.

I had the "Flu" over Christmas this year. I wonder if I had it?

A friend wound up in the hospital in november for "flu like" symptoms.  Tested for flu, nope.  He did not need any breathing help.  He wound up being dehydrated which caused his BP to drop making him dizzy.  That was why he went in.  Said it took him 2-3 weeks to shake it.
