Interest in a reloading class/workshop?
crazyboy replied to Maksim's topic in Ammunition & Reloading
May be interested. -
Yea I definitely don't want to skimp out on boots. Once your feet are cold or wet your hunt is over. I have a pair of Rocky's and a pay of Muck boots that are used just for hunting. Both are nice.

What else is on your nightstand?

No one else keeps a fleshlight handy? -
Where are you located? If in need I can recommend a butcher. Anyway, you just fill out you tag and attach it to the deer when you locate it, if its a doe just push the needle from your license holder through her ear, if its a buck do it through the gap in the bones on the lower rear leg. Load it up and check it ASAP, if its too late and the check stations are closed you have to call the division and then check it the next morning. At check in take you filled out tag and they will take that and record the info about zones and stuff where it was taken, and then they will give you a permanent metal tag which has to stay attached to the deer. Don't get yourself too concerned though, it looks like the checks are going to be via computer come 2012.

Passed my hunter's education class! (Shotgun/Rifle)

All the sporting goods stores sell bow string wax. It's less than ten bucks, looks kind of like a large chapstick and will last you a long time. -
Passed my hunter's education class! (Shotgun/Rifle)
crazyboy replied to DevsAdvocate's topic in Hunting, Fishing & More
Keeps the bowstrings in good condition and protects them. Kind of like cleaning a gun. -
You need to complete the hunter education course. Which is comprised of general questions and then questions for each discipline you're going for. (ie bow, shotgun, muzzle loader) You do your studying prior to the field day on your own time using either the state provided materials, or an interactive web based course that charges a minute fee (I recommend it). You then schedule a field day through the DFW website, where you take the written test, and shoot. You're being tested for safe handling not accuracy, with the exception of bow. So it is vital you practice afterwards so you can produce a clean kill. All of the information about getting the hunters ed complete can be found here http://www.nj.gov/dep/fgw/hunted.htm After you finish that it should clear up a few of your questions. Then be prepared to pony up some cash for licenses and permits

Passed my hunter's education class! (Shotgun/Rifle)
crazyboy replied to DevsAdvocate's topic in Hunting, Fishing & More
Not to shabby. I would definitely get some practice on a 3d deer target, as that's what you'll be shooting at during the test. It is a little more difficult, plus you learn the vitals and shot placement all at the same time. I would try to hone my skills in at 20 yards personally. Don't forget to check that your tips are tight and keep your strings waxed. -
Kind of eery watching from in the car, knowing whats going to happen.

Android App for NJ Hunting Seasons and Limits
crazyboy replied to crazyboy's topic in Hunting, Fishing & More
Thanks for the kudos everyone. I looked into it and it appears you have to pay a decent fee in order to verify an app so that it can be installed on a device. So, it will not be happening, sorry. -
Hey guys, I put together this app really quick for my own use and figured I would share it with you. It is not fancy, but it works. It has small game, deer, waterfowl, and youth days. It will list the season dates and the daily bag limits for each species. I cannot guarantee the accuracy of the info, but I did take it from the digest. You are suggested to double check with the digest to be sure to be compliant with the law. If there is anything you think would be worth adding, or you find any errors please let me know. Thanks. I'm actually trying Audiogalaxy now. There's just something I like about it being on the phone. It's fast, safe, etc.

Music, etc.

Recommend a Great Folding Knife
crazyboy replied to emptyshell's topic in Knives, Blades & Other Edged Instruments
Gerber ParaFrame. It's inexpensive, has a partially serrated blade, and keeps a sharp edge. -
The iphone doesn't have any expandable memory, which is a downfall in my book.
-
It's next on the purchase list actually. If I toss a sweatshirt on it doesn't print terrible though.

Don't mind my gut.
